Wireless slows me down

Those wireless keyboards are a pain to me. Never had good luck with them. Was always putting in new batteries and even then they were stubborn and didn't work.  My wireless keyboard in the keyboard graveyard now.

I like non-ego keyboards that plug in and have a fast, silent touch and use a rubber wrist rest. No egos for me. Feel retarded with my hands all spread eagle using them. Each to his own. I know they are popular. Supposed to be good for wrists.

I buy the real cheapo keyboards at Walmart, Logitech for $10 or so and they are the best for me anyway. The more they cost, the worse they work in my experience.

I know if my nails are too long it slows me
.
I agree that McAfee slows down the system, but
only when the scanning is in process, especially when starting. But I doubt that McAfee and Norton are less safe than a free download.
This has no logic.
I subscribe McAfee already for years and I NEVER got a virus.
Sounds like my old job, pain in the butt, all that crap slows you
Clinic is generally easier, but you can get longer reports with acute care generally. Kind of a toss-up I think. I get slowed down most when I have to look up the doctor's name and addresses when I do letters. Doing a bunch of clinic notes/evaluations tonight where they supply a patient list and all the doctors names and addresses.....saves me tons of time....but that is a rarity. Oh well, good luck.
It slows down every August and January on both ER accounts that I have. This time sm
of year is the worst. I forget about it every year until it happens again. It usually picks up again at the end of August and then is really busy until the end of the year. It slows down a bit (not much) in the beginning of January and then is really, really busy until mid to late July into August.

I have been doing this for 13 years and the only year ever that it did not happen to me was last summer. Not sure why, but both hospitals stayed busy the entire 2006.

HMMMM
Reread all the posts. Do you see that I am the only one doing that? Do you really not see the other ones doing that either? Probably not, because you aren't reading their posts as closely as you are mine.
hmmmm
Wouldn't letting anyone other than your employer know you handled this report by a violation of HIPAA? Especially since it is on the newswires with names and other details?
hmmmm...
i tried one adapter (my laptop does not have a ps2 port) and it didn't work. maybe i need to try another. Thanks for answering.

Just dictated for an ER report:  The patient is resting comfortably on the stretcher, moaning in pain.

I always moan in pain when I'm comfy, don't  you?

Soooo weird. Hmmmm
This post refers to the posts below from the ICs from TRX (I am one) - I find it interesting that a person would come on here and call someone out of there name (the owner) and then walk away without explaining how he/she came to their conclusion.  Seems a person would want to make their case or maybe just persons like myself and the other IC who stood up to ask why.  I'm so confused.  I guess we're all just different that way.    Some people are yellow and some aren't.  That's right, I said it.
my response was taken off -- hmmmm interesting
but it doesn't surprise me. I have to choose my words even carefully next time.
Hmmmm...Birds of a Feather Flock Together.

How horrible to be your neighbor, no matter what color. I feel sorry for them.

Really? Hmmmm...you wouldn't know the stock market if it bit you.
Run a stock analysis on MQ under any search engine.  Yahoo stock analysts are the ones I use personally.  There are advisories and analyses of MQ and Philips in the data base EVERY DAY.  There have been "hold" advisories, "sell" advisories, and "buy" advisories any given day.  Sorry to disappoint your disillusioned mind. Obviously NASDAQ and regular trade is better, but they are STILL in the ball game, sorry to disappoint you. And you SHOULD be happy at that if you care about the 1000s of MQ employees who have stocks, etc.  But, gee, sounds like you're just a disgruntled werker!
Glad it's not just my kids.. They have radar for ANYTHING yummy. Hmmmm,

If you use a standard keyboard you can buy an old IBM model M keyboard on ebay or clickykeyboards.co

That key printing never wear down because the letters are part of the key itself.  They just don't make them that way anymore because it is too expensive to make.  Some of the mechanical keyboards like Cherry have what they double shot key imprinting and the letters are part of the key itself and don't wear off. That IBM keyboard is very noisy from the type of keyswitch it has so you may not like that.  Logitech and Belkin make some membrane switch keyboards that are supposed to have longer lasting key imprints.  I have a logitech that has the longer lasting key imprints and it is pretty good.  You have to look on the specs to find out if has the longer lasting key printing.

