I have to share this. Got a call from a doctor today inquiring about my service. See message.

He apparently has been working with a service that outsources to India and he is so fed up at the bad quality of the transcription in addition to the fact that he wants to work with someone who actually speaks English! How about that!! They will all learn the hard way, but they will learn. There may be hope for American MTs yet.

do you want to share what you are talking about, or would I rather not know? (no message)

So you are providing the service we need to cut out the middle man? From doctor to us? nm

That is okay. Yes I do work for a service. The doctor uploads directly to me and he is pretty reg
Thanks for your input.
So, I had a doctor's appointment today... sm
Thursday during the day, I felt a quick, sharp pain in my left breast. Later that night when I was getting ready to get a shower, I noticed a spot on my bra about nipple level about the size of a lady bug. Naturally, I panicked a bit. At the doctor today, upon "expressing" a bit for her, she did a Hemoccult test, which turned out to be positive. She thinks it is probably just an infection, which I am glad to hear, and says it could even be remnants of the cystitis I had when I was nursing my daughter - 16 years ago !?!? Anyway, at the checkout desk, the nice lady making my appointment to get my mammies grammed said she had the same thing and called it a papilloma in a milk duct and it cleared up on its own eventually, which finally brings me to the point of my post. When I typed papilloma into WebMD to do a little research, I only came up with references to HPV. Was she confused with her terminology? Anyone have anything like this before. I have calmed down since Thursday because the doctor didn't find any lumps. Now, just looking for a little information. TIA!
Doctor D'oh of my day today. (sm)

A tiny vent!

What is up with them saying "myself" when "I" is not the subject?  Does it just sound more officious then "me?"

I just had "Follow up at _____ Medical Associates with myself, Dr. _____, within one week."  Again for the umpteenth time.

Granted, I had to learn the rules of reflexives from an older, wiser MT than myself, but some days I get a little sick of changing it.     LOL

I think you need to call your doctor. We are not MD's here. nm

Call your doctor!!
:+
Don't call. You are not a doctor SM
and you are only typing the information.  First, know your place.  Second, physical therapy for anyone can be beneficial, movement generally translates into higher quality of life, better strength/endurance for activities of daily living.
Call Nicole at customer service...
This is THE best company I have ever dealt with. I downloaded the trial and in a day or two received a very nice personable email from Nicole wanting to know how I liked the Gearplayer. Then my trial ran out before I really got to try it because we had to go out of town so they let me try it an additional 5 days. On my fifth day I had just started working and was so behind because I took my mom for a test. It was last Thursday actually. I placed my order over the phone and was going to have to wait until Monday for the software to come in. Nicole gave me a third extension so I would not lose money and the software arrived the very next day!

I do want to add that when trying the 3rd trial I had the same problem you are having and I called their tech depatment. Mike had me back on within minutes without putting me on hold even one time!

The customer care is unmatched and the product itself has the best sound quality and the settings are so easy to use. I can't recommend them enough. Good luck!
That puter with a D is OK if you don't have to call (India) service n/m

I've got my loverboy doctor to do today, too.
Plus, an unexpected check dropped off last night, and a cup of Italian dark roast coffee while sitting on the deck in the sunshine.
New nominee for most annoying doctor today s/m
This guy is walking on the treadmill while he's dictating, so not only is he so scatter brained he doesn't know what he's talking about, I get to enjoy the heavy breathing.
Considering selling my transcription service. See message
I have an established transcription service that I am considering selling. Anyone know who I would contact to pursue this? Thanks in advance.
honey, it works like this: The MTSO(service) charges the doctor X amount per line or report, and
takes part, gives you the rest. Therefore - the MSTO(or service) decides your pay.

If you are paid 8 cpl, surely you do not believe the service charges the doctor 8 cpl - do you?

I was told today that all the big computer companies offshore their technical service. Does anyone

Call the doctor and request a meeting of all three..
The doctor, wife and you and let him know this needs to happen before they leave as you are in a crunch.  It sounds like he respects you.  If you can get that arranged come right out and explain that the work is already done and needs paid for since you were given no advance warning.  Look her square in the eye and ask questions.  Ask for partial payment....keep the line open.  If it becomes obvious that she wants you gone then bring that up in his presence for verification and so he knows it was not you who jumped ship.   Just my 2 cents.........
If I call the doctor's office and ask for results of an
MRI done on me, do they have to give me the results or do I have to just wait on the doctor to call me?
If your vet won't see her TODAY call another vet
She needs to be seen right now. Is there a veterinary emergency service in your area? Get her to a doctor, and hugs to you both!
I just got a call from a doc today that...
is willing to pay more to bring his work back from India because of quality issues.

