go to Wednesday's practice day if you can
I went to a tourny in Atlanta and aside from the Saturday and Sunday play, my favorite was Wednesday when they got to practice.

By Saturday I figured out that instead of following one set of players from hole to hole, it was better to pick a hole I liked and sat there all day. That way, I got to see every player. I think it was the 16th hole, almost 400 yards, big dog leg to the right, so I sat in the crook where I could see the tee and the first strokes landed the balls right in front of me. I wasn't that far from the restrooms and a snack shop, either :)

Lots of fun. Hope you enjoy yourself! I hope to be a volunteer at a tourney next year just to be closer to the activities and personalities.
Wednesday works

Hi trose,

Wednesday will work...ya get the info from the beginning of the week and what their plans for the wknd are.

A relatively new tradition.....On Wednesdays, my mother (who is 70 years young) and my sister J (46) and her daughter Pricia - short for princess Patricia (3) all have a sit down dinner at J's house....sometimes real fancy or sometimes just Sabrett hot dogs with all the trimmings....and tea parties.....1004 miles away from where I am.

I remember the teen years with the boys....art shows and portfolios, the football, track and baseball practices and games, them trying to get dressed in the back seat of the car while trying to shove something down their throats and the part time jobs....I kinda miss it.

Cat

I have already seen for Wednesday night
and I will not go into who hung on and so but sorta shocking on this end. I think it is a little different this year than last or maybe I have just forgotten how they started picking the top 12. Next Tuesday another group comes in and then from there another 12 picked, I guess. Can go into discussion tomorrow when all have hopefully watched.
Wednesday, May 30 for Miami-Florida

Please watch Oprah on Wednesday

She is doing a show about divorce and how it affects children.  I think she'll have experts/psychologists on to talk about ways of explaining divorce to children to make it as least traumatic as possible.  Oprah always seems to get the best experts on her show, and usually they have written books that you could read too.  I think how you talk to your kids about the divorce has a huge impact, and some parents get so wrapped up in their own pain that they fail to really help the kids with their heartbreak, so I think it's great you are thinking about your son first thing.  So many times the kids think it is their fault for some reason.

My personal opinion is that sometimes it is better to get divorced if you are miserable, because just as we want our kids to be happy, they want us to be happy too.  But, I think you have to try with everything you have inside of you first to make the marriage work, so then you can leave knowing you did everything you could to try to save the relationship (unless it is abusive in any way).  I would highly recommend watching Oprah on Wednesday though.  It looks like it's going to be a very moving, informative hour.

The cat happened Monday. Toilet trauma was Wednesday.
I think I'm fine...just accident prone this week.
The sad thing is she didn't have to give them up until noon on Wednesday....
and she gave them to him today...unless she is checking into rehab again you would think she would want to spend as much time with them as possible...
Just got this at the library for our kids: Wacky Wednesday! Remember that book? haha nm

Thank God for daughters
My daughter came home and started going through scripture. This is what she came up with. It made me even sadder thinking about what a loss it is to lose a child.

Our dearest friends, "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you." -1 James 5:7 We are truly sorry for the world's loss and your pain. We're here for you.

me: Appreciate the input to all who posted. I knew she'd do it for me, but wasn't sure if she'd be here in time.

This is so sad....
I have three daughters (sm)
My oldest daughter has a different father than my youngest two. This situation had nothing with a breach of faithfulness to my ex-husband or current husband. I've been entirely faithful in my marriages. My current husband raises her as his own and has since before she was 2. We have as close to a nuclear family as can be expected in this situation.

We cannot assume that because children have different biological fathers (or mothers) in one family that there was some wrongdoing. :)
Two daughters 14 and 4
1. What ages are your kids?

14 and 4

2. Do they have their own cell phone? No,we were planning on getting my daughter a prepaid cell phone for Christmas until we realized all she wanted it for was to text and talk to her friends even though we had told her it was just for emergencies. She uses her father's cell phone if she needs to be away from home where I don't have an exact time to pick her up and has to call for a ride. Too many of her friends have cell phones and run up $500 bills and their parents think nothing of it (that's why we were leaning towards a prepay) or have the most expensive cell phones on the market. We also thought that she'd use up in her minutes in weeks instead of months.

