Food/medicine caught in throat

This very thing happened to me while eating pizza one day - I ended up in the ER because I could not get it out or to go down.  The ER doc ordered a chest x-ray (do not know why) and then sent me home with some Prilosec saying that I had esophagitis.  It was a rainy day - two dogs chased my car home and I was afraid to get out - plus I had my sister's four children that week, besides my own two.  I took a Prilosec and then had to have my husband rush to the pharmacy for some Benadryl - I was allergic to the dye - then, and I don't recommend this, I got a long-handled teaspoon - bent it and stuck it down my throat - retrieving the pizza dough.  I still had esophagitis because my throat was now inflamed from the pizza and the spoon handle - I put the chewed up dough in a ziploc and returned it to the ER for an explanation - of course they thought I was crazy - but you do what you have to do.  I have found that many doctors are either incompetent or on drugs (cocaine, meth, and others that they either sniff or smoke).  That is why there is such a high malpractice rate (but that's another story).  In fact, I see a doctor now who is a drug-abuser - but he prescribes what me or my family needs when we go to see him and we get well - but boy is he high - nice, though.  That's my take on the ibuprofen in your throat.

Has anyone else had this sore throat/tickly throat/cough

It started with a mild sore throat, then went to a REALLY BAD sore throat, tickly throat so I coughed and couldn't sleep, started getting a runny nose, then sinuses stuffy/sinus headache, sore throat got worse - was starting to think it was strep.  Yesterday was the worst; felt like crap.  Last night - started to feel better!  Finally last night I was able to SLEEP.  Today I have felt SO much better.  Not back to normal, but at least I was able to drink a cup of coffee.  Every other day I have poured myself a cup and then it just sat on my desk all day.  My throat is MUCH better and althought I am getting twinges of pain in it from time to time, it's not constant like it has been the last several days.  I don't like this, whatever it is!

I would think it was strep except DD had it too and she got over it.  She said her teacher had it and the teacher said her doctor told her it's a viral thing.

Food stamps, WIC, food banks, churches, family...
There are many answers to that problem.

No one has the right to steal and writing a dishonorable check is stealing. It is called "theft of property".

My tax dollars support government programs to prevent people from going hungry and to provide for women, infants, and children. I make donations to food banks and churches, etc., for those who just need help as well.
Food for the staff and doctors, if you can afford it. Food is always a big hit in a doctor's off

One of the biggest perks I can remember when I worked in a doctor's office was when the drug reps or orthopedic equipment reps would cater lunch for the whole office just so they could meet with the docs.  The whole office would get so jazzed at the idea of free lunch.

If you can't afford to cater lunch, then I would do something like a muffin basket and bagels always go over well.  But food is your best bet.

Really???? I miss 'burgh food. Philly food is okay, but it
x
The food is resturant quality food and very good
XX
so you're a cut throat
oh please.. spare me... pound what pavement?  Some of us come by accounts because the doctor knows we are reliable or by word of mouth.  It happens; welcome to the world of MT and NOT working for nationals.  So NO to nationals!  LOL
Everybody cramming that CHRISTmas down your throat is as SM
annoying to me as anything. We all know what Christmas is and why it's celebrated without getting smacked in the side of the head with it. You don't look any better than the people who get mad over "Merry Christmas" by doing that stuff.
Anyone ever get a pill stuck in their throat?
I took an ibuprofen capsule on Wednesday morning (for a sore throat I'd had for a week, rapid strep neg).  The first one went down but the other one seemed to stick. It's still there and I just can't get it to go. It's not really down in the throat...it seems to be higher than that. It's making my throat hurt down to the collarbone and up to the ears. I can get it to move around some, but it just won't go down. I don't know whether I should call me regular doctor, go to urgent care, just wait for it to go down or what?
Not to be an alarmist, but did you know they can spread down her throat and into her lungs? You know
how we all here of the weird few who almost die from chickenpox? That's my family.  We have horrible illnesses when we've had chickenpox. Especially once in the oral cavity, I would NOT mess with it and I'd get my kids to the doctor immediately.  I barely remember it, but my airway was compromised, etc, and I ended up in the hospital.  Not to mention how much those sores hurt.  You need to give him/her some viscous Lidocaine or something from the doctor. Please go for medical help!
I know! And did you see the way she jumped down my throat assuming that I was talking about HER!
Talk about soapbox. But I do agree with you
Have you had a sore throat lately? Don't call me crazy, but....