I have noticed many offices here in CA that specifically state they want US MTs doing their work.
Call a local camera store and see if they offer this service.

Many times photographers will also provide a similar service.  I personally haven't had it done, but have heard of people doing this for a memorial service or a wedding.   They can take still pictures/slides and incorporate them too.

We're not a transcription service. We offer toll free call in dictation
service at rock bottom prices. I was only offering you an alternative without having to put out a lot of money by buying handheld units.
Sorry, not sure what happened to my original message. Doctor forgot his machine -sm
yesterday and wanted to call me with his dictations (instead of doing them digitally on his handheld machine).  I do not have that capability.  I was wondering what kind of setup I could get so that in the future if he forgets his machine he can do that instead of the way we do it now.  I don't want to invest a ton of money because this is the first time this has happened in three months so it hopefully won't be used that often.  Thanks for any suggestions.
Off topic whining. Got an interesting phone call today.
DH used to have a pretty good job until the proverbial stuff hit the fan a few months ago.  With no warning whatsoever and no bad performance reviews ever, he was told his job had been phased out and he was denied his overdue promotion.  That left him unemployed and scavenging for a job.  He did find a job at maybe a third of what he used to make.  I doubled my workload and cut back the budget to try to make up some of the difference, but things still really stink financially.  The stress is about killing me with the extra hours on top of everything else I do.  Anyway, the phone call today was to let us know that he should never have been denied his promotion and his job will not be phased out now.  Unfortunately, it's too late after how his boss handled it and what was said.  He won't go back to working for that person ever again.  Sigh...  I can't blame.  I wouldn't either.  It's nice to know we were right, but it doesn't fix anything.
Don't know where my interior message went, but any call is traceable - sm
I was being harassed years ago by a "boyfriend wannabe" so I used the *57 when he made his crank calls....he eventually gave up after I started unplugging the phone at night (it would just ring and ring to him, but I, of course, would not know about it. There have to be enough *57s though to be looked into for them to take action though, at least that is what they told me (this was 15 years ago though...things have changed a bit since then). Good luck.
Left a message, still no call back.
Will call again today.
I kept getting a recorded message to call some company..
I had never heard of, sometimes twice a day. So, finally I called it and it obviously went to India.  I told him, not very politely, that I was tired of getting their recordings and they needed to remove me from whatever list I was on.  He was still sputtering and stammering when I hung up.  Grrrrr!
You can call Mr. L directly. I just did and left a message.
Go to this link and call the number directly. He is at this office and they will put you right through to him/his voice mail:

Inquiring minds want to know!
I work at home for a national in Philly and make $18.50 and I thought that was good!
Not complaining, inquiring. sm
Not complaining, but inquiring. The OM said they are new to dictation, so it may take a while for them to get used to it. No dictation in a month is not good, though, and they will be backlogged.

One time I had a doctor who didn't dictate for a month. She was trying VR, which did not work. Then she did it again for a month, and was trying another service that was cheaper. Want to check to see if they're not fishing around, but never can be sure.

I gave them handheld units with the intent on their dictating, which they dont. Can't stop them from using my equipment with another service, but want some consistency. If I don't type, I don't make money. Thank goodness he's not my only client.

Next time will make them pay for them or find a way to prorate them. In that sense, I feel I've lost money.
Inquiring mind
More than I care to admit really.  Transcribed for insurance companies for years and then switched to medical.  Did neurology for 14 years, switched to acute care for some years, and now back to neurology and a little rheumatology.  It was very hard for me to make good money on acute care, but sufficient for a while.  It is also extremely extremely extremely hard to get a job doing 1-2 specialties, which I have been lucky enough to do.  When you specialize on 1-2 accounts, straight typing with lots of templates, the income shoots up dramatically. Work is steady, management and QA are good.  Very small U.S. company who does not offshore, but they do not hire much either because no one leaves. I am not the type to do 1200 lines and then quit.  That income would never be enough no matter what the pay.  I don't expect this to last too very long with the way things are going, but I am making hay while the sun shines.
Not inquiring about a specific company. sm
Just trying to find out how many reports on average are to done during the course of a day.
Congrats, girl, and get your share of any money that you share before he wipes you out. nm

