How dare you speak to a colleague in this manner.

You are in the minority. I am telling you this - the only thing that constructive criticism does is cause lack of confidence and distraction which lasts for me up to an entire day. We make mistakes. Not gonna change. QA should be honored for catching the error and leave the MT out of it. There is no need to do anything more but fire her and in this field, the doctor has the last word and they still decide in the end - get that MT off my work and well, if that doesn't happy, that is a good sign. I have seen grown women brought to tears from the bullies in this field and it is about time it stopped, while that giant sucking sound caused by our jobs going to India gets louder and louder. Solutions include pods - teams of QA editor, proofer, data collector who WORK TOGETHER with mutual respective, sense of professionalism and hey, how about some humor and kindness? Is there some reason why some MTs think they are our sargeants? The only thing you bullies have on us is the ability to be rude.

You dare question the judgment of the almighty RN! How dare you!
Don't you know that RN's know everything and are the beginning and end all of all that's holy in the medical kingdom!?

But seriously, you have my sympathy, girl. Hang in there.

I do agree. If they talked to a colleague the way they talk to us,

Does SR work in same manner at different

if I do it with one company, will it be easy transition to do it for another company?

Thanks.

Can we PLEASE desist using "NOT!" in this manner? It hasn't been funny since ྔ. nm

Dare

Okay, let me tell it like it is.....an MT who is near and dear to my heart works for SS.  She will occasionally "blow off steam" to me about this or that.  Because of the posts on here about SS, I called her recently to ask her if SS was really that bad and if so, would she like the number of the company where I work.  She laughed.  This is what she had to say, and it's pretty close to a direct quote:

No, I don't want to leave, for the most part I'm very happy.  I work when I am suppose to work.  I produce what I am suppose to produce and my QA score is high.  I do the hard accounts no one else wants to do so I never run out of work and my pay is really good.  (Still quoting) Some of these MTs have problems with ___ but she is NOT that bad if you just do what you're suppose to do when you're suppose to do it.  One thing you can count on, she is always FAIR.  Whether you like it or not, she is FAIR.

No, this is not my daughter MT that I mentioned previously.  She works for Edix/Spheris and has for I guess about 10 years and you couldn't run her off with a stick.  Still, she "blows off steam"  to me occasionally.  We all do that and that is our right but there is a point to just move on and let it go.

I've never taken dares but if I decided to make a move, I would go with SS I think.  I pretty well would guess that I would have no problems with the supervisor, no problems with pay, no problems with tech support, etc. etc.  If I found anything not to my liking, that I absolutely couldn't live with, then I would leave in a heart beat.  Never have had a problem getting another job and doubt I would  now.  I've been doing this for roughly 40 years and only once had a problem with a supervisor and quit because of it.  It really wasn't necessary for me to quit but the old supervisor I'd worked under for years, with NEVER an iota of a problem left and the new "whippersnapper" thought she was going to move mountains on day 1.  I questioned her once and she told me, "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU CAN ALWAYS QUIT."  So guess what I did? (I don't accept threats either).   I did get a call from a higher up asking me to come back but once I've left, I've left.  I never look back.

I'm not saying that your experience isn't true but then my experiences are true too.  So you see, it wouldn't do me any good to accept your dare, it wouldn't prove a thing.  Even if I found my experience was the same as your's, not everyone is going to  have that experience.

I bet that if everyone posting negative about ANY company would sign their real name and the company came here to answer the complaints, they would have their side of the story too.  I've always been of the opinion that there are really THREE sides to any story.  Your side, my side and the truth (which usually is somewhere in the middle).

Oh, regarding tech support.  Once when I worked for one of the big boys, the tech after trying several things to fix my problem, said in a rather grouchy tone, "I don't know what to tell you."  Nevermind that made me furious!!!  I mustered my sweetest voice and I said, "Oh, okay, would you tell ___ (supervisor) for me that I can't work because my computer is down?  Thanks anyway for trying."  HAHAHAHHAA I almost heard a gasp.  He then said, well, we could try, this.  Didn't work.  He said, "I'll get a new computer out to you today and you'll have it tomorrow.  I did and everything went on as per usual.

Oh, to dare to dream.......

Dare I ask. What exactly are chitlins? nm

and then I dare say, the management

would conveniently lower the pay to maybe 3/10 of a cent per line - lol.  Can't allow those lowly MTs to make any money.

Why is it that management (no matter what company or situation) always decides what is possible and what is in the best interests of everyone, when the vast majority of them have no clue and have never performed the work?  No wonder the economy has tanked.