I have experimented so much with keyboards and have done a lot of research.  Way too much info.

I use a laptop with a full-size keyboard (no separate keyboard)
I'm using a lap desk but previously was using a pillow with a book on it under the laptop. No additional keyboard though, I bought one with a full-sized board with regular size keys (an HP) which I LOVE and it took no time at all to get used to it. I also love that when the weather improves, I can take my computer outside and get some fresh air! What a great job... :)
Keyboard and mouse. Is there such a thing as a keyboard that has a mouse on the actual keyboard?
nm

I seriously considered it myself because

my former coworker kept telling me how great it was.  She planned on getting rich off of it and retiring by the time she was 35.  She was too busy promoting her "home business" on company time and the company computer to even get her work done at her regular job.  She's still not rich or retired.

Also, there are a lot of negatives out there regarding Ameriplan.  There is one dentist in my entire state that accepts Ameripan cards.  No other medical providers will even consider it.  One good post by someone trying to sell Ameriplan doesn't negate lawsuits, BBB complaints, and thousands of people who weren't given refunds when they requested.  I would never stand behind a company that wasn't ethical and honest with people.

Believe me, I understand what it's like to work hard and still live paycheck to paycheck.  However, "Posting advertisements or solicitations of business" and "spamming" are against MTstars terms of service, which you agree to when using this site.  Selling the discount cards (and/or recruiting people) is what you were trying to do, so be honest here.

Have you considered......
Where I work, there are a people who actually work part time, at 30 to 35 hours per week so that they do not have to meet the high line count for full time. If benefits is not an issue for you and you are paid by the line maybe you should consider 30-35 hours a week instead of 40. I am sure you would not loose much money and making rate would not be a problem because you would have that big gap i.e part time rate is 5,100 and full time rate is 10,200 that would mean your only required to make 5,100 a pay period even if you are 30 to 35 hours a week......then you would'nt have to work so hard and you could have more time with you son. From what I have heard from other MTs...it was actually a relief for them to have to go part-time because they did not have all the pressure anymore.....it is something to think about. However, if insurance/benefits is an issue than I could see how this might be difficult.

You might also want to try getting on earlier, ie. 4 am to 7am and then once your son is off to school get back on and complete your shift. I wish you luck. I am sure something will work out.
Have you considered
asking your company if you could copy someone's? You wouldn't happen to be working on ExText and using the ESP would you?
It's not anything I considered, but I just...

Googled scoping and came up with quite a few hits that should be able to give you some info.

re: anybody ever considered
A lady I know is married to an HVAC man, and she got a general contractor's license. She makes money off it, but subcontracts all the work out on building jobs. Her husband does the HVAC part.
Anybody ever considered

becoming a plumber or some other type of construction?  My husband and I are looking at things we could do together.  Don't even know if a woman could do the job and I'm 54 so might be too old to cut the mustard and been doing MT for 9 years so out of shape.

Is 4 cpl considered too low?

Is 4cpl, 65 character line including spaces and hard returns, very low for a new graduate?  I've been told that this is exceptionally low.  BUT, with companies offering MTs with 5+ years of experience 7-9 cpl I thought it was a fair wage.

Am I wrong?  Am I working for a MT 'sweatshop'?  The accounts are not difficult, and no ESLs.

Now after hearing some people tell me I am working for peanuts I am wondering if I need to find a different job.  I like these accounts, but I also want a fair wage.  I was told we'd renagotiate pay when I got off full QA.   Am I being taken advantage of?

