You dare question the judgment of the almighty RN! How dare you!
Don't you know that RN's know everything and are the beginning and end all of all that's holy in the medical kingdom!?

But seriously, you have my sympathy, girl. Hang in there.

Dare

Okay, let me tell it like it is.....an MT who is near and dear to my heart works for SS.  She will occasionally "blow off steam" to me about this or that.  Because of the posts on here about SS, I called her recently to ask her if SS was really that bad and if so, would she like the number of the company where I work.  She laughed.  This is what she had to say, and it's pretty close to a direct quote:

No, I don't want to leave, for the most part I'm very happy.  I work when I am suppose to work.  I produce what I am suppose to produce and my QA score is high.  I do the hard accounts no one else wants to do so I never run out of work and my pay is really good.  (Still quoting) Some of these MTs have problems with ___ but she is NOT that bad if you just do what you're suppose to do when you're suppose to do it.  One thing you can count on, she is always FAIR.  Whether you like it or not, she is FAIR.

No, this is not my daughter MT that I mentioned previously.  She works for Edix/Spheris and has for I guess about 10 years and you couldn't run her off with a stick.  Still, she "blows off steam"  to me occasionally.  We all do that and that is our right but there is a point to just move on and let it go.

I've never taken dares but if I decided to make a move, I would go with SS I think.  I pretty well would guess that I would have no problems with the supervisor, no problems with pay, no problems with tech support, etc. etc.  If I found anything not to my liking, that I absolutely couldn't live with, then I would leave in a heart beat.  Never have had a problem getting another job and doubt I would  now.  I've been doing this for roughly 40 years and only once had a problem with a supervisor and quit because of it.  It really wasn't necessary for me to quit but the old supervisor I'd worked under for years, with NEVER an iota of a problem left and the new "whippersnapper" thought she was going to move mountains on day 1.  I questioned her once and she told me, "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU CAN ALWAYS QUIT."  So guess what I did? (I don't accept threats either).   I did get a call from a higher up asking me to come back but once I've left, I've left.  I never look back.

I'm not saying that your experience isn't true but then my experiences are true too.  So you see, it wouldn't do me any good to accept your dare, it wouldn't prove a thing.  Even if I found my experience was the same as your's, not everyone is going to  have that experience.

I bet that if everyone posting negative about ANY company would sign their real name and the company came here to answer the complaints, they would have their side of the story too.  I've always been of the opinion that there are really THREE sides to any story.  Your side, my side and the truth (which usually is somewhere in the middle).

Oh, regarding tech support.  Once when I worked for one of the big boys, the tech after trying several things to fix my problem, said in a rather grouchy tone, "I don't know what to tell you."  Nevermind that made me furious!!!  I mustered my sweetest voice and I said, "Oh, okay, would you tell ___ (supervisor) for me that I can't work because my computer is down?  Thanks anyway for trying."  HAHAHAHHAA I almost heard a gasp.  He then said, well, we could try, this.  Didn't work.  He said, "I'll get a new computer out to you today and you'll have it tomorrow.  I did and everything went on as per usual.

Oh, to dare to dream.......

Dare I ask. What exactly are chitlins? nm

and then I dare say, the management

would conveniently lower the pay to maybe 3/10 of a cent per line - lol.  Can't allow those lowly MTs to make any money.

Why is it that management (no matter what company or situation) always decides what is possible and what is in the best interests of everyone, when the vast majority of them have no clue and have never performed the work?  No wonder the economy has tanked.

Why is it that management (no matter what company or situation) always decides what is possible and what is in the best interests of everyone, when the vast majority of them have no clue and have never performed the work?  They also never think to consult the person who actually performs the work and get some very valuable input.  No wonder the economy has finally tanked.

No kids? So how do you dare even post here
when you have no idea how hard it is to be a mother? You can never imagine until you've been in our shoes. And I suppose you have a unique ability to spot a loser right away? Well you are unique then, because it happens over and over again that the men we fell in love with don't always stay the same. And it has nothing to do with being a loser. They don't have to be losers to not be able to make a relationship work. If you're sick of the single mother issue, then stay away from posts like this that will only upset your childless cold life.
I'm happy. I just don't dare post anything

Well there, I did it.  I said I am happy to work for MQ.

