ExText has it's own expander. It's not a separate purchase. Other expanders work fine with it,

Your Shorthand expanders can become separate glossary. s/m KyITuser

Instant text actually comes loaded with dozens of different glossaries stored into a separate glossary folder.  For instance, to name a few:  Medwords.glo, (glo is a filename for glossary), Legal.glo, ER.glo, GenMed.glo, etc.  I could go on.  After I imported my PRD+ expanders, I created a folder for it and just named it (after my first name), Toni.glo.  So when I pull up IT, I just click on my Toni.glo file and go to work.

Ironically, I'm looking into ShortHand because even though IT has SO, SO many different functions...so many that I will never learn in this lifetime, that in itself is the only con...other than the price $189.00 and no trial period is offered!

Personally, the best advice I can give is to visit the productivity board and browse through it.  Don't get me wrong, IT has to be the most advanced expansion program on the market, but again, being so advanced is it's only pitfall.  If you are like me, an IC paid on production, I just don't have the time to sit around and play with it.  I hope I didn't confuse you even more.  Good luck!

copying or transferring Extext expanders
I'm moving to a different MTSO and would like to copy all (probably 20,000) of the expanders/abbreviations I've created over the years.  Hopefully, I can copy these on to a disk and transfer them to the my new MTSO, which utilizes Bayscribe.  It wouldn't be much fun having to re-create these.  Help, anyone?
Use another expander with Extext

I can use ShortHand or Instant Text with Extext. I do NOT use the ESP expander. Too bulky to use.

Your best best is to try one of the above shortcut programs. Instant Text can import your SmartType file into the program. You may have to do a little editing, but at least all your shortcuts would be there.

I'm not sure if Shorthand can do that but I'm sure it can. I know it imports AutoCorrect and a few others.

Shorthand is far superior to that expander for extext

It is the ESP Expander with Dictaphone ExText--If you can believe it, it won't allow caps if you
Yes, that's right, Dictaphone's Expander that comes with ExtText won't allow anything that you use as an expansion come into the document capitalized.

So, when you type your abbreviation for ANY WORD you have in ESP, it will NEVER be capitalized, unless like in, say, 1925, you type the Shift key with it.

I hate this profession. I hate all these programs. THey NEVER take into account the MT. Cars following voice instructions? No problem. MP3 player that respond to your voice? No problem. Get Word to do simple things that it should do, like cap after periods, God, too much trouble. Let the "little girls," just deal with all the software problems day after day. Dictaphone--what a laugh. I worked on ExtText FIVE YEARS AGO-- ANd it still has the SAME fricking clumbsy program? Also, you have to do "Shift ?" to find informaion in fields. LIke give me a break. Give us a key to hit, like, I don't know, Search, that't be good. No, make us type Shift ?. Where do these people get off. Do they ever even type on these programs? Or talk to the people who use them.

MT is so antiquated when it comes to programming, it is a big joke. Anyone work for a company that gets the demographics and has fast, easy programming, let me know. TX
We have a separate work type for Short Stay
Usually the summary looks almost like a DS, but sometimes they start out like an H&P, where they appear to be dictating a combination H&P and DS.
if you purchase bytescribe/docshuttle, you can actually upload the completed work back on there. nm
;
Easy to work with. You can look up old reports. Your own word expander will work
s
Yes! Thank you. $28 a day is fine with me. Easy work.
***Hello***
Sorry you have to use Medicrap, but I use IT where I work and it works just fine.
Its amazing how un-MT friendly that program is and how the hospital administrators don't care that Medicrap won't fix anything.
I work on ExText and
there is only one screen that I have to go through to get to the actual screen where I transcribe. Also, it is a Word based platform so it has a spell check just like word. It also has an Expander called ESP built into the program. I like it a lot. It's pretty much just like typing in Word.
work for hospital account - use lots of expanders - nm
x
So you use MCI for unlimited LD for work and they're fine with it? About how many minutes do you
use per month, do you think?
Word 97 thru 2007 all work fine on Vista.
xx
I work at OSi in Extext and my Smartype
no problems
I work in EXText with one and just Word with the other. SM

The EXText job is a employee status job I took for benefits.  I work as a remote MT for a 235-bed community hospital.  I would say I do the same 20 docs or so on a weekly basis.  The other account is a dermatology account that is my own and I do three docs there.