Why is it that management (no matter what company or situation) always decides what is possible and what is in the best interests of everyone, when the vast majority of them have no clue and have never performed the work?  They also never think to consult the person who actually performs the work and get some very valuable input.  No wonder the economy has finally tanked.

of course they speak english, with an accent but they speak British-English quite well.
And I can't speak Indian so I guess they have an edge don't they?
No kids? So how do you dare even post here
when you have no idea how hard it is to be a mother? You can never imagine until you've been in our shoes. And I suppose you have a unique ability to spot a loser right away? Well you are unique then, because it happens over and over again that the men we fell in love with don't always stay the same. And it has nothing to do with being a loser. They don't have to be losers to not be able to make a relationship work. If you're sick of the single mother issue, then stay away from posts like this that will only upset your childless cold life.
I'm happy. I just don't dare post anything

Well there, I did it.  I said I am happy to work for MQ.

Bring it on!

How dare you make such a statement.
I beg your pardon..how dare you make such a generalization..How do you know what anyone elses work habits are?  I have worked for MQ for nine years and it has been nothing but turmoil, different rules for each regional office, pay cuts, platform changes, new CEOs every few months, rumors about selling the company left and right.  In July the SEs were told they were needed and the company was going to make the best job for SEs because they valued us..Now in January, there will be no more SEs and if you do not apply, just like a newbie, to be evaluated, just like a newbie, you will no longer have a job.  Please, I am most certainly not lazy, I have worked two full time jobs since 1997.  How dare you!
I wouldn't dare...1 drink and
nm
In this economy I would not dare - they may look elsewhere, be careful!
.
How dare you? I used to live in a trailer and was not a skank

i wouldn't dare disfigure my body that way.
happy valentine's day to you too, though!!!!

As an MTSO, I don't dare raise my rates because...sm
I've been actually outbid when I gave a price of 11 cents a line. The competitor was offering 24 TAT too. I don't dare raise rates on my accounts anymore. That would be slitting our throats. One of my IC's actually took a pay cut on another account. The physicians said if they didn't cut their rates they would find a transcription company in India. The MTSO decided to cut the rate and any IC who wanted to stay on would have to take a pay cut too. Hey if you can find the work at higher pay, take it, but...
Hey, speak for yourself (sm)
My accounts are 95% ESL. I love them. I can do them. It's job security, thanks to the MTs who can't or won't do them. As long as I can hear them and the technical quality is there, I welcome the ESL challenge!
SPEAK CLEARLY!

I'm lost as to why doctors can not just speak more clearly. I know it is possible, I have many doctors who do it. I am only 25, and I am going to be gray by the time I am 30.

PLS DO SPEAK CLEARLY
My god. i know that its hard to have so many patients, its also hard to transcribe if you cant speak clearly, for the doctors that can talk more fluent thank you very much.
I would not speak

or respond to any job posting that used a hotmail address.  ANY reputable company will have professional email set up that uses their company name, such as   recruiter@reputablecompany.com.

Did he speak to you about it?

Speak for yourself
Geez!
You cannot speak for everyone!!

http://www.advanceweb.com/

Hey, speak for yourself...
And her opinions in posts. She put in ample dues in this profession and I for one am delighted that she showed up here to post and keep her fingers on the pulse of the MT biz. I think Ella pretty much rocks.

Pay the naysayers no mind, Ella...You keep posting, girlfriend, because I'm sure I'm not the only one who respects your contribution to the profession and your continued input.

And, geez, she was only pointing out that there are good and bad in EVERY race, nothing wrong with that perspective, especially since IMO it's correct.

I sympathize with you with the ESLs (just finished a 15-minute report dictated by a VERY Chinese dictator which has me ready to beat my head into my monitor, lol!), but don't take it out on Ella. Without the blood, sweat and tears of MTs like Ella, where we would all be today?

These ESL's speak more than their own language, sm
many are fluent in several languages.  They also pay income taxes at the same rate as USA-born doctors.  Until you can speak their language as well as they can speak ours, have some compassion for their efforts, and be glad that you have a job.  There are ESLs wherever you go.  Better get used to it.  Or better yet, why don't you travel to a country where you don't speak the language.  It might humble you a bit when you see how difficult it is.
you speak your mind ....
with facts and not with vicious attacks and I like that quality in people.  What you say makes sense and I appreciate reading your opinion.  But I did not post anything with the intentions of warning someone away but rather they research certain things before accepting a position with not just a particular transcription service or company but with any prospective employer and decide for themselves what is right for them.
I think I did not speak clearly about the just showing up MTs

If a company hires only ICs, then they cannot expect them to work except for the times they want.

Typing less than 100 lines a day is not pocketchange because of the pay.

so, did he speak at the convention?
i
If you continue to speak to me
like that I will ban you from my site.  Now, I'm trying to relate to you guys by being honest. You should appreciate that.
Speak for yourself. I want and need to know my mistakes.
I'm sure there are those who get offended but not all are that way.

