I'm not happy with my current position, but I've interviewed

tested and me offered positions with at least 12 other companies and none of them have anything better to offer, all less money, all set schedules, etc.  Read the job boards and see what is out there and if you want to test the waters take on a PT IC position - of you can test and interview with multiple companies without making a committment.

What I do is take off the current position and put a note there...sm
that says "current position information will be revealed at interview." That way if they call and want to know, we can discuss it. If not mentioned or get no call, then my information is lying around in somebody's messy and disorganized desk open to others' eyes.
So you've interviewed MOST of them?....LOL

Saw a program on CNN or one of those stations, and it was a call center in India filled with hundreds of well-dressed professional-looking MTs and they said:  *average age 27 with a business degree* compared to "average age 49 in the US with no degree"....

Seeing hundreds, and it was a 2005/2006 show, - I believe that show.  You may have interviewed a few dozen Indian MTs IF YOU are in the US but not MOST Indian MTs.  *S*

Have a nice day!

I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne

used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and  Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).

Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best.  In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander.  Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love.  My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything.  You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros.  I love it.  I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

Happy for you, but give us the ins and outs of your current job. SM
Do you have your own accounts?  How many hours a day do you work?  How many days of the week do you work?
I've interviewed Indian MT's. Most have two master's. Most Indians have two master's
it is part of their government's specific plan of action for positioning India to be at the forefront of the global economy.
I can't say that I've ever been in that position or that
I even know what you're talking about.  All I know is that money issues can tear a family apart.  I'm sorry you're feeling down.  {{{{hugs}}}}
I too have been offered every position I've
tested for and I'm not a CMT.   I think the years of experience and doing well on tests is what gets you the job.
Go for it.. almost every position in an office I've ever had
I started at part-time, and alot of time just wanted to stay part-time and actually had to fight to work only part-time hours. If you are a good employee they should realize that and almost certainly will try to get you to be a full-time employee in the future. Just make sure that you don't end up working "just short of full-time hours" and getting no benefits. If you're there 32 hours..(PT) you might as well be there 36-40 and get full-time benefits.
I've been there nearly 2 years and still happy. sm

What did you want to know?  Pay is okay, accounts are good, people are good.

I've been to Disney World and not everyone is happy.
minimum wage without benefits.  They have layoffs all the time.  It's not a happy place to work.
Not me - I'm as happy as I've ever been. Plenty of work, more than I can do - I am so lucky. n

It's great you've got a good system; I'm happy for you! nm
nm
have you interviewed them?
I always have a ton of questions, and talk with the recruiter at great length about what I am looking for and what they are offering. That might help hone it down.
I interviewed with them and turned them down

but can't remember all the details.  I think they offered 10 cpl for IC and 11 cpl for lines over 12,000 per pay period.   You have to "punch the clock" , which I just won't do.  Sorry I don't remember other details.

I interviewed for a job today

Most of it went well.  They pay the same cpl as most the other companies I have looked into.  They pay for headers if you have to type them in yourself, which is better than what I got elsewhere.  The scary part is that all they pay for is the training phone call and then straight production, they really don't give you time to lean the account to build up speed and make money.  I asked the interviewer if the account they were putting me on was busy all the time.   She said yes.  I asked her if it was saturated with ESLs.  She said, "it is out of Texas, What do you think?"

Those were the only 2 red flags I saw was the straight production after the 2-hour phone call and I might be stuck on an account that is saturated with ESLs. I did like the fact though that I will be using eScription instead of ExText.  I never used eScription before, I have always used ExText so I am excited about learning something new.   I do need health insurance and theirs was pretty inexpensive.  I am not sure what to think.  Am I going to be in over my head?

