How to indent on Microsoft Works
This may seem like a simple question but it has me stumped. I started a new job recently using Microsoft Works. My last job of many years used WP. My question is how to indent. Some doctors use outline format on the diagnoses. Right now, I have to enter and space over because I can't get the next line to scroll the correct margin. I hope I am explaining this correctly!  Hitting tab will indent the first line but then the next lines scroll to the left-hand margin. I have tried everything I can think of and it must be something easy.  I MISS WORD PERFECT!!  Can someone help?  Thanks!
number indent on Word
I have problems with the automatic numbering, but maybe this is what you are looking for.  If I am numbering on the left margin, I do 1. then tab and write what I want.  To get the next line to indent, when the sentence has wrapped around, just do ctrl-T, and it will automatically indent under the text on the line above.
Ibuprofen, 3 tabs every 4 to 6 sm
hours with food, faithfully for a few days. You may need a short oral steroid pack to calm things down. Cranky Beach is right about keeping your wrists absolutely straight. Try raising your chair or sitting on a big book. Use a chair without arm rests. The problem most likely is in your elbow or shoulder and not just your wrist. I spent a lot of time with neurologists, orthopedists, and physical therapy. I finally went to a chiropractor who did a few manipulations and taught me some stretching exercises which helped a lot. I go once a month and lay on a nice heated roller bed. I have bad insurance and the chiro. just charges me a flat rate. My sympathies go out to you.
how to indent numbers in microsoft word

I have forgotten how to make it indent the numbers automatically in Microsoft Word.  Help from anyone.  Thanks in advance

on ExText numbering, and subheadings w/indent
after going in and setting up for numbers what I have to do and I have found no other way.

when doctor saysS1. then subset A:
1. Hyperlipidemia.
A.
B.
2. Hypertension.
3.
what you have to do is type 1. what you want afterward (hyperlipidemia), hit enter, you will get 2 lined up under 1., back up, delete it, space to under the h, type A. xxxx, enter, it will put a b under a, then if he say number 2, enter, it will type a c, back space through it and line up under 1 for the #2, type what he says (hyperlipidemia), enter and it will type 3 under the 2.

that is the only way I have found to have the indented numbers and subheadings.

Sorry no more help, but when you get used to it it gets faster. If someone has an easier way I am all ears.
And some places DO keep tabs on who keeps rejecting jobs. Best to just do what comes along.

Personally I don't charge for tabs and hard returns - sm
but then again it would not make a big difference for me. I just went over my last invoice and re-did it including spaces, tabs and hard returns, my invoice went up a whole $1.70. I will live w/o the extra $3.40 a month. On another point, I try not to put 2 spaces after my last period of each report (mine are just single block paragraphs on each patient) so I don't "pad" the invoice that way either. Now if I did a lot of reports with tabs and returns then I probably would bill for them, as it is a keystroke. As for how to phrase it, I thought you have already put it quite well, but I think asking for a cent raise might be too much, .005 would probably more than compensate you for your "loss" if you don't count the tabs/returns anymore. Run an invoice and see what the $$$ would be with .005 and .01 raises. Good luck.
Look through the Help section in it and just start opening up all the tabs and playing

I think if you are hanging out in a bar
You are looking for more than a chance to "relax".  Most bars are a place to meet people if that's what you are looking to do.
Hanging monitor
I heard about monitors that you can hang sideways, which helps you see the full page at once instead of having to scroll down. Apparently the monitor has a setting to change the image to sideways or something. Could improve your efficiency. That's what I'd get if I were in the market for a monitor.
Oh, do tell CiCi...Don't keep us hanging like that....

I too have the same problem and have been too embarrased to ask the question.  Please e-mail me and let me know too.  This pick up/delivery is soooooo old.....

we are definitely obsolete, and hanging on sm
by a thread. The old timers who are only hanging on for a few years will make it, but nothing for a newcomer to think of getting into. AHDI will make will make wild claims and try to intice, but it is pure BS. No money here any more, any way.
Instead of Ctrl+Ctrl+Insert, try
Ctrl+Insert+Insert. See if that works. Mark the word-phrase that you want to insert first. Let me know.

What is the key command to

I saw it awhile back but can't find it now.

Do you think it is beautiful to have rolls of blubber hanging out your

shirt, over your ankles, and walking like you have two 40 inch diameter poles poking out at a wierd oblique angle from your fat butt that you try to walk on?  Most fat people are really nasty as well as ugly.

It it any meaner to walk up to a skinny person and tell them how skinny they are than to walk up to a lard bard and tell them they are fat??

