Arrow
What does the arrow mean in front of a post?
You probably hit Contol-Alt-down arrow. nm
 x
control alt up arrow
Hopefully should get you there. If not, keeping doing the control alt with the arrows and eventually it will turn the correct way. If it goes upside down, then do the control alt up arrow.
Got it - Ctrl+Alt+Up Arrow
xx
I also do VR but the arrow keys?
Maybe I am doing wrong but I do not use the arrow keys hardly at all. Why are you using these, are you supposed to? I think escription tells you not to use the mouse, well I hate to tell them but never have given that up. They say use hot keys, never have. Just too set in my ways to start at this late date. I never have any problems with arms, shoulders, on and on.
Arrow Keys
I use Dictaphone EXT and they told me not to use the mouse but to use the arrow keys to move around in the document.
Try hitting CONTROL and DOWN ARROW?NM
NM
or control and left or right arrow.
I did that several times!
brain freeze. > what does this arrow mean? greater than? less than?

If in MS Word, sometimes hitting the "Undo" arrow (sm)
above can make something you didn't want go away. I've also discovered that if you are working online, like in email for example, hitting "Control" and the "Z" key at the same time works just like "undo". It's especially helpful for when you've just typed a long email, are just about to sign off, and you hit the wrong key and it DISAPPEARS! If you immediately STOP, don't touch anything else, and then hit "Control-Z", if you're online it SHOULD come back! :)
I don't use the mouse. I use Cntl+end key to highlight a sentence.Shift and the arrow key will do
x
Shift right arrow - highlight the entire sentence and delete! Not sure there is a
ctrl key to do entire sentence, but I will look and get back to you.

Well - no. Shift arrow down will highlight my entire line and then delete.
Don't know what you are talking about - I never use F8 in Word.

Try ctrl+shift+left arrow to highlight the last word
then Alt + J to open AutoCorrect, type your Replace word, and tab to OK and hit the Enter key.

Make sure you don't have any extra spaces when you highlight.

Hold down Ctrl and Shift and use right arrow to highlight one word at a time. sm
You can highlight noncontiguous words by holding down on Ctrl and selecting different words.
Just hit Alt+Shift+left arrow on line 1 and it will go to the left margin. Otherwise,
you need to use a numbered list style to do it every time. Each version is different, but you may already have a numbered list style in yours that stays at the left margin. Just assign a keyboard shortcut to that style.
Well I did that and I can get it to go forward now but I can back up the dictation only go forward.

On my Dell, it's a green outlet 2/3 down the back side of the case. sm
I have that problem when I go from the computer to the phone and have to switch my headphones from stereo to mono (there's a switch and a volume dial on the cord of my headphones).  When I'm connected to the computer I can use the stereo with no problems.  It is possible that your headphones are only mono.  I got my headphones at Radio Shack, nice long cord and volume in the cord.  Hope you can figure this out.  I'd rather transcribe from my computer than from the phone as the quality is MUCH better.
I would, but I cannot get a Toolbar
of any kind to come up. Just the horizontal and vertical rulers.
Thanks for the suggestion, tho!!
toolbar
In the right hand corner, there is an icon called *tools*. Click on that and a drop down box will open with *toolbars* in it. I have not tried it myself, but there should be something in there to get what you are looking for. Also the *customize* button. Good luck. hope it works for you!.
toolbar
just figured it out! yeah!!
Toolbar
Go into view, toolbar and see which ones are highlighted and then you can hit which ones you want.  I use standard and formatting for mine.  that does give two lines but it is what I use.    Hope that this helps.
Once I get top toolbar set up how I want it,
x
Have you tried using the toolbar instead
xx
Just look at your toolbar..it has left, right, and
nm
Do you have a customized toolbar?

Is this a situation where you can set one up? If so, go to View, Toolbars, then to the Toolbars tab and click "new." Name it whatever you want (I just use my first name) and then click the Commands tab and drag the icons you choose over to your new toolbar.

The reason I am saying all this is that I have a Bullets and Numbering icon on my toolbar, so whenever the numbering starts messing up, I can highlight the area where I want the numbering to be, click on the Bullets and Numbering icon, and fix it - quick and easy.

Plus I can put only the icons I use most on the toolbar and not have all those I don't want. Speeds things up a lot when I don't have to sort through a bunch of icons to find what I want.

Toolbar in what program?
xx
You set up that on your toolbar using Word? (m)
Any chance you could tell me how? I'm not that savvy, lol. I appreciate the help!
Floating Toolbar
I had to try around with a few different things but I think I went to Microsoft Office Word Help and followed the directions for "create a custom toolbar"
On the toolbar there is this rectangle with
the percentage mark. Make sure that it is set on 100%. This determines the size of the text.
Tell me if it worked, thanks.
I used to have a free little toolbar that I downloaded and

there was also a website where you could sort the feedback of ebay users.  I deleted it because I'm just not into ebay as much as I used to be.  However, if you check Google or Download.com, you ought to be able to find something.  GutCheck is one of them, but I've never used it.