I applied to 2 more places and have not heard from any of them yet.  I did hear from one Friday and they said I needed to fill out another application.  I filled one out online and they e-mailed me to fill out another one.
I don't know anything about transolutions, interviewed, tested, and
offered position with Cymed.  The pay is average, lots of ESL, offered 0.5 cpl more if I do more than 1800 lines a day, which I do occasionally, but not often enough that I would have a bunch of extra $$ each pay period.   The person I interviewed with was an HR person and hadn't the first clue about transcription, so her answers weren't very good to questions.  I did specifically ask if the offshore and she reluctantly said they do.  I know they offshore to the Phillipines and probably India, and they are support of the move to offshore to Trinidad.   I was offered 8 cpl and have 20 years' acute care experience.  I was told there were lots or opportunities to earn big $$ in bonus money, but I'm not looking to be chained to my chair another 4 hours a day.   My main decision for declining the position was the offshoring.
Unless he is being interviewed by another teen (probably not), shorts are NOT appropriate. What is

I interviewed for an in-house pathology MT - sm
position a few years ago. What they did was a transcription typing test, so I had actual dictation and of course they timed me. I did okay there I think without any errors I was aware of but speed wise I tend to type a lot slower when being tested as I just freak at typing tests. Then they interviewed me, and I feel so dumbb at interviews, 2 people at once, totally dumbb questions for the most part with nothing to do with transcription. I thought I did well but did not get called back. They gave me a full tour of the facilities, etc, the MT office, the lab, etc. Let me "interview" the MTs there too. It was quite interesting.
well, I interviewed for an in-house job Monday
She said by today, Friday, she would let me know if I got the job.  She told me I was high on the list of being hired, but she was still interviewing.  It is already nearly noon and I have not heard a word.  I looked at the job board and the ad for an MT is gone.  Is that bad news for me?
Lord forgive me for saying this, but at the start of this, they interviewed her roommates on CNN, I
think. Maybe Fox. At any rate, the girls were rather "smug" about it all, said that Natalee was quite taken with this Dutch kid and had basically "dumped" her friends the last 2 days to hang all over this guy.  When they were asked what was "so special" about him, they said that Natalee was quite flattered that he was paying attention to her, as he was considered the "#1 Catch On the Island"...So, that certainly explains why her friends weren't "covering her back". She had ditched them more or less to be with Romeo.  Happened to me a lot in the "old bar hopping days" with my girlfriends.  One would hook up with some total stranger, and just dump the rest of us "singles" for the night.  Luckily, they all lived, though we did have a scary encounter now and again, this being in Southern Florida.
Interviewed last week, 1200 lpd, low pay, lots of restrictions. I said no. nm

I read the story and they interviewed people who work in the
Luis Vuitton store. They said they had 3-4 of the debit cards used just that day. Other high end stores were reporting they were being used in there as well. One guy on tv was interviewed and said he was unemployed yet he was going to buy a car. That means he'll probably have no insurance, probably no license. Every single taxpayer is paying for these unemployed, young "disabled" people with a bunch of kids who have chronic back pain or <insert whatever disorder here> to go shopping and not for needed things like food and diapers.
I interviewed to work in a pharmacy ... haven't heard yet, but -- sm
the company will send their pharmacy clerks to classes and pay for pharmacy tech certification, even though it is not required in New York state. Waiting to hear back from them this week.
Don't cap happy holiday season. Cap the others and Happy Holidays alone. nm

Current says:
q.i.d. is fine
q.8 h. is preferred, for clarity and ease of reading the number.

Don't eliminate the periods, don't use dangerous abbreviations, and don't use illegal abbreviations such as q.a.m. because they are Latin and English mixed.

Does that help?
Yes put current job. If it is your first
job you will need to show the experience to get another job.  You don't have the give another company any particulars about why you are looking for another position/more work.  Most just want to know when can you start and the hours you can work.
Nothing will ever be more current than SM
the Monthly Prescribing Reference.  Google it and the link comes up.  It's updated as soon as a drug is FDA approved.
My current favorite....
revises every sentence at least 3 times without fail. My first runner up dictates on a cell phone, drops every other call, and spells out every other word in case I don't know how to spell anything with more than 6 letters.
any other current nyers on here - I went to the

state board out of curiousity and there are very few.  Does New York have a shortage of transcriptionists???

Just curious - if there are NY'ers - where in NY do you live?

What is your current screensaver?
Mine's a beautiful aquarium (XP Plus!) except I only have three fish - you have to pay for more and I just don't wanna.
are you current with your dues?
'Nuff said.
Not really. Why don't you ask for a raise at your current
employer if you're happy there? How long have you been there?
Current Breitner MTs.