I speak from experience
I had a dog who had to have surgery and I asked for the "Buster" collar. They said they had a different "new and improved kind" and put it on him. Well, he got out of it numerous times with three trips back to the vet's office with ripped-out sutures and even after leaving him there all night (when they came in the next morning, he was out of the collar and had the sutures ripped out), I FINALLY got the Buster collar I asked for as they finally believed me. Don't take the collar off-- you will be sorry.
speak for your own family!
My family loves our pets.  I have three children and four dogs and two cats and two birds.  Our family loves each of our pets like they are a member of this family because they are!!!!!  My husband and I treat them like they are also our children.  They are very well behaved and SOOOO much fun.
Might I add that I speak from the heart,
literally, as I'm right there with ya at the bottom of the totem pole, so you are not alone.
I would call and ask to speak with the
manager and report it anonymously, if you can block your number somehow, absolutely! I know if I was her manager, I would definitely want to know, especially since you mention this is a larger national service. Perhaps that's WHY they're posting for jobs *all the time*? How scary.
I can't speak for any other company, but
for my particular situation, its a trickle down effect. QA is only as good as the layer above us. Nothing we can do about it anymore than the MTs can.  Basically, I guess I'm saying we're on an even rung on the food chain - and all answer to those above!
Speak for yourself. This seasoned MT can't do
nm
This is what I will suggest so we can all speak up.

On one day, say May 1, every MT that reads this sends a letter to the Editor of their local newspaper calling attention to the fact that protected medical information may be going overseas, complete with SSNs.  If people don't start becoming involved in protecting their own information, then they don't know or maybe even don't care, but I think many will start to ask questions.  But I could be wrong.

Obviously I can't speak for ALL ER docs
and perhaps your son's exam was as dictated, but I know from personal experience that they often "fill in" stuff on the reports.
Can't speak to QA, but SR editing...SM
My incipient carpal problems that required splints and even days off now and then totally went away and stayed away with mostly editing and light transcription. BTW, if efficient with SR editing, should top $20/hour easily and nicely (but can't advise reading out loud, which would slow down production tremendously if I were doing it--different strokes).
can't speak for the rest of them
I know one MTSO who was going to put on an ad and has backed off with what has been going on with the ownership of the board. I think it's just like the number of postings being down - people are on here but are hesitating because they're not sure if everything is okay. I think if you give it a little more time you'll see more and more ads come back on as people relax about the board again.
Don't speak for all, but it would be hard
to work in a place with people "coming and going" if you are listening to dictation. I wouldn't be doing work in an airport, STarbucks, or whatever.
Sometimes, when they let an Indian speak
on TV, you might have noticed that Indians pronounce 'that' as 'dat'.

I know NOTHING about Ebonics, have never heard it.

Is saying 'I aks' instead of 'I ask' also Ebonics?
If only they would dictate/speak - sm

as clearly as they did when going for their interview for medical school or hospital position.  If they spoke then they way they dictate now - they'd never have gotten into school or gotten their MD jobs -- so WE KNOW that THEY KNOW how to speak intelligibly when they want to; they just don't think we're worth the effort.

I appreciate and respect the ESL who puts forth an honest effort to be understood, over someone (usually English as FIRST language) slurring at 78 rpm, going through the HPI/PMH with ..ah, ... um ... (2 words) ... er ... (1 word) ....uh, ...(2 minutes pause) ... uh...uh... and then speed-racing through meds, labs, and whenever reading diagnostic reports verbatim .. so everyone knows that they know how to say those long words and which they wouldn't be able to come up with on their own.  My pet peeve??  We're BORN knowing how to spell any doc's name, just because THEY know how: i.e, ."CC to Dr. Kryswkowskizhausen and then spells J-O-N-E-S.

Speak for yourself. I have fabulous conditions
with my present employer and have had the entire 3 years I've been there.

Conditions are NOT deplorable for all MTs -- only when you accept those conditions are they present.

While we don't need to assume responsibility for turnover costs, it's no wonder companies don't want to give some the time of day. They want MTs who have a proven track record of dedicated length of service, production, and quality and who are interested in doing that again.

It DOES cost to hire -- and that does NOT mean necessarily the actual training of an experienced MT but includes HR personnal to interview/process you, the time others have to cover while you learn your accounts, etc.

If you're a responsible person at all, you'd have a better attitude than the one you just posted.
Well...I have the experience you speak of and I just asked if there
were any positions as an Editor open and I am now an editor. But for the most part, I agree with the other poster...LOL.
When I speak of being in the psych ward
I only say that because this decision I need to make about what to do has been driving me crazy. All the "I should do this, and I should do thats" The What if this and What if that...My head is in a tailspin.
At least most of them speak English as a first language, eh.
Except the Francophones/Quebecois. Plus, they're not undercutting us on wages.

Pas DE probleme!
If you don't speak on a daily basis . . .
x
We speak several times daily.
Even right now while he's overseas on a business trip, we make time for a couple daily phone calls.
