water.

I actually lost 20 lbs. after I started to work at home. No pastries, donuts, pies and candy in the break room anymore. :)  And I've had time to walk and I drink water instead of tons of coffee with cream and sugar.  Of course I still have my one cup in the morning so I won't yell at the kids. :)

Truth is, as an MT, I can't afford pastries or gourmet coffee.  The water comes out of the faucet and the exercise membership, i.e. walking the dog around the neighborhood is free!

Worked for me.  Give it a month.  You'll not only lose the 10 lbs., you'll really feel great.

Me too after 20+ years, I drink lots
and lots of coffee.
But be sure to drink lots of fluid after a treatment and...
you might get on a good calcium with magnesium supplement to aid in good healthy of your bones. My chiropractic treatments have decreased tremendously since I got on the drinkable kind! Good luck......there's enough pain in the MT world these days without pain in one's body, too!
I agree. One drink a day is too much because it just
opens the door for addiction. I'm a teetotaler living with an alcoholic, so I know that one drink is too many.
Yep, when I drink green tea instead of eating junk foods, or if I drink it while I'm exercising,
nm
POLL: Drink of choice. What is it that you drink the most daily?

There are lots of us out here who agree with
You! I post off and on - most days just don't have the energy, though, as the negative just is so draining. But there are cycles on here, and sometimes for a short time the kinder people are the majority. I miss a lot of the old time posters. This board had a wealth of great regular posters, all driven off by the chaff. They didn't leave in shame or anything, just went on to more professional pastures. Its just the dark side of human nature - this board often reminds me of Lord of the Flies in cyberspace! Know what I mean? And exactly as you said, if these women - and I do for the most part believe 100% that its the women who are negative and catty - if these women saw us face-to-face at the old water cooler, they would drop the nasty mouth immediately! I love the MQ board - this handful of malcontents who work for a company that they claim to believe is robbing them blind. And they trash their bosses and the very hand that signs their paychecks! Its so shameful. If they truly believed they were getting robbed, they'd be long gone. And its got nothing to do with waiting out lawsuits. Some people are just wired like this. Again, every water cooler has them, and these are the lowest of the low in the work place - whether in house or at home employees. We can soften their gossip if we hang out for a while. It does work. Mostly, though, we can't respond to their obvious troll posts - its so hard, but sometimes you just have to not respond. That's what feeds the trolls - don't feed the trolls!!
I agree. Lots of information here. Also, sm
abbreviations and their expansions can be handed by using a double letter at the end if you want it expanded...CVA=CVA and CVAA=cerebrovascular accident. For 2 words I usually use the first 2 letters of each word, caca=cardiac catheterization. pued=pulmonary edema. Also try to develop long phrases where you use the first letter of each word. ptor=The patient was taken to the operating room, as well as different versions of where the patient could be taken, recovery room, angiography suite etc. Let your imagination run wild. I make a game of it and still add things on an almost daily basis. Good luck.
I agree... lots of flexibility offers
This is not the only field that offers flexibility or work from home status.  Congrats on your raise!  It's nice to know someone else likes this line of work....
Gotta agree with you there. My mom was a lab tech -- lots of Christmases and sm

Thanksgivings and other holidays she had to work.  Guess that's why it does not bother me so much.  The world doesn't stop spinning just because it is a holiday.   But those same people who do not want to work holidays would be stunned if they went to the ER and no one was there ... or their house burned down because the firemen wanted to be with their families  ... etc.

On the other hand, they did make it known to their employers when hiring on, so if the employer hired them, knowing that, then it is the employer who should get the "shame on you" to placing an extra burden on those of us who ARE willing to work and do our share on holidays.

BBQ, slaw, cornbread, ham, casseroles, lots of veggies, chicken pastry, lots of desserts!! BIG fami

Lots of inexpensive decorations at Big Lots. Had a party last year.

Walking
Your probably right, I need to get out of this chair and go outside and walk.
just walking away
I am not gonna sit here and aruge with a batch of idiots about wanting to stay home and raise my kids, and maybe try to make some money while I do that.
LOTS and LOTS of video tapes and DVDs.

