I've been to Disney World and not everyone is happy.

minimum wage without benefits.  They have layoffs all the time.  It's not a happy place to work.

I could not find the thread on Disney World information.
Does anyone know of any great websites to get discounted Disney World tickets and Universal Studio Florida. We are going in a few months and I wanted to buy them ahead of time. Thanks for any information.
I've been there nearly 2 years and still happy. sm

What did you want to know?  Pay is okay, accounts are good, people are good.

I'm not happy with my current position, but I've interviewed
tested and me offered positions with at least 12 other companies and none of them have anything better to offer, all less money, all set schedules, etc.  Read the job boards and see what is out there and if you want to test the waters take on a PT IC position - of you can test and interview with multiple companies without making a committment.
Not me - I'm as happy as I've ever been. Plenty of work, more than I can do - I am so lucky. n

It's great you've got a good system; I'm happy for you! nm

Disney
We did it a couple of years ago. It was about $1000 person, including room, food, tickets, extra $, and cheap airfare from Baltimore. We did stay in Disney, but there was a deal going on $59 night for the moderates.
Florida Disney

Would anyone who has gone to Disney in Florida recently give me an idea of how much money it takes?  My grandkids want this as a goal for saving money and I want to be as realistic as I can with them about the cost and what they need.  Thanks.

Not sure about Universal, but I think you pay the same for Disney whether you pay at the gate or in

Just got back from Disney on Sunday
at the Polynesian resort. We stayed there last year. Stayed at Grand Floridian this year (courtesy of in-laws). We had the Disney Dining plan, 1 counter service, 1 table service, and 1 snack per person per day. We found it worked out to be a good deal for us.
I would buy before you go, on-line, Disney Store - sm
The ticket lines were long at Disney, as for buying at a resort, I don't know, we have always bought in advance, granted not on this trip (comped by Make a Wish) Call a resort and ask. As for International Drive, if it is the road I think it is (Hwy 192) (we just got back ourselves) be prepared for tons of traffic on that road, ripped up for construction, and traffic lights every 1/4 mile it seemed too. Going to Disney was not a problem, it was driving back that took a bit extra time. Universal was pretty wild though, first time there for us. You will have a blast!
Travel to Florida/Disney - experiences?

We are planning a trip to Florida for the Daytona 500 in February - we are having problems lining up a hotel in the Orlando area that includes suites with kitchenettes and also has shuttle service to the major parks in the area. We want something in the mid range, maybe 3 star or 4 star, and will only have 2 tweenagers traveling with us - the rest will be adults. Can anyone recommend a place to stay with some atmosphere, pool area, restaurant, etc.?

We've been there before when our kids were young and stayed in very basic motels which was fine. We hardly spent any time at the motel anyway. This time, with some going to the NASCAR race, there will be down time for others, so a nice pool/outdoor area would be a plus.

The disney tickets cover 4 parks so you are not set in where you go- sm
They cover Disney, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and MGM-Studios. With a park hopper pass you can bounce between all 4 Disney parks in 1 day and it only counts as 1 day/ticket. Without the hopper option you can only go to 1 park that day, of course these are a little cheaper. Check out the Disney web site, it will explain all the ticket options so you know what to ask for when you do get your tickets. Universal is separate, is 2 parks in one basically, one side is more kid oriented than the other. Sea World is separate too, they have a few rides there now too.
We went to Disney in November. Definitely purchase your airline tickets on-line (sm)

I priced them through Travelocity and on the airline's web pages and I got a better price direct from the airlines.  On NWA you can preregister on-line 24 hours before your flight leaves, so you just walk into the airport, drop your bags and head for the plane.  For the parks, we booked everything through AAA.  The price was about $100 less than booking direct with Disney on-line.  There are very few places to get cheap Disney tickets, don't waste a lot of time trying.  If you're staying on the Disney grounds, let me know and I've got TONS of tips for you.  It is a GREAT place to vacation.

Last year we went to Disney and I work on a laptop so I brought it and didn't
take any time off so I could work. After much probing, calling, and trying to set up my internet (I made sure the hotel had wireless or I wouldn't book it), I finally got on line, but it was the night before we had to leave anyway.
I absolutely love my Dell laptop because of the flexibility and I can work on the dining table, office, kids room, etc. I can't imagine ever going back to a desktop PC.
But, you never know when you travel if 100% you will be able to get online.
Disney thread still on this page down under the ugly names post. nm

I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne

used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and  Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).

Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best.  In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander.  Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love.  My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything.  You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros.  I love it.  I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

Heck, I did not say not to wish her a happy birthday! She deserves a happy birthday.
I was just saying her birthday was on Sunday!! :) Why does everyone always want to read something negative into everything on this board. I certainly did not mean anything negative by it! I was just makin' it known WHEN her birthday was!!

As you can already see, you've come to the wrong board! By using the word professional, you've
excluded about 99% of the population of "whatever" it is that hangs on these boards. Certainly not professional for sure! But you sure are doing a good thing for someone! Its the thought that counts. Sorry you met the dregs right at the start.
HELP! I've turned my screen sideways, I can't straighten it up. I know I've seen sm
this before, but I can't remember what it is.  Do you realize how hard it is to read sideways?  TIA.

I've always verified every line I've typed (I have my ways) -sm
If you're supposed to be paid a certain $/line, that's what you should be getting no matter how they do billing unless of course it's specified in YOUR contract with THEM.

BTW, I've never caught a company cheating me ever.

Is MT-WORLD, the same company as ATSI? I'm confused...dk
How in the WORLD is this possible?
you must have absolutely wonderful account(s) with tons of canned text!

Welcome to my world...
This explains my summer exactly. My kids have never argued so much. I have three boys and two girls. The girls are the oldest and have been fighting almost daily. We got to the point where we forced them to sit together and hold hands in silence for a certain period of time because we knew they'd hate that at the age of 10 and 9. It actually did work. They don't fight as much as they did a few weeks ago, and when I threaten them with holding hands they stop.

C.C.
How in the world do you do that?
I work 2 part-time positions and feel pretty stretched most of the time. I cannot imagine doing 2 full-time positions.

Congratulations!
What in the world?
What happened to your face? I've never seen anything like it. Did someone fart on it or did you have a really bad accident? Wow, it is unbelievable to me how ugly some people in this world are. What in the heck!
WONDER WHY THE WORLD IS LIKE IT IS?

How in the world did AT&T
If I were you I would insist on talking to some higher ups at AT&T. Unlimited long distance is exactly that.
and the world is all about ego. Never, never
tell your boss something is wrong, even with one of their choice (or not so choice) picks of supervisors, because then you are telling them may have made a mistake in the person they selected, and that is also a blow to their ego.
then how in the WORLD
do you think he's going to know what the patient's problem is next time he/she comes in for followup if he DOESN'T READ THE DANG TRANSCRIPT????  Ask the receptionist maybe?  Geeshhh!
I have the best job in the world
Have worked hourly for the past decade. Love it. Now at around 30/hr with 9 weeks paid vacation a year. Would not trade it for anything. Nice getting paid when work is slow or when you have "off" days.
It is a whole new world
There are so many more words and medications to deal with but you should pick it up quick, just like any other field. A lot depends on what particular field you are working in. (Breast, heme-malignancies, thoracic, GI, Gu....) If you want I will send you some sites I used when starting and still use.
It is a new world
I agree that oncology is a new world, but it is very interesting and I just love when I have oncolgoy work. The hardest part for me was the radiation drugs, but I have a good website for those. It was about a month before I felt in the zone. :)
Best in the world???
I know that we would all like to believe that, but it gets tougher and tougher all the time. I just did a quick search, as I knew that either last night or the night before I had heard or read about our ranking among the 191 or 193 countries included in the WHO ranking. The results I came across put us 37th back in 2000, and that number fell from the 1997 ranking of 24th (I believe it was).

I don't know about you, but I do not consider 37th place the best, nor do I consider best to be a country where a woman dies on the ER floor while a janitor mops around her and both her boyfriend and another person in the ER have to call 911 -- Imagine, having to call 911 from the ER . . . pitiful.

How in the world

do you manage to do so much? Any suggestions appreciated. I am struggling to reach 1000 per day. Also, about how many hours did it take to achieve this? Thanks!