3. Do they have their own TV and or computer in their room? If so, are there set hours they're allowed to use these: My four year doesn't have a TV yet, but my oldest does. She has her own laptop computer courtesy of her cousin, but it's right next to mine and she only can be on it for an hour a day. She's been grounded from it so many times for going over the hour, but she knows there are consequences for not following the rules.

4. Do they receive an allowance? If so, are they required to do chores to receive this?

The four year old doesn't yet, although she helps me more than the 14 year old without asking. LOL. The 14 year old just gets $5 a week for doing her chores, more when I'm really busy and I need her to watch her younger sister.

my daughters are 5, 2, and 1 so they don't say anything
sometimes the 5 year old will aske me why I don't like granny or why granny doesn't talk to me.

To answere your question, no, not really.

Long story short, brother in law was in jail and wanted pics of our kids. we said no and told her not to send either. she sent them anyway and when my husband called to say something to her about it, he talked to his dad and he got all mad about us not wanting pics of our kids in jail. they did not call us, talk to us, see our kids for 6 months. Then want to pretend like nothing ever happened (with my husband) when they came for a b-day party in Nov. This was the first time we saw them and she gave me a complete attitude, did not speak to me, turned her back to me everytime I said anything.
anyone have cheerleader daughters? sm
my 15yo is trying out next week.  she was cheerleader on little league squads, but hasn't been in jr. high and now trying out for varsity.  they have to make up their own cheer.  any ideas?  i've been searching the net just for some ideas and everything is just the same ole, same ole.  FYI, not trying to copy but just get some ideas to make the brain flow for me/her to try to put somethign together.  she needs something different and unique to make her stand out since she is up against lots of cheerleaders that have been on the squad for years. something short, with a jump or two in it.  HELP please!!!
my 19 and 21 year old daughters sm
wore a size 4 shoe since they were 12.  It is hard for them to get grown up looking shoes. They are about 5 feet.  They would love to have bigger feet.  They take after my mother in law who was a size 4 her whole life.
puberty/daughters
There are many variations of menarche and the menstrual cycle that are considered "normal" from one female to another. For instance, my daughter, who is now 15, had her menarche at age 10; however, it was very light, brief, and definitely not from month-to-month. She developed early, is very tall (5ཆ"), and is of medium-to-slender build. She now has regular cycles, albeit on the "long" side, of approximately 36-40 days. She has played soccer and basketball.

They say that sometimes the daughter's OB/GYN history will follow that of the mother - but not always. I was on the track team in high school, was always very active with school, chorus, and band, but my body type was very thin and tiny. I weighed less than 95 pounds in my senior year. I am currently in my early 40s and weigh about 112 pounds (two pregnancies, with nine and ten-pound babies - no gestational diabetes) and am 5ƈ". I did not reach menarche until about the age of 15, but my cycles are short, about 26 days.

