Don't know how many kids in your school..sm

Posted By: put cops in public schools.......sm on 2006-10-04
In Reply to: My high school had police there. It started - TM

when my child was in high school there were 3000 kids - 2 security officers and perhaps one cop (big huge city) - NOT ENOUGH TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN.  Guns and knives were waiting with perp kids across the street from the public school buses, near the city buses....lots of knifings.......pulled my kid out and had her finish up elsewhere....where they did care about kids.......

Like I said elsewhere - if they (authorities) don't care about our kids, they don't care about our/their future either.......

I did that with 2 kids with time mgmt and a high school girl who babysat 3 days a week after school

I don't have kids, but my Mom was from the "old school," and still had everyone, kids inclu

call her by her first name.  The little neighbor girl next door from the time she could speak called her Aggie (my mom's first name), and they were great buddies until the day my mom pased away.

I don't think there really is much in a name, but more in the respect you are given and the way you are treated.   Personally, I kind of cringe inside when someone calls me Ms. Anything or God forbid, "maam" (makes me feel like Methuselah!) ... I'm always just plain Merrie.  :-)

But, as someone pointed out, to each his own.  If you want to be addressed a certain way, you have that right, and people should respect that.  I'm glad you corrected the child ... hope it "sticks."

have your kids gone back to school yet? if so, where are you at...
if not, when do they go back and where are you at?  This is strictly out of curiosity, everyone, no ulterior motives here! I'm in GA and mine went back yesterday...think it's WAY too early to go back.  They were only out for nine weeks!
No way would my kids be in regular school
It was bad enough years ago when I was in public school, but nowadays with all the drugs, sex, guns, knives, etc., in school, there is no way any kids of mine would be in a public school. I remember my study hall when the kids were totally out of control and the teacher was afraid of them-- it sure isn't any better now. If I could not afford a private school, you'd better believe they would be home schooled.
Kids schedules outside of school....sm

It's amazing to me how many parents push their kids to the extreme with extracurricular activities.   I saw a cousin this weekend and her 2nd grader is taking 4 dance lessons (4-1/2 hours a week), an acting class (1 hour)  is in some special gifted program that meets 1 hour after school each week and is in the church kid's choir on Wednesdays.   This means this 7-year-old has 7-1/2 hours of extracurricular activities scheduled.

I told her that my 6-year-old chooses 1 activity to participate in outside of church kids choir (meets on Sunday) and that's all she does.

What about your kids if you have them?  If you have your child scheduled in a lot of things aren't you worried that they will burn out?  I've recently read stories that a lot of kids that are overscheduled are getting depressed and I can see why.

As long as you have someone with the kids after school and can
s
I can't wait for school to start either, and I don't even HAVE kids!! nm
xxxx
I don't need to know anything about it. My kids functioned fine in school
and let them have friends of their own choosing rather than manipulate their lives for them.
I do not know about her school but next Tues. when my kids start the first day they get out at 9:50
x
Absolutely would - however, I have to wait until my 2 kids are out of school
and off to college! I always wanted to be a traveling Transcriptionist with K-Force. I have 3 more years to wait and off I will go to a traveling transcription position.

I, however, love change and get bored fairly quickly. So, I would prefer the shorter assignments from place to place - 3 years is too long in one place for me!

Good luck to you!
Private Christian school is where my kids go.

I believe it is next Monday, the 19th, as the kids have off school for it.

POLL - Are you read for your kids to go back to school? (sm)
Yes and no is the answer for me.  I love them home with me (11 and 13), but am ready to have the nice quiet house to myself for work.
Driving my kids to school. Heard it on the radio, Bob and Tom. sm
I never heard them be more serious than that day.  The whole day is still bright in my mind.  I remember everything that happened, where I was and what I did.  I will never forget it.
Our school has good scores but my kids have never been stressed

Probably depends on the teachers and the corporate culture at your school.

