ExpressScribe and audio files

Thanks for your reply.  I have used ExpressScribe before, but my predicament is that I need something that will play dictation that has been burned onto a CD.  My CD-RW drive is drive D, and I do not know how to get ExpressScribe to load the dictation that is in that drive. Can anyone help?

ExpressScribe - how do I delete files?
How do I delete old audio files from ExpressScribe?  These are the ones that I can go and recover if I've deleted from my main screen but they are still backed up.  I've got a ton and don't need to keep any of them - they are just taking up memory space.  Anyone know?
How to get ExpressScribe to pick up FTP files???
Everytime I click on the file to play it pulls up window media player and it gives me an error.  How do I get Express Scribe to play the files?
No old audio files listed

Best player for poor quality audio files?
I'm on a new account using primarily .wav and .dss files -- I can use whatever player I want and am currently using Express Scribe (just because its free!) -- but these files are not the best quality, and I wish I had more controls available to try to tweak them a bit. If anyone has experience with any other audio player software that they think is better than Express Scribe, would you let me know?  Thanks much.
Filezilla is the software used to transfer files to an FTP server where the files "reside".

I too had a problem months ago and it froze up. I spoke to the company. They said it was because I had too many other programs running and using too much RAM, that it did not leave enuf for EXS. to work properly. They even suggested adding more RAM. They said EXS requires a certain amount of RAM, etc., to function appropriately. Could this be part of your problem too?
ExpressScribe
Yes, I have been using it for almost a year now and have never had any problems.
ExpressScribe
I had this problem just after Christmas when I got a new computer and downloaded ExpressScribe.  After searching through their forums, I found out that a lot of people were having a problem, there was some glitch in the program, and everyone was going back and downloading the previous version, which resolved the problem.  This worked for me as well. Good luck.
Anything other than ExpressScribe?

Am I the only one that doesn't like ExpressScribe? The audio always sounds very digitized to me. Are there any other better programs out there?

ExpressScribe
Hi. Just an opinion, but why don't you try ExpressScribe first and see if that meets your needs? It is free and it is as good, as far as I can tell. You may have to buy a foot pedal that will work with it, or may not. Mine does not. Try the keyboard controls though and see what you think.
Converting voice files to digital files

I have a Voice Solutions dictation system that will happily convert DS4000 voice files to digital when they are downloaded (wave files). However, it will not recognize any other files for conversion. I had a physician download .WAM files from his DS-30 and my dictation system would not convert it. Anyone have any suggestions?  I would greatly appreciate any input.

Thanks!!!

An ExpressScribe Question
How do you set the backspace when I lift my foot off the pedal?  Mine is not backspacing at all and I can't' figure out how to set it.  Thanks.
contact expressscribe..sm
a lot of these programs were not ready for Vista yet. I would have waited at least a year before buying Vista due to just that reason. Personally maybe you should have found out of ExpressScribe was compatible with Vista prior to buying the laptop with it preinstalled. It would have saved a lot of hassle.
You might try downloading ExpressScribe.
I think it has a few test files when you first down load it that you could practice on.
expressScribe/Quicktime sm

I downloaded ExpressScribe for work but I also have QuickTime so I can use ITunes.  The QuickTime seems to over-ride the ExpressScribe and play the audio files which are dictation.  I want to use the ExpressScribe so I can use my foot pedal.  When I uninstall QuickTime ExpressScribe works, when I reinstall QuickTime only QuickTime works.  So QuickTime must be set to default or something.

Anybody know how I can get both these to work or is there another player that will work with the USB footpedal to play the dictations but still allow QuickTime on the computer for other stuff?

Thanks

ExpressScribe hot keys
If you open the ExpressScribe and go to control, then hot key set up you can make it work by assigning keys.  I work in MS Word and was using F5 to open files, but when I have the ExpressScribe reduced and hit F5 it opens the ExpressScribe window instead of my Word file.  I just assigned a different key to open and close the ExpressScribe.  You can also create a new one to assign a file to "done" so you don't have to use your mouse.
ExpressScribe question...sm

I am taking a test for a part time job.  It is required to download ExpressScribe to take the test.  I also had to install some additional files so that ExpressScibe would recognize .sri files.  I did this also.  Well when I go to play the file on there there is nothing, and it says under duration of file:  00:00 minutes.  It is like the file has nothing on it.  Did I do something wrong or is that file corrupated or what?

ExpressScribe is locking up my

Has anyone had this happened to you lately?  I have been Express Scribe for years and never had any issues with it.  About 2 or 3 weeks ago ES started making my computer run really really really slow.  I checked the Task Manager and it says that ES is making my computer run at 100%.  Why is this?  If I close ES everything runs fine.  I contactd tech support 3 times but they have never gotten back to me.  I even uninstalled it and reinstalled it and that didn't work either.   What should I do?  Are there other free transcription audio players out there?

Thanks so much in advance

You can download ExpressScribe for free.
Do a Google search for the URL.   You can use your keyboard to control the dictation to do testing.
I use Dictaphone ExText with ExpressScribe.

Question about ExpressScribe & Vista

My mother uses ExpressScribe and she has recently upgraded to Vista.   She is still able to get ExpressScribe to work but her serial foot pedal no longer works.  We purchased an adapter, but haven't had any success getting it to work with Vista.

Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Shona

If you got the file there, then you should be able to download ExpressScribe and load it into

I use an Infinity and it works fine with ExpressScribe. (nm)

If a service wants you to use GearPlayer, though, you can't substitute with ExpressScribe. nm

ExpressScribe-Computer running slow

My ExpressScribe is making my computer run really really slow and in the task manager it is at 100%.  When I close it, my computer works fine?  How do I fix this?  Thanks

Check out ExpressScribe. There is a way with them and it is free. Microcassettes also.

Did you save files in .rtf format? The files need to be
as a Word document or it won't count them. Could be the problem.
Anyone know if a pedal with Dictaphone adapter will work with ExpressScribe?

Thanks !!!

Listening to audio again.
You should hear prompts if the C-phone is programmed to allow you the option. "Press
3 to listen...punch in the job number followed by the pound sign." The audio should come back. You need to know what number they used
to program the function and the job number.
and what number they used.
Yes, the net connection comes right up. Get the KVM that allows audio, too, though, so you don't

Full audio QA
If you do this, then they need to pay you QA pay in addition to line count pay.
You listen to the audio with
your mouse.  UGH!  I have tested and was a CMT in the past, but for many reasons, I did not renew in 2006.  Recently, I have been thinking of taking the test again.  I have transcribed so many years with that foot pedal that I am really a mess trying to get through an audio file with the mouse and keyboard.  How long in minutes would you say an entire audio was?  Congratulations!  The pay raise you received is a great incentive!
audio rate
I've never been paid this way, but it seems that you would have about 3600 seconds of audio time. I have typed reports that long before (even ESL at that) and it only took me at most 2 hours, so $20 per hour doesn't sound too bad. Maybe you can up 'em to $50, though, just to be sure you're getting what your worth.
audio rates?
thanks.  I definitely don't want to be shortchanged.  thanks again.
Need help with USB plug, no audio
Just tried a new USB headset and now no audio at all. Did what I was asked to do but noticed under control panel it is not acknowleding the USB, saying SoundMax digital and cannot get the USB to show and also under sounds it says no sounds. I have unplugged several tiems, rebooted several times and have no clue as to how to get sound now. TIA.
Audio Codecs
You have to know which codec was used to compress the file and then you can usually find it and download it. Also, try to play the file in Windows Media Player and it may automatically download the correct codec.
DS2 audio format
Joan, the Bytescribe WavPlayer will play the new Olympus DS2 audio format. If I can help you let me know.
getting good audio
I am finding more and more that companies with their own platforms have pretty substandard audio.  I currently use headsets and alternate with my computer speakers, but the audio is quite bad on the current platform I use.  When using Editscript I find the quality much better.  Any suggestions on how to get better quality of sound perhaps a better headset or some other device.
Free audio conversion...
It might be a trial thing, and I can't remember but is works extremely well and is an easy step-by-step thing.

Most places pay per audio hour
Unless it is paying $60+ per audio/recorded hour, it is not worth it. I did this for awhile. It is tedious and hard to make a decent wage.
Price per audio hour?
I would like some assistance, please.  Is $60/audio hour transcription a fair and standard wage?  Never transcribed audio before so that is why I am asking.  Thanks very much for your response.  K-O-K-O.
Digital Audio Player?
What digital audio player prints a time stamp in Word?

Thanks for your feedback.

rates per audio hour?
does anyone get paid like this?  I have been offered a job doing general transcription, approximately 6 hours per week, and they pay $40 per audio hour.  I have only ever been paid per line so not sure if this is good or bad.  I have listened to some of the dictation already and it is not difficult to understand so that part shouldn't be a problem. Thanks.
Rate per audio minute?
Ok, I've had to do flashdrives with patients on them that have already been typed, lose my nice account to India, re-visit E&O insurance, and now I have someone offering me a job that pays 0.67 cents per audio minute.  I'm old, still do tapes, and could any of you new folks tell me, is this the trend these days?  Thank you kindly.
My audio would not even permit 800 an hour
I have it as fast as it can go, never hardly stopping and could never get 800 an hour.
They mean cost per audio hour s/m
Sounds like they are referring to cost per audio hour, so be careful.  Depending on quality and dictators, one audio hour can take anywhere from 2 to 10 hours.
fast forward audio?...
what does that mean? and are you really editing all for 99% QA or just fixing the "bigger issues." i'm not being snide, i really want to know your secret; my system is anywhere between regular typing speed to 1500 per report but averages out much lower than what you are getting.
Gearplayer, Cyberplayer, ExpressScribe,Transcription Buddy, Stop/Start questions

When you work for yourself which voice player do you prefer?  I have tried all of the above players and all of them seem to distort the voice when you slow it down.  Why can't these players slow down files like the platforms MTSOs use?

I think people don't understand what an audio hour is.
It's typing a one-hour long tape for $20. If it takes 3-4 hours, that's only actually $5-6.67 per hour. Hmm, I wonder why Guru didn't send that one to me! LOL
Look at Audio Advantage by Turtle Beach

It is a USB thing that looks like a flash drive and it bypasses the sound card.  It has lots of settings to adjust to improve sound.   I got it and didn't think it made much difference, but then didn't use it for a couple of days and realized that it did make a difference.  I got mine at Best Buy for about $30.  There have 3 different levels and I think Audio Advantage is the middle one (which was the only one they had at Best Buy).  You can Google Audio Advantage by Turtle Beach and probably find their website.

Creative is a good brand of sound card and likely it isn't the sound card that is the problem, just poor quality dictation.  The USB thing above will help, but if you don't have good dictation to work work, you can only do so much.   If you don't have them also try noise-cancelling headphones.  They are rather pricey, though can probably get a good pair for about $60 or less on sale, and they make a significant difference too.