I should add that with the hospital I have a great boss who basically lets us expand everything.  Same with my derm account.  They really don't care, just as long as the works on time and the notes and letters are basically what they said.  No exactly verbatim, but close.

The company I work for uses ExText, and
they say to never, never use the tab key as it causes alignment errors. I hate it, but you might want to talk to your technical people before you work on your macros any further.

My reports looked fine on my screen, but once I sent them on the alignment was changing.

I blame Microsoft.

I work for 2 places that both use Extext
You should be able to use pedal for both places as long as they both use Extext.
It is Word. ExText is the word expander
:)
Winscribe is fine where I work. But if a mic is malfunctioning, sound quality is suboptimal.
cc
Yes, I agree. Free is a good price and Express Scribe will work just fine for you. (nm)

that you do not use an expander when you work.

Part-time work using Extext/word client/dictaphone
Anyone know any companies that are hiring that use this system?  I really want to start part-time and then probably commit to full time later.  I really want a company that supplies your equipment!  Thanks.
Help please my expander won't work with Chartscript...sm
Oh my gosh!!  My Expander doesn't work with Chartscript.  I just started this new account today.  My Smartype Word Expander does not work.  The client recommended Instantext but I downloaded it and it isn't working either.  Am I doing something wrong?  How do I get it to recognize the word expander.  My spellcheck isn't working either.  I have Spellmed spellcheck.  I am lost without my expander and spellcheck.  Any suggestions?
How do you get the shorthand word expander to work in 'word client'?
nt
My people skills are just fine. I just want to hire people who want to work.
I've not been ugly, I've asked questions, legitimate ones.  Please tell me what is wrong with that.  This site is not just for MTs, it is for QA Editors, Supervisors, Service Owners, there's even sections for Billers, Coders, and Nurses.
POLL: Productivity gain using your expander and what expander you use.
Guess I need to make it work harder.
The shortcuts expander works with the Bayscribe expander as well.
All at the same time.
What word expanders work best with MS word? Or..

.. is there another way?   Do many use the "autocorrect" to make your own word Expander without having to purchase anything?  Does that workout well or is it best to buy expander software?

I'm setting things up to start again after a couple years out of hte business.  My Spellex spellchecker expired and I had to purchase a new spellchecker.  Also wanting to get my expander going.  GAH!  It's a bit spendy to get things going again... not fun.

It IS ExText, Word is simply the word proccessor used. ExText is marketed
by Dictaphone with Transnet and ESP is the expansion software incorporated into it. I used this platform when I worked for the hospital. I believe Wordclient is the speech recognition portion of this platform.
I would have to separate by category!

first 3 that come to mind are:  The Notebook, Hope Floats and Sweet Home Alabama (SHA didn't get rave reviews, but I just loved that movie!)

ET, Titanic and Forrest Gump are like classics and you HAVE to love them!

Independence Day, MIB, most of the Marvel (comics) movies, Van Helsing and both Underworlds top my list too!

Oh, and then there is the animated stuff... the list is never ending! (and we own over 400 DVDs!)

Not on a separate line, per se
but separated by paragraphs. It looks something like:

Name #1
Address
City, State, Zip

Name #2
Address
City, State, Zip

...and so on.
MS Word not separate (SM)
MS bundles Word with their MS Office product. Previous companies I have worked for had MS Word alone on a generic disk. As far as I know, none of them are in jail yet.

OpenOffice.org provides a program that rivals MS Office. You can download it for FREE from their site. If you are doing this for work however, I don't know that it would be compatible with platforms you would be using - I'd say probably not.

Should you need to purchase MS Office so you can have MS Word, check out newegg.com. I know with operating systems such as Windows XP, you can buy versions that computer builders use - no fancy packages, just a disk and a license - for significantly less than what you'd pay for an off-the-shelf product at say Staples. Don't know if you can do the same with Office. Check out CNet.com for reviews. CNet.com also has forums where you can post a question and an Editor will answer you.

