BOS

I've often wondered about the history of the BOS.  Was the author an English teacher or maybe a QA person?

The thing is, I wonder if other parts of the patient's chart are under the scrutiny of the BOS.  For instance, what about nurses' notes?  I used to write them in longhand.  I think I would have totally gone bonkers if I had had my notes evaluated by a QA department.  I mean, I do believe they were okay, but the priority back then was to get the message across; it doesn't seem that this is the priority any longer.   I don't think there was such a thing as QA back then; this was over 20 years ago.  Of course, now, we worry about such things as proper sentence syntax; it probably helps to worry about as many aspects of this job as possible.  After all, we wouldn't want to just have a smooth ride; it would probably be very boring and not enough people would have anything to do.  Besides, AHDI would be robbed of all the revenue generated by the BOS and all the updated editions; that just wouldn't be proper.

Nowadays, I imagine the nurses' notes are typed now?  Since the nurses' notes are part of the patient's record just like any report that we transcribe, are they evaluated for correct grammar and all that?  Just curious.