I have considered that myself but have yet -sm
to find a product that I can get my hands on cheaply (i.e. wholesale) in order to re-sell at a good profit, not 1 or 2 dollars. I have 2 boxes of stuff right now that I plan to put on ebay, old kid toys basically, books, etc. Don't care much about making a bundle just want to de-clutter my house some, one man's junk is someone else's treasure and all that jazz. I have toyed with the wholesale designer clothing scene (returns/imperfects) but it requires connections and basically buying a tractor trailer worth of clothes for $5K or more, nothing to enter lightly. As with most risky ventures you have to have money in order to make money (i.e. stock market). But in regards of gettign out of MT I have just gotten my CDL for bus driving, have 10 more hours of training (paid too at $8/hr) then I can substitute drive for my county, yeah! Within a year I should have my own route (don't have to use my own gas either to get to work, nice, they have a shuttle pick you up at home), work 2-3 hours a day and get $60 a day for my trouble, a lot better than I make doing MT. Great thing is I get paid 12-months a year and make about $1K a month which is not much less than I make now and I work a lot more than 3 hours a day. I still plan to do MT but cut back some so I can reclaim my life a bit. I will still have freedom to do what I want during the day and have a well paying PT job (which they call FT and it has benefits too, health insurance and 401K). So it is an interesting alternative for me and will give me a steady income and I will have job security too unless I have a ton of accidents for some reason, but really don't expect that to happen as I am a good driver. In time may apply to the USPS for driving the smaller mail trucks (not tractor trailers, different CDL class), have to get 1 year experience before I can consider that. Just looking at my options for the future as my DH wants to retire in 8 years at 55 (who doesn't?)(I'm 7 years younger by the way) so I need a job with good health insurance IF we have to change insurance that is, something I do not want to do since we have phenomemal coverage. Doubt this helped you at all but maybe it will get you thinking of other avenues other than ebay. Good luck!
Leaving MQ
A friend of mine left MQ and went back into a hospital setting.  She went from barely making 1200 lines a day to over 2000 a day (8 hours).  She also went from statuatory with no benefits to all the perks of being in-house including insurance, vacation, 401K, paid holidays, etc.  She was also offered after training the opportunity to work from her home which she took.  She is so happy.

Hi Romey, you're not alone. I've done this for 20 years and I find I can't even look at it anymore because of some of the things that have happened in the field. Don't know what to tell you to do because I'm searching too. I should have listened to my common sense a long time ago.

Your local police department can give you information on shelters or organization that can put you and your kids in a safe place until you get on your feet. If he is abusing you, you must also consider calling the police on him so the abuse is documented. I'm sure you know of the fatalities that happen everyday due to domestic abuse. Please take action. If he is abusing your children and someone else finds out about it and reports your husband, they can arrest you as well for having knowledge of the fact that your kids are being abused and doing nothing about it.

My heart goes out to you. I have a background in counseling and had sessions with women for years who were being abused. It frustrated me to see these women twice a month for counseling because all they wanted to do was talk about how their spouse continued to abuse them but they wouldn't do anything about it. Your kids will always remember what they are going through. This type of environment often scars children emotionally as well as physically. They can grow up to have major psychological issues as a result.

Life is too short to be miserable everyday. He is not accentuating your life in any way. He is taking from you in every way possible. I beg you to give serious thought to removing yourself from this situation. I know it may feel like you are jumping without a parachute but think of it this way...how much worse could it get? Things can only get better.

Take care.

Yep, I left. It was NOT easy.  Some days i did not think I was gonna make it -- but you know what?  I left a big farmhouse and live in a small 2-bedroom apartment.  But it is near everything - the library, the school, etc. At first my daughter threw a fit......and my son cried.  But a month later...everybody is much much happier.  Now, when I walk out of my peaceful car to my peaceful door and lay on my rent-a-center peaceful couch -- I think.....God...where is the screaming?  How did I stand it that long?  No one is mad around here?  And my children are adapting perfectly.  And I walk in my room, take off my clothes, lay on my bed and grab a book and read...and it is pure joy.  Worth every tear.  You'll see.  All of us..all of us -- we want you to have the peace that you need and that your babies will thrive with.  It's tough..but you are gonna make it.

Leaving MT

Fellow MTs, I am leaving our once-esteemed position.  I am taking a position as a trainer at a large national insurance company.   More money than I've ever made, lots of paid time off plus holidays, and weekends off.   It's been 10 years since I've had a "real job" and had not had to work weekends and holidays.

