When contacting Linksys, ask about this. They should be able to tell you if that's where the problem is and how to fix it.

how to display header info on dictaphone?

Hi,

I have just started a new job that uses the dictaphone. Is there anyway to get the job information to display in the display window?  I had an account years ago that used the phone as well, and I remember there was a way to program the phone to display this information, but I cannot remember how to do it and cannot find this information anywhere!  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think the letter, not the packet, the packet comes later

thanks for the info, pls see message, more ?'s
does this also apply to a by-owner sale? We do not have a mortgage company, as it was.  We bought the house from an individual, who holds the note, and we send the payments to.  This is the main reason I am worried.  Does he have to follow the same protocol as a true mortgage company?
It depends on font size, line length, margin size, etc.
There are too many variables.

About the MQ packet...
What exactly is supposed to be IN this packet? What kind of information? I've heard about it for what seems like decades, but what is it about? Any specifics would be appreciated...
what's a packet?
both firewalls I have are off (McAfee and Windows).  What's a packet and how do I check that? :)

Did your computer come with a packet of additional
software?   I have an HP computer, about 4 years old, that came with several disks of extras, one of which was WORD 2000.
the MQ changes letter, phone call and now packet
got a bomb in it.
I feel your pain. I just received packet SM
in mail from AARP, where basic major medical was quoted for $250 a month with $4500.00 a year out of pocket. That is fine, but what will it be next year? I have six years to go until retirement.
Try Packet 8 - Unlimited long distance phone - flat 22.05 per month.

header/footer
Its the info that goes into the top or bottom of a page.  One doctor that I type for has me put the info in (Type of report, pt's name, date seen, etc). into the header/footer.  I click on "insert header/footer" and put the info in.  That info becomes "ghosted."  Hope this helps.
Does it count as a header if (sm)

there is a

already on the page?

Put the logo in a header.

As for the information down the side, use a Text Box. Details would vary based on what you want that text to look like. Be sure to make it the full length of the page and remove the border around the box (either double click or right mouse click on the box and choose format text box. Play around with the Layout to get the text to align how and where you want it to go.

The one thing I'm not sure about is how your line counting program works and whether it will ignore whatever is in the text box. (You should be able to get it to ignore the header/footer info.) However, my feeling on this is if you did the work to get  it set up, then every time you use this template, you should be compensated the pennies that counting those lines that would be counted.

P.S. You should be able to just double click on the header.

why need see if you can make a header on your paper sm
to put their preprinted info on there rather than having to worry about a new printer, different type papers, etc. this sounds like it would solve all if agreed upon and aren't that hard to set up in word. then you could have that set in your template when you pull open your work.
Might even want to do the letterhead into your transcription as a header...
unless he wants fancy embossed or something. See, there's something new you can offer him!
Can someone explain a header and footer..nm
/
Either create it in the header section of

page set up or use a hard return after it and a page break at the end. Center text below the hard return but above the page break and leave a regular line at the bottom of the page.  I would then copy it and paste it however many times I needed a report for then go back to the first and start filling in.

Hope this helps.

my header is in a table and want it to list in
format in document. So my header is in table format but my document has headings can you do this that it automatically fills them in for you or do you have to do each one singly?
Header infor difficulties
I've been on this account that I have for over 1-1/2 years and the rules they keep a changing.  I'd been going back and forth regarding date of service versus date of discharge and finally this week got an explanation that actually makes a modicum of sense so hopefully now I'm doing it right according to new rules.  Doing headers/pt info is sometimes the hardest part because accounts are so picky and they're always changing.  Don't stress too hard about it.  Five reports a day doesn't give you much exposure to it either.  Practice makes perfect and all that.  Good luck!
Shouldn't standard material like this be in a header anyway?sm
I mean it sounds like it is their letterhead, and you're not typing it anyway...Originally it should have been in the header where it would not have been included in the line count. But since it didn't start that way, you better just keep quiet about it. It's only 36c a page anyway.
If the names are in the header they won't be counted by Word. nm
xx
they probably are taking off for the header/footer and maybe spaces.
i would ask them.  My company knocks off about 5 lines a page for the header/footer.
Can someone tell me how to set Word so that header stays in view on the report? nm

Hmm..patient information, name of facility, etc. on top of page is a header. Stuff on bottom like ph

Venting-why do people keep putting nm and THEN writing a message?? nm means no message - sm
Please put sm if you have a message and NM if there is no message other than your subject line.  It makes it easier when reading these messages.  thanks so much and have a nice day everyone.

Trying It On For Size...

