Nope. I switched to Firefox months ago and LOVE it. nm

Nope, won't work

Microsoft is really cracking down on things like that. You will have to buy another copy of XP if you want to put it on another computer.

What my husband and I did (we each have a computer) is buy one copy of XP which we installed on both computers, then I bought a second copy on ebay that was still sealed in the package, and used only the code that comes with the software (which is visible thru the clear packaging) for my computer. That way, if and when I decide to upgrade, I can still sell the sealed copy of XP on eBay. I'm sure by that time I won't get as much as I paid for it, but at least I will get some return on my investment.

Just a thought.....

Nope, cause I only work 32 hrs a week.

After 25 years, nope. Just work. But I used to. nm

Yes, but I did not work for almost 6 months during my daughter's chemo -sm
my income drastically tanked from late March through Sept. (I made about $300 a month in that time period), plus I have never worked FT for them (i.e. 90 minutes a day). I am now doing about 75 minutes a day though + an account of my own on the side now, so doing about $2K a month now. So I expect this year to be a bit higher in the income level. Only 1 person works FT for them as far as I know, most people are PT, its all IC so it really does not matter. But there is always work left over every day that wasn't farmed out to somebody to do.....and they are getting new doctors every day which is great I think.
Been trying to find steady MT work for 8 months now, at least
At first, no one would even respond. A few months ago I decided to take ANYTHING from anyone who actually did respond.

I'm used to getting paid 10 cents a line for the past 12 years, but when I did get a bite from a company, I took it, even at 7 cents and 8 cents because at that point I was STARVING and worried about making my house payments and paying my utility bills!

Now do you know what the problem is? All three frickin companies have very little to NO WORK available. This is consistent.

Now, at 7 and 8 cents a line and barely squeezing out any work between three DIFFERENT companies (even though they KNOW I am available to do any and all work they have), I am just about as bad off as I was before finding these jobs.

I know nothing else and have no college education, BUT I do know my job backwards and forwards, research skills, terminology, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology and everything else that goes with being a good, experienced MT.

Do you think I am getting paid for this experience? No. Times are bad right now, but they've been bad for me for many, many months. I just don't know what I'm going to do anymore. I rue the day I went to school for this godawful so-called profession.

Every day wake up, raring to go, hopeful there will be SOME kind of work available, at least to make $80 or $100 a day, AT LEAST.

But every day I end up stressing out, worrying, continuously being broken down because even though I'm a hard worker and a darn good MT, I am treated like low-class scum by my creditors because all my bills are late & I can't pick up the phone anymore due to bill collectors on my back. Believe me, I paid all my bills on time every time when the work was abundant and I WANT to pay my bills, but good intentions don't pay the bills. Neither does little to no work at a lame 7 or 8 cents a line.

I also have little food in the fridge or pantry, and things are beginning to be shut off left and right.

I don't know...

It's just extremely frustrating and stressful. I can't live like this anymore but have no way out.
Nope. If I wanted to work outside the home, it certainly would not
be typing of any sort.
Nope, hard work and have to prove yourself.
Don't get discouraged though, we have all been where you are at...good luck!!
Work some holidays - don't really mind during the winter months, but
when summer rolls around, I am at the beach on the holidays and do not work them. As an IC, we get nothing extra as far as $$ just the extra work.

Can't complain - have plenty of work all of the time.
Nope, I am working exactly the way I always have worked and I always am careful with my work but
lets face it the only way to be certain you are PERFECT is to relisten.
Nope, my computer is owned by the hospital I work for, and does not even

1099 form? I did IC work for an MT company a few months (smsg)

in 2007.  Shouldn't I be receiving a 1099 form from them for tax purposes?  I haven't yet and am wondering if I should contact them.  I paid my quarterlies.  I thought the law was they had until 1/31 to send it.

Nope, happy to be paid 30,000 a yr to work less than 8 hrs a day, in the comfort of my bedroom,

Nope, I don't feel "LUCKY" to be treated like an imbicile by my company. Nope, No way.

$32K/part time 6 months/full time 6 months
I have kept my child home with me half the year, but when pre-K started I began working full time. Helps to only have a main account and one backup account for the 2nd year now, so my abbreviation program rocks and rolls when I focus.
I have been doing VR for 6-7 months.

The system has not improved in that time and it is much more time consuming to edit VR than to transcribe.  I believe the companies are selling VR to the doctors saying it will eventually be perfected and dictation will be done cheaper and quicker.  Right now that is definitely not the case at this point in time.  On the other hand, VR for banking and other services seems to be working well.  I do believe it's the future of transcription but for now it leaves a lot to be desired and is very, very tedious and kind of nerve wracking if you are used to transcribing.