HOW IN THE WORLD?
Does a grown woman swallow two loop earrings?  Yep.  Did reports on a woman (whom I know as I live in a small community) who swallowed two loop earrings and had to have EGD to retrieve them!  I have typed plenty of swallowed foreign body reports on children but a grown educated woman?
Maybe not end of world, but....
a significant dent in paycheck if you are paid production.

Just like you, I did the typewriter/correction tape thing. I typed about 50 radiology reports/day back then, and that was considered very high. I was paid hourly, working on-site, had benefits and all that, so it didn't matter if I typed 50 or 10 reports, I got paid the same.

Most of us are now paid production. With word Expanders and spell check, my current average is 125-150 radiology reports/day depending on which one of my accounts I work the most on. As another poster said, when you are typing 90 mph you make typos. If I am paid production, I will not take the time to look up spelling via Google, a dictionary, or whatever or sit here and read over every report I type when there are programs available to do that for you. Time is money when you are on production pay. Our pay has gone down over the years, and keeping production up is the only way to compensate. Without spell check or word expanders, speed slows significantly down as you proof read and double check each report, therefore the paycheck takes a hit.

To say we are 'spoiled' I think is the wrong term. I for one am grateful! Those tools are what we need to make a survivable wage in 2008. In typewriter days, we weren't paying $3+ for gas and oil. A gallon of milk was not $4. It's all relative.

To the OP, there is no way I would take a job without Word Expanders AND a spell check unless it was hourly pay. If they do not provide you with them, see if they will allow you to install your own personal copy. You will offset the cost of that software within a month if you are paid production and you can deduct it on your tax return.

What in the world?

Come on people.  You actually believe this?

Welcome to MT world
This has been going on for as long as I have been doing this, 10 years now. What is really annoying is when you get some dictators that are consistent, and you get them down pat, they will vanish off the face of the earth. You could try ESR (speech recognition)editing, but it pays real low, and it is very very tedious work, very boring. I can say, I will quit this business all together before I get stuck doing that all day long, which might come sooner than later. Good luck!!
The MT world
depression, weight gain, isolation, eye strain, backache, joint aches it sucks
MT world of fun
Boy.. do I totally agree with you.. isolation, four walls closing in, stress, big time weight gain.. crappy hours..  neck pain, arm pain, shoulder pain..  I thought I was all alone on this one ...  helps to hear I might be in the "norm"..
Who in the world do you think would do the
point and click work? The physicians? other dictators? I am not worried about transcription because I see it as not going completely away, might have VR but even that has to be edited by people who know what they are doing, example a transcriptionist. Don’t worry about what you cannot control anyway.
I've used it. It's the worst piece of crap I've ever seen.
seriously. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy, or their Vianeta program. Awful, just awful.
Wait until you've been there six months and if you've improved
quality and quantity, I'd say go ahead and ask.  Otherwise I'd say annually...  good luck
I've seen the same every place I've done acute care, and
pointing out dangerous or repeated errors (often in normals for goodness sakes!) never got the result I expected. When I would press the issue, supervisors said if the dictators didn't complain, then the mistakes must not matter!

It didn't matter if the MT changed what had been a cardiac med in the beginning of the report to an antifungal by the end - I kid you NOT! One poor girl used facial for fascial and fascial for facial!

I've used a few expanders, and of those I've used, all must be "coded" to get things lik
One thing I do to get around this, is to create a macro and then link the ShortHand command to the macro. It works for me, but I do the same five clients every day and only have about 20 or 30 macros/Shorthand commands that work like this. This may not work well for you if you have lots of formats and hundreds of docs.
I've been doing this doc for many years, so I've learned how to function with him. sm
I can tell what's a stutter, what's another word, what's just an "uh." Years of experience will get you through a lot.
Wouldn't want to do his charts all day, of course, but a few per day aren't bad. I haven't had to send his to review in a long time, but they do take a little longer to shuffle through.
I've worn contacts for 30 years. I've had both
hard and soft.  My vision is much better with the soft ones than they were with the hard ones.   When I first started trying contacts soft ones were still new and they couldn't get me to 20/20, so I went to hard.  Hard were okay until my eyes started changing shape and then I could no longer wear hard ones.  The soft should give you better vision as they conform more to the shape of your eye.