Just as with babies and potty training, for example, as long as there is no pain, sharp or otherwise, no passing large clots, fever, etc., I'm sure all will be well. It (puberty with fruition of regular menses) is "gearing up" in a sense. In fact, before my daughter's very first period, red blood cells were detected on a routine urine culture. The pediatrician knew right away that menarche was pending; sure enough, it happened within a couple of weeks.
btw, with your attitude, if you have daughters
I'd be willing to bet they would have an abortion behind your back rather than suffer your judgment by having a baby at a young age or out of wedlock.  Would that feel good on your conscience?  You could be missing out on the joy of grandbabies!
Thanks for this info. My 2 daughters and
I just bought a batch of 6 each. Thanks again.
but that is not you daughters fault sm
that you had such a horrible life. I feel for you. I too had a pretty rough childhood but no way would I even think to make one of my kids pay for that. Sounds like you need some serious counseling or you are going to be one miserable lonely old lady.
As the mother of two young daughters
one who got pregnant with her loser boyfriend at 20 - I can only send hugs and more hugs.  No amount of talking did any good - she knew better and was making some kind of statement to us and she got pregnant still thought she was a smarty pants - they then split up, she met someone else, immedately became engaged, planned a wedding and got PG again before wedding.  It has only been 18 months since the wedding but she knows she rushed through everything, has regrets but has learned lessons.  I would just push contraception, I would let her know how disappointed you are - you have a right to your feelings - support her in other ways if you can and try not to let it ruin your relationship.  She is due for a huge fall but they somehow need to experience this.  I am so sorry!!
Amen! My daughters and I do laugh
about this now. I went through this twice. The first daughter was not as bad as the second daughter. They were six years apart so I did get kind of a break. Believe, me this phase does pass.
Our two daughters "came out" a year or so ago...
and it wasn't really a shock. I had already suspected it when they were wearing rainbow stuff, even had a rainbow dental retainer, but my husband just didn't want to believe and stated that everyone likes rainbows and that didn't mean anything LOL.  Our children were afraid of our reaction so that is why they delayed telling us. I wish they would have realized a long time ago that if they were purple, polka-dot or whatever they chose to be, we love them the same.  One of them is still unsure of her sexuality so we just stay supportive while she finds her own identity etc.  My husband's daughter who came out was afraid to tell her maternal grandparents, and when she did, she got the reaction she expected, total abandonment and was told to never discuss her life with them at all. That is very sad to me.  We continue to support and love them and keep an open mind when we have met their "partners." I will admit at first I was sad because at some point you realize all the dreams you have for your child are gone as in getting married, having children etc.. but I soon realized that this can still happen, just not in the tradition way.  Love is unconditional. That's my thought.
Good advice for your daughters.

Hi XXX:  Read all your posts with Mom with girls.  Basically I agree with most everything you say.  I too took my daughter to Family Planning Clinic, where she was given BC pills.  I told her the facts of life and warned her about consequences of getting pregnant or some diseases too.  I left the decision up to her and the responsibility of taking the pills.  She was 18 at that time and already graduated from high school, so legally an adult.  She did become pregnant at 18 and went through pregnancy and gave birth, but not married.  The father came along and helped with money to raise his child.  They did have a stormy time of it, but now they are 31 and 30 with 3 more children.  She was lucky because her husband is very responsible now, building contractor and very good father.  he absolutely loves his children, so my daughter was very lucky.  Of course we know that not all girls have a happy ending to their story.

All you can do as a mother is to support your children, give them guidance and proper moral standards that hopefully they will live by.  I have really tried very hard to not be judgmental or to criticize when the problems came.  I think that is probably the worse thing to do to your kids.  After all we all make mistakes.  Of course it is easier to give advice than the actual practicing of this advice.  Whatever happens to your kids, try to stand by them and love them.

How will our daughters learn to stand up for themselves if we do not lead by example
I have always stood up for my daughter and have tried to teach her the same and now that she is getting older I can see that it is paying off. You go girl!!!!!
Questions for moms with daughters in puberty.. sm
My daughter will be 13 in December. Back in early August she had what I thought was the starting of her menses. She had some blood for about one week and then done. She has not had anything for the month of September. Is this normal? When I started I never remember stopping after the first one. She does play a lot of soccer and takes dance, so that might be part of it to. Any other mom's experiencing this?? She knows all about sex and pregnancy, so I know that is not an issue, especially since she goes nowhere without me or her dad.  Thanks for any input.
Two of my daughters have them on their lists. Found them at K-Mart for 29.99 nm

I named my daughters Katie Ann and Kelsey Nicole. sm
Our son is Kyle. I also like the name Kellen for a boy or a girl. Good luck!
Thank you! From a Mom who had 2 daughters, serving 3 separate tours in Iraq - twice over Christmas.

Then they can get right back on their tires and rafts and float on back to Cuba! nm

Back-to-back black swans that look like (sm)
a giant moustache. My MIL painted it for us and put our last name on it and my DH nailed it to an outside storage room door. It looks ridiculous, and when the kids have other kids over they always ask why we have a giant moustache on our door!
Hayseed was back a few weeks back
But we haven't heard from her since. I miss her too. I hope she's doing okay.
My MIL named her twin daughters Mary and Mary.
No lie. And now you have a pretty good picture of the kind of mother-in-law stories I can tell. And I do have MIL stories!