ROTFLMAO - NO! I would not be seen walking my cat in this - but then again
I don't buy my dog Christmas presents either. Year-round rawhides, but no Christmas, Valentines, etc. So you would never see me walking a kitty in a stroller!
Walking 30 minutes per day sm
with the dogs (all 160 pounds worth!) has my back and the leg cramps have nearly disappeared as well as the lower leg edema. I can actually sit longer now and don't need so much in the way of pain meds and no heating pad for the leg cramps. And other benefits too, lost 5 pounds, concentrate better, sleep better, fresh air.
let ur fingers do the walking
No....but I transcribed asleep once. I was working 3rd shift and dozed off. I don't know how I managed to work the foot pedal and my C-phone and go through several reports. Luckily for me I woke up and realized what I had done. I scrambled to put my last several reports on hold to check them before the doctor received them who was one hallway over. It scared me so bad I wasn't sleepy for the rest of the night. I've never let myself sit there that sleepy anymore either. I get up and walk around to get myself more alert. Funny thing was I was not transcribing what the doctor was saying. I was using some of their phrases. I guess I would hear a word and it would trigger my memory and I would type a regular phrase. Scared the bejeebers outta me that is for sure!
Keep walking. Best thing for you!

Get a pedometer, pick up the pace and the distance after a bit and keep it up.  I lost 20 lbs. walking and I felt so much better.

Don't get discouraged.  It might take a few months, but keep it up and you'll be happy you did.

And drink lots of water too.

Good luck!!!

You act like all women are walking wombs..SM

Just some daily walking would probably shake it for you, too. nm

You sound VERY down, which is why kids are walking all over you..
If mine don't do what is expected of them, they don't get what is expected of me.  All 3 of mine know that if their clothes don't find their way into the laundry room, I don't wash them.  If they don't bring their clean folded clothes up from the laundry each day, I bring it up and deliver it via "air mail" which means I carry them up and toss them 3 feet into the air and let them rain down onto the floor of their rooms.   If they don't care, neither do I.  They can let their rooms be pig pens all week long, but then they will spent hours cleaning it up on the weekend including changing sheets and vacuuming the carpet, OR, they can keep it neat, put some clean sheets on once a week, and be on their way.  You gotta be stronger and tougher than them, otherwise they're walking all over you.
like walking into a room for something but forgetting what it was !

And I always thought the idea of walking the dog was for exercise! - nm

Walking will not only improve your physical health

but probably your mental health too.  You'll get fresh air, take time to smell the roses, meet your neighbors, etc.

Unfortunately I live in the county and we are 8+ miles from anything.

Oh, but I miss walking over the train tracks! sm
It's Christmas, my youngest is 21 and God how I miss stepping over the trains! He had to have a new one every year and I stepped over them all year long! Miss the kids when they were young! You guessed right, no grandkids yet and am patiently waiting.... I do have a granddog though and he comes over to play.....LOL
Watching CNN - New Orleans. See people walking through water (sm)
A thought comes to mind.  I would be afraid to just walk around in the water.  Isn't there a chance that either sharks or gators could have come inland with the water?

I drink because of this job.

I don't drink it as much as I used to...sm
I stopped drinking one a day just because the cost was prohibitive (it adds up at $2 a can). It's almost worth it, though. I swear, within about 10 minutes of drinking one I can tell a difference--not just energy-wise, either. I feel a lot sharper and can focus better, too. I have switched to drinking coffee just because of the economic reasons, but it's really doesn't have the same effect for me.

If you end up trying it and are concerned about calories, the sugar-free has 10 calories as opposed to 110 in the regular kind. I can tell only a very slight difference in taste. A Flintstone is a Flintstone, right? :)
I drink.

I drink and then I gorge on cheese.  Actually, no.  That's wrong.  I drink WHILE gorging on cheese.  Cheap wine and cheap cheese gives me the giggles and then I watch a movie while in my retarded stupor, usually Napoleon Dynamite.  Then I pass out and "poof" it's a new day.  And then I'm really constipated so then I gorge on chocolate...chocolate Ex-Lax.

I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.