Bring it on!

How dare you make such a statement.
I beg your pardon..how dare you make such a generalization..How do you know what anyone elses work habits are?  I have worked for MQ for nine years and it has been nothing but turmoil, different rules for each regional office, pay cuts, platform changes, new CEOs every few months, rumors about selling the company left and right.  In July the SEs were told they were needed and the company was going to make the best job for SEs because they valued us..Now in January, there will be no more SEs and if you do not apply, just like a newbie, to be evaluated, just like a newbie, you will no longer have a job.  Please, I am most certainly not lazy, I have worked two full time jobs since 1997.  How dare you!
I wouldn't dare...1 drink and

How dare you? I used to live in a trailer and was not a skank

i wouldn't dare disfigure my body that way.
happy valentine's day to you too, though!!!!

As an MTSO, I don't dare raise my rates because...sm
I've been actually outbid when I gave a price of 11 cents a line. The competitor was offering 24 TAT too. I don't dare raise rates on my accounts anymore. That would be slitting our throats. One of my IC's actually took a pay cut on another account. The physicians said if they didn't cut their rates they would find a transcription company in India. The MTSO decided to cut the rate and any IC who wanted to stay on would have to take a pay cut too. Hey if you can find the work at higher pay, take it, but...
How dare you speak to a colleague in this manner.
You are in the minority. I am telling you this - the only thing that constructive criticism does is cause lack of confidence and distraction which lasts for me up to an entire day. We make mistakes. Not gonna change. QA should be honored for catching the error and leave the MT out of it. There is no need to do anything more but fire her and in this field, the doctor has the last word and they still decide in the end - get that MT off my work and well, if that doesn't happy, that is a good sign. I have seen grown women brought to tears from the bullies in this field and it is about time it stopped, while that giant sucking sound caused by our jobs going to India gets louder and louder. Solutions include pods - teams of QA editor, proofer, data collector who WORK TOGETHER with mutual respective, sense of professionalism and hey, how about some humor and kindness? Is there some reason why some MTs think they are our sargeants? The only thing you bullies have on us is the ability to be rude.
In this economy? I don't think 5 cpl for ANYTHING
Especially when they state they want someone who has experience, and is good at what they do. And more than that, such as 9-10 cpl, is an insult for straight medical transcription. MT isn't a 'career', it's a US sweatshop run by Indians.
economy
I think the biggest part of it is the economy right now. People are out of jobs, out of insurance, or worried about their jobs and trying not to spend any money, even on health care (dentists seem to be getting the worst of it). Unfortunately, aside from perpetuating the bad cycle of no spending = low business profits = job cuts, in medical terms it is especially bad that people are delaying things that they really need to avoid future problems/expenses, such as colonoscopies, screenings, etc. From everything I have seen so far, this is happening across the board with transcription volumes down. It's normal that we are in a slow period right now just after the holidays, but it seems there are a lot of people on these boards having a hard time finding a new MT job, even with a good resume. I don't think that is going to change until the economy rebounds. There are other challenges for the industry from India, EMR, SR, etc., but I think the economy is affecting our volumes in the immediate present more than anything right now.
Does it have a lot to do with the economy
Do you think it has to do with the economy or is this the way it has been for a while? I see posts from last year where people were being placed pretty easily and quickly.
I thought that maybe in a year things would look a little better. Hopefully anyway...
already signs its bad for the economy
As consumers, we are cutting back, because the price of everything is going up and wages going down.  Its completely out of balance.  Since Bush has been in office, consumers have had to increase their spending because of higher prices in the last year by about 200 billion.  Three years ago, consumers were spending 100 billion, now we are spending 500 billion.  People have just started to cut back, thats why movie theatres are advertising more to get people back in there, not as many kids are eating out, especially with the gas prices skyrocketing.  We've got a complete moron in the office.
THIS economy is doing well, unemployment at 4.9%. Where do you get
x
I think it is the economy. People don't have the
money to buy insurance, or are contractors because their company won't provide insurance, and they cannot afford to have the surgeries they used to. Unless it is a true emergency I bet the hospital rolls are way down. The economy is just very bad right now, and most folks can't even put a doc visit on a credit card, because the credit cards are maxed out. BTW: Even McDonald's recently closed at a mall close to me. Even they are feeling the economic crunch. Yikes!
I think most in this economy would not have a problem
accepting an inhouse deal, some yearn for the chance to have a so called steady income, steady work. The pay seems good. You just said you ran out of work for a few days. You have to ask yourself would you rather sit around in PJs, no money perhaps or inhouse with money. Simple.
AND if another country's economy fails
it will greatly affect us.
This economy is so bad, and the past overhiring
have made MTSOs scared, I believe. I sent out a zillion resumes a day and finally ended up with 1 full-time and 1 prn just in case the FT runs out of work. It took a year while I worked at a bad place and went broke. But you have got to keep trying, please keep up the faith. Statistically the more you send out the better chance of getting a response. Did not help when Medquist's thousands of MTs left at once too, so the market is flooded right now. Good luck to you.
Yeah, the whole world economy is going to be derailed because

