I think you got a bad one. Return.
I say go with the online records searches - I had some "fishy" stuff I needed to check out.
Tried it on my own via the courts, court clerks, public records, etc., and it took me days and days of weeding, and found out a smidge of info.  Went online and paid $9.95 at one of the common search sites, and found out PAYDIRT! So much info, and all turned out true, that I was amazed! Best $10 I ever spent! This was on a "relative" who was trying to pull a con on an elderly relative.  The elderly relative still fell for the con, but my conscience is free, cause I warned her up front.  Everything we feared has come to pass, but at least we tried to give warnings up front. Found out aliases, financial info as in legal charges for bad checks, property titles, and a whole bunch more! For $10 and all on one form! Then called the court clerks back and verified all info, but I had to have the info first - backwards, as usual!
Might want to check out eBay if you're not into JCP or Sears stuff. Can find some good bargains

this is a loaded ? sm

IMO, MedQuist is an excellent choice! And I know I'm gonna get flamed, but I don't care! I've been with MQ for over four years now and have been EXTREMELY happy with every aspect of my job. I'm always paid on time, never run out of work, have a nice coordinator, workflow is very helpful and friendly, and tech support is good, too! I have nothing to complain about and would highly recommend you give them a try.

And NO, I am not management, though wish I were!

Wow. That truly seems like a loaded question to me.
I think it is fair business practice to determine what you pay your employees dependent on what your overhead and expenses are first of all, and secondly what your target profit values are.

I make just under 11 cpl at 2 different nationals, including my incentive bonuses. It is very good work and I am happy with that pay.

That is my experience though. I'm absolutely sure you will hear songs of a different tune from others.
Re: loaded question
I understand what you're saying, but keep in mind your initials are only related to the clerical aspect of the report, not the clinical one. No one looks at a report and connects the MT with the procedure. With that being said, I think you should do your job, which is to transcribe the reports, unless they are coming into your queue so often that it's genuinely affecting you emotionally. If that's the case, perhaps you need to change accounts, rather than cherry pick.
Re loaded question
I rarely post on forums, but will share with you a similar experience I had about 10 years ago.   A facility I worked for had a physician on staff who routinely performed third trimester abortions.  I found myself sobbing one day as I was transcribing the words "heavy crushing fetal forceps."  I went straight to my supervisor and told her I would never do his work (or similar) again.
My client loaded my templates into their EMR and are now doing it themselves
I feel for you. My clients had me turn over all my templates/macros and loaded them into their system and are doing it themselves. This was after dishing out thousands and thousands of dollars in equipment and training additional staff. I was making $7,000 a month and now it is $65 a month if I am lucky.
Might be easier to set up another tower with XP loaded and use a

I have a question that I realize could be pretty loaded.
I in no way want to spark a debate and I won't engage in one.  I just have a moral situation and I ask that only those who have had similar experiences respond.  As stated, no need for a debate.  I am adamantly opposed to abortion for any reason.  I don't condemn those who do or have had them, but I oppose abortion.  I work for a national and just recently had a few abortion procedures to transcribe.  I felt awful doing it.  I was really torn between wanting to cherry pick past those (which I feel would be perfectly acceptable to do while letting a supervisor know why), but didn't.  I just feel like a real hypocrite that my initials are now attached to an abortion procedure that I do not support.  I just wondered if anyone ever found themselves in this situation and what, if anything, did you do about it.  Now, this is about abortion only.  I'm sure many of you could jump in and say you're against gastric bypass but you still transcribe those, etc.  I respect others' views.  This happens to be strictly about this situation and in an effort to avoid ugliness by way of a debate, I respectfully request that you only respond if you have dealt with this situation specifically.  Thank you and God bless!
I bought a Vista-loaded system and I have tried to
work now for several companies but Vista is incompatible with their platforms.

I HATE IT.

I loaded my old PRD files into Instant Text
I still had PRD on my old Windows 98 computer and the Instant Text folks told me how to save my files and upload them into Instant Text when I changed over to a new computer. I was very happy about that. It corrupted a few of them but after editing them they worked fine.

Hands down, PRD was the best. Shame they didn't keep it updated as Windows changed. It was set up to work in word patterns, making it easier to remember abbreviation names. I've set up IT the same when making new additions.
Don't need a medical dictionary, but you should have the Stedman's spellchecker loaded. Can

However, I have seen results from both. It is hard to keep the weight off or maintain it once you start eating food again.

