Does Anyone Know of A Good Medical Spell Checker For Office 2007?
Hello all! I am new to these boards :) . My husband bought me a new computer with office 2007 installed on it for Christmas :). I was curious if anyone knew of a good medical spell check for Office 2007. Thanks In Advance!!!
Medical spell checker
What is the best spell medical spell checker to buy?  I'm new to this.  Thanks.
MEDICAL WORD SPELL CHECKER

I want to update my 2000 Stedmans Spellchecker.  Is there a newer version and what would be the best one to get.

Your Favorite Medical Spell-Checker?
Does anybody have any suggestions for which medical spell-checker to buy for a Word-based platform? Any suggestions on where to find one cheap that is still thorough? Thanks!
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced medical spell checker?
I've seen some advertised and the prices vary, and I'm wondering which ones are good. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!
I use Sylvan software's medical spell checker and ...am
also their Shortcut word expander. I love both of them. Unfortunately, the spellchecker does not work in DocQscribe, which I work in now. I wish I could get it to because I hate the DocQScribe spellchecker.
Definitely need a spell checker. I use Spellex, very good. (nm)

Spellex has a Medical/Pharmaceutical Spell Checker called Spellex-Anywhere
Spellex has a Medical/Pharmaceutical Spell Checker. The program is called Spellex-Anywhere they have a free trial on there website so you can try if before you buy. I hope this helps :).

DQS spell checker
When you type "whre" instead of "where" when you spell check it the first word that comes up for a correction option is "whore."  Wonder how many reports typed by some of our wonderfully accurate Medquist MT's made it through with the word whore in the report?
spell checker I use
I have used steadmans spell checker for word in the past but the company I work for uses Spellex. I cant really tell a difference between the two but I do know Spellex has a free trial on there site so you can try it before you buy.
Spell checker
I have used Stedman's spell checker on two different jobs and love it, but not the price, especially since it is just for one user.  Can I really only put it on one computer?  I am an IC and have two computers, and now need to buy a medical spell checker.  What do all of you guys recommend?  I like the fact that the spell checker automatically corrects a lot of the words, and does not simply flag them.  I also do not want to go through a manual spell check after I finish a document.  Is there another spell checker out there that works as well for less money?
spell checker
If you are working off a template or sample that has been spell checked previously you have to reset your document in - tools, options, spell check - check document - so that it will re-look at everything. I do this with every document just to be sure.
Spell checker
I recommend Stedman's Plus Spell Check software through their website. mnm
spell checker
I highly recommend Dorland's spell checker CD that comes with their illustrated dictionary (I paid about $55.00 two years ago). It has all of the words the dictionary has but the beauty of it is you install it directly into your word processing program.  You have to change your dictionary from default to "medical".  It then works like any other spell checker, except it is all medical.  It saves a tone of time and is great for accuracy.
I use Spellex Spell Checker
I have Vista and Office 2007 . I use Spellex Spell Check for Office 2007 and LOVE IT! :). You can go to there website and download a trial. I hope this helps! :)
Stedman's Plus Spell Checker
I purchased a new computer that has Word 2007.  The Stedman's Spell Checker that I have is the 2005 version.  Does anyone know if it will work with Word 2007 or do I just need to purchase a new medical spell checker?
My Stedman's spell checker
If I do not capitalize a non generic drug, my Stedman's capitalizes it, however it will not lower case the generics if I accidentally type it with a capital.  However I am luck, my docs don't care and if I accidently capitalize a generic, no biggy or if I do not capitalize it, no biggy as long as the spelling is correct.  I do try and be accurate but sometimes I am not. But I have noticed that my Stedman's will capitalize if it should be and I wish it would work the other way also.  .
I type into EMR with no spell checker
KInd of like balancijng your checkbook without a calculator but it can be done.  I keep the internet running in the background and at first did a lot of Google search as I did not trust myself especially with meds.  But now I do.  Are you typing in a word program or EMR's as if the EMR's are word based you can load on your Stedman's -- I was doing another type of EMR and could do that.  Otherwise, you can copy and paste onto a laptop that you bring in with the spell check and do it that way.  But again, I started out with a Dictaphone belts, Royal typewrite, then a selectric without correction and then correction capability.  So it can be done, it really makes you think but now when I do my other, I don't have as many mistakes.  Also don't be surprised if there are no expanders.   Good luck.
Stedman's Spell Checker works for me. nm

Word 2007 Spell Checker

Is anyone having a problem with Word 2007 spell checker?  Somtimes it underlines a misspelled word and sometimes it doesn't.  I sent some notes in with quite of few misspelled words.  It is so aggravating.  I have checked all my settings, and it is set up to show misspelled words and grammar mistakes.  I just don't understand why it works one minute but then doesn't work the next.

Best Spell Checker compatible with Vista?
I just bought a new Sony Vaio and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a spell checker that was compatible with Vista for Word 2007.  Are there any out there that are good?
No, Stedman's spell checker does not work with

Meditech.  Meditech has its own spell checker, and believe me, you want to stay away from it because it has been added to by transcriptionists at each site who DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL!