My legs from the calves down, and especially my ankles, have been swollen

since about the first part of February.  I walk around like a "weeble-wobble" doll.

And I thought, gosh, am I too fat?!, eating too much salt?!

Why don't they go down overnight or when I prop them up?

Well, finally I found out that I probably have Hoen-Schoenlein (or something like that) purpura.

They say it recurs.  It usually is in kids, but can happen in adults.

IT HAPPENS AFTER A SORE THROAT.  It is in the autoimmune family.  Sometimes they will give you steroids for it -- but mostly you have to just ride it out.

They really don't know what causes it - but like I said they do suspect it comes in correlation with a sore throat.......and I have had that horrible flu that hit in Feb and I have had recurrence of the flu/sore throat about every 6 wks (as do a lot of  the folks I know).

They say the purpura/swollen legs and ankles can last for 6-8 wks or longer.

So, if you have really funky swollen legs and don't have luck with them going down after leaving off salt, drinking plenty of water, and not drinking caffeinated drinks -- it may be HENOCH-SCHONLEIN purpura.

What is HSP?

Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP or anaphylactoid purpura) is a form of blood vessel inflammation or vasculitis. There are many different conditions that feature vasculitis. Each of the forms of vasculitis tends to involve certain characteristic blood vessels. HSP affects the small arterial vessels called capillaries in the skin and frequently the kidneys. HSP results in skin rash (most prominent over the buttocks and behind the lower extremities associated with joint inflammation (arthritis) and sometimes cramping pain in the abdomen.

What causes HSP?

HSP occurs most often in the spring and frequently follows an infection of the throat or breathing passages. HSP seems to represent an unusual reaction of the body's immune system that is in response to this infection (either bacteria or virus). Aside from infection, drugs can also trigger the condition. HSP occurs most commonly in children, but persons of all age groups can be affected.

What are symptoms of HSP?

Classically, HSP causes skin rash, pain in the abdomen, and joint inflammation (arthritis). Not all features need be present for the diagnosis. The rash of skin lesions appears in gravity-dependent areas, such as the legs. The joints most frequently affected with pain and swelling are the ankles and the knees. Patients with HSP can develop fever. Inflammation of the blood vessels in the kidneys can cause blood and/or protein in the urine. Serious kidney complications are infrequent, but can occur. Sometimes a biopsy of skin and/or kidney is used in assisting the diagnosis, which is typically made based on the clinical findings.

Symptoms usually last approximately a month. Recurrences are not frequent, but do occur.

What-ev-er! I'm sick of people shoving their homosexuality down my throat.

ENT=Ears, nose and throat. HEENT=Head, eyes,
x
Well I have a chronically stuffed up head, irritated throat and headache and I am getting sick of
it. Dont know if it is allergies or sinuses. I dont want to be taking antibiotics because mostly they dont help but I wish I knew what to use to help this. It gets old and tiresome. My throat feels sore and hurts. I always sound like I have a cold and I dont.
MT and medicine in general

The greedy guts smelled the ability to MAKE A PROFIT in the field of medicine

and "there went the neighborhood."

It used to be a sign of respect to be a doctor - now they just work for the company store and are running out the door with the nurses at quitting time - throwing any patient they may be seeing to the winds.  One even told me to hurry up and make up my mind because she had to go pick up her kids at daycare!

