Yeah, I have a comment
It's called work baby.  Every company has this.  Every job you have to do something you don't like.  My job, not at MQ, I have to take junk, work on other accounts, type bad doctors.  That's what you have to do in this line of work.  It's everywhere not just MQ.  At least you have work.  There are some MTs that havent had work for a long time and have no money coming in.  Have a good attitude and so what if you have to work a little longer to make a little more $.  You have to do that sometimes, it's life.
Some neighbors are child molestors, some neighbors are drug dealers and

those so-called normal people next door are being arrested for drugs and molestation, and other crimes. This ideology of people thinking that low-life scum only living in trailer parks and the like probably have an everyday-average-looking person right next door that they should probably pay more attention to. Won't THEY be surprised when Mr. Smith who waves at them and visits over the fence with them now and again is one of these perpetrators. Think about it people. It has happened and will happen. And it doesn't ONLY HAPPEN to people in trailer parks. JMO.

Well, she could be like my neighbors.
She lets her kids play outside, screaming and running around, until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning because they sleep until noon then watch TV until dinner's over.  Better the kids should be tired and stick to their regular bedtime than be obnoxious little brats running the household with NO parenting or organized activities.
Hello neighbors
I'm from Georgetown - just found this board. Who do you work for?
My neighbors do that. They have

3 dogs in their yard. Dogs stay out all night and barking is never ending. One is a hound dog (who never stops howling) rest are bull dogs and pit bull mix. The fleas in the summer are never ending. They bring their dogs across the street to play in the field daily w/o leashes. They had 4 dogs but last month one dog ran across the street, got hit by a car and died. They blamed the driver of the car and said since she was elderly, they wanted her to get retested for her license since she could have stopped in time. Had nothing to do with the dog being unrestrained or running out in front of the car. I've taken to calling animal control now every time I see them in the field unleashed because they charge anything and everything that is not their owners. They usually take them there to play right when school lets out so it could be a danger to them. Luckily for us we have leash laws here in our city.

File a complaint! Just in case something happens again there is proof that it is a dangerous animal.

tinnitus
There are various things you can try. First talk to your doctor. There are some medications you can try as well.

I've had tinnitus for years (Meniere's Syndrome).

I wish you a lot of luck!
tinnitus
try getting a background noise machine, white noise. it helps with trying to sleep. if you can't afford it try putting your radio not on a channel and just the static at low volume. sometimes this works. decrease aspirin as this causes it also.
tinnitus

Someone in my family went to the dr. this week for a flare-up. She was told to cut out salt and dairy (allergy) and was given a steroid Rx briefly which cut out the flareup within one day. It is awful, especially in this profession. I think the sulfites in wine cause a flare-up as well but wouldn't dare mention that.

Tinnitus
B complex vitamins helped me get rid of tinnitus.
I have tinnitus also, but only
in my left ear. I spoke with my Dr. about it, and unfortunately there isn't really anything you can do about it. I do know that taking a lot of Tylenol or aspirin on a daily basis can contribute to tinnitus. It's very annoying. Having some *white noise* in the background can help at night when you are trying to sleep and everything is quiet. That is when it is the worst for me because everything is so quiet. The tinnitus seems even louder and it makes it hard to get to sleep. Other than that, I don't really have any other suggestions. You may want to mention it to your doctor though next time you see him/her. They may recommend you see an ENT just to make sure there is no underlying problem that could be causing it.
Me, for one... and tinnitus. sm
Don't have the details of my testing in front of me, but I had high frequency loss that bumped me just out of what's considered low normal.

The bigger problem for me is the tinnitus. Drives me up a wall, and has done a number on this former musician's ability to enjoy listening to music. First I get CTS so I can't play my instruments, and then I have tinnitus. Sigh.
Tinnitus

I am going on 37 years as an MT and started having problems with a popping in my ears in 1996. It has improved some in the last year, but I still occasionally have problems and it can be painful. If I tip my head in a certain direction, that will sometimes relieve it. I have found that it will bother me when I lie down too, but stuffing some cotton in my ears helped so I could sleep. Interesting...  :)

tinnitus
I had this a couple of years ago. When my hearing started going, I went to my doctor who found a severe ear infection. I had no pain so didn't seek help before that. After a couple of rounds of antibiotics, I'm fine. I was very religious about cleaning my ears with hydrogen peroxide, Q-Tips, etc before that which might have even set me up for that infection. I resorted to a washcloth only and am back to normal. Good luck with this and hope your problem is no more severe than mine.
I don't, but my neighbors do and all it does is bark

yap, yap, yap, yap all day long.  Enough to drive anyone nuts.  My kids have nicknamed him "Yappy."  A woman I work for also has one and hers yaps all day long too.