Do you realize that the Bush tax cut saved this economy after 9/11?
Everybody got a tax cut.  Now you can't cut taxes to those who don't pay any, can you?  That would be socialism.  BTW, do you realize that the unemployment rate in those countries with cradle to grave entitlements runs more than 10%, as compared to our 4.9%.  France for example.  I know it seems like a simple solution that the taxes from the high wage earners should be taken away and given to those who don't earn anything, but in economic terms, that can destroy an economy and therefore hurt the low wager earners even more.  Case in point, the Clinton luxury tax back in the 90s.  He put a huge tax on boats and jewlery and had to remove it because of the trickle down damage that did to all the jobs those luxury items created.
Make sure you don't have it in express or economy mode.
Is it faint all over consistently or is it uneven? If it's consistently faint, go to your Start Menu, Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, right click on Dell Printer 720, Properties, General, Printing Preferences, and make sure Quality/Speed isn't set on Quick Print. If that doesn't fix it, post again and we'll try something else. You may have to put in a new cartridge.

economy doing well? did you ever consider unemployment is lower because after people lose their job
or temporary jobs. well, obviously unem. would look low. what town do you live in? we have major closings of businesses almost on a monthly basis.

we have stores closing all over the place. even 3 burger kings. gas is over $3.00, from $2.00, and is intended to stay that way.

I know of hardly anyone personally who is working full-time with any good benefits to speak of.

of course unem. would look like it is going down. 2000 people lose their jobs, 500 people find lower-paying, service jobs, and then unem. is down?

just look around, if you think the economy is so great. we are suffering in our area. we now face heating fuel prices going up may 100%, which is just went up about 50% last year, for some excuse or another.

americans are being extorted, and it is by our own rich in this country, who are what, the top 3%?

ever wonder where ALL that tons of money goes that is saved by closing shops, getting rid of full-time employees and all the benefits.

DOES THE SAVINGS GET PASSED-ON TO US, THE LITTLE GUY? No, we are actually pay MORE for everythiing. do you grocery shop? ever notice prices going up almost monthly, if not some weekly? salad dressing, 99 cents a few years ago, now over $2, and going up to $3?

how is that good for the economy again?
And we have the largest economy on earth, and lots of good comes

Considering all that you mentioned, the fact that the economy is growing is amazing. But,

Dear, I'm wondering if the economy has effected your paycheck...
something tells me it hasn't.
As Economy Slumps, Firms Line Up to Hire Skilled Foreign Workers

What the heck is going on around here?  It just gets better by the day!

Be VERY careful.
That kind of cruelty to animals is an indication of a very deep problem. You are a much better person than I would have been under the circumstances. I don't care what kind of sob story he tried to spin, I'd have sued him for everything he had for the false police report AND pressed charges for animal cruelty. At the very least, you might want to ask him to retract his accusations IN WRITING and send copies to the police department and the animal control folks, just in case the girl tries on some other type of false accusation to get attention. Your good heart is admirable and I am humbled by your charitable reaction, but at the same time, you must protect yourself, your family, and your innocent dog. JMHO.
Soy can also help, but you have to be careful...
as soy also can inhibit the thyroid  function.  One serving a day is all that is recommended to help with menopausal symptoms.
Thank you! Be careful though,
horsewhipped for your "liberal agenda".
OSI be careful?
Why?
be careful
I wouldn't use a vacuum, some of the parts are tiny and you could end up sucking them up. The canned air is better, it won't damage anything.
Me, too, but be careful (sm)

I read something about a prostate being dictated as a _______ cc prostate, which needed to remain as is. Anybody know?

