Hello, I am seeking a full-time MT job from home (in Canada). I want to work for a great company that pays well. I also want my computer and all required supplies paid by the company. I will pay for high speed internet!! Where I reside, we have fibreoptic telephone lines - therefore it is the best place to do medical transcription, the quickest speed of voice data and the clearest in north america!! We also rarely have storms here! I live in New Brunswick, 1 hour for calais, Maine.
I have 5+ years of experience and I am also a coder trained in Toronto. HOpe to hear from you soon. Thanks!

Home-based Pathology
Does anyone out there type for a Pathology Dept. or a medical examiner in the privacy of their own home? I saw a message where one gal said she worked for a hospital Path. Dept. from her home which included benefits, etc. I cannot find her message now, and am wondering if she is still out there and would answer my message. Former MQ here. I finally got a home-based hospital job.
Less flexibility, as in having to work set shifts, but the pay is great and I have all the great benefits. I know there are so few hospitals that have their own department, but if you're in a populated area and can find a job, it will TOTALLY renew your opinion of this job. It has for me.

need advice /home-based hospital job
 I was offered a home-based MT job as a direct employee of the hospital with an extremely good per-line-rate. But yes, apparently it was too good to be true! Apparently on further consideration, the administrator now says it is too costly (technically) for home set-up; mentioned something about the Lanier DVI desktop and how costly etc. etc. and some other MT has the license (?what's that about?); also mentioned "Cquence" transcription software program. They presently already have 5 other off-site MTs. Anybody out there with opinions and/or constructive advice...please.  Thanks in advance.

Line-based vs. hour-based requirement
Hospitals do have an hourly requirement, and generally incentive after a certain line level. MQ only has a line based requirement, which is 12,000 per pay period. The hourly requirement is strange, unless they now plan to convert to an hourly pay plan?

Could anyone tell me anything about MDI on their Meditech Radiology Accounts? I would like to hear from anyone who is currently or have been previously employed with this company. Specifically concerning their line counting, is this calculated by Meditech or some other method? How accurate do you feel their method is and if you could maybe give me an average estimate on daily line counts you have experienced. Also anything you can tell me about the work flow for the weekends. Does it easily run out? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

I need some advice on applying for jobs. I have 8 years acute experience but have never worked for an online company. I have my own computer, and am willing to add any programs, buy the books, whatever. I am fairly firm about not working Sundays or graveyard, but all the rest of the week is fine. I want to quit this in-house job and go home. I have applied to 6 companies; one likes me but said they have no work which I am taking as a nice brush-off - I aced everything - I aced all the written tests, flunked the first company's transcription test, but now I either don't get that far or I pass the trans test. I am knocking myself out, leaving this in-house job nightly and spending at leats 2 more hours on the compuer applying. What is it? ARe there any tips? Is it that I've never worked from home? Please help me just a little if you can. I'm losing my self-confidence.

That's right, MQ has finally really, really gotten to me after eight long years! I have told and told and told myself that it's okay there are major lawsuits against the company that imply terrible wrongdoing, it is okay that MQ seems to change CEOs every few months, it is okay that I haven't had a raise in two years, it is okay that I do a brilliant job without anyone caring... and finally, finally, it is just not okay. I am talking to Medware who apparently won Employer of the Year in 2002 and 2005. Can I get a witness? Anybody work for them? What about Spheris? Flexibility of schedule is utterly crucial to me, and I have to have benefits, so no IC work. Where can I go where they'll appreciate me? I'm a former high school English teacher with 15 years as an MT (8 in acute care) and some QA experience. Help???

There don't seem to be any large companies like in the States. It seems most jobs are in-house with the hospitals. I consider myself very lucky to have found steady work at home with a Canadian company.

Hi Molly - I'm currently taking the Canscribe course and it is excellent. From everything that I've read they are the best school in Canada. I would certainly look into it further. The course is very thorough, well layed out and very user friendly! I'm pretty sure employers are happy to hire Canscribe graduates.

So, the issue is because all the MDs in Canada left and came to the USA because they did not agree with the government run health care?
So if USA goes to the same thing, where will all the MDs run to? Don't they have the same thing in Europe, too?
I just don't understand. Will they all leave the profession? It is because they want more money than the government will pay?
It just all does not make sense to me. Reading this, I am more apt to blame the doctors than the government. They are the ones protesting the system and running away, all because they want more money.
Please tell me if I am understanding this wrong.
Maybe at the very least, we will get younger doctors getting into medicine for the right reasons and not so much for the big paycheck.
But I am probably understanding this whole thing wrong.

surgery....would have actually died if he had waited for the doc's in Canada to operate (obstructing adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder)...he'd been told he would have to wait 3-4 weeks to even get it dealt with in Canada...so it had the brains to come here to get it done....granted he's fighting with Canadian insurance now but at least he is alive.

I will take canada's health care in a nanosecond
Well, I gotta tell ya, I would love to have Canada's health care, as I dont have health care..You see, if you are an SE, MQ does not offer health care. So, universal health care through the govt, IMHO, is better than paying out of my pocket.
My experience was the opposite living in Canada.
I found their schoolwork to be remedial compared to what I learned in the U.S. In Canada, they used to have me work in the library and clean the teachers' lounge because the work didn't challenge me. In the U.S., I was able to take advanced and college prep classes so I didn't get bored with school.