So if you don't mind the constant yapping, go for it  They're still awful cute even with their little jaw flapping. :)

where are you located? We might be neighbors!
I live in the Chicago suburbs and a company down the street is owned by a man, and they have a VA account they are hiring for. Just curious if this is for BOS?
Sheesh! We must be neighbors.

How would the city or your neighbors know
you supposedly ran a business out of your home. Do you have employees, a parking lot at your home to have the employees park there, overhead including insurance to cover disability in case 1 of the employees has an accident on the job. First of all, no neighbor of mine knows I have a business (if you want to call it that, I don't) but secondly if someone from the city came by asking questions the answer would be I don't know. In fact I had the city to come by 1 time to inquire about work I had done inside my house, told me they needed to come in and I said no to them. Never heard another word about that. I do not know what kind of work the person on the right or left does, oh I do know 1 lady said she works for IRS and that is that. She might have a zoo in her home for all I know. I would never think about putting myself on the line to say I need license. Bunch of crock.
how do you transcribe with tinnitus?
due to the german measles. I've been transcribing for 15 years. Lately I have crinkle/pop sound in my good ear. I have thought about chronic use of my good ear and think I'll get an audiogram.
Tinnitus/earphones
I too have tinnitus, for years, in my left ear, diagnosed with TMJ. Had audiology test, loss of hearing, to low tones in my left ear, nothing really helps. Doctor and audiologist do believe it is from all of these years of earphones. Some days it is better than other days, but sometimes drives me crazy, with the loud hissing noise. I turn the earphones down, hate loud noise, hurts my left ear. I was thinking of trying something homeopathic soon to help it. Audiologist did advise a booster for the earphones that you plug into the speakers on computer, going to try that also. Hope this info helps you. I have had it about 7 years now, have been a Transcriptionist for 35 years now, so I do believe they are related to each other.
tinnitus and headphone use?
Has anyone had progressive tinnitus during their career while using headphones?  I would like to know if anyone out there has had increasing tinnitus, ear fullness, ear pain, slight loss of hearing, dizziness, or even diagnosed with Meniere's disease during their career?  If so, how are you dealing with it? What precautions are you using now to prevent further damage?  Thanks in advance!
Sitting like this all day is so bad for us. Plus, tinnitus is no fun...(NM)

YOU try having them for neighbors. You might change your tune. nm

If neighbors have DSL, can pick up signal with that same

Exactly! It's just inconsiderate to your neighbors and unfair to do something like that!
People think they're being funny or cute but making your house look like a piece of crap is rude to the neighbors and DOES make their homes worth less than they should be. I agree that they should be forced by law to change it back.
What about your neighbors who work at Walmart?
But I know one thing. I'm shopping for a portable dishwasher. Walmart has undercut Lowes and Home Depot by $100. I'm buying from Walmart. I don't have spare $100 to boycott Walmart. Do you?
The neighbors are having garlic. Just walked

Just gave the neighbors a show
While walking the dog I did my best Jessica Rabbit walk sans the high heels. I noticed the dog walks the same way. Wonder if the neighbors saw me. I'm sure one of them will let me know if they did!
If you have neighbors, trying petitioning the company.
They're going to be more willing to listen when they know more than one home is interested in the service.
I talked with the police about this issue when one of my neighbors
kept trying to befriend my boys. The cop said that 90% of sex offenders are not in the database anyway because they have never been arrested. Those databases create a false sense of security because you think you're safe if nobody is listed in your neighborhood, but you still do not know if someone has the tendency or unreported history of sexual abuse. You have to treat everyone as a suspected child sex offender. They could have been doing it for years but nobody reported it. They could have had a plea bargain and charges reduced or dropped. They could have just never been arrested. We had a recent incident where a guy was driving past the elementary schools and kept trying to grab 11- to 12-year-old boys and force them into his car. The whole city was in an uproar because the police couldn't catch the guy, but he tried three times at three different schools. We suspect he's either moved on to another community or went back into hiding.
Anyone know of a remedy or way to lessen tinnitus?

Hearing loss/tinnitus

I have been a MT for 19 years. I have started having a major problem with tinnitus lately.  I know it is directly related to working because it eases up some after a couple of days off.  At the end of my shift, the ringing much louder and I am very noise sensitive.  Normal "kid" noises (I have 3 of them) are painful, and I find myself very short with my kids and constantly telling them my ears hurt and to please be quieter.