Seriously, he does need to be careful what he
nm
Be careful with that!
When you get paid by the line, you get paid by the number of lines times your cpl. Usually a line is 65 characters including spaces. When you get paid by the character, that can often (although not always) mean getting paid by actual character strokes--AND THAT CAN GET YOU BURNED. If you use an expander, as any intelligent MT would do, you won't be paid for the letters your Expander adds to the document--only for the actual keystrokes. For example, if you type "djd;" and that expanded to "degenerative disk disease," you would only be paid for four characters as opposed to the 25 characters you SHOULD be paid for. Some companies do it this way, some don't. Make sure you check it out COMPLETELY!
I'd be careful sm
$1.20 for plain films would be OK. $1.20 for MRIs, Angios, etc would be a rip off. Make sure you have a good mix of reports.
Be careful about doing this...
I've tried this and couldn't access anything with the control set to the highest (no nudity, violence, etc), but when control set to medium or mild, could access EVERYTHING...including nudity, violence, etc.  So for me, it didn't work that well...it is like all or nothing...good luck though
be very careful
From my own personal experience what they really probably want is to buy your clients and keep your name and reputation.  I worked for a small local company - they wooed the woman with promises of big money.  she had to sign a non compete contract so she could never get the accounts back - and most of them were very dissatisfied with the indian work and dropped the service - when they dropped the service - the indians said that negated the money they had promised her.  She didn't get most of it.  They are obnoxious - promise the moon.  They wanted me to stay on as QA - work was ghastly.  They expect you to work the hours that they do - very long 12-14 hour days.  Aren't very understanding about emergencies or vacations - they don't get them.
be careful...
I don't use a code. If you live in a state that collects sales tax on services, you may end up owing money for that even though you are an IC. Every state is different and I got nailed before I moved for a bunch of $$. I fought it and won, but my attorney advised me to leave it blank on the tax return from now on or at least until it was specific enough.
Be careful
I worked for them for a short while. Lisa is rude and mean. There are some very nice editors though. It would be a nice place to get some experience but if you have other options, take them. The pay isn't great, no benefits. They also charge 5.00 for mispelled names, even if the report is only worth 1.25. Slow platform
careful
Verizon just won a lawsuit against them for stealing software or something....they lost and have to pay Verizon 58 million. Even if they do stay in business, that has got to reflect on their pricing in the long run.
Please be careful
Yes, the only way to make it in this business is to pound faster, pound longer and/or pound for more than one.  You are already having physical problems.  If you go the pound faster/pound longer route, they are only going to get worse to the point that you may not be able to pound at all.  Can you afford that?  Can you afford the medical bills?  You know the doc is going to tell you to back off the work.  Studies on carpal tunnel syndrome indicate that stress is often a factor - thus why some people can do this job for a long time without apparent problems and others can't.  You need to find a comfortable work zone and stay in it.  Scribbles is right.  How well you do isn't work ethic alone.  It also depends on how good, or at the very least, how stable your accounts are.  It's also about working smart.  Use your Expander to best advantage.  Use the platform and its keyboard shortcuts to best advantage.  Good luck, but be careful!
be careful of this
About 8 months ago, I got screwed up with a dell computer because the salesperson steered me wrong. I told him exactly I needed XP on it and he said that vista can work find with companies using xp, and this salesperon was in the US.  The computer he sold me was not compatable with companies using XP, and tech support told me they will help you take vista off and load xp on it but they are not obligated to give you tech support after XP is loaded.  At least that is what I was told.  After pulling teeth I finally got my account credited.
be careful
If it's the place in Kentucky, I worked for them for a few months last year (and by the way have STILL not received tax info for the year - they have to send me SOMETHING, even though I was classified as independent contractor). Things went well for a while but every time you start making money with one account, they switch you out to another so it's constant relearning and it's a while till you can make any money. They switched me out 5 times in 3 months!!! Also, the owner is a little "odd" and another higher up told me she had some "problems". Be careful!
