Mixed on the female dictators

Posted By: Kelly on 2008-07-31

I have some I like and some I don't. I have noticed that I have trouble hearing certain female voice tones even if they are speaking relatively plainly.

I have one who will totally leave words out and replace them with a grunting noise or no word at all. She does this consistently, and I can't help wonder what she is thinking. It almost seems like a habit type of thing. I wonder if she does it during normal conversations. Lol :)

Any others out there?

Female Dictators
Okay, let me state up front, I know this is going to sound sexist, but I don't care.

Does anyone else cringe when they get female dictators?

In my 12+ years of transcription, I've had a handful of women dictators that I enjoyed. I miss them. We could have been sisters.

It seems like the majority of women dictators are either disorganized and full of "ahhhhhhs" or lack the basic knowledge that a human ear can only decipher words at a particular rate. And it helps if that rate is slow and steady. Instead of:

"hecomesintodayforbliganfoulainangioplarbaday ... and ... um ... he states ... um ... he is ... ahh ... feeling ... ... ... ... ... ... well. Physicalexamblooprezimafufpulbivafuweightofusy ... extremities ... um ... barkbuflowefbuckskiassplover ... um ... end of dictation."

Or maybe I'm just more forgiving to a deeper, soothing voice.

Either way, I have 2 hours of a female dictator that I HATE today, and I totally want to pull her hair.

Am I the only one?
Female dictators
No, you aren't alone. I thought I was the only one who felt that way. Out of my 14 years transcribing, I have only heard one or two that did not irritate me, have one currently that makes me want to scream.
female dictators
I'm totally with you!! Can't stand to get them. They are either muffled or too fast or changing their mind
Generally, I have more trouble with female dictators..

something about the tone of their voices is harder for me to understand

Not always. Tongue stumblers. New dictators. Speedy and lazy dictators.
D
?? Bad dictators are bad dictators regardless of their mother language.

wonder when people will just get over it and do what they can and move on.

Maybe I'm getting the posters mixed up here.

I was responding to the person who wrote *I just started with a company, and I honestly don't think I will EVER be able to make the line count .... 11,000.*  That's what I meant by the line count being required.

As problematic as the company is, though, I don't think they offshore.

I can't speak for all of them, but my experience was that while they help in terms of lowering interest, you are still going to be stuck for years and years because that is the name of the game with credit card sharks...

The politicians have made it even easier for the cc companies to "enslave"
people by making is really really hard to declare bankruptcy - and there are many legitimate reasons for filing bankrupt. NOtice how minimum payments went up right after that law passed? It's no accident.

You can usually tell which companies are professional and which aren't... but pay close attention to the fees you are paying them to cut your interest... They get a kickback from the credit card companies on top of that fee - make sure it's not out of bounds. Good luck (free advise: cut up all cards except for one!).
I have mixed feelings.
My knee-jerk reaction is to boycott any company offshoring. It feels like a personal insult at times, toward American workers. This is a reaction, though.

My response (using the brain, not the heart) tells me that globalization of this and every other industry is here. It is not going away. I want the U.S. to be able to trade with other companies; I don't think it is in this country's best interest to be withdrawn from the world. While I would like to take it personally, from an intellectual perspective this was going to happen one way or another. The MT job as it is today would eventually be outdated by advancements in technology. So it is not like offshoring alone has caused these changes. All industries evolve. It is what allows us to have better products, cheaper prices, and more affordable living choices. This field is no different. This is a response.

I do not plan to martyr myself in vain for something that is following its natural path of progression. Taking such an obstinant position against change would be the greatest catalyst to my financial demise -- the world will go on changing, so I had better learn to change, adapt, and evolve with it!

Apologizing, got you mixed up with someone else.

Not a word help question: Would menstrual blood mixed with urine cause increased microalbumin? (pl
My 21-YO daughter has type 2 DM, but it is very well controlled by diet alone.  She just had some lab tests done (blood and urine), and they called to let us know her urine microalbumin was slightly elevated.  However, she was on her period when they did the urine test, and she said there was definitely blood mixed in with her urine because of this.  Does anyone know if this would affect the microalbumin result?  They want her to start taking a small dose of lisinopril, but she doesn't want to and wants to wait 6 months for the next test.  Her hemoglobin A1c and other values were "perfect" according to the nurse who called, but we are waiting for the actual results to come via mail.

I hear such mixed thoughts regarding getting accounts by going door-to-door soliciting yourself.

Is it worth it.  Are there many people out there that have landed new accounts this way?  Most MTSOs that have been in business for a long time say it is by word of mouth, but what about MTs like me who have been doing this five years.  I feel I'm ready for my own accounts and am not sure if this is the best route.

Any opinions?

And you'll almost never get just Op notes. Probably get mixed acute care - op notes, discharge su

Female..hands down !

I swear, every account I've ever worked had one problem dictator.. always female !  One REFUSED to use macros, even on normals.. and she would always make sure she made every report unique, so that we couldn't sneak away with using a macro for her.  Another one spoke a hundred miles a minute.  I remember my first day with her.  She said something several times in her reports and I went crazy trying to figure it out.... lumbar spine ??  supine ??  Turns out she was saying "skip a line" !!

That's why I use vg for the female part.

MALE MT or FEMALE MT?

Who is better in the Medical Transcription? Men or women medical transcriptionists. I believe it has been a debate throughout decades who is better in this industry. Regardless of Race and regardless of Age. Let the battle begin... (hey its just for fun)

State your side: Age sex Location. No names Pls. and comments. Maybe Footonmyneck, SUN, Cheeseburger, Proud to be Indian, and the entire MT Stars gang can start it up. Its better than talking about outsourcing and MQ for a change.

When the hospital looked at my college courses they thought I would be a great fit for a part-time transcription job.

Had no clue what an MT was back then but they started me at $7.61 an hour which was a lot more than what all my friends were making back then.

With a lot of help from spellcheck, my trusty word books and a very patient old timer sitting next to me in the dept - it all worked out.

I'm a 27-year-old female MT (7 years) with a numb right wrist, but I love my job.  Started with Transcriptions Limited, then Medquist & Spheris, now thoroughly enjoying MT at a small but wonderful service.