About 6 months ago I starting using JVC marshmallow earbuds like you would use with an IPOD.  These are great because they block out almost all background noise and the sound is crisp and clean. About 5 months ago I started editing VR reports, in which the dictation is greatly speeded up, making the tone of the doctors voices much higher pitched. I keep the volume as low as I possibly can.

Has anyone ever experienced similar problems. I'm really becoming concerned I am doing permanent damage. I welcome any insight and suggestions. I am trying to go back to my "old-fashioned" headset and see if this helps.  Thanks!

Tinnitus and carpal tunnel....
....plus a rotten and distrustful attitude toward the industry. Man, I'm so grateful to be old and retired!
I would get off during a lightening storm. My neighbors equipment got fried. sm
my TV volume got fried during a storm. My company has told all of us that if we fry our computers during a storm, we have to replace them. I can't afford that. I wouldn't risk it.
Yep, I agree 100%. I live in such a rural area, though, that my neighbors, the natives, think I'm
NUTS cause I keep my dogs in the house, and actually still walk them on a leash in my yard.  We all have about 2 - 5 acres minimum each of woods in our neighborhood, and no real dog laws at all! Dogs run at large 24/7, which is no picnic for me with my dogs on leash, either!  And they ALL keep them outdoors, tied up with the chain and the smelly old dog house.  I think they just look at dogs strictly as deterents? Not sure really, come to think of it! Cause even if they were getting robbed, Fido couldn't get off the 6 foot chain! Oh well!  I used to be sad all the time for the plot of the dogs here, but I can't save them all! Only my guys!
I have tinnitus, so I can either listen to people in the background or the "crickets" in my he
:(
Same thing here. I have chronic tinnitus and hear crickets
when it gets really really acute with sinusitis to go with it. People think I am crazy when I tell them I hear crickets but that's what it sounds like.
Oh yes! Cops love it when the neighbors interfere, stand around, gawk. Makes their job
Stay inside. Ask later, if you must.
Say it loud!!
So true, so true.....
Worked in clinic for 30 yrs and have tinnitus. I am used to back ground noise, hard to work

Then for CRYING OUT LOUD.....
Let HIM worry about this.  How and why do you think it's YOUR problem!!   They're paying you to transcribe, not to breast feed/babysit them.  Learn to pull that monkey off your back and put it on the back where it belongs, would you??????????????????  I swear, this is the last air head post I'm ever going to read or respond to on this ridiculous board.
No loud music at all. It is more sm

like soothing music you would get with yoga.  A lot of people like Windsor Pilates.  I personally did not care for them.  I LOVE Denise Austin's pilates DVDs.  I have a couple.  One has a 30-minute workout and then I have one that is Hit the Spot in which the work outs are only 10 minutes.  I will do one of the core or abdomen ones in the a.m. and then do a lower bod one later in the day.

Pilates do wonders for your strength, toning, flexibility.  I have been doing them off and on for years.  If I stop doing them for a few months and come back, I can tell the different in my flexibility and strength in just about 4 work outs.  I do them about 3 times a week.

Just thinking out loud...
I live within walking distance of a hospital and am occasionally curious (like when I'm having an especially bad night transcribing) regarding what kind of jobs are available there, clerical-wise, though I haven't actually checked it out. I worked in house at a now-defunct hospital for 18 years as a transcriber/lab secretary and have been at home now for 12 years transcribing for 2 national companies. I feel woefully out of it regarding what goes on in hospitals these days. I'll have to say I did better overall financially transcribing in-house but frankly will never miss the office atmosphere. Frankly just hoping to hang in there another 10 years till I can retire but realize I'm gonna have to learn some different skill sets no matter what. I do believe my working second shift has always been a smart move, looks to me like way too many people competing for lines during the day. I have almost never run out of work on second shift. Not really interested in coding, either; I do enjoy transcribing. Maybe unit clerk (?) if that job title still exists? Anyway, will have to check this out.
I almost laughed out loud at what he did.
This has happened to me many times before as well. And I am always disgusted. I think that I laughed to myself because in my mind I could hear the belch, nice and juicy, and know how typically disgusting this is of these guys. Uggg. I am sorry for you, and feel for you. But it actually lightened up my day to think that I am not alone in this job. Hope your dictators are better the rest of the day.
OMG! laughed right out loud at this one sm

brand spanking new PA student dictating for the first time this week! (hoo-boy).  I thought I heard her wrong when she said "uncontributory" (I didn't), but I about fell on the floor when she gave me.....wait for it......

"no ee-lik-it drug use"  BWAAAAAAAHHAAAAAA.

Oh, for crying out loud, let it go. nm
........
I have bilateral tinnitus and HATE it. White noise or radio softly on helps get my mind off of it.