On the other hand, for someone who cannot transcribe but has medical terminology course, you may be able to make some money on VR and I suspect that is exactly what companies have in mind when they push VR.  Eventually all MTs will be replaced by MEs (medical editors) at a lower line rate.  I have seen as low as 4 cpl posted for editing so for someone who wants to work at home, I guess that's good enough especially if you can't transcribe all that well utilizing expanders, etc.

I have been there 5 months and have never (sm)
been happier. They are great!!
Sure! It took me 3 months to get (sm)
good at MT (no formal training, just science background); like you, I sort of fell into it -- was getting divorced and leaving grad school, needed a job, had done transcription at temp jobs, so saw an ad and jumped -- made a grand total of $300 the first month, 10x that after 3 months. There is only one other job I've ever had that kept me as interested as MT -- working as a paralegal doing insurance defense work. I love the challenge of researching a new piece of equipment, I love hearing people's stories, and I adore working at home and avoiding all the politics and other garbage of a worksite. I love working all night when the work is plentiful and breaking my days up how I like. What's not to like?
I like it. I have used it for a few months
and it is very easy to get used to. The only thing I don't like is it doesn't spell check your work until the end, I'd prefer to have it checked as I go along, like in MS Word.
About 2 1/2 months here
My biggest problem is in the evenings. I am so sick that all I want to do is lay down and sleep until it passes. I work two jobs, so I am having the difficulties you are talking about. I am moody, too. This is my first experience with this while being an MT, so I'm right there with you on not knowing what to do. Good luck!
At the very least 6 months
It is absolutely overwhelming in the beginning. Worked in-office and tried to quit my first day after a half hour! How lucky I was to have a patient supervisor and kind co-workers. (Plus good references that actually showed sample reports--so helpful to see what the ''finished product'' should look like.) I hated my former job so I just kept coming back, reading everything available, and taking terminology classes. Maybe I was a ''slow study'' but after around 10 months, things started to make sense.
As a new MT myself, not quite 6 months
on the job yet, I take any and all feedback with a grain of salt. The tone of the e-mail does not bother me as long as useful information is being given. I did not graduate from one of the top 3 schools either, so I appreciate the opportunity to work and learn at the same time. Feedback often makes you feel degraded and dumb to a degree, but let us face it, we are. We are ignorant to the world of MTing. We do not know everything. We learn daily. Once you begin implementing the advice given you will probably find that critical e-mail will lessen. Also, trainers often do not have the time or resources to be "sweet" to everyone they train. Their primary responsibility is to make you the best MT you can possibly be. Learn, grow, and do not take it all to heart. Good luck.
I did for 6 months sm
a loooonnnnngggg time ago when my kids were tiny. I started out pouring the models but had to leave due to babysitter issues. There is very good money to be made there. Based on production but I believe they pay by the hour. Go for it. Not any more boring than MT can be at times. Around here if you can paint the porcelain teeth, the pay is close to $20 an hour.
about 7 months

they have been using it on my account.

it really depends on the voice.

I just learned that "lungs are clear to sedation"
and parentheses do not know if they want to be princesses or impressions.

took over 2 months for me

I worked for them last year.  It took over two months for them to get it together and then I finally had typing to do.  They do not go by their contract.  In it, it says you would have so many (50 maybe?) typings before they got out out of training (which has less pay of course) and it was over 200 and then it was only after I asked about it when they moved me to an actual account.  After that, I worked for about 3 months and every time I would be put on an account and start making decent money, they would switch me to another account and I'd have to start all over getting used to....thus not making money.  I finally resigned and explained why and the owner sent me an email, saying she didn't bother to read my email....but she didn't understand what the problem was....duh...if you had read the email, you might understand.  It was a mess and not worth my time at all.  There were actually hours where I could have made more money at McDonald's.  Oh, and when they fax you back any corrections, they charge for fax time......even when they're having problems with their fax...they charge you the time!!!....they charged me nearly 1/2 hour once because they were having problems with the fax and they were faxing MY work.....just not worth it to me....I'm sticking to my own accounts.

Gee, my 'E' is okay after a few months, it's my

a,c.v.b.k.l. and the period that are worn on this new keyboard.

I wish I would have known about the clear nail polish before I started using this. I would have tried it. I have gone through 3 keyboards in as many years and my first keyboard keys were worn down to nothing.