And so has medical transcription - some guy in a tie said QUANTITY OF LINES COULD = MUCHO PROFIT...

Of course those people don't care if a few people die along the way because of errors. - well not at least until it's their leg that's amputated by mistake.

Going into medicine. I have 2 MT friends
who are already in medical school. One MT I worked with at a large hospital is now an anesthesiologist making about $300K a year. Hahaha Should I hope to do so well. Hahaha

Know 1 who is a psychotherapist now. Know 1 who got her MBA and works in government contracting and 1 who got his MS and works for JCAHO.

Lots of things to do out there! It's much easier to decide what you want to do now that you're experienced in life and know what the real investments and rewards are. I'd go on to commercial flight school if I weren't going into medicine. I have a private license. Would LOVE to be Lear certified! Would love to fly a medical helicopter. You can get funding for those flight programs, too! Not a traditional classroom setup. If I don't get into med school, I may be doing that! Hahaha

Internal Medicine
Are they hiring at all right now?  Let me know.  Am interested in part-time, evenings and weekends.
Do you all type when you are sick? I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a stiff achy

neck and my body was kind of stiff all over, but I ignored it, got the kids off to school, and went about my usual routine of having my morning coffee and reading the paper.  I don't start work until noon every day.  As the morning wore on, my body got achier and achier and I started having chills and basically had to huddle under three blankets so I would quit shivering.  I took my temperature and it was 102.3 and I'm wonder if I have strep throat or something.  I tend to pick that up about once a year and amy pretty familiar with the symptoms.

I couldn't bare the thought of calling sick especially because I work at home and I always think it's kind of lame to call in sick when you don't physically have to go much farther then down the stairs.  I always feel extremely guilty whenever I have called in for illness in the past.  Do you guys feel that way?  Like we're somehow not entitled to take sick days because we already working from home.  I mean, I have them accrued and I am truly sick, why should I feel bad about taking one when I actually need it?

Anyway, I took a handful of Motrin and the aching has eased up and I'm sweating like a pig so the fever broke for now, and now I just feel really tired and would love to lay down and take a nap, but just feel like I shouldn't and dread the idea of calling my boss.

Oh well, guess I'll suffer through like I always do.  Every once in a while working at home doesn't feel quite fair.

Unfortunately after paying $140.00 for the medicine (30 days) sm
after two weeks I broke out in hives and had to stop taking it.
"The Language of Medicine" sm
is a very good book and very thorough. I would recommend it highly.
Rehab medicine will include PT, OT, sm
speech therapy, etc.
MT is usually for medicine. Nursing is a different discipline.
X
Well, after all the doctors are only "Practicing" Medicine, right? nm
.
Perhaps, but there will also be no incentive to go into medicine for US docs, SM
when they get out of med school they have debt, will have to set up a practice, pay their staff, etc. What is the incentive if you can earn a limited income.

I say let the free market decide.
I don’t think he would just out of the blue suggest the medicine
Probably you made mention of having had the cervical cancer and that is where the dialogue started, right? As far as the x-ray, think that is being overplayed with that and fertility. Loads of children, females included, have x-rays when younger and do not lose their ability to have children. You sound like you are stressed out, mentioning this and that, xrays, miscarriages, sterility, etc., etc.
My wonderful MD is having to leave medicine sm
Because she can't afford to practice!!! The compensation for primary care docs SUX. The Blues owe her about $60K she can't collect on care she has already provided. The year I was her MT, her practice paid me $3000, it paid her $2500 FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. She literally didn't take home a paycheck all year and took the $2500 at the end when she didn't have to pay it out. In the end, that money went to pay a lawyer to try to collect from the Blues.

