Start Stop foot pedal pre-programmed for EMDAT problems

Posted By: Cris on 2006-12-06
In Reply to:

I just got my foot pedal but have no idea how to get it to work with EMDAT Inscribe; much to my dismay a manual was not included with the pedal.  Obviously, even though it was pre-programmed to work with EMDAT, I can't just plug it in and get to work.  UGH!

Can anyone help me here.  I'm a real computer dummy so I need to be walked through the steps as though I were a kid.  BTW, my hot keys are F7 Play, F6 rewind, and F4 RR.

TIA

Emdat Start/Stop pedal trouble, Help!
I can't get my start/stop pedal to work right with Emdat.  Anyone else have trouble getting their pedal to work right?  It plays a little and then keeps starting over and quits.  Help!

Stop-Start Foot pedal
I have a stop-start foot pedal and using Express scribe.  When I take my foot off the pedal I would like it to just rewind a little bit instead of constantly having to hit the rewind pedal.  Do anyone know the procedure/technique to get this to work???
Start/Stop foot pedal
I want to know if anyone knows how to use the Start/Stop foot pedal with EMDAT (Inscribe).  I think I may have an older moderl.  Not sure.  Thanks.
Start/Stop foot pedal
I have the same problem, probably because I have an older model with no switch on the bottom.
If you use a Start-Stop foot pedal, please SM - I have a problem/question

I use a Start-Stop foot pedal with a PS/2 connector for an Emdat account.  I connect a PS/2 ergonomic keyboard to it, plug into the PC, and everything works beautifully.

The problem I have is this setup doesn't work using my laptop.  The Start-Stop tech person told me the PS/2 foot pedal used with a USB adapter isn't compatible with the laptop.  He said I need a USB-port Start-Stop foot pedal.  He also said I would need to use the laptop keyboard since an external USB-port keyboard also isn't compatible with the Start-Stop foot pedal when used with a laptop.  (I knew that my old PS/2 keyboard wouldn't work with the laptop and have already bought an MS 4000).

I really looked forward to getting my laptop set up so I could be more portable with my work, but after years of using an ergo keyboard there's just no way I would be productive using the laptop keyboard (not to mention the strain on my shoulders/wrists/hands).

So, here's my question.....Is there really no way to use a Start-Stop 3-pedal unit with USB connector on a laptop and at the same time use an external USB-port keyboard?

Any help is truly, truly appreciated.

My foot pedal is button #15 on the C-phone, I think it depends on what your co. has programmed. nm

You can buy just the Start/Stop software w/o the pedal if you're able to use your pedal as a VEC

Start Stop pedal best
As far as I am concerned, Start Stop is the Cadillac of pedals. Costs a little more, but worth every penny of it.

Start Stop pedal
You may be on a platform that will not work with Start Stop, such as Dictaphone. Best way to get an answer, however, is to call the company. I have had a Start Stop pedal for 6 years and have always found them to be very helpful and their tech people usually get back to you within a day. Their 800# is (866) 254-0714 or you can go to their web site and E-mail them. http://www.startstop.com/home.asp Good luck.

Start/Stop pedal and USB hub
I'm having problems getting my Start/Stop pedal for EMDAT to work when it is plugged into the USB hub.  It doesn't seem to recognize it correctly unless it is plugged directly into the computer.  Any ideas?  Thanks!
are you using Emdat foot pedal?

Emdat foot pedal help, USB or PS/2?
I am getting ready to purchase an Emdat programmed foot pedal from start-stop. I cannot figure out if I need the USB or the PS/2.

Do you base this on what type of connection your keyboard has?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
EMDAT foot pedal same as
Anyone know if the EMDAT foot pedal is the same as any other wav foot pedal?  Is there something special about it?
EMDAT foot pedal
There is a new version of Inscribe out that will configure to pedals other than the Emdat pedal.
EMDAT and foot pedal - sm
I see a few pages back where people were having the same problem I am currently having, Start and Stop foot pedal not working properly with Inscribe - EMDAT.  Like similar previous posts, it keeps playing even after I take my foot off the pedal and does not allow the foot pedal play feature in certain demographic screens.  I am wondering if anyone has ever gotten their Start/Stop pedal to function properly and if not, where did you end up purchasing another foot pedal from and what type was it.  If I need to purchase another pedal, I just want to be sure that it is the correct one.  Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
EMDAT foot pedal
I just started on the EMDAT platform and did not buy their foot pedal as I have an Infinity foot pedal that works with it.  However, it is driving me crazy.  When I press play for a short period of time and then let up on it, the dictation will not stop.  Only when I hold play down for a long period of time will it stop when I let up on it.  I called EMDAT's help number and really got nowhere.  Has anybody else had this problem.  Should I buy the EMDAT foot pedal - is that any better?
Emdat/Inscribe foot pedal?