2 months before they pay you?
I would explain that to them, that this is not ONE month, but it is TWO months before you will see a dime for work done, and that you have MTs that depend on paychecks much more often than that. Ask them if there can't be some kind of negotiation. I really don't see how they are even requesting that set up. NO one pays just every 2 months. If I paid my bills only every two months, I'd be sitting in the dark, for sure. I wish you the best on figuring this out. It's an awful situation for you.
when I was very new, about 2 months ago actually

the doc said to avoid NSAIDs and I typed incense!

nope
I did that for a while, gave QA, my TC everyone my private email and then I got an email and phone call from my TC, no longer would I receive emails from them unless I did it through Imail..and now this new darn system..I dont need this drama in my life, for pete sake, Im just trying to make a paycheck, ya know??
Nope...

not if being paid on production. Questions and blanks go straight to QA. But this could  depend on how much experience you have.

nope

nope! nm

Did someone ask you what you think????? Nope!!!

nope!

Nope

nope
I would just chalk it up to experience and move on. Actually, that is just what I did, or had to do. If I was counting on them to either pass my tests, or offer me a position, I would have starved to death long ago. I had even found THEM work with a small company that was looking for an MTSO to do some of their accounts. I was promised that since I found the positions for them, that I would be one of them to test for the jobs. NEVER happened. They gave the testing and the positions to three others. When I questioned them about it, they told me that they had not even gotten the accounts, even after I learned they had signed the contracts. Consider it a loss, and take it off next year's taxes. That is the only way you will get any compensation back, and a lesson learned. But frankly, I am still bitter. Even though I found some pretty good positions and am doing now what I love. Good Luck.
nope
You would burn them up in no time. I would recommend unlimited services like Vonage or zerocents.com
nope
I would do this if not verbatim

She is a 66-year-old white female, recently transferred to our practive with diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, who I refer, blah blah
Nope, not for you. sm
Sorry. I must have gotten the Florida thing wrong. I thought she also said she was going to Florida, so I'm sorry for having the wrong destination. And I wasn't trying to pick some sort of fight. I was merely posing another opinion/option. There's nothing wrong with not taking the kids on a BUSINESS trip. BTW, thanks for the all-caps on the BUSINESS thing. It didn't come off at all snotty. So, no, my response wasn't meant for you. Thanks for asking, though.
Nope
Gave up holidays years ago and have never regretted it.
nope..
you are mistaken here. type 0-9 in three lines in NotePad and save it as a file. You will see 30 bytes, not KBs.

:)))
Nope.
Been there done that. The online classes are a joke and it is almost completely self study. Wish I had saved my money.
Nope, not to much to ask and we never should

have to!  That said, while I tried all the usuals, nothing got my kids attention as much as no clothes to wear, no clean glasses and their rooms smelling like something died in them.

MOM, where's my jeans?  How should I know, I did'nt wear them, usually led to finding them on the floor under 3 feet of whatever.  They all got the same printed list of how to do's and now they do them well.

nope
the company I'm involved with puts food on the table and pays my bills........I don't exactly call that "gotten to me".....
Nope

Sorry, but it's all hype, and potentially dangerous.  If you research it at medical sites, the phrase perforated colon is usually mentioned!

Nope. You really don't get it, do you? sm
I don't think any amount of explaining is going to make you understand, either. The same thing that was MISSING when you posted seeking medical advice for what could have been an emergency is the same thing that is keeping you from understanding why people are annoyed every time you post anything. Go back. Start at your post and the content of it. Begin at square 1 and read your post and the responses, followed by more of your posts. I have little hope you'll ever get a clue about anything, considering your original post.
nope. www.dol.gov -- they don't have to do that.
it's in their best interest to do that but not required to

Nope!

I surely would not, though there are many things about the job I like; i.e, working at home - making great money.  What I don't like about it is always being tied down to it - can't take days off or vacation - that sort of thing.  But then, there's no job that's perfect, right?

Nope! I just tell her to go lay down, and she goes. nm

Nope, I have never
had any kind of medical terminology course or MT course. I just lucked out. I worked in the billing department for a small hospital and the HIM manager called me up one day out of the blue and offered me a job as a transcriptionist. They trained me and started me out at normal certified salary.
nope, that's not it (sm)
I wish I had my wits about me enough to have thought to snap a picture.  Trying to remember from the quick glimpses I had (at a safe distance).  The harder I try to remember the less I do.  Kinda of like the poster above who said by the end of the week it will grow as she tells the story.  I can still see that tongue flicking at me though.  Ugh.