I have a very complicated medical history and still have many significant problems. The idea of changing doctors right now makes me sick. I won't have any more choice about that than my doctor has about leaving the profession. She is a wonderful doctor and has cared for me for 20 years. I am sick over this.
Muscle relaxants could help also. I am on migraine medicine too but...
if it is caused by your muscles trapping the occipital nerve, injections would help, both diagnostically and therapeutically. They would then know how to proceed with your next step in treatment. The stimulator was a miracle until the lead wires moved. If the injections do not help, it rules out one type of headache and on to the next. I use Cafergot for my migraines with aura (a whole different headache altogether), but that has been discontinued now. I really wish you luck!
OT: Changing face of veterinary medicine (sm)

Is it only me or has veterinary medicine changed quite a bit over the years to resemble care of humans?  I have cats and absolutely love them but I'm becoming torn between necessary care, preventive care, and just down-right UN-necessary care.  I remember back when animals went to the vet for shots and only when they got sick.  If they were sick, diagnosis and prognosis dictated the next level of care.  And in most cases back then there were no options other than to let nature take its course if something serious/chronic was found.

I'm now noticing that every time I take one of the cats to the vet's, the doc wants to do "baseline" blood work at least once a year and now wants to see my ten-year-old cat on a twice-yearly basis.  My kitty is healthy as a horse and has had no health problems for ten years.  Why all of a sudden does he need expensive BASELINE lab work and xrays as well as needing to be seen twice a year and have his teeth cleaned twice a year (not cheap)?  It sounds like I'm complaining about the money end versus taking care of my kitty, and I suppose in a sense I am, because this adds up to a whole lot over the course of time.  The doc mentioned the reasons for the lab work (diabetes, thyroid problems, anemia, cancer, etc.)  I'm torn between having the work done and what I would do if anything chronic showed up on the tests.  I love my kitty but don't know if spending lots of money on chronic meds/therapy would be an option when I would have to weigh other expenses against them.

We come in contact daily with much more true medicine sm

medical problems, diagnoses, treatment, that nurses do.  I question my nurse practitioner, constantly, about why she is prescribing certain medications for me.  She seems to have a lot less knowledge of these medications than I do.  (btw, she resents it).

It is JCAHO. The most misspelled acronym in medicine! nm
x
Nope. Many years working at the School of Medicine. SM

An MS4 is a med student till June graduation. He's "Mister So-and-So" then in June when he graduates, he's "Doctor So-and-So."

A 4th year resident is something else entirely. He is an R4 (or that's what they call them here). HE is an MD. The MS4 is not an MD.

Normal x-rays, CT scans, nuclear medicine
scans, nuclear medicine procedures and tests, etc. Anything procedure associated with radiology, which can include op reports dictated by the radiology interventionists.
Kids certainly not the reason for me, I loved the field of medicine
I had started working in hospital settings about 10 years before I ever knew about transcribing. Working at a hospital in another section my boss told me since I typed fast she had a friend who worked in MTing at the hospital, they had an opening and you could make extra money the more you typed, the more you could make. Being as my speed was 130-140, thought perfect job for me. I think loving the actual work rather than just doing to stay home is the main reason I have done as long as I have, no burn out for this person.
Oh good grief! No way. The only Dixie I know of is a forensic medicine person...
not a former bank manager.  Maybe there are 2 of them.
I see you are caught in

already.

In some offices you continually run out of work - and MQ gives you

no policy in writing as to what your rights are or what they will

provide in the way of "buffer".  All they do is say "we can give you more

accounts".

Well, sitting in front of a computer 24 hours a day and still not finding

enough work on dozens of accounts is not being a good business

person.

Having an account or else built in protection for times when there is no work

is BEING A GOOD BUSINESS PERSON.

Even if you are an employee, and there is no work, suddenly you find you

are RESPONSIBLE for the huge medical insurance bill - for several pay periods "because you didn't meet your line requirement"

I'm telling you, this company needs to either standardize it's politicies and

be up front with what they do, or forever go through the system as being

utterly slippery and underhanded, and deserve the reputation they so

deservedly have right now.  Of course they have their own agenda and could

care less about posters like me who have been through the drill until I was ground

down into the ground and broke, because they are "using" MTs to position themselves into the world of VR.  And it will have been done on the backs

of many MTs who lost it all thinking at some point MQ would finally "do right"

They haven't and probably will never.