Well, I'm going to at least try to take it back...

...and if they don't believe me, I can't really blame them.  Several years ago, they had someone return a computer and get another one, and when they opened the boxes later, they were filled with wood and rocks, etc.   I'm still looking for my receipt, but not holding my breath.

My dad used to work at Lowes and he said they kept finding empty nail boxes behind the full boxes. Turns out, people were combining two boxes of nails and only paying for one.  I didn't realize nails were that expensive.  Who knew?

thank you so much for having my back.
for a little bit was beginning to think i was crazy/

i havent said anything to her yet, but i have to many parents and one of them spoke to teh principal who laghed it off. teh teacher, when that parent talked to her about it, said that seh goes thru this every year with parents and that teh children wanted to talk about it. i told my mom adn let me tell you, she is PO'd to say the least. tonight is our christmas program, my mom said she was going to talk to her, i think i'll be standing right next to her. i cant wait. i wish i was more vocal, adn wasnt so scared that if i did make a fuss she would treat my daughter differently. just dont know what to do here, i feel like screaming, but am too scared...isnt that silly.
MTT, you just took me back to...
that baby sweet smell of Dreft that I used when my kids were little!
Back at ya!
Sorry took so long!  Chickens rock!
Could it be your back...sm
Causing the pain in your foot? Up until just recently, I had that electric-shock feeling in my foot when I would turn it a certain way. It was excruciating! But it would only happen if I turned my foot at a certain, odd angle, like when I was stretching, so I just tried not to move it that way. It lasted for a good 2 months, then finally went away on its own.

I'm certain this was caused by whatever is going on in my back, though. In the last few years, I've started to have a lot of problems with my back. My doctor thinks it's because I have scoliosis, the degree of which is considered mild, but they're finding out now that even mild curves can cause severe pain.

Mostly my pain is from muscle spasms, but there is also definitely some "pinched nerve" type stuff going on at times. Lately I've been feeling an odd sensation almost like something is encircling my big toe on that same foot that had the shock-like pain, but it's very mild.

Anyway... maybe you could see a chiropractor? I went to one in the past, and I could really tell a difference. If I missed an appointment, I'd start to feel that sciatica-type pain down one leg. Also, a physical therapist might be able to help with exercises and tips. Insurance will usually cover that, but they don't always cover chiropractic care.

I got a TENS unit through my PCP and that helps relieve the pain, and I do stretching and strengthening exercises (I even have a DVD for yoga exercises specifically for the back and scoliosis that I *really* need to start doing.)

Anyway, just throwing out some ideas for you. I hope you can find a solution. I know that "shock" pain is horrible!

thanks - got it back

No. I don't think they are trying to win back--sm
their customers. This particular company has had negative reports about their products for years. Personally, I would never give this pet food to any of my pets even prior to the tainted pet food scandal just because of the negative reports about their food. They are going to be faced with a number of law suits anyway, in regard to the tainted pet products, as are probably some others. I don't think their giving away free pet food is going to win back anyone, who has a lick of sense in their head and true concern for their pets. Actually, being a pet owner, I think I would stay away from any and all of the pet food manufacturers involved in this tainted pet food business. I would no longer trust their products to be safe, no matter what the conditions after the fact. The *quality* pet food manufacturers are not on the recall list, so I would stick with them, for now. but then again, this is just my opinion.
I just got back from looking.

It was awful.  As far as the chickens and the sheep, that really did not bother me at all.  I grew up on a farm. They had had a party a few months ago and never cleaned up.  It smelled of urine.  I still have that awful smell with me.  GAG.  The place looked trashed. There were holes in the walls.  I know you are supposed to look beyond that and I tried and tried.  The fact that they knew since Monday that we were coming to look, I think they should have made an effort to make it look presentable.   Even the realtor agreed with me on that.   I don't feel they took us seriously. The realtor said they already came down from 130k to 125k so the potential buyer could put in new carpet or steam clean it.  I tried not to make a face but Dh said I had rolled my eyes.  My cousin, who knows the owner, said these people do this for a living.  They buy houses, live in them for a little while then sale them for profit.  I don't think they have a clue about their business.  IMO.