They are playing for my airline tickets, my accommodations, food and car while stationed away from home.  I am one lucky duck.

I used to love doing MT, but it has been a challenge for me the past 2-3 years to stay focused.   To all of you who still love the job, I say hurray!    This is a blessing for me to make this move at this point in my life and I'm very grateful.  I intend to enjoy every moment of it.

Bye, all!

Congratulations on your new job!  There is a time and a season to everything in life, and this is your season for change.  God bless you.

You know what?  I just cannot do this anymore.  My last day was 12/31/06.  I am moving in a different direction--not sure what all yet, but I just cannot transcribe any more.  After 17 years of listening to doctors chew, and waiting--listening to silence--with my pay rate DROPPING over the years  , not increasing--I have to leave.

There's only a tiny, tiny part of me that feels sad--it's the part of me that was so overjoyed to be able to do this at home and be here when my children were little.  I really thought I would keep doing this forever. Recently, though, I just cannot do it anymore!  One day I woke up and had had enough!

I am working on some things here at home that I had going.  Some home businesses, things I make, etc.

I just wanted to say BYE.

Lynn

I wish you the best.  I know how you feel.  After more than 20 years I too will be leaving transcription. Transcription is just not what it used to be.
Leaving MT
I've already left and felt kind of blue but after reading so many posts here, I feel a relief also. No money in it anymore and I have done this for 35 years! Now I'll turn my attention to sewing, selling on E-Bay, whatever, to keep myself active. Good luck!
Has anyone used the Smartboard keyboard? Everyone tell what keyboard they have and rate it nm

Kinesis Keyboard and keyboard tray

Okay, any lefties use this keyboard? How long did it take to get used to? I use my left thumb for the space bar and I notice on a diagram of the keys that I would always be hitting the backspace key.

I'm really interested in getting a better keyboard. I destroyed my left hand and wrist the other week when I fell because I'm becoming a real klutz.

I bought the Soft Flex gloves, but they only help a little bit. My production is down because of it and it's driving me crazy. I can only type an hour without stopping and then have to rest the hand for some time.

I did buy a Microsoft 2000 keyboard but have yet to recieve it. Is this a good one?

Do you use a keyboard tray with it or just set it on the desk? Do you think a kayboard tray would be the least expensive item right now that would help with a straight keyboard?

Any info you can provide to help me in making any decision would be greatfully appreciated.

'Scuse me for being old school, but I've only ever used a straight keyboard.

Does anyone know of a keyboard that has the backspace key in the center of the keyboard? NM

Have you considered therapy?

We were considered a valuable
not just a sweatshop drone.
Have you considered asking your instructor
for help? After all, you are presumably paying for your education. Shouldn't the school be helping you when you have difficulty? Why should you expect working MTs to drop everything and help you? Maybe you just need to put more time into your studies. If you're going to be a successful MT, you're going to have to learn to figure things out for yourself.
I considered a lease once (sm)
but when I found out my payment would be only $1 different I decided to buy instead. My loan was for the same length of time as the lease, had no "fees" attached, and didn't require a down payment. Make sure you read all the fine print on a lease. They can determine who services the vehicle. They determine "wear and tear" when you turn it in, early termination fees (you never know), and on and on. Any little dent that might be on the vehicle will need to be repaired, either by your insurance or out of your pocket, or they will charge you for it at turn-in. Beward of leasing salesmen that call you after you have already leased the vehicle and try to squeeze cash out of you. I've heard of that scam more than once.

The only way to end up upside down on a loan is to pay more than it's worth to begin with. As soon as you drive a new vehicle off the lot you are upside down on the loan and will be for at least 6-12 months. You'd be better off buying a vehicle from someone else who made that mistake. Not a lease buy-back, but from a private individual who needs to get out of their loan and hasn't driven the vehicle into the ground in a year's time. With a year-old vehicle you can easily determine whether there are major problems with them too, unlike new vehicles where you just hope it's going to be okay. Check epinions.com and read reviews from owners who are already driving that vehicle. Good luck!
Are you serious? Is 1400 really considered low???