I worked for a physician who specialized in the MediFast program. The initial results were good, but the patients had a very hard time maintaining it and gained some back.
I tried it. No dice here. It looked like it loaded but the sound would cut in and out. Too frustrati
that works with this program. I mean I was told by the electronics people that the 9-pin was being obsolete so why cant we get into the right decade.
Explain how you used the jump drive, I did that but loaded it on the computer but...
somehow my jump drive got messed up. It asks me if I want to redo the drive. I don't know what happened. How do you work from the jump drive?
I have actually loaded it from the testing the company sent and have literally gone in and deleted i
the pedal just works terribly.  I will wait until the tech guy calls me today and see if he can figure it out.  If not, well then I am not sure what I can do.

DID you check with Social Security& does your son receive a check???

Go to SSA.gov and research the payee options.  You may have to use the search engine, but your answer to this particular issue should be there.

I am disabled and while my kids were minors, I had to fill out a form each year on how I, as the payee spent each and every penny of the money they received.  I don't see how his mother can justify how she spent his money for things that you normally would pay.

That said, he is getting Social Security right?  Is your son receiving a dependent check?  Under law, if a parent is disabled and has minor children, each and every one of those children also receive a check until they turn 18 or graduate from high school, which ever comes first.

The check is a percentage of your husbands, so for 800.00, your son should receive at least 350.00.  If you have not been getting this, they would pro-rate it back to when your husbands disability started and that in itself, could solve a lot of your financial problems.  You can also find this out on their website,  HTH

no - don't check out wildblue. check out hughesnet. sm
i was on wildblue. i absolutely HATED it. i paid $400 for install and equipment and bill was $51.51 a month for smallest plan. no bills, had to be direct debit from credit card or bank. wasn't a lot faster than dial up and i frequently went over my download limit so i had to upgrade to the $80/mo plan. speed was no faster on their "fastest plan". they had a 1-yr contract and only 1-yr warranty. well 20 days (kid you not) out of warranty my tria (the eye on the dish) went out and it cost me a total of $275 for replacement and tech call (had to wait a week and a half before tech could come and then he no showed and rescheduled for the next day stating he didn't have the equipment he needed to fix me and the repair order had been in for over a week by that time. no call to say he wasn't coming either, just no showed). they TRIED to sell me the entire package all over again to get me locked into another 1-yr contract and i declined. it was best in their book so your warranty and equipment would be "new". i had to tell them for 5 months to change which credit card to debit from, never could get it right. had to tell them for 3 months when my phone number changed. i could not wait until the day my 1-yr contract was over. have heard really good things about hughesnet. i think it is a tad more a month, but supposedly a lot faster than wildblue and not near as many problems from what i have heard from others. wildblue was down for an entire week at one point throughout the year i was on it. always got lost signals and page cannot be found multiple, multiple times throughout the day. i used wildblue with VPN (with transtech) and could not keep a connection enough to get a decent line count as i was dropping signals too much and it did slow it way down. i finally got clinic work rather than acute care where time and speed wasn't a factor. research message boards for complaints about wildblue and hughesnet before deciding. also hughesnet i think told me a 2-yr warranty rather than only the 1-yr with wildblue.
Check the classified board here and check
E-bay.  Some companies will provide them for free or a small rental fee.
stuff
I really, really saw a shooting star or an angel or something the day before my Dad's funeral 10/15/00. It was a crystal clear day, I heard something that just lead me outside and I looked up and saw the shooting star or whatever. My Brother-in-Law saw it too because he was outside washing the cars. But it was a calming thing, like he was giving us a signal that he was doing just fine.
QA stuff
I have a hard time with ESL's but I was trying my best
I'd tell them to stuff it, but that's just me
Sick of the way the companies refuse to let the facilities or the physicians know when they're just being ridiculous and take it out on us because we're "nobody important."
Do not buy from the(right)stuff
I paid $390 for a C-phone that worked for 20 minutes. It kept shorting out, and then died. The repair shop said motherboard was fried, not repairable. The guy did not even include the power cord with it. Rip off.
I could become such a cow on that stuff!
It is addictive. Yummy.
Well, I know my stuff, been doing nothing but ER MT
for 10 years...why I don't I get paid for my knowledge, for being a good employee, i.e., never call off even if sick, never miss my shift, and still not valued.  Not sure I understand what you mean in your post about MTs not being good MTs because when you do find a GOOD MT, y'all don't value them anyway!
QA stuff
Hayseed, I don't know squat about QA, but learning something new in this field only makes you more valuable to yourself and to the company you work for. You have nothing to lose, lots to gain, and if you hate it, you can always go back to transcribing. Variety is the spice of life!