So my advice is, if you can't get some policies in writing from whereever possible

(New Jersey just flips you off, so don't waste your time there), don't invest too

much in this company as you will be at their mercy and feel like you are never on solid ground financially.  It is not a company to work for if you need the

money for a living.  It is merely to pick up pocket change.

What caught my eye was sm
"it's a teaching hospital". Been there, done that. Get ready for ESLs that change every year. You might like it, but you'll earn every cent. On the plus side, you'll learn so much more than with a nonteaching hospital, which is good. Let us know what you decide.
AVG has caught several
viruses. I also run online scans on sites like Trend Micro, Panda, etc., on occasion just to double-check the effectiveness of AVG & make sure it hasn't missed anything. I've been using AVG free for about 10 years I guess and, like I said, AVG has caught several viruses and I've never once had a crash or lost anything in all these years due to viruses, and I've turned all my friends and family onto AVG free & they've never had any issues with viruses, so I have to say that I'm extremely happy with it, especially considering it's free... Doesn't get any better than that! ;)
Absolutely, because if they are caught twice, they've probably done it
x
Maybe I caught him at a bad time or maybe he is
going through some personal problems in his life that he is carrying over into the workplace.  In any event, I could not foresee a good working relationship with this individual in the future.
You are offshore and got caught.
/
Missed most of it but what I caught was fun!!
t
My son is only 7, so he hasn't caught on yet
that I'm not talking to him. He still says "what" all the time...lol. So, I'll look at him and say, "do you know what flagginationalization means?" Cracks him up every time.
caught off gaurd

I started with a new company about 40 days ago - I trained on one account for about three days and the was given two docs to do with really no training only a manual.   I have been doing them for about 35 days.  My first QA score about ten days or so after the start of these docs was 96%,  my second on 5/20 was 98%.  I really have not gotten any negative feed back other than some format issues which were worked out quickly.  I have been meeting my TAT, proofing and covering what they asked.  There has not been any complaint that has been brought to my attention that I can pinpiont.  This past weekend, I got sent a whole bunch of work to help cover someone on vacation, my work was pushed back by my QA and supervisor.   Needless to say my accounts were not very happy and were not told in advance.  This evening I get a call from the supervisor saying that due to a call from the docs office about poor TAT and quality she was removing me from the account.  I have an email this same supervisor sent me from the docs office dated June 5 saying the account was finally looking up.   I asked the supervisor to pinpoint the issues but she was not able to at this time and told me to hold tight until she gets some more info.   I don't know what to think. Any opinions or suggestions???

Okay, I'm caught up to the posts below
.
I have no idea about his being caught but
working from home I kept my eye peeled for the report and checked every so often. You know the time frame as far as dictating- what 24 hours? This was 8 months later. If he did to me, well you know the rest. Like I said, he personally called me from another sister hospital 2 times and very incensed that I would even approach mediation at the hospital. Of course when I took my story there along with the documentation, he refused to comment on it, denying all. I at that time could not afford to lose my job so I could not press on with it. Called several attorneys and each one said no one would be on my side being as this was an elective procedure I chose and a face lift at the same time so dead end for me.
I don't think everything is caught - like the job resumes
with addresses like Mumbai, Hawaii.  Could it be a name, not a place?
Sweet. Someone caught it ;-)
All is write with the world now.

Seriously, though, can we let the poor woman vent without picking on her grammar?
Thank goodness you caught it and not QA
 thanks for the chuckle
LOL.... caught me off guard...
nm
I hope she's caught too...
I'm also 40-50 miles from this woman. I hope she's caught and put away for this. Thanks so much for warning us that this is going on.
It just caught me off guard. I really wasn't trying to
criticize. Sorry!