Are there are any CURRENT Breitner MTs out there?  Would like to talk. Please reply.  Thanks.

Poll: Age/Sex of current MTs

My theory is that the majority of MTs working today are in their 40s or 50s and are female.

Am I correct? We shall see....

RE: Poll: Age/Sex of current MTs
Divorced, age 52, male, long-time Transcriptionist (>15 years)
Not with current gas prices ...
I wouldn't. And you are talking about a total of 4 hours of driving per day, 20 hours per week, that you don't get paid for. You don't say where you live, but do you get snow, ice, etc. in the winter? That would be a nightmare.

It's good money, but personally I don't think it's worth it.
I have current QA contractors.
It would be cheaper still yet to give them a good raise and let the offshore MTs do the work, or so it looks on paper.

Just weighs heavy on the mind.

Current Listings
Does anyone use these boards anymore?  The most current post I see is 3/22/07.
More yrs in than you & I get 8.5 w/current employer. Have gotten 9 cpl in
,
Probably so. And my current one. And past one, too.
They might as well - they don't seem to have anything more productive with the time they spend in their plush offices behind closed doors. Unless maybe it's napping.
With our current administration, just about anywhere
Except the middle east, of course. We shoulda' nuked it all off the map on 9/12/01.
Not me. I was actually intimidated by my current

company.  They haven't laid down a lot of the rules in writing, or even verbally, but several other MTs have told me how it is.   They are very strict and I got fussed out because I didn't respond to an IM immediately.  I'm still on probation for another 2 weeks and I'm curious if I'm doing what they except of me (my QA scores are great so I know I'm doing quality work) and they have nothing to say to me, or they are waiting until probation is over and then will lay everything on the line.

I think maybe most companies seem strict at first because they want you to understand you can't have 24 hour TAT.  Some companies allow a long TAT, most don't.  I know a lot of MTs who work for spending money and aren't interested in FT work, yet they take FT positions and then don't work a required schedule.

I also think that if you produce a minimun line requirement, produce a good product, aren't constantly taking time off, etc. that the company will cut you some slack.   Good reliable MTs are scarce these days.

Any current info on SS?

I read a lot of bad about SoftScript on here, but all of it was 2 or 3 years old. I'm wondering if anybody has any current information about the company they'd be willing to share. I've been talking to them about a job doing editing work and am curious to know if their reputation has improved at all. Thanks.

current pay scale
I am an IC with 30 years experience. I am currently making 12 cents a 65 character line with no benefits, no time off, no taxes taken out, which is nothing compared to what I used to make in the hospital with all benefits.

None of us make enough, nor are we appreciated for our speed, knowledge and hard work.

Good luck! I hope you get your raise. You deserve it.

Mine is a black background with floating bananas...yes really, floating bananas. heehee
not at my current line rate nm

Axolotl? Any current employees?
Of course, I see mixed reviews on them.  Just looking for a good company for full-time bennies.
Q&A, editing - what is current pay rate for this?
nm

Does your current company also have employees?
If so, no matter what, those people will get work first because of the benefits they receive as their total package. They want those people working first and foremost.

I have also been times without work, though not for weeks on end or anything. I used that time to clean, organize, run errands, that kind of thing. Sorry I cannot offer you anything else. It will hopefully pick up soon for you! :-)
My current transcriber I bought from
this site. It appeared brand new, and I paid about half of what a new one costs at an office supply store. I'm sure they are available on e-bay as well. Mine is a Panasonic minicassette, which is my brand of choice (more control over the dictation than some of the others I've tried), although I've seen it posted more than once on this site that Lanier is the best, but way more expensive.
For those who started a new job before leaving current job - sm
Any pointers on how you did this?  I'm sure the answer is plain as day, but I can't figure it out...do you call in sick on the first day of the new account training and see how it goes?  And if you're not sure after that, and keep working at the new account until you are sure, how do you handle both jobs?  I don't mean to be dense, but this has always been a puzzle to me how you do it.    Any tips?  TIA