2000 lines everyday but one since my kids went back to school.
I can finally get back on a routine and get some work done. Now, if I could just stay off of MTstars! LOL.
No, usually it's just winding up as all the kids bring home crud from school.
The 4th of July is slow.  Christmas is never slow for me.
Veteran's day. Kids are out of school. Many doctor's offices are closed.
dd
The kids' "holiday" programs at school were full of African and
Hanukkah music, but there wasn't an African or Jewish person in the gymnasium. Everything else was nondenominational. What I want to know is why the minorities have the majority vote? Shouldn't there be an equal amount of Christmas music?
Me, too. I told my kids that since they're not in school and I'm working two jobs
just to try to keep the utilities on, they get to do chores. Don't even get me started on holiday stress. My extended family sent me gift cards, so I'm using those to buy for the kids. I even offered to pay them $5 an hour for cleaning so they'd have Christmas money. Instead, what are they doing? Watching TV in their pajamas still. That's OK. I'm about to go unplug all the electronics in the house and give them a big chore list with NO pay.
Well, 1 day back to school for the kids, and now they come hom with a stomach virus! Geez.

How frustrating - 1 day in school and now a "bug".  We had this in our house before the holidays.  Everyone in the family had a turn with it, and now again!  I think antiseptic and antibacterials are needed in these schools.   Can't afford to be down for even 24 hours!

Just needed to vent my frustration here - my poor kiddies!

My sons are born again too and their wives can't leave the house, home school the kids, no tv,
and if my DIL wanted to work, it is out of the question. One of my sons just believes in having babies and having babies. They now have 5. I divorced his dad and apparently his dad taught them this is the American way. I just feel so bad for both my sons' wives. They both are born again and both live their life that way.
Honestly, I send my kids to public school. They've never had a belly ache either.

must you be so full of yourself?

POLL: Home School vs. Charter School vs. Public School vs. Priv ate School...
Pros and cons of each too. I have two little ones that will be starting school soon and I would like opinions on all. Thanks in advance! :)
When the kids started school I wanted a job in my home town. A hospital clerk position (sm)
came open. You started compiling charts, making copies, etc. Then I was promoted after a few months and began learning transcription and did that part of the day. Then a few months later they taught me coding and abstracting and I did that part of the day. It was a great learning experience to learn things from the bottom up. Needless to say, I am an old dog here who has been doing this more than 25 years now.

The cost of running a private school or any school is expensive....
Why do you think public schools are so run down and can't find good teachers?  Because the government and people to not put forth the effort or $$$$ to improve the educational system.
Do little kids like caramel? My big kids won't even eat it! We make the basic Baker's chocolat
s
I never said you shouldn't have kids! Feeling guilty? I asked WHY you had kids.
You clearly stated in your post that you ship the kids off to camp all day, and they're TIRED AT NIGHT!!  You know exactly what you said.  You said it as a PERK - AS IN GREAT! They're gone all day, it wears them out, and so I shovel dinner in their mouths and off to bed!  You can try to paint it any way you want, but YOU SAID IT.  Again, I only hope your kids never hear you speak that way or write that way. Shame on you.  Why have kids at all?  Just another parent who has them, gets rid of them for day AND night, BRAGS ABOUT IT, and then calls ME wicked!  Give me a break!  Camp is fine - its WHAT YOU SAID AND YOU KNOW IT.  Your own words showed your heart. Period.
Kids are demanding and so is MT work. My question is how CAN you do this with kids, rather than how
When you have two young kids, 11 months apart, (like I stated they are now 4 and 5) and have been doing this since they were born with no help from their father and no family around, YES, the kids get neglected. Part time might work but living on one salary, part time, is not an option. How can you possible tell me that anyone with two young kids can stay at home and work a full-time, 8-hour shift, and still give their kids the attention they NEED. I dont care how good you are at multitasking and how great your organizational skills are. It is a very difficult thing to do. And I am offended by your post making it sound as if it is easy to do.

I do agree that it can depend on how well your kids behave and how well they are able to play on their own. But my kids were not able to play well on their own. They needed constant attention.

So please take the time to realize that there are people out there in different situations than your own.

Reading our posts should help you to understand that everyone has a different situation. I believe everyone should have the right to shares their experiences as it might benefit the original poster in her questions and concerns.