Good Luck!
I have a separate office
Although it's open and doesn't have doors.
I use a separate room
I have a 2 bedroom place, hubby and I use the master room and I transcribe in the "office." This keeps me, for the most part, without distractions other than those I create myself. I set up a place for my cats to sleep so they don't sleep on the computer desk, and have found that this works the best for me...very short attention span when I tried it in the living room. Just don't move work into the bedroom you sleep in, might cause sleep problems.
Are they separate checks (sm)
totalling 12,000+.  You'd have to check the court system, but that may actually be over the amount for small claims court and you'd have to go to the next level.  Has she made ANY attempt to pay any of it?  Do you have any "demands" for payment in writing?  If not, I think I'd get that in the mail today.  You need to establish a papertrail.  Formal demand asking for payment in a set period of time by cash or money order.  Send it cert mail with return receipt.
Yes I did have a separate firewall....sm
I have also used the AVG for years. My friend has also used it for years. I know a lot of people who have used it and continue to with no problems. I had no problems until someone hacked into my computer. When I took it to the computer guy, he said you are using a free AVG version. He said that is the problem. He said why do you think they are free? They don't fully protect your computer. I have no idea with a firewall on how they still got into my computer but they did. My friend had someone hack into hers while using AVG free version and separate firewall and stole her identity. I am just trying to keep the expensive mistake I made from happening to other people. It is costing me $250 to have the computer repaired.
Yes, separate computer sm
I have kept an older computer with SP2 but don't have the original CD rom. I use it for checking personal e-mails etc.,, will try it tomorrow, sore neck from trying to "make it work". Will try tomorrow when my neck feels better. Stress........Thanks for trying to help me.  Of all things, to misplace a CD rom, how dumb am I????

Two separate issues

Her medical records were indeed compromised several years ago and they did a sting with the doctor to find out who it was.  The person responsible, ironically, died of cancer before she could be prosecuted.  Farrah talks about it in the documentary.  The documentary itself is Farrah and Alanna filming her treatment and journey over the last year or so.

do we have to purchase a
Do independent contractors working from home have to have a business license to work from home? Please help as this issue has been raised. Thanks for any help!
Where did you purchase? sm
I bought one from Exprescribe like that and never could get it to work.
Does anyone know if you can purchase
a C-phone locally or you have to get them on the web? I am freaking out. A little bit of water got spilled on mine and the buttons will not work now. I let it dry out overnight and it seems fine when you plug it in, but none of the buttons will work!
Does anyone know where I can purchase sm.

VoiceScribe program?  I am offered a position with a company but they only give you a 30-day trial for this program - then after that you have to purchase license for $600.  I just can't afford that right now.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

definitely purchase something

I got a Brother fax machine several years ago at Office Depot for around $80 or so.  I later got an HP all-in-one in 2005 at Sam's.  I don't remember what it cost, but it's worth it if you'll be faxing regularly.  Some of your clients may prefer a scanned version.

You could also compare on-line fax capabilities, which seems to be more current, for obvious reasons.  I can't remember the details, but I've heard it advertised on talk radio.

Just a thought, especially if you'll be doing this regularly.  Places like the UPS Store, etc. charge a good bit to fax, not to mention the inconvenience of leaving the house to do it.

Yes, it sure is. I was told on 3 separate occasions that
I could use it for work but when they saw how much I was racking up in charges, they told me I was not eligible and sent me a $2500 bill.  I would be careful if I were you!!!!!
Or try to get the kids a separate policy
xx
set up a separate entry for that with all caps. that's what I do.
x
its separate from hair and nails
is around 40k a year.  Thats the highest ive made as an MT.  You need a license, go through state board, and there are several schools throughout the US.  Just do a search on "aesthetic or esthetic schools"
I use a C phone and 2 separate lines.. sm
I have DSL and I was not able to have my DSL on the same line as my C phone though now I cannot remember why it did not work. I do know that if it had worked I would not have had a phone to use to call out or receive calls while I was working (which was fine by me.. my family knows to call my cell). At any rate, because of the fact the C phone and DSL did not co-exist I had to use a separate line for my C phone and then my DSL is on another line and that frees up my main phone line for calls in and out.
Are the numbers in a separate column? sm
If yes, go to the Data menu and choose sort, then sort by the letter of the column.
