Polygamy

In Reply to: About polygamist compound - the polygamy doesn't - bother me-forced marriages do (sm)

The whole concept of polygamy bothers me.  It has a trickle-down effect on everyone involved.  The children of these polygamist are victims. It is not natural to have siblings with 10-12 other mothers and 1 father, much less to all live in the same house. It's sick...

Polygamy, et. al.
First off, polygamy is against the law in the U.S. It would be fine with me if they totally shut down these polygamy compounds. I agree with Children's Services rounding up all 416 children. Some of them, their parents are not even at the Texas compound. The children originally under 5 I believe were "selected" from Utah/Arizona and sent to Texas. It's also not just the young teen girls being forced to marry much older men, a lot of the boys are sent away not to have any contact with their family so these so these men can "spiritually marry" underage teenagers. It is nothing but child abuse all the way around for these kids. Hopefully, Texas will retains custody of all of the children.
sounds like polygamy
I would not let my daughter marry this man. I would do some sort of intervention with more than one family member. She deserves better.
I love it. Don't agree with polygamy, but still
xx
About polygamist compound - the polygamy doesn't
I couldn't care less if consenting adults choose to live in polygamous marriages. I see these mothers in the interviews crying for their children....if it was just that they are polygamists, I would really feel sorry for them. But the issue for me is that they are sending their teenage daughters off ot marry these older men - with the first issue being that they are teenagers and the second issue being that it is not even their choice.  Personally I would never want to be in a polygamist situation, but if adults choose that, I don't care...as long as they don't all get insured and bring up my rates!! lol...but I don't think all polygamist groups marry off their teenagers like that either...and that is my problem with it.  What do you all think?  Do you care if people live polygamist lives?
polygamy doesn't bother me but the compound does
I understand that people of like minds may want to live in a close community, but when it becomes isolative I think it's dangerous. I don't have a problem with free choice. Of course the under age marriages are deplorable. I feel sorry for the women being separated from their children and even more so for the children being taken away from their parents into a different world.

The women on Larry King bothered me though, they all talked in a very monotone way, they looked gaunt, kind of robotic. Maybe it's the immediate situation they are facing and being on TV. I guess I would have liked to see a bit of anger there, some emotion, too submissive, probably the way they are with their husbands. You get the feeling they are pretty bottled up.