Meditech is the worst platform of any around bar none.  It is not geared to transcription.  It is only a data base system. The hospitals that use it are too cheap to do anything to upgrade to a Windows based transcription system.  They will offshore before they will do that.  Bottom line, you know.    MEDITECH IS A PRODUCTION KILLER.

what kind of electronic spell checker to you use? sm

i'm thinking of getting an electronic spell checker, where it will automatically correct your words as you type.  is there such a program?

thanks

Can anyone recommend Spell Checker for Word 2003?

Stedman's Med Dictionary and Stedman's Med Spell checker are two different programs. Which on

do you have?  If it is the medical dictionary, as far as I know it is only a reference software and can't be used as a spell checker.

If you have the spell checker, go into Word.  Click on Tools, Options, and then Spelling & Grammar tab.  Then click on the Custom Dictionaries button about half way down the window.  This will open a new window that lists your available dictionaries and one should be checked.  Mine is checked next CUSTOM.DIC (DEFAULT).  There is an ADD button to the right.  If you click it, you will be able to browse for your custom dictionary.

Hope that helps.

you are exactly right - an MT should spell correctly in everything she writes, medical or not

Are there any free medical spell checkers for Word that can be downloaded?..

Must be a good MT...you can't spell
...LOL
It's a good idea to run a spell check
I would not correct as I went along. I always do a spell check.
Does anyone know of a good, but cheap spell check program? sm
Just did an upgrade to XP and have lost my "free" Spellex that I got with my schooling on my old computer. I have a new job but cant afford to buy the Spellex program yet. Any good ones that do both medical and drug names that is CHEAP? I plan to buy the spellex again when I get a few paychecks, but for now I need something. It is getting really tiring looking up so many drug names!
It's great you've got a good system; I'm happy for you! nm

Your QA needs to get a good medical dictionary. SM
I've been an MT for a long, long time and I have never heard of anything so ridiculous.
need a good online medical dictionary
that I can use without having to download it because I'm not allowed to download anything and I can't intall my stedman's.
What's a good source for very new medical terminology? sm
I'm wanting to avoid paying for a $95 subscription to something like The Latest Word, if possible. Is there a web site that posts new medical drugs and other terms that are so new they haven't hit the books yet?

thanks!
Can anyone tell me of a good medical search engine? nm

Does anyone have a good medical acronym website? tia nm

What are good Medical Transcription Schools?

The response I got when asking about the credibility of MTAtHome.com wasn't very good.  So now I'm wondering, what are some good Medical Transcription schools that you can do online.  I'm looking for an online program.  Can anyone send me in the right direction?  I definately don't want to be jipped by a school that is not credible, which will then affect whether I get employment or not.  Thanks for your responses.

Future of medical coding is good
Medical coding is very lucrative career. Medical coders are not only required in hospitals but also in pharma industry and clinical research. Know more about coding ..

Not-so-good news re: medical coding,
I was watching the news tonight (Sacramento, CA area), and there was a story about a lady who was looking for work.  She had spent $10,000 on a coding/billing education, but can't find work.  Apparently that field is "saturated", as the newscaster said.  (Maybe from lots of MTs trying to get into that?)  Anway, I had sort of been thinking about going to school to learn coding, but now I think I'll pass.
Looking for a good medical spellchecker that doesn't cost as much?

Is everyone just using spellex or stedmans or are there lower cost alternatives?

How did you find them in the first place?  Just curious because I don't want a cheaper product to act cheap also.

Any ideas?

TIA

A good site for searching medical abbreviations.

Check the link below.  A really cool site to search for medical abbreviations.

Doesn't matter 1 iota if it is a medical report. She probably wouldn't know a good MT if 1 bit
the butt - that was my point.
A good website to search for medical terms, equipment, and drugs.
A good site for word help.
Meditech is an operating system and Fusion is voice for a dictation system

I would buy new a Dorland's Medical Dictionary, Stedmans Medical and Surgical Equipment...SM

and Tessier's The Surgical Word Book, 3rd edition.  Books you could buy used I would say would be Stedman's Pathology and Lab Medicine and Cardiology/Pulmonary word book.  These are all the books I use the most during my day.  You could buy other speciality word books as you need them and could probably go used with those.

I wouldn't bother with buying a drug book, new editions come out every year and I just stick to the FDA website and RXList as my drug references.

Also FYI, not a book, but I use my Stedman's Electronic Medical Dictationary a lot.  It's easier to open the program than it is to pick up a huge 30-pound dictionary.

That only tells the grammar checker to flag spaces. Word does not auto space.

Medical Transcription In The Era Of Electronic Medical Records
EMR has revolutionized the healthcare industry in recent times. Many experts felt that EMR & Voice Recognition would totally replace Medical Transcription - however; the industry soon realized that transcription has certain advantages over point & click charting and many physicians preferred to dictate notes rather than document the data at the point of care themselves.
Do not download the Panda titanium software for virus checker and spyware protection. It corrupted
my entire computer, had to have service man fix it to the tune of $150.00.
At ease, soldier! This isn't a medical document. I repeat, this isn't a medical document. nm
