If you so a search on this board you'll find lots of info.

Basically, you've got it right. However, voice files can be large and email may reject large file attachments. Also, there's the security aspect that you didn't mention. Basically, the voice file and finished document need to be encrypted to be secure.

You said you don't have the time/didn't take the time to do the research. Lots of people have and have shared their findings time and again on this board. I, for one, am not willing to reinvent the wheel every time someone is looking for this information but doesn't want to take the time to do the legwork. No offense meant but please do take the time to educate yourself. If you really don't have the time or don't want to take that time, then be prepared to pay for that information in the form of a consultant.

Do an archive search on this board and you'll find lots of info. NM

Yes, click on the New MT/Student board over on your left (sm)
on the first page there are a couple of threads about schools you might read through and if you still have questions, post over on that board and you will probably get a better response.
I hope that student doesn't read this board. sm

I don't think this was a good place to look for a laugh at a student's expense, even though I suspect you weren't intending to be mean or condescending. We were all there once.

After 30 years in this business, much of it in QA and QA management, I've gone back to transcription and I am still learning things from my QA people. Humiliating at times, yes! But its all a learning process.

yes, those jobs are out there, but you really need to search for them.
Takes a lot of time and energy to find, but they are around.
Many companies pay 10 cpl or better. You just need to do the leg work and search.
You will find they do exist.
MDI Maryland pays 10 cpl as SE, Precyse offered me 10.5 cpl as employee, JLG pays 10 cpl if not higher, Get Back Jack Productions is 10 cpl and 11 cpl on the weekends, Even Transcend pays 10 cpl if you negotiate for it.

There are many more out there.

Good luck!

Look for "Snow Bunny" and read everything you can that pertains to "voice recognition," VR (voice recognition), SR (speech recognition), or "Dragon NaturallySpeaking.: If you still have questions after that, I'll answer what I can.

If I remember correctly, this company has a habit of not paying.
Search for her name on this board s/m
I would do a search with her name on this board.  If I remember correctly, she is known for nonpayment, please double check before getting involved.
If co is Trans*m stay away! Do search for co info before making a decision about unpaid training

Info on these jobs
I'm no expert, and I don't know extensively about these jobs, but I did look into them and did some research. The closed-caption type jobs are very difficult to get into. It is a very closed field. You almost have to know somebody in order to get in. The reason for this is because those jobs are usually done by court reports on the side, or ex-court reports. Closed captioning requires learning certain software programs, and can include the steno-type machine court reports use. Other technology is also used. Many closed-captioning jobs are real-time. So you have to be very fast, quickly, and quite experienced to operate the machinery and should be able to minimize your mistakes. I too wonder about those closed captioners who make a lot of mistakes when I see them.

Court reporting takes about four years plus before you are very proficient at the speeds you need. It is a very stressful job, and from what I was told, the ideal job is to work for the courts, but those jobs are difficult to get. Many court reports free lance, and can do quite well doing depositions and such.
Search company board. sm
Apparently they outsource and have been banned from posting here. Lots of bad reviews, too.

Info on using 2 computers to separate jobs

Does anyone else use 2 computers to work different jobs? I'm having conflicts between 2 companies so decided to buy another computer to separate the them. I  plan to use my monitor and cable on this computer too.

I  was told by the one company that I cannot use a router. Does anyone know why? I'm not very computer literate anymore so... how else can this be done?

I certainly don't relish the thought of unplugging and plugging my monitor and cable every day and definitely do not want the expense of another cable line. I am not reimbursed for my cable or equipment by either company. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Search the archives and check the Company board

I agree, getting ready to search out another transcription board
as this one has completely gone to the dogs, rarely does anyone go to the other boards that we are constantly being directed to, that is why the main board was so much fun, now it seems there is a place for everything but not here, I will probably be mosing on too. See ya
Company Board, go down to MTstar Search Box (not Google)

Inquiries about companies, jobs, etc. (PLEASE READ)

Please ask about specific companies. If you are looking for a job, see the Job Seekers board. There are literally hundreds of job advertisements. Each one is very descriptive and each one has contact information. Please research for yourself. Ask about companies by name but research for yourself.

If you wish, we have a free resume bank for you to post your resume on.

Please do not post asking for good companies or companies that only do certain types of work: Look at the job ads on the Job Seekers board. This information is all provided there. If you have problems or issues, please let me know via email.

That's a good question for the Company board or search the archives.

Does anyone find the search feature on this board doesn't work right?
I can't ever seem to find the old posts that I know are there by using the search feature.  Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?
It's MDI in Maryland. Plenty of posts on a Company board search. nm

You idiot, there are plenty of jobs with companies that DON'T offshore. Go somewhere else and

quit your raggin on this board.

Anyone want to share what companies allows cherry pickers? I am in between jobs and looking ..
I do not want to work for a company that allows that..
Yes, companies do read here. It's a wealth of info
Especially when some use the same name at all message boards or even in their email address. Certainly helps to weed out the resumes.
Need info or true ULD companies. I've
not paid attention to past posts because I never thought I'd need it.  Have chance for a position, but need ULD  - like now.   I'm on the east coast.  I have DSL and my ISP is Earthlink.  They have something called truvoice where it looks like I can get true ULD, but because I have DSL I still have to maintain my land line.   Not sure if I could use DSL, phone, and tru voice all at the same time.
Whatcha wanna bet these not so long lived jobs are the same few companies?
:P
there's more info on how MTs feel about their companies than recipes/fav songs.
Besides I wouldn't come to this board to learn what some cranky MTs favorite song is. I'm here to dish the dirt about the companies who control the MTs.
Lots of recent posts if you do a Company Board search. Good luck! nm
.
If you search the posts, I think the Company board, you will find that the monies paid to AAMT

for CMT/RMT cerifications are being used to offer "India" rates to workers in India to test for their CMT/RMT cerifications. I REFUSE TO BELONG TO SAID ORGANIZATION AND I WILL NOT CONTRIBUTE MY HARD-EARNED FUNDS TO HELPING INDIANS GET CREDENTIALED.

I look at the jobs board too...
just because I am bored.  The sad thing is the number of jobs seems to have decreased and it seems to be the same rotten places advertising for MTs over and over.  Most of these I have already been hired by and can understand why they have to keep a permanent job posting here ... they just plain suck!  If you are actually looking for a job, are an MT with some experience and willing to put up with a lot of crap you can probably get hired by one of these places as most have to hire 100 MTs to find one who will stay!  Good luck!