What future demand is there for higher-skilled MTs? Inquiring mind wants to know. SM
Seriously--with computers taking over the keyboarding and the electronic medical record replacing much (just HOW much?) of the currently dictated verbage, what need will healthcare providers have that we can train to fill at least the same remuneration if not better? What potential is there for remote work? I confess I'm very fond of my current commute down the hall to my office, and googling MT in England, which has had the EMR for some time now, suggests it's high time I figure out how I'm going to keep it. Any thoughtful or knowledgeable answers would be greatly appreciated.
Share, share, I've been looking for some time...sm
sending out resumes gallor, have great experience, but they sound like clones of each other in what they offer, yet what they want is it all!!!  I'm so discouraged, in the depression boat myself!  They want you to commit to FT, new equip, DSL, on and on!!!
We have decided to add this to our current service not have a new service. It will be easier to sm

keep track of and will just be a different department.

It looks like we will work out details over the next 6 months, talking with community college program directors as well as a few of the distance-learning course leaders to work on the recruiting end.

We will train current staff to mentor if they would like to do so and want to work in the office.

We are still working on production requirements, goals to set, pay, benefits and other fine details but we have 6 months to get it all in place with three months to pull it together after that with a tentative start date of 09/01/06.  We need to build the building as well, although that is already at the blueprint stage in a spot next to our current office.

We did not want to cause flames and bashing by listing the company name as there are always so many negative people on this site, but we are national with over 200 transcriptionists, located outside of Chicago (40 miles west) and have the best team of transcriptionists around!

We will have an "official" announcement after the first of the new year.

Thank you for all of your feedback and suggestions!

HELP with Shorthand. Suddenly today when I tried to start work today.sm

my ShortHand would type only the first letter of an expansion and then take all the letters away!  I checked and the Type It button is grayed out!  I have restarted the computer and looked on the Shorthand Help menu but can find nothing that applies.  Can anyone please help me ASAP?  I am lost without it!  TIA

Perhaps you are right. This one is dated today. The original article was on Yahoo today also with

But this article states it would only affect new customers right now.  So I am upset over nothing.  I went through heck with BellSouth when they charged me a surcharge of an extra 50 a month and then would write a letter saying I had to switch to a long distance service and pay by the minute because of my "excessive" use. They told me the unlimited charge was for an average of an hour a day not somebody who worked out of their home and I needed to switch a business plan at over 200 a month charge.  I switched over to cable because of that and then to read that cable was going to charging on a per use fee and not a flat monthly fee it upset me.  It is the nature of our work, VR, only paying for VBC, having headers and footers taken away, now being charged for being on line, etc.  It just seems that everything is done to keep to insure less money.

You know the difference between God and a doctor? God doesn't think he's a doctor. nm

got the "phone call" -- get this, MQ has hired a bunch of telemarketers to call all of us to

we received our "incentive packet."  They don't even have the wherewithall to contact us personally.   These are temp-agency hired telemarketers sitting around a boiler room making sure we're reading our mail.... told him it don't pertain to me because I've been demoted from FT to SE.... He said, "yes, the letter is vague, but it does pertain to FT as well as SE...." yeah right, we'll see.

My telephone service is VOIP, but it s through my cable service, along with my cable internet. .
We have had VOIP for about a year now and I love it. I really can't tell a difference in traditional service, except the price. One of the best calls of my life was to Bellsouth to cancel our service!
Venting-why do people keep putting nm and THEN writing a message?? nm means no message - sm
Please put sm if you have a message and NM if there is no message other than your subject line.  It makes it easier when reading these messages.  thanks so much and have a nice day everyone.

This field gets more disgustingly grotesque daily.
Blasted cold out today. It was 104 degrees last week, but it's 40 degrees today with rain.
However, I do like cozy days like today when I don't have to go anywhere.  I'm done working, the house is clean, there's chili on the stove for dinner already, and I'm just putzing around.  I think I'll go bake some jalapeno cheese bread to go with the chili.
