OK, I misunderstood. Didn't know there was another way. I'll check out Google Desktop. Thanks.

Google desktop is awesome!
I downloaded it yesterday. Now if I search for some procedures, I do not even have to make a templatey, and try to remember codes or have a list in front of me while working. All I have to do is save such files for reference. I can just type on my desktop search engine the name of the doctor or various phrases (like total knee replacement, or left ventricular lead placement), and in seconds I have a list of all files (not just word doc) containing such words. Awesome!
Google Desktop is convenient, but...
All desktop search software is capable of exposing your hard drive. As far as I know, there is only one desktop search package that maintains this information on your own hard drive only. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of it, but it is not well-known (i.e. they don't have a lot of money to promote themselves). I no longer use any desktop search software on my own computer and I advise my friends to do likewise. It is a convenience, but not worth the risk in my opinion.
Have google open on your desktop but minimize it.
This way you can look it up on a separate window without closing S/C. Also if you forget to minimize it, have an icon of Google (or a medical dictionary site etc.) on the outer perimeter of your desktop so that you can click it with the Bayscribe doc screen up. You should be able to open the medical word site while spell check is open. This always works for me. Good luck! Hope this helps.
I didn't mean to sound touchy. You misunderstood and
whether or not you MEANT to reply to my post, you did. What else was I to think?!

I don't have all the answers but I was quite aware of that information already.

No offense taken by me! Just felt like you misunderstood, that's all!

Just Google pet insurance and you'll get
loads of them.  The one we have right now that was free for a month  is sheltercare.  I think petinsurance.com is a good one.  You can get a basic policy for about 8 or 9 dollars  a month.   The one I want is about 19.95, but if you've ever had a dog or a cat at the vet, the bill can be like highway robbery.  You can get a free online quote, as it depends on the kind of dog you  have, the animal's age, etc.  You can sign up right online.
IF you will google either city you'll get

info as far as population, temperatures, etc.  Charlotte is a big financial center, also called the "Queen" city.   I don't currently live in Raleigh but did for 2 years and we really liked it.   Traffic is a bear, but people are friendly and tons of things to do.  There are 2 major teaching hospitals about 45 minutes away.  Lots of walking trails.    Cary is outside of Raleigh and that is a pretty nice place too.  It isn't quite the hustle and bustle of Raleigh, but is growing rapidly.   I would not live in Durham for anything.   If you've heard about the Duke rape trial you might understand.  Huge racial problems there.

With Charlotte you are close to the SC border.   Charlotte also has lots of traffic.   My sister used to live there and I would visit but don't know much about the social scene there.

No, that's not it. Check Google.

Yes, it is. Check Google.

If you dispute an answer and have the correct answer, then please post a correction instead of just an unjustified negativity.

Won't be installing it for a week but I'll google it. nm

check google, link inside--sm

I check no fewer than 5 websites or 5 google searches
often I go further than that, but I've been doing this a long time and get stumped a heckava lot less than I used to.

I basically search at least 5 different ways and check at least 5 websites before giving up. That's presumably after I've checked my own word books, of course.
If you google "print folder list" you'll find a lot to choose from.
Example: http://no-nonsense-software.com/printfolder/

Google South Beach Diet forum and you'll find a good board there for information. nm

I'll have to check for the red Q...sm
Honestly it doesn't make sense to me that it is allowed at all.  It seems to me that the fair and professional thing for a company and all MTs to do would be to take the oldest jobs first.  I don't understand allowing MTs to not type all reports.  Sure, you bet I could be more productive if all I did was ER reports and could skip all the OR and psych, but someone has to type them.
Thanks! I'll check it out. nm

I'll check with Dept of SS on that and

let you know if it's illegal. My guess is that those restrictions on your income after you retire aren't just put in there to fill blank spaces.  They're there for a reason, and if you thought they were so legal, why are you asking discreetly on this board for suggestions to get around your situation.  If you only wanted info on becoming an IC, you would have just asked for it instead of supplying us with the dirty details.

I apologize if I seem a little offended at your morals.  I certainly wouldn't suggest that you leave your grandchildren in the street, but I would think there are legal ways to solve this situation, and perhaps some of the people on this board wouldn't have gotten so upset had you just asked for suggestions on your situation rather than how to work the system.

Since I didn't get any answers, I'll re-word! sm
I am looking for an LD company that will cover MTs usage. Also, really want to hear from people who have had their service for a considerable period of time without problems.
Sorry I didn't check sooner. Let's try again

If you check the archives you'll find
this same question has been asked numerous times, but basically most have felt it a waste of time and wouldn't recommend them.
Since the poster below didn't really answer your questions, I'll try...
While I agree that things are being done to try to do away with transcription eventually, I think that hope is a long way off. Here goes:

1. A lot of work is being outsourced to places like India because they can do the work much, much cheaper than a US MT. Some hospitals won't all their work to be outsources, but the thought on this board generally seems to be that most don't care or don't know.

2. In order to work at home directly after school, it is highly recommended that you only attend one of the top schools. Two of them are Andrews and M-TEC.

3. Most companies, if you are an employee (not independent contractor) will provide you with all the equipment you need. You will have to have an internet connection and pay for that yourself most likely.

4. I believe the average you can expect to start is in the 6 to 8 cents a line range. How much you make depends on many other things, though. If you studied very hard and have a knack for MT you will do much better.

Hope that helps a little. But just remember...yes, working at home is a nice benefit for some, but there is a con for every pro to doing this.
You'll notice this person didn't sign their name --fishy??? nm