I've been transcribing for nearly 10 years, so I'm no longer considered a *newbie,* but there are still a few things I don't know about, so I'm hitting this board to see if anyone can offer up some advice...

Does anyone out there work for more than one company as an independent contractor?

I already hold one IC position and I am considering taking on a couple of more.  I have to commit to a certain amount of lines for each, but no set schedule.  They all are paying the same primo-rate with no incentive scale, so it doesn't pay extra to put all my lines in with one company.

You might ask, *Why don't you just increase how much you are working with your first company?*  Well, my answer is that I don't like having a primary and then having my backup account constantly changing in order to provide me with work.  I am thinking that it would work better to work for a couple of different places, each giving me just one primary account (and yes, there are still companies who do that!), and then just sign off of one and onto another when the first one runs out of work...

In my mind, this works out beautifully, but since I have never done it before, I'm hoping to get some pointers for those of you who have.

font size
When paid by cpl, does it affect your line count if you type in a size 10 or size 12 font?
I had no idea there was such a size either.LOL

Just out of curiosity, does anybody know how far into the alphabet the breast size goes?

I have a 7 y.o. boy who wears that same size.
He has a 16" and it's a bit small for him. I'd get the 20" so your sponsor boy can grow into it. They can always put the seat way down low if he doesn't already know how to ride without training wheels. Better to be able to grow into it than have to replace it 6 months later.
Does that help shrink it's overall size as well?
.
Font size
I have an account and they did not indicate a font size - I know that it makes a big difference the more that you have bolded in a report - what would be a reasonable font size or the standard font size to use?
Font size
I have read with interest the thread on font size.  Now I know why one company allows you to transcribe in one font and then it gets printed in another - which is much smaller - which does make it harder to get your lines.  I thought that it was me - but could not understand until I saw what was getting printed and counted, as to why it was so difficult to get a good line count when I had always done so in the past.  Is this not in some way misrepresentation?  You see what looks like a nice report and then when it gets printed it is so small that you can hardly read it - this also messes with the end of your lines and sentences - where if you make a hard page break on what is on your computer screen it comes up as something different on the copied version on the other side.  All of the info offered was good and this is a good point to make when looking at work - especially if you are new and do not know anything different.
What size is your monitor?

Just wondering what everyone uses.  I use a 17 inch but would like a 19 or 21.  I like mine big, but my mom who is also an MT says when the monitor is too big it slows down her production because her eyes have to travel further back and forth to read what she is typing.  LOL  Everyone is different.  I've seen these huge monitors at the computer stores lately, widescreen, like 30 inches, and they look pretty cool.  So...what size monitor does everyone use or would like to use?  Thanks!

font size
If you are counting by dividing characters by 65 characters, no matter what font you use it will be the same. However if you count by gross line -- line charge no matter how many words on a line you will lose money.   But if it is by by every 65 characgers (including spaces) you could use an 8, 9 or 12 font and the charge will all be the same.
Hospital bed size HELP!
Is there somewhere to find out hospital sizes. I am applying for a new job and need to know the sizes of the hospital I have typed for. I am not aware of where I can find this information. Is there a site or database somewhere. Thanks!
font size
Every place I've ever worked or worked for has a default font. You can have text on your screen set at newspaper headline size (like my MT friend who has macular degeneration) and it'll usually default to their 11- or 12-pt font. I'm sure every hospital or MTSO's software specs are different, though.
font size
I think you just go under view and change the text size to whatever you want it to be.
what is your font size set at??
The zoom feature will not affect the size of the printing font, but the font size will. Make sure it is at least 12.
It could be the size of your file.

If I understand you correctly, you have one word document that contains 50 (patient) files? That alone could be the problem, although your hard drive may also be getting full and slowing things down. Check the properties of your hard drive; do a disk cleanup if it appears to be full. Another option may be to reduce the size of your document, maybe splitting it by DOS or patient name.

screen size

Does anyone know how to change the size of your screen size so the text will larger.  I saw this a couple weeks ago on how to do it and forget to write it down.  I know it was either alt or control and some other key.

Thanks!!

Size of monitor

What size of monitor are you using??? I am seriously considering buying a new one and would appreciate input as to what people have, including brand suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

size does matter!
Is this fact or opinion? INC. is usually a larger business. The reason for that is because INC. means they can be a public company, have shareholders or venture capital, while an LLC is usually a small or one-owner business, an individual who wants to protect their personal assets from business concerns. You may see INC more often simply because of the size, giving them more public exposure, but doesn't mean they are outside of the US.
Font size
When I highlight the text it is in the font size I want, but when I insert the autotext it makes the font smaller.