I dont think anyone should be bashed for taking the time out to write about their experiences. I dont usually come on here to argue but you really ticked me off with your post. And try reading the post correctly. I said next time around I would have put them in day care. What I DID do with them was set them up to an activity like art or put on a movie for them. Geez.
Stayed "because of the kids?" I say "leave because of the kids"
You're in no position to buy right now. Keep saving, keep paying down your bills, and for heaven's sake get rid of that dead weight of a BF you're living with. You can do better.
So, should I return the $75 (x2 kids) in music cards I got the kids for x-mas...sm
My son has been telling me about free music sites and I was very leary.  How do they skirt the law Radguy?
The School of Hard Knocks is the best MT school

Please do not simply give up, kids or no kids!
Talk with a professional. This can be worked through if he really puts forth the effort and you participate. The right counseling can truly make your marriage even better than it was before, if BOTH parties are willing to be honest. Give it a try. Nothing to lose at this point and everything to gain!
We met in high school. My high school sweetheart
introduced us in a discussion over Ford versus Chevy versus Dodge. I used to race my Dodge Coronet with oldstyle 318 V-8 engine against the guys on the back roads and old highways. High school boyfriend had a Chevy truck. DH had a Ford Fairlane and later an AMC Javelin that just made me swoon. We didn't actually start dating until three years later, and my old high school boyfriend was a bit surprised at that since he introduced us.
I'm old school, but still know its 3/6

never went to MT school!
I have been doing this for 10 years now. I have a great job, great QA reviews and make great money. So what???
ol school
LL Cool J and caramel
been to school should have known, especially since they

basically had the words correct.   They were such common terms I don't know how anyone could have gotten through school and not had them at least 100 times.

Also doing one search on Google with the misspelled words would have probably turned up the answer.

going to school
Don't get discouraged - you will be able to use your MT skills in other areas to help with the cost of schooling. I'll be doing that too even if I have to work at a doctor's office part time as a receptionist! Just knowing I am making my way out of this field is something to aspire to!!!
Went to school and got my CPC

I have a national coding certificate.  I cut back on my MT work and got a job auditing physician records and scoring their documentation, then gave them feedback to maximize their reimbursement for the services they provided.  When I moved to a new area, the field for the type of coding I was doing had less of a demand, so I increased my MT work.  Now that I'm back in my "home town" I need to network and re-enter the field.  The money is just as good, if not better in some cases, with much better benefits, plus it is something you leave at the office at the end of the day.

By the way, I'm also from old school....sm

But I try to keep them all as simple as possible, one office with 2 surgeons has their own letterhead, so no problem there and they want things very simple.  All work for all also, besides getting printed by me, is put on a diskette for them to download on their systems for them to make whatever changes they choose.  All others with no letterhead, I supply all paper for (Xerox) and free delivery and pickup to all.  It is free for them, I pay someone to pickup/deliver.  That's how simple I want it, and I also want to bill out and get paid only once a month.

Everyone seems to like the idea, and it has been working for quite some time (10 years) and my theory is, if it isn't broken, don't fix it.  *LOL*

As for the national, my weekend work, each client has a CP (client profile) and some of the CPs are more difficult than the others and once in a GREAT while, I might forget SOMETHING but then I contact someone beyond who usually fixes whatever I messed up.

I went to school for
two years to earn a certificate in medical transcription (at a junior college) but so far no one has ever asked me if I was certified or if I went to school. I guess they didn't care as long as I could do the work.

I would not recommend if you actually want to get a job!
I am considering RN school...
I am almost 29 and have a daughter and am pregnant with another one. I've been going to school to get my RHIT but am bored with it and may go to RN school instead. I don't know... I feel too old to do it!
You should ask the school what they want.

All I can tell you is that I was thinking of going into nursing a few years ago, and a friend of mine who used to be a nurse discouraged me (strongly). It's not what it used to be - lots of paperwork, paperwork, paperwork, lots of long hours and tough shifts. She got her Master's and is now in nursing administration.