I agree with you. Hanging up my headphones and moving on - sm
I have shared your experience on so many points.  Thank you for sharing.  Yes, after 11 years of decreasing wages, increasingly worse ESLs, and typing on 7 hospitals with all very different specifics I am worn out and tired of it all.  I can still make okay money, but the hassle and endless roadblocks are just not worth it to me.  And what other profession do you know where the wages actually decrease from year to year?  I went from making 60K to about 30K over the past 10 years.  Time to move on.
TY here, too. Would I be able to disable that w/ just a key command?

the command to slow down
.
So you DO have a moose-head hanging from the wall of your trailer?
walked right into that one, Ellie Mae!
In Extext, is there a keyboard command
to slow down or speed up dictation? I'm trying to retrain myself to keep hands on keyboard, but I keep having to slow down and speed up different dictators. I have the little control open on my desktop, but it seems to require the mouse to change the speed. Is that right?
You have to create it with the bold command

Any1 know how to run the spellcheck command in WP 5.1?

TIA :-)

You can still use WP 5.1 on Win XP computers. Just go to the command prompt and install it. nm
:
I would contact your highest in command. A medical
record is a legal document and could potentially contain info that would contribute to a life/death situation.   If I were in a position of authority she would be gone yesterday.
Goodness, if you didn't know about the command feature, you really need to
spend some time on the Productivity Talk board for tons of ideas.
You need to use the command feature of IT when you make your entry sm
Copy and insert your text into a new IT entry. Now go back thru the entry and each time you want a field to be placed, you have to hit the "command" button on the bottom left of the window. Then hit CTRL+F9 to create a world field (this will make the little bracket thingies when it spits out in Word). When you're all done, hit OK and there you go!
I agree we should have a command of the English language...sm
I do. This is from the American Heritage Book of English usage in regard to collective nouns. You see, I also have a degree in English and also taught. I do know the rules for collective nouns.

"Some nouns refer to a group but are singular in form. These nouns are called collective nouns. In American usage, a collective noun takes a singular verb when it refers to the collection considered as a whole."
welcome; i printed it out and have it hanging beside my desk. current AAMT BOS, electronic addition

Volume Setting Command for Transnet/ExText

Anyone there who knows how to "permanently" set the volume for Transnet/ExText speech?  I know to double-click on the volume icon to raise the volume for "Each Report", but not how to do it "permanently".  I did it once by accident, but with recent upgrades, it wiped it out again.  Anyone?  Thanks!

Last time I checked, even MTs use the English language and we should have a command

of that language and that includes all the rules and regs taught from gradeschool on up.  Now, it's totally up to you if you choose to be an AHDI robot.  I acknowledge that a lot of MTSOs use the BOS as their guideline and if you work for those MTSOs, then you are obligated to follow "their" rules if you want your paycheck, but that does not mean that the rule book is correct.  Quite simply, it is not.  A group of retired MTs got together, had a meeting, and decided to make up a set of rules.  Then they had a really fantastic marketing team that set out to market those rules as the end-all, be-all of medical transcription.  They definitely found a willing audience for the crap they were peddling and they capitalized on it.  I guess that's the American dream -- making a bundle of money of a bunch of suckers willing to pay, no questions asked.

I, however, choose to buck the system.  I'm a noncomformist, I guess.  I earned my bachelor's in English before I decided to become an MT.  I believe it's important to be able to express oneself articulately and intelligently using the written word.  I dislike what texting, email, and chat rooms have done to the English language (witness above post "wannbe MT ur opinions..."!!!!!).

Oh well, that's just me.  I work for a hospital that could care less about the AHDI and its BOS.  In my spare time, I wage my anti-BOS and anti-AHDI campaign in the hopes that MTs will wise up and MTSOs will too.

Just create a command entry and use a short form that's fast to type. sm
This will bypass the Extext command. Make sure you put the trailing underscore at the end of your entry so you won't get an extra space from your marker key. Your entry will look like this:

{command}{Alt.}_

Any Stedman SmartType users? Pros & Cons? Will it retain bold formatting without using DOS command

{@KEY Ctrl+B}

she did say Ctrl/S also, which...
searches for a document for a particular patient, then after looking at the document searched for, Ctrl/T would end THAT document w/o saving any changes that may have been made while viewing document...does this make sense?  Perhaps that is why she would use Ctrl/T...
Just CTRL+K sm

then it says "the next key you type" the CTRL+B, your entry, then CTRL+B to remove bolding at then end.  Why use tags?

I think it's Ctrl + J
Works for me.
Try ALT+CTRL+R or ALT+CTRL+P nm
.
Unfortunately, once CTRL CTRL
stops working for me, I'm unable to load any more shortcuts until I go out of the program and go back in. Weird.

At MQ with DQS, you can Ctrl X, but I don't know
nm
Ctrl-S
brings up a screen, and you fill in the field or fields you want to be searched. For instance, if I want to search for reports done by Dr. Smith, I put smith into provider last name and click find(?). Then a list of reports by Dr. Smith will display, and you can choose one to look at. It opens this document up in a separate Extext document than the one you are working on. Then you can copy and paste what you need into document you are working on or just read through it, etc.

You have to remember to close the search document before you close current Extext document because it messes something up which I can't remember right now!
ctrl x
never worked for me. I highlight text, right click, choose cut and then paste where I want it.
I have never used ctrl-T
I click on the little x in the upper right corner to close, not the big red one. This will just close that document and return you to working document. I have never been kicked out using it.