Does anyone have any experience with what foot pedal to use for this? I went to the site and they suggest a DicTran pedal that is pre-programmed to work with your keyboard. Also, when you do use it, do you need to press the F1, F2, etc. keys on your keyboard or just use the pedal and that's it? It's also been suggested to use a Gearsplayer, but that's kind of expensive with getting the software, totalling $200. It would be $106 for the DicTran pedal. I have a Dictaphone pedal right now, but was told that would not work with Emdat. Please help!

Thanks!

Emdat foot pedal/Inscribe
I've read mostly negative comments about this.  Does it work with Microsoft 4000 Keyboard?  Is it decent to use as long as demos are pre-filled?  Is it hard to learn?  Thank you for suggestions.
emdat/inscribe foot pedal

What type of pedal works with this and where did you get it?

Thanks.

need emdat/Inscribe foot pedal

How do you stop the squeak in a foot pedal??

I have the Bytescribe foot pedal. It has started squeaking. Is it safe to spray it (unplugged of course) with a silicone lubricating spray or ??? I use it for my daily work and I do not have a back up so I do not want to use anything that may potentially cause it to stop working.

TIA.

Why would my foot pedal stop working? sm

My foot pedal I use on DocQScribe just quit working.  I've had it for only 2 years but someone told me it might be too old and just died.  Anyone know? I've tried everything.

Thanks

What type of foot pedal do you need to use Emdat/Inscribe?
Is it USB? If you have a 9-pin, can you use a converter?
Emdat foot pedal driving me CRAZY---HELP!!!
I just started with a company using Emdat, and purchased a pedal through start-stop. My complaint is this, I am used to a pedal that you hold in for play and release for pause. This pedal you tap for play and tap again for pause. It is seriously screwing me up!

Is this the only way this will work? :( Is there nothing I can do???
I've got a different problem with my Emdat foot pedal sm
I have one with a PS2 that I use with my PC, and it works fine.  The one with the USB port that I use with my laptop drives me nuts.  I bought the laptop specifically so I could travel and work, but I despise using the foot pedal.  When I hit play it plays as it should.  When I remove my foot for it to stop it continues to play for 1-2 seconds.  I talked to the wonderful (gag) people at Stop-Start who were absolutely no help at all although they did okay it for me to send the pedal back and get a new one.  The second one does the exact same thing.  I hate, hate, hate it.
EMDAT/InScribe foot pedal issues

I have an Infinity foot pedal that I am using with EMDAT/InScribe.  The pedal works, just not very well.  There is a 2-3 second delay and sometimes it will not stop the audio.  I cannot play the audio file at all if I am not in the InScribe program window.  Sometimes I will lose the audio all together if I am on the web researching things.  It is very frustrating!  I have tried every suggestion on the support page.  I have updated everything on my computer and ran every scan possible.  I do not want to buy a new pedal as this one works.  I hope there is some kind of "fix" for this.  Any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

I am running Windows XP professional with Service Pack 3, DSL, Trend antivirus, and the latest versions of Windows Media Player, IE, InScribe, etc.

Thank you  Thank You  THANK YOU  in advance!

Contact Start/Stop at their website and describe your pedal and ask them. They were very helpful

It should stop the play when you lift your foot from the pedal. Don't think it keeps playing othe

I hate shoes to start with, but I can't feel the foot pedal
if I have on shoes.  In the summer I'm usually barefoot, in the cooler months I have on socks.
Foot pedal? Going from VXP to applying for other companies. What foot pedal should I get that woul
I need one even just to test so it seems.  Thanks for the input!
A wave pedal is a foot pedal that connects to either
serial port, game port, or USB depending on the software needed with it.   You have to download the work via the internet and most companies still require high-speed internet, though some allow dial-up or satellite.   A pedal costs about $70, though can find on e-bay cheaper.  You can download ExpressScribe for free to use with the foot pedal unless the company requires a different software program.
Start/Stop
I had to buy this for a job but ended up loving it and even used it for a different job (a fairly large national) where they had their own wav player that was clunky and full of bugs and given to locking up. I was able to use the USB pedal I already had, so I didn't have to buy theirs, but they actually send you a CD and a booklet, so I believe you can install it as much as needed.