Congratulations! Let us know how you like it after you get a few days under your belt.
I do all that stuff too. But sometimes you just don't
Even more often, you don't always get the CORRECT results. Then you end up having to do research on the research. Sort of like looking into a succession of never-ending mirrors.
There's a way to get around all that stuff -
When mgmt. gets stingy about vacations, all you have to do is catch the "flu". A cold, they want you to come in and give it to everybody. The flu, they DON'T! Cooking for potlucks? The easy way: Just say NO to potlucks. Feel you MUST participate? Bring in a small bag of potato chips or carrot sticks. Office meeting? Good time to do those Kegel exercises or other isometrics. Pretend to be taking notes, & have a page of a crossword puzzle hidden underneath. Mentally think of what you need at the market and make a shopping list. Play tic-tac-toe or hangman with the person sitting next to you. If you're stuck sitting there watching someone's mouth flap for an hour and a half, try to envision money flying out of it and into your pocket, which is essentially what's happening. Not getting enough breaks? Develop "overactive bladder", and occasionally overshoot the ladies' room and instead go outside and take a lap around the building. If you have a computer-related pain or injury, a doctor's prescription can buy you mandatory breaks at regular intervals. Nothing they can do about it.
crock pot stuff, one more
This is something I made when my kids were growing up. SO EASY! A blade pot roast is what I always used. Put IN crockpot...sprinkle on a package of taco seasoning mix, NO LIQUIDS. Cook eight to 10 hours. Shred meat and serve on tortillas, put out chopped onions, chopped green chili peppers, avacado, chopped tomato, actually anything the kids like...let them make their own soft tacos. Enjoy.
Maybe some, but I do. However, I have MTs that don't and GUESS at stuff.

thank you. This MD always says goofy stuff

I noticed that Shepard Smith on Fox (not considered a liberal news outlet) was not especially impressed with the government response to the disaster. He was desperately begging for help for people stranded for days on a bridge.
I do now and then, mostly stuff about the house but have been looking
for additional $$. Know what I want to do and currently researching finding suppliers, preferably here in the U.S. I'll be happy with an extra few hundred, but if it takes off...... I'll take that too!
The funniest stuff????? Please!

Apparently a schizophrenic patient (frankie boy and my goodness obviously same person talking to self) has escaped the mental institution and wound up on this board!  Can the administrator please delete this nonsense and ban Frankie Boy - my goodness!

This seriously is the funniest stuff
I have ever heard.
weird stuff
My daughters had pityriasis rosea on their legs. That was my first though when I read this post. In fact, Dorland's says it is "most often seen on the trunks, arms, or thighs."
Sometimes stuff just happens and you need to move on
I sure wish life was a simple as you get married and stay together forever..Life is not that simple and even though we think that we will stay married, things happen sometimes and we find ourselves in a situation we never thought we would be in..i.e., falling in love with someone else or getting divorced cause our spouse has fallen out of love or in love with someone else.  I will not past judgment on anyone who separates and/or goes through a divorce..Been there, never thought I would be..Thought our love was gonna last forever, thought he would never cheat on me..Stuff happens in life. Having gone through it, I realize people grow and sometimes the other person does not grow in the same direction.  Why stay with someone you are miserable with..Life is too short..Nothing worse than living with someone you no longer love or there is so much pain between you that it is even painful just to be in each others company..
Shorthand stuff
I appreciate the hints on SH too; 100 years ago, I took actual Gregg shorthand. When I got PRD+ I never typed numbers and used PRD's suggestions.
j - shun sound (tion) hosj = hospitalilzation
s = pleural (fts = feet) singular = ft
g = ing (ugg = undergoing)
d= past tense = (presd = presented)
ly = ally or ly ending (bll = bilaterally).
os = ostomy
ec = ectomy
ot - otomy
isis = used for words ending is iasis or isis
Most of the time, I just listen to a word and pick out the highlights. duodenum = ddm duodenal ddl. Klepingers becomes kleps. Vicryl is vcl. #1 Vicryl is 1v,etc.
To expand an abbrev. I just double the end letter of the abbreviation and don't use a - as sugesstedin PRD+

I've always used the first 3 or 4 letters and added whatever the ending was. I was always taught that # required to much fumbling around as well as other characters, so I avoid them

These are only a few of my shortcuts and they have worked very well for me for 30 years.
Call him. Tell him come on, help you get your stuff.
That is just the song I needed right now! You're feeling me, Listenup! Thanks.