I typed the following into Google to find GutCheck.

ebay sort negative feedback

And "ebay feedback" without quotes at download.com to find BayCheck.

HELP. My husband screwed up my toolbar
how do i get it back down where it used to be?  The start menu, etc.
Look at View/Toolbar -- and over to the side of that is a SM
dropdown menu that should have some things checked on it. If you can't see "view" then do alt+v and see if that works.
I have a technical question. On my toolbar when
I click on any of the categories (File, Edit, View, Tools or Help), instead of getting my dropdown menu I get a trasparent square.  If I drage my mouse down, then the titles appear but you can see the screen under them.  The same thing happens on Outlook Express.  (I have Windows XP).  The only one that shows the regular dropdown menus is Favorites.  This just started today.  Has anyone had a similar thing happen or know what to do about it?  Thanks.
Pull Down "View" on Toolbar.
Then hit Zoom.
on toolbar, click view
then uncheck ruler
on the toolbar, next to the Bold button
There should be a little box with a number in it and a little black arrow. If you click on the arrow, it will bring up a bunch of font sizes. I would pick 12 as it is a standard size for printing. Hope that helps.
Lock toolbar is not an option I am given? Any
x
Line count is not on my toolbar.
I stand corrected. I had no idea it was on the Tools menu; I have always used a separate line counting program OR the Properties under the File menu. Also, my Tools menu is condensed most of the time and I had not noticed Word Count on there before. "Look before you leap."
MS word toolbar question - sm

Somehow I lost the print and print preview options on my toolbar and I do not know how to get them back.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Toolbar in Work Queue
Does anyone know what the expanded toolbar is in the work queue?  It has about 7 icons at the top instead of 3?
Lost toolbar on Internet Explorer
Can anyone tell me how to restore the tool bar with the buttons such as home page, refresh, go back arrow, forward arrow?  I know that there are other buttons on there but those are the few that I use most often and can remember.  My guess is that something has been inadvertantly turned "off" but I don't know where to look for it.

Still looking forward
I have been reading this board for a short time now and have been pretty grateful for a lot of the information and advice.

What I am not grateful for? The sense that MT completely sucks and is the worst career choice anyone could make. I understand that people like to vent but there are some posts that just come across, to us who are learning and just getting into the field as very, as very bitter and very discouraging.

I am only posting this because I have a voice, too. I am looking forward to working from home, having people ask me how to do "do what you do at home", making some extra money (though I DO know that I won't be getting rich in this field), and learning all there is to learn about our language and the language of medical professionals.

Every job, every career, every field has its share things to hate. I'm sure MT won't be any different. But please, remember when you post that there are some of us who really want to enjoy and succeed in MT. Advising us to turn the other way and run just doesn't seem a fair thing to do.

I'm just sayin...
You could also forward your sm
calls to your cell phone while you're working.
Definitely looking forward to seeing it. sm
It's unfortunate that politics and business so strongly influence the health care we and other patients get, but they are, and his films provide additional information that is for the most part all too appallingly accurate on review. Those most surprised and disbelieving would benefit most by researching its veracity for themselves and not relying on the word of others. Besides, the films are always fun to watch if maddening.
forward it
There is a place somewhere on Homeland Security or FBI site where you can forward them suspcious emails and they check it out. Let the sender who told you to get screwed know that you are planning on doing this even if you don't forward them. I too am sick of the scammers and Viagra ads. Viagra doesn't qualify, but those money things do! I have even gotten "bank statement" things and I block them out or forward them over. After that, I don't hear from them again. Anybody else been getting junk faxes lately?
I am looking forward sm
to being back.  I have done a little here and there when needed but nothing where I could say I am "working."  I had some health problems of my own that are now resolved so it has been a long period.  Truthfully, I wish everyone could AFFORD to take a break.  I found out I also had burn out and the break (regardless of the reason) really has helped as far as MT goes.  I am looking forward to getting back to it.  Thanks.
Get a Google Toolbar, description and link enclosed
I have a Google search toolbar at the top of my browser.  It's a small line like the address bar but it says Google beside it and I just type in my searches there instead of going to Google first, etc.  I've found it very easy to use.  Of course, as with anything there are extra parts to the program, I just added the basic tool bar and went to options and only kept the parts of it that I wanted on my toolbar.  It makes searching a whole lot easier, all I need to do is bring up the internet and my search is at the top.
Mentioned below, zoom in over 100% on your toolbar won't change print nm

We homeschool and we are all looking forward
to getting back to a structured learning time.  Homeschooling is not something we do, it is a lifestyle, and we are constantly learning, but we have an "official" 180 days as required by our state.
