This doc keeps blowing wind/nose hairs/boogers out his nose - into the microsphone - and

sounds cool, huh?

I am physically nauseated!  3 hours of this.   gag

Add to that he can't say *our* alphabet so even though the hospital THINKS the docs are spelling the names, he wasted his time and mine. and when I get it wrong -- until I get the hospital to listen --- they will think I'm the *blank* one. (the board stopped me from posting/ said stup*d is not allowed here so you know what I'm saying - isn't that odd, I can't refer to my own self as that, hmmm)

He can't say NUMBERS.  Getting the drug doses is a joke.  Even the names of the drugs is like mystery science.

He says wrong months, days of the week.  If he's meaning to say May, he may say April.

If he's meaning to say 17 he may say 15.

You can hear the disdain in his voice when he dictates on women - I guess in his world there truly is no respect for women and you can really hear it when he's doing the dictation.

But the constant blowing - and clearing his throat - trying to dislodge that tickling nose hair I guess and slurping that yucky saliva has me just about ready to quit transcribing RIGHT NOW.  .

Today I did make myself a promise.  I have been a good girl for 30+ years, held my anger deep in my ugly Wal-Mart pocketbooks.  When I retire in January and I know I will never have to turn on another computer or transcribe another medical dictation............I'm gonna go to the hospital ......maybe go sit in on GRAND ROUNDS FOR THE LAST TIME.......and BLAST THEM.  I'll do it or bust a gasket.  Just watch me.

Our Meditech connects through a Citrix server, and kicks us off, freezes up, doesn't allow log on

If the system has a lot of users on, then it lags. You hit the keys but the letters don't appear right away. Try doing the backspace key with that. It does not have a word Expander and only certain ones will work with it. ShortHand does but some of the others do not.  It has archaic functions. The patient demographics are entered separately from the body of the report, so you don't get paid for those lines. It takes multiple key strokes to make font changes, etc.

But other than that, it is fine                         LOL

Breathing exercise
I think I read this somewhere a long time ago, but it has always worked for me.

Inhale to the count of 3, hold it to the count of 3, exhale to the count of 3. You can gradually increase the counts.

What happens is you get focused on counting and breathing and eventually conk out.
QA is not breathing down MY neck, as I am only the--sm
transcriptionist with a small MTSO, but they may be breathing down the MTSOs neck. All I know is that one doctor in particular, a felon on top of that, has his office QA each report for errors and for line count. If he feels the line count is in error, he demands a return of funds charged...not from me personally, but from the MTSO. My MTSO also has another account that discovered that their transcription company was charging for lines not typed, i.e. ALL lines, and fired them for it. So they DO check. Even doctors do not want to get ripped off. The OP can charge whatever she likes. Maybe 11 cpl in her area is the going rate. That is not for anyone else to decide, but she must be honest above all, or she won't have ANY account for long.
Try breathing into a paper bag to stop the hyperventilation. sm
Like a paper lunch bag.  That is what the ER doc had me do years ago ago when I was hyperventilating (if you are sure that is what you are doing and not something else).
every living breathing being has a soul and killing --
is wrong no matter if human or animal. by your conception of things, then if you have the flu and are causing an epidemic, we should do away with you too, to protect the rest of us??
I worry for those with health problems from breathing in
the dust from ground zero.  Workers breathed in a combination of asbestos, pulverized concrete, jet fuel, and many other toxins, etc. They have fibers in their lungs and many people are spitting up black soot like material.  The sad thing is that health insurance companies are refusing to pay the claims! That is just WRONG considering that these men and women combed for hours and days looking for anyone who might have been alive.  Does anyone else besides me have a big problem with this?
Chief complaint: Breathing. (just had to share that with you all--nm)

you hit it right on the nose. I was sm
doing MT when AAMT came to be. I remember at the time, they would "grandfather" you in if you had five years experience (I had only three I think) in any kind of transcription. There were folks being "certified" who had done nothing but radiology or pathology their whole careers. I haven't been in AAMT for years but don't they now have certification for just radiology separately or something? Anyway, these folks were going around with the "certified" stamp and could not do one iota of acute care transcription. I took the test to be certified. Kept the certification for about 12 years and dumped it. All it is, is a money making venture to benefit AAMT. They do nothing for MTs far as I am concerned. As far as hiring a "CMT" I would take a more experienced MT w/o certification before I would take someone with less experience with certification. I think AAMT needs to be buried too!

BLOW YOUR NOSE....PLEASE!!
I am about to lose my mind.  If this dictator could just blow her nose and stop sucking snot.  Can't help having a cold, but even my children would BLOW THEIR NOSE.  Then maybe she could stop choking on phlegm.  A little consideration, PLEASE!
Oh I have one of those too. I just want to say BLOW YOUR NOSE!!!

employee.  There are no such thing as raises in this industry.  It just doesn't happen.  Meanwhile, my husband's employer (not MT) told the managers not to expect a bonus this year.  So, it is not just this industry.

The American dream is to own your own company; be your own boss.  Why let the rates stand in your way?  If you are as good as you say you are, then you would find a way to have benefits and also make a decent living.  You don't need an employee position to do that.  Many people own businesses and still have health insurance.  It is out there for the taking.  Even as an employee you have to pay for your benefits.  No employer is going to give them away.

It is a shame you were underbid, but this happens every day in this profession, i.e., offshoring...

I don’t brown nose anyone as I am not in charge
of how to tell physicians to dictate, just handle my end. I only wish, though.
I hate the ones that suck their snot up through their nose! UGH!...NM

Maybe you should both get your nose out of the bible and live the life He gave you...

