he's never done this before.  He has no other symptoms that I can see--eating & drinking fine, no runny nose or eyes. He's never had this before. He is primarily a housecat, but goes out in the mornings for a couple of hours to roam around. His shots are current. Does anyone know if this is a sign of something serious?

47-year-old male - Kentucky!

Yes, I should be able to, but over the past week, suddenly I can't. NM

That is exactly what I heard this past week
the FHA is there to help people out and you should absolutely check with them. Good advice.
Little to no work for the past week.
Where have all the dictators gone? I have been idle for the past week without work and QAs say that doctors are on vacation. Does this make any sense?

Pls help!
this past year
ok i feel dumb but if he dictates "in March of this past  year" what year is that?
She had an ectopic pregnancy. They were showing everything that happened in the past. Next week it

In the past when I've needed extra work could get a response from co.'s within a week and be w
Now it's like zip, zero, nothing. No responses whatsoever from my emails to the companies here and on mtjobs.com.

At first I was looking for specifics regarding hospital work, clinic work, days, hours, etc., and choosing those but later got desperate and even with 16 years experience have been applying for 7-cent-a-line clinic jobs.... STILL no response from ANYONE! Well, actually, I get responses but they are automated emails stating I've passed the test(s) and will be contacted in X amount of days/weeks/months. Then I never hear back even with a followup email. In the past, I could get a new job within a week or two.

I don't know. I was thinking maybe they're thinking that with 16 years experience it would be easier to go with someone with less experience (for whatever reasons), so I'm considering just putting down 5 years or so as my experience instead of the truth. Could be they don't want to deal with this old dinosaur and want new blood, I don't know.
IC - 30 hours week, $98K last year. So far this year - 28K. sm
Individual IC - own account(s).
My goal every year is $52k, which I have done for the past 2 years working sm
for Keystrokes. I do radiology only, I should mention. I took the amount I wanted (actually needed) to make in a year, divided it by 52 weeks, divided it by 5 days, came up with $1000 per week or $200 per day. I divided that by 8 hours and by my report rate ($1.25). I know that I need to transcribe 20 reports per hour on average. I keep a tally. Some days, it takes me longer to do than others, but I sit down and do my 8 hours every single day. I use my Expander a LOT (literally for all but a few words). I am on one account, so I know those doctors inside and out. If I am short at the end of the week, I ask if there is work available on the weekend for me to do. The most I end up with 2 hours to make up what might have been short during the week.

At $40k, you would need to make $153.85 per day, or $19.23 per hour. At $0.07, you need to type 275 lines per hour, or 2200 for the day. This should be very easy to get with using an expander and sitting down with a set schedule.

It takes a while to get used to making sure you hit your internal quota every day. I have to think of it daily and make it up on Saturday or Sunday so that I never start a week behind my personal goal.

I also take an incentives that are handed out (for instance if they are asking for help in a backlog situation at increased rate) and work at least a partial shift on holidays. If I am ahead at the end of the week, I carry it to the next week and know that I have some lines in my internal quota bank.

I know this sounds weird, but it works for me. I have helped a few others to get to their goals as well, and this seems to work for them too.

I would also look for something that is more in the 0.08 to 0.09 per line range. Ask your lead for production tips. Ask other transcriptionists. It is very possible for us to make good money, we just have to focus on our goals.

I have a sales background, which involved sales quotas. This is easier as I am in control of my daily production, not on someone else's decisions.

Good luck!
27-year-old born with no past medical history
I had that the other day. Is anyone actually born with a past medical history?
Nothing this year!! I'm surprised since in the past we always received a nice surprise! nm

