6.5 - 8 CPL--serious?

OK, I'll probably get tarred and feathered for this but....after reading various MT boards now for a couple of years, I can't help but wonder if there are company "ringers" on here deliberately making MT work sound bad and destroying morale and self confidence.
The reason I say this is because I haven't been an MT for even one full year yet and I already make 11.5 cpl as an IC. Yes, I have many, many years of experience in general and legal transcription. I also worked for quite some time as an editor, and I have two bachelor's degrees. Also, I am not a young, inexperienced woman. However, as I said, I haven't been an MT for even one year yet (the beginning of next month marks one year).
I'm not saying all of this because I want to brag or be arrogant. What I am saying is I think we ALL are worth a lot more than 6.5 - 8 CPL! When I read of people with 15-20 years of experience as an MT making 8 CPL, I can't believe my eyes! Is it true, or are industry plants here deliberately saying it is true to keep MTs down and enslaved?
I'm sure there ARE some people with 15-20 years of MT experience (not just industry plants) who are making a small amount, but I have to ask myself if it's because they don't know what they're worth. Is it because they have no self-confidence? Is it because they don't know how valuable their knowledge and contribution is? Is it because they've been beaten down for years by an industry that does so on purpose just to create these desperate (and yet talented) MTs?
Yes, I know that the industry has changed a lot and continues to change on a daily basis. I know it's a dog-eat-dog world out there. I know about off-shoring, EMRs, and VR software. Yet I also know that good MTs are very much needed, and the industry will need them for quite some time to come.
The purpose of my post? Just to let those who are making a ridiculous amount know that they are worth more--a lot more--that they can get more, that good jobs ARE out there, and that there are a number of naysayers here (and on other boards) who DELIBERATELY keep morale and confidence down.
I know it's all easier said than done. I also know what it's like to need money NOW--I started out at 6.5 CPL myself! However, I also know that if you demand more, you will get more. Stick together MTs, and don't let anyone put you down or tell you what the "going rate" is--unless that "going rate" happens to be excellent! You are ALL worth it!