I just opened the post regarding Jen having an ugly nose and there was the OSi ad. No hunt here. I
the post about Jen's ugly nose lol

I guess they are enjoying their ad campaign on here though trying to drive the moderators nuts
Blowing nose, sniffing, hacking, spitting,,yuk!

I transcribed a doc and I swear he was sick all the time.  Really gross.

Go to Google and type in Career Step and Andrews School.  These are the two best.  Most companies will hire grads from these schools right out of training.  Good luck to you!

She fell directly on to/onto her buttocks and since that time has been experiencing lower back pain.

I was hired by MQ to work at home.  It took four months for me to complete the program.  I passed MQ's test and was hired as a regular employee, not a trainee or intern.  They were confident I could do the job based on my test scores and previous nonmedical work experience.
Do they have both? (see inside)
I'm an SE with them. Yep, I have a schedule but it's compacted into 3 days. I'm allowed to work all I want past my line requirement. Usually, I do get on at the end of the payperiod to see what extra dollars I can get on my check. I was encouraged to do that.

My prod sup said that they especially have so many people who won't pull their schedules and won't cover weekends that she'd never deny me work.

Didn't know they had ICs as well. Thought SEs like me were the only ICs MQ had.

Learned something new!

This has all the dictionaries if you are in doubt of a word. One of the best sources around. Also includes medical dictionaries too, though arousable is not one I would look in the medical dictionary for as it can be verified in Webster's or any of the other good dictionaries.

Hi! See inside

I think you can make more money on clinic notes as they are easier...even though you usually get less per line, you can usually pump out the lines quicker.  There was a recent discussion on the hosp/clinic board about this.  Here is the addy, but I'll add the link below too.

Decent pay but the worst accounts ever to work on!   If you have EXCELLENT ESL experience you will do okay.

Some accounts use wav pedal, some use C-phone. You can probably rent either from them if you don't have one. You use your own computer.
See inside.

It was from Jan. 3rd.  It read:

It is so easy to convince yourself you cannot make as much money at a different company  or on a different account, or never find anything better, so you stay where you are, taking all the abuse in the world.  In management, this is called the Golden Handcuff, and they rely on it to keep the same employees, never give a raise, never give respect, and just continue to walk all over you.

In this profession you are very mobile if you can transcribe at all.  It may take a month to get used to a new system, a new account, or whatever, but your self respect is worth it in the end.  There are a lot of companies out there that actually do appreciate employees, and it certainly does not seem to be any of the companies who are mentioned frequently on these boards.

I changed jobs about a month ago, thought I would never learn, but in a week I was making far more with a small MTSO than I ever did with a large company.  Treat yourself to a new beginning and a new year.

Hope this helps.

I am saying that this horrible thing could have been prevented.  My sister woke up in the morning to her partially eaten chickens (whch are actually her pets) because the coyotes got to them.  She called feed stores and even the county to find a way to solve the problem.  Somewhere along the way someone gave her the following idea.  Her husband and some friends dug down a couple feet into the ground and put plywood straight down into the ground around the chicken coop.  This has worked 100%.

I am saying that if this was the first time her dogs had gotten out, there would've been no fault to her.  But, since this wasn't the first time she could have fixed the problem.  Worst case scenerio she could have a pen for the dogs to keep them in.

I hesitated in even responding because I knew I would get the reaction you gave, but if this could prevent her other dog from being a victim it is worth it (or any other dog for that matter).

My heart breaks for her.

I envisioned renting a studio in the little town near by. My radiology job I have now is with a national and I am making about 50G together with the PT job but...PAC system has just been installed and VR is being introduced. Imaging facilities are facing cuts in Medicare patients (20% of business) so I know they will look at transcription for cuts.

I am still contemplating this. They need 13 and so I think I have a few months to consider this. Am in Visalia.

Yes, the atmosphere is a consideration as well. Where are you working if I may ask?

For you to send e-mail to another poster, they must have filled out the e-mail section in posting. You would click on "Reply By E-Mail" and send your e-mail.

If you want to receive e-mail, do as you have done so that the "Reply By E-Mail" option is available.

If you have any questions, let me know and I'll help you.

If you are starting a thread: Enter your e-mail address in the e-mail field and then check the box that says "Notify me on above e-mail address if someone replies to my post".

If you are replying to a post and want to be notified of further replies, do not use "Post QUICK reply". Instead, scroll down a little further and click on the button that says "Post a reply to this message", and follow the same steps as for starting a thread.

I thought I was on the right track. I'd still like to have some more opinions.

It isn't my child. It is my sister-in-law's child. But even after that the office staff seemed happy to hear from her.

To reiterate, for you to stop by this morning to introduce herself and leave some work samples and a business card (she doesn't have any brochures) would be totally appropriate in your opinion, right?

Thanks again.

Check out www.obesityhelp.com there is a ton of information.

Weight loss is usually less with the lap band than with the bypass. It is most successful for those with less than 100 pounds to lose.

I have one and I love it. Here is the Microsoft link for it, but you can find it cheaper other places (including brand new on ebay):

I worked with EditScript and tried using the same thing you did and it didn't work for me. I had a new computer without a 9-pin port, so I just returned the USB adapter and went and bought a 9-pin serial port and that worked great for me.

I say leave it alone. QA is not your job, and in all likelihood, the QA people would not take kindly to your pointing out other MTs' mistakes.

As well intentioned as you may be, believe me, don't do it.

My son is a full-time college student without a car, so it's not practical for him to have a job. Besides doing the lawn and the trash, he works for me by doing all laundry and dishes and I pay him $20 a week so he has a little spending money, plus it gives me more time to work since I don't have to do laundry or dishes!