Sneezing indoor/outdoor cat
Our cat who likes to go outdoors for a couple of hours every morning to get the nighttime kinks out was sneezing too as you described yours is.  Her shots are all current, etc. as well.  Took her to the vet who put her on an antibiotic.  She said that cats and outside critters carry viruses at different times of the year just like humans do the flu, etc. and if outside they are susceptible to those airborn viruses from other critters and cats that are outside.  One week of cat antibiotics and she was sneeze free!  Thought I'd pass that along!  Good luck!
My 5-year-old goes to the sitter 3 days a week....sm
4 if I need her to.  The 1-2 days she's home I have lots of arts and craft things for her to do and she'll play with her toys.  I do take frequent breaks to check on her when she's here.   She is allowed to watch TV 2 hours a day so she'll usually pop in a movie while I'm working or watch PBS.
We rented a house last year for a week
cheaper than a hotel. The house was a 4 bedroom, 3 bath home, dining, kitchen, living room, covered pool/patio, washer and dryer and alarm system. I paid a little over $400 for the whole week (7 days) because hotels go by number of people. We went to the grocery store and stocked up on food and for the money we saved we rented a car. We stayed in Kissimmee. Check out www.vamoose.com
Hmm...so far? Is she going to be like that 70-year-old who birthed twins last week??
You never know these days!
$44,000 last year at 7.75 cpl with wonderful bonuses at maybe 30-35 hours a week, BUT
then my bonuses were cut when we went to a new system and now I have to work 60-70 hours a week to make the same. So, really there are too many variables here.
Glad to see MT Week recognized here. My company did nothing this year. We have always sm
received a nice gift in the mail in the past.  I'm not saying I expect an expensive gift or anything, but a thank you of some sort would have been nice.  I waited to post this, holding hope that maybe they were late like last year in sending stuff out, but I have pretty much given up now.  Thanks MT Stars!!
My 9 year old daughter has it now. Two other kids in her class were sick this week also.

Made 60K last year working 50 hours a week being paid on gross line

But why sign it to put the past behind? The past should have

It seems that they dredged up the past by wanting the release signed to keep them out of trouble for unfair employment practices.  Usually when a person ends the working relationship, they give formal written notice, the company accepts the notice, and the employment is over.  Smells pretty fishy to send a termination agreement and, oh by the way, sign this release.  LOL

Typically this week is a slow week in lots of places

because it is a big vacation week.  Typically things slow dow a bit in the summer too because people are putting off elective surgery, but at the same time lots of people going on vacation so it should balance out.

Lowest runs $900 week, highest $1400 week (sm)

Male MTs
I have been an MT for over 20 years.  My hubby is unemployed and looking for new career options.  He is checking into the MT schools and even talked to an employer today that hires ouf of a certain school.  I have known very few men in this career field over the years, maybe 5 that I knew personally and counted as friends.  I asked my boss when I first got into MT why we didn't have more men in the office doing MT.  She said she thought maybe they just didn't know about it.  Well now I am talking to my friends, and I have heard some of their husbands are checking into it.  They like the idea of staying home to work and spending more time with their children.  The few men that I have known over the  years that did MT really enjoyed it as a career.  I think it would be nice to see more.
male MTs
Michael, Michael, Michael - careful now. I have 2 nieces married to "beauticians" who BTW, nowadays refer to themselves as "stylists," and I'm quite sure neither of them is gay.

People have stereotypes about others - period.

I've been in this business a long time and I remember when male MTs were rare. I saw men come into the job for the same reasons women do - interesting work, independence, and of course the huge attraction of working at home, no office politics, etc.

BTW, Michael, if it "frosts" you butt, why did you use an emoticon with fire? (Just kidding you.)
I think it is a male...

I work 6 days a week every other week

Due to my company's payroll (it runs Sun-Sat), I'm able to work a rotating schedule with every other weekend off. Week 1 I work Sunday through Thursday with Fri, Sat, Sun off.  Week 2 I work Monday through Friday with Saturday only off.  Then I'm back to week 1 and get that following weekend off.

I've found that I'm more productive with shorter shifts and I have kids in school anyway, so I work a lot of split shifts during the week.  If possible, you might want to consider cutting back your hours to 30 hours and just work five 6-hour days in split shifts, 3 in the morning and 3 in the evening.

Had to train my male (sm)
Started by keeping the box really clean with that nice scooping sand that they like. Then I would walk over to the box and say, here kitty, and invite him to go in.
After his pee pee in the box, he gets a treat!
We still have an occasional problem, but only when the box is dirty. The pee pee in the corner means he doesn't like that dirty box!