I don't drink ...sm
but if I did it would be in moderation or very little. Unfortunately, millions of folks can't seem to do anything in moderation, which creates problems for everyone.

THC oil has to be 80% pure and I doubt too many folks are going to be able to produce it in their back yard. Just as few people brew their own beer, wine, hard liquors. Just as most smokers don't grow and roll their own cigarettes.

I expect the government may eventually legalize marijuana to some degree - if for nothing more than the tremendous tax revenue it will bring in. We will still have crime associated with it, just as we have crime associated with tobacco and alcohol - bootlegging, hijacking of cargo, etc.

Poppy and coca leaves are also natural. Should we grow our own heroin and cocaine? When the medicinal properties of these drugs were "discovered" they were hailed as medical breakthroughs. Used to treat pain, depression, hysteria, anda host of ills, cocaine was thought to be a cure for heroin addiction.

But you won't be growing the purer forms of THC oil in your backyard - just like poppy and coca is regulated and only grown in certain places by certain government approved licenses, so will marijuana. I believe India is the world's largest producer of poppy for medical cocaine. And there will always be those black market sources for people who want to use the drugs for other than curative or medical reasons - just as there is now.

Would people support government controlled THC for cancer treatment? or are they more interested in being "free" to get high and have it socially and legally sanctioned? I would support the former but not the latter.
yes of course I do, I eat, drink, take breaks
40k a year now.  Work your shifts guys.
No, but a tall drink...
might be in order. On second thot - make it five! Ur gonna need 'em.
One drink a day it too much. I hope he has some
decent life insurance.
There isn't a disease that causes someone to take that first drink, first

cigarette, or first hit of whatever.  I also think a lot of times "disease" is an excuse and not a real issue.   I come from a very long line of alcoholics on both sides of my family.  As as result I feel I have a predisposition to becoming an alcoholic, so I choose not to drink.   Alcoholism may be a disease in some people, but it is curable.  HIV/AIDS is a disease too that is 100% preventable.   I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who refuse to take responsibility for their actions and want to blame everyone else.

FUN POLL: How many of you have a drink
I admit to having a glass of wine mixed with white soda from time to time.  LOL.  I'm such a boozer. Can't handle anything stronger!  With all these ESL's and mushies tonight, I deserve it.
FUN POLL: How many of you have a drink

While my computer is booting up, I get my drink..can't function without it! (sad huh?). Sometimes, I might have one before lunch, and one with lunch. Usually I stop and have nothing until after supper. Then, of course, I need one before bed. The funniest part, and you may think it's gross....I love an Oreo or two with my drink at night!

I think you'd drive me to drink, too,
if I lived with you!! Amen!  Nasty, much?
used to drink 16-18 cups a day,
but bladder "accidents" and health concerns caused me to cut down; also developed some scary heart-racing episodes. Now i average 2 cups a day and drink maybe 2 of hot tea in afternoon, and more water.
All you need is a little umbrella drink!
x
I'll drink to that!
Like you, I started MT at a time that mentoring was the norm. I don't think I would have made it without the support and faith of my teachers. It's unbelievable to me how downright mean and impatient some people in this profession become, but I've witnessed the same thing in the nursing profession (there we call it "eating one's young").

Newbies in any field need nurturing and encouragement, and I can't figure out why it's so darn challenging for some of us to give it to them!

I have often said....I drink my fair share, but....

CLEAN YOUR OWN PEEEEEEEEE!!!!  UN-F'ING REAL!!!

I really wish I could make myself drink more water..
but as a hazard of being a southern girl, I drink tea all day like it's going out of style
A drink versus Prozac

Don't worry about it.  A drink (in moderation) every now and then, in my opinion, is better than being hooked on Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, etc.   I know several women who do not drink, never drank but can not do without their "happy pill".  I have a glass of wine or beer after a hard day while cooking dinner which probably happens less than once a month.

I drink only unsweetened tea or water...

some families drink to deal with each other
There is a lot going on underneath the scenes, a lot of hurt feelings not dealt with, a lot of hostility, past differences not completely resolved.  All together in one house, the roof would fly off with all the pent up tension.  Alcohol smooths it out.
