Need help please

I am needing some advice on my relationship situation. Here is what is going on.
In mid-December, a friend of ours (it is my husband's sister's babies daddy!!!) needed someplace to keep his stuff. His roommate had moved in with a girl, leaving this guy (let's call him Pete) high and dry. He was leaving to visit his parents for a while and was supposed to keep his stuff here until he got back, when at that time he would get his own place.
That was in DECEMBER. He is still here. in March, my husband and I came to an agreement that we would let him stay 1 more month to save money for 1st and last months rent, utl, etc. This was up on April 1st. My husband wanted to give him 1 more week. I said we have given him 3-1/2 months to save money, and he has none saved. This guy goes out to bars, comes home at 3 a.m., sleeps until 2 on the weekends, contributes no way to society and, mind you, doesn't pay for ANYTHING to live here. Everyone in a while, I will get $50 from him, but I think that has happened may 3 to 4 times.
Anyway, me and my husband are now separated over this matter. I am in shock. I feel he is basically chosing Pete over his family. We have 2 CHILDREN TOGETHER!!!!! Am I being wrong? I feel this guy is a bad influence on my kids and that I am being taken advantage of. I know I shouldn't have let it go on this long and I have no excuse for that. I love my husband, but if he is not able to kick this guy to the curb, he will be kicking ME to the curb. Any advise?