I never go to a male doc for this very reason. nm

The patient is a male

The doctor said:   "He denies bloody or cloudy urine, pain with urination and vaginal bleeding."

I crack up laughing and quote this to my husband, stating the patient's gender.

And his response was, "I hope so."
(think about it)

So where exactly is the male vagina?

MALE MT or FEMALE MT?

Who is better in the Medical Transcription? Men or women medical transcriptionists. I believe it has been a debate throughout decades who is better in this industry. Regardless of Race and regardless of Age. Let the battle begin... (hey its just for fun)

State your side: Age sex Location. No names Pls. and comments. Maybe Footonmyneck, SUN, Cheeseburger, Proud to be Indian, and the entire MT Stars gang can start it up. Its better than talking about outsourcing and MQ for a change.

Male MT or female MT
35-year-old female, AR
I don't as I know several straight male MTs...sm
just like I know some straight male nurses.
Ok, here's the Big Male Secret...
We want y'all to think we're helpless and can't do things so we can get out of doing stuff. It works, too! :)
Big Male Secret
It's not a secret, Rad Guy. We just let you think it is.
Go TAYLOR!!!!!.....AI wants a male to win!! n/m

I only see one picture of the male.....nm

male transcriptionists
I worked with one where we were paid $25 an hour - he would come in on Saturday and Sunday and milk the clock for 12-16 hours when there was only about 1-2 hours of work. This went on for a couple of years. Then I had another male MT as a supervisor and he was very nice and has always helped me to find work when I needed it. Different strokes for different folks.
One of the male MTs emailed me his pic. sm
I didnt know he was sending me a pic of his little willie.  I didnt want to see a penis when I looked and then just ROFL @ it.
female vs male
I would rather listen to a male dictator as well, depending on how low his tone is.  I do have one female that I do like.  She is actually very good, very organized.  What I do hate, with a passion, is a female ESL dictator.  That is the worst of both worlds.  Talk about REALLY not knowing what the heck they are saying!!!
Who do people assume all male MTs are gay?
Its not like we're BEAUTICIANS or FLORISTS or something! This really frosts my butt!
you say it's wrong to assume male MTs are gay
but then you say, "Its not like we're BEAUTICIANS or FLORISTS or something!"

TALLY OF MALE/FEMALE MTS

Good Evening People, we have a tally of the Male MTs and Female MTs as of November 19, 2005. Have a nice day

Male: SEVEN (7)

Female: FORTY (40)

Pls read the rules

Definitely neuter him!! I have three male dogs and have had this...sm
problem as well. Our first male dog is a mixed Dachsund. He was very anxious and hiked on everything, especially when we were gone. Having him neutered helped calm him down and helped with the hiking. He is now 5 years old. We had him neutered at 2 years of age and he has never hiked since then. Also, he calmed down enough to be put in the bathroom when we leave! Our second male dog is a chocolate cocker spaniel. We had him neutered mainly because he was hiking to mark his male territory. Had him done around 1 year of age and he has never done it since. He has never had a problem with being put in a cage when we are gone, but neutering has calmed him down and taken away the hiking problem. OUr third male dog is a Cavilier King Charles Spaniel. He is 8 months old and getting neutered tomorrow! He has been doing the hiking thing to mark his spot in the chain! We are expecting him to do well and quit the hiking also!! I would definitely recommend neutering your doggie! I think it would help him in both the hiking and his anxiety. Good luck and lots of luv to your doggie!!!
Sure do !!! I have 2 Rotties, one male and one female...
The male is cool as a cucumber. The female on the other hand is in constant motion all the time even though I jog with each of them 30 minutes per day. It's not too bad when the SO is home to divert their attention. When he's not, they can drive me nuts....
Actually, you can tell a male from a female by the tail.
A male's tail is tapers to a much finer point than a female's (I don't know the difference if there is a rattle involved).

The only male MT I've worked with is now ...
one of the MDs I transcribe for now. He worked as an MT for the same small service I did while he was going to school.
Nah...the male poster was more articulate than that!