DH looked into the attic.  He said he could move the beams with his hand.  He did put his face on the wall in the living room, he said it was crooked.  DH said that our house is better built.  I noticed cracks between the ceiling and the baseboard in the loving room but I thought maybe just the baseboard needed to be renailed.  DH thinks that is an indication the house is sinking.

The only thing we liked was the living room, sun room and that shop outside.  I liked the backyard but the master bedroom was too small.  The one I have now is small but it is bigger than that.  I want bigger, I don't want to downsize.  The other two bedrooms I thought were too small as well but we could live with those if we had to.

I guess the reason they did not take us seriously and did not put out an effort was because I had already told them that 125k was too high for that neighborhood.  THe realtor lady said that they had come off but evidently that 125k was their comming off price.  I don't think I would want to pay 70k now, not even 50k.

Just getting back to you but the dog
had foot surgery- I saw it prior and had like a lipoma removed from its foot (have seen it since also). Apparently the dog has problems with being mobile as older dog, heavy dog (the guy fed it scraps from the table)and thus the reason for the mother giving it drugs for pain, sorta like I take ibuprofen daily because of fibro. Anyway, I appreciate the post- got email from her again this morning, about nothing really, but once I answer know it will get back to the doggie issue. Several people associated with her have sent her books, items, etc. about her enabling, so she tells me, but she will continue. I have a now deceased husband who did exactly the same- you would never have made him understand it does not help. He told me he would go to his grave and not do any differently and he did. I am not sorry for paying for the surgery but now have decided no more doggie medicine money. Thanks again!
Hey, I just got back from there
and was at the Belliago and I sure did not have freebies. Don’t you have to be one of the big rollers (or they think you are going to spend a lot at the tables) to get deals like you are talking about? Regardless of what places give away free, too spoiled to stay anywhere else now since my stays there.
I back you in everything you have said
and people who think you can ask nicely are probably the ones who have the problem children. Some kids just do not like anyone older saying jack to them. Sorry some people want to hide their heads in the sand. Their children probably don’t know how to behave either so they think youre asking/telling the kids to go was wrong. The kids would have responded the same way to either asking or telling. Poor upbringing.
No, not at all. I'm 37 and am going back SM

to school to be an ultrasound technologist.  I started this path back in 1993--graduated from rad tech school in ྛ.  Then I had kids and never worked in the field.  Went back to school in 2000 to become a medical Transcriptionist and have been working as an MT ever since.

Now, I'm finally working toward finishing my ultrasound degree.  I'm really excited about it.  I sometimes worry that I'm too old, but I'm not going to let that stop me.

You can do it!

I think I would think back to before it went bad (sm)
The last time you knew he was happy, and find somewhere you can spread them. A place you know he enjoyed or something like that. Before things went downhill.
Just came back and saw something
it was close to where Depends are kept, urinary incontinence supplies- for people who may can not wash their hair and it is a dry substance you put on and comb out, I believe. I have seen other things like this before also.
He should have to pay it back somehow, but (sm)
I know that doesn't help you when you have to fork over $100.  Hope it all works out for you, and that he never does it again.
Oh, please, go back to bed or something (sm)
Have you ever been to NYC?  I used to live about 30 minutes from there, and spent a lot of time on subways on my way to Columbia Presbyterian where DD had appts.  Believe you me, it can be very confusing until you get the "lay of the land" and she sounds like she is trying to help.
No - if it comes back to your son
he may hesitate to confide in you again.
It all comes back to you
Congratulations!! and yes it does all come back to you .....I am a mother of 3 with 6 years in between each (I think I kept forgetting how it happened!) Mine are 18, 11, and 5 and each time I felt like I was going through all the nervousness for the first time!