The feature I like is that you can program a pedal to insert a blank and a time code, which makes reviewing blanks ever so much easier.
start stop
try going to configure and uncheck variable speed it will play but you cant chnge speed

or try associate files with start stop under configure and check them all
Start/Stop
For those of you out there who have had a problem with this program skipping while trying to type and have to restart, etc., I have found that if you will load the Start/Stop program before Word, Excel, etc, you should not encounter this problem.
Start/stop and ExText
Is everyone using Dictaphone ExText also using start/stop?
I use the start-stop program too, and--sm
True Speech files are supposed to be compatible with it. When I get the error message that you speak of, there is usually no file at all associated with the job number. I suspect that is more the problem, than it not being able to be opened at all. There is nothing there to open. That happens sometimes with my docs when they are using a call in system and either get disconnected or hang up. Wherever you got the file from, just tell them there is no file there for that job number.
I have had the same problem with Start-Stop..sm
I used it with my lap top and it would keep playing. At times having to step on the foot pedal several times to make it stop. I was beginning to wonder if I was going to break it at times as I would get frustrated and really give it a good stomp at times LOL. I ordered a USB footpedal from another company and it works great even when I switched to Windows Vista the pedal works fine. I think it was just the pedal from Start Stop. Hope this helps.
Start/Stop Com Port settings
Have you played with the Com port setting under the Configure button? I have had to try mine in all 8 until I found the right one.
emdat pedal

I have the Infinity - just learning the Emdat platform.  I don't know what you mean about a "switch" on the bottom - they just told me there was a sticker on the bottom for the type/compatibility.  hth

Emdat pedal is not better sm
as a matter of fact, it goes on PS2 port with keyboard and I found it conflicted with my keyboard and switched to a USB keyboard.  Do you have the play and pause function separated under the "Options?"  Just have to learn a new "flow."
Bytescribe versus Start/Stop - which wav player is better? SM

I'm trying to decide which audio player software and pedal to purchase.  I'm also looking at GearPlayer.  I want something user friendly, universal to audio file types, and compatible with whatever service I end up with should I need to have my own software and equipment.

Thanks guys and gals!

I have Start Stop digital voice player--sm
and Spyware Doctor, as well. I have never had any conflicts between the two, and I really do not see why one would interfere with the other. although, I do not leave Spyware Doctor on all the time. I leave it off while I am working, as it did tend to slow things down a bit, but I never had any problems with it. I do run a nightly scan with Spyware Doctor though. I would be careful of other Spyware programs. I have had others that claim to remove spyware from your computer but actually do absolutely nothing. I believe the one I am thinking of is Spyware Eliminator, but I am not sure right off the top of my head. Good luck.
Start n' Stop digital voice player...which is what i use..nm

wav pedal is a foot pedal that plugs into your

computer so you can transcribe wav files.  There are many other formats such as DSS, but they are all digital voice files.

I don't think brand of foot pedal is important, but need to know if it is game port, serial port, or USB and how many pins it has.   The majority of them are made by Infinity in some foreign country, but sold by many companies.

WAV pedal vs. USB port foot pedal

PLEASE HELP! Are wav pedals and USB port foot pedals one in the same?  I've only transcribed from audio tapes, and all this is new to me.  Thank you for your help.

I also have a USB foot pedal. Do most companies use the USB pedal or SM

will I need a 9-pin or a 15-pin.  Also, which transcription software for playing back audio files is the best?  I've used one that was a fee download, I think it was called Bytescribe or somethingl ike that.  Does that work for most all files or should I look into purchasing something like Start/Stop or GearPlayer?

Oh and does anyone know where I can get Microsoft Word or Office Suite for a reasonable (I'd say cheap, but cheap usually means bootleg) price?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but it's been a while since I've worked for a national.  Before the hopsital job I'm being laid off from, I worked in the office at a hospital.  So I've been out of the loop so to speak.

Thanks guys.

Emdat is a funky pedal..sm
It uses your keyboard, but once you program it you do not have to press the F1 and F2 keys. You can program it relatively easy from the Emdat program.

I don't believe it will work with a USB keyboard (at least not that i know of yet).

I have one that I used maybe 3 times because I needed a different keyboard that only uses USB. If interested, e-mail me.

*silent screaming*  Is there any way to change how far back the voice file goes back when you take your foot off the pedal?  I disabled the pause/play option because I went it to rewide a second or two but not the 10 it is currently doing.  This system is a pain.  I'm hoping it grows on me!
