I use primoPDF version 2.0 (sm)

There's a new 3.0 version out, but I haven't tried that one. Here's a link to the old PrimoPDF 2.0 version, if you are interested. Both versions are free.

Hope my brain cooperates! Thanx...
I'll give it a go. Tx.---NM

I'll try that thanks. Give me a link....
Where do I buy one? Can you save me some time searching and give a link? Thanks so much.
I'll give you my 2 cents

When I started about 15 years ago I did clinic.  I had the same doctors over and over, every day.  While I got to making decent line counts, I also was very bored after a short time.  Clinic has all, but dried up at this point. The people who do it generally have their own accounts, pick up tapes or use an Olympus digital setup.  The days when there were lots of small companies with call-in systems who hired MTs are pretty well gone.  They exist, but not in the numbers they once did.

You are extremely wise to stick to acute care.  That is where the work is, at this point.  It is hard to develop the kind of ear that doesn't get rattled by many different voices on a daily basis.  Frankly, some MTs never do get there.

With VR or SR or whatever you call it coming on more strongly as time goes on, the worse it will be for those who do traditional I-type-every-word transcription.  The shloch you are getting will be the norm, not the exception.

I'd actually ask if I could have my secondary as my primary. You are fairly new to MT and you sort of need a bit of a leg up right now.  Once you get into more of a groove, and yes finding a groove often takes longer than a couple of years, these things will not be such a problem for you.  You will have "got it" by that point.

Tell me you are using an Expander and making the very most of it.  That is one thing that is really helpful.  It can help to take your mind off things like spelling and trying to push for more speed, and shifts more towards hearing the voices, recalling obscure terms and your accuracy.  You have not been doing this too long to learn an expander and make the most of it.

Hang in there.  It will get easier, but perhaps not as rapidly as you would like.  For all the years I have been at this, it has only been about 4 years where I felt I had a wide margin of mastery. The scope of knowledge is just too broad.

I'll give that a try since I'm in the 14-day trial window
Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for the responses. I'll give it more time.

If u give a damn you'll proof....
PERIOD. About 90% of my proofing is done as I type, but when I've finished i've made it a habit to check for my blanks cuz sometimes u can catch the stuff u couldn't before, it just suddenly becomes clear to you, and also I skim through any sections that were questionable, not blank-worthy, just want to make sure its an easy read. I'm pretty confident in my abilities after all this time but mistakes do happen and you're in denial if you think u don't make them. Sometimes the fingers and mind aren't in sync. Its easy to only think of the $$$ and be nonchalant about the reports but what if this were Your loved one. So yeah, put me down as a Proofer :)
I'll give it a go. Fortunately I don't have to punch in and out so getting up frequently won&
be a major issue and will probably be better for me in the long run anyway.  My feet swell horribly and my rear hurts after about an hour and being more mobile will probably help those too.
I've never tried it with sausage...I'll have to give it a shot!

thanks for the advice.....I am definitely open to learning new things, so I'll give it a try!

I just bought a pair of Able Planet (Lynx) NC Headphones I'll give you a great deal on! SM
I did a ton of research and found that many preferred these headphones over the Bose. They were actually more expensive. I paid over $300.00 for these! The only reason I purchased these was because I could charge them on my Dell account. They really are awesome. I can't even hear myself type when I turn on the NC feature. They are comfortable, but after 18 years as an MT, I've just gotten used to the stethoscope style or earbuds.

If you'd like to contact me, I'll give you an offer you can't refuse!
I wouldn't use lower case. I'd use upper case. Don't worry about it. nm

Thanks Lori....that's what I was looking for. nm

Thanks, I needed that Lori! LOL (nm)
;)
Agree 100%, Lori...
Except for the boredom factor, Radiology is the moneymaker IF the MT is paid by the line and not per report. I agree with you 100% about the line counts, as well. It also takes me 8 hours to crank out the same amount of lines for acute care or clinic reports that I can produce in 4 hours of radiology.

I've heard horror stories (and read them on this forum) about being paid per report for radiology, where the MT had a shift full of lengthy MRIs, CTs, nuclear medicine, etc., studies and ended up working for essentially minimum wage for the shift. I can't even imagine knocking out a 3- to 4-page report and getting $1.15 for my efforts.

I think you're right about your former co-worker. Unless she had the same group of dictators with tons of canned/normal reports that she could just whip right through, I don't see how anyone these days could make more money doing acute care as they could with radiology.

Good luck, OP, and let us know what you decide. If you decide to shift over to acute care transcription, I'm curious to see how you feel about acute care versus radiology.

lori who? wonder what island SHE lives on - sorry for being cat-ee

not surprised  guess I should really go read the story but if no details

of this person first I wonder if she really exists and if so and if they

for 5 years or something like that.  show a picture, show us her co-workers, show

us.

Lori, This is just my humble opinion... sm
but if this was me (and I agree it isn't) I would not rule out getting to know the retired people in your community. It may be through them that you meet other people your own age. For me, I have met friends that were originally friends of friends. I agree it may be hard to find something in common with someone who is not your own age, but if the retired people there are like my next door neighbors, I just listen and they do all the talking. It's a pretty easy conversation and sometimes pretty interesting.

OK, take this little piece of opinion for what it is worth. If it doesn't work for you, that is okay.
Lori, This is just my humble opinion...
MTHubie,

I do actually have 3 retired friends, but they are pretty busy with their families and being grandmas - so we do get times to chat now and then, but just not on the level I am needing I guess. I also visit with my landlord as well, as she lives across the lane from me, but she is hardly ever home. I probably sound pretty backwards and I honestly have never had problems making friends - but I am not backwards and I have many interests - just not living in a location that is plentiful with organizations or functions that I can embrace and therefore meet people. I appreciate your thoughts and ideas and I thank you for your input!!
lorlyn
Lori, I'm in the same exact boat.
I get awesome lines in Medrite but struggle to make lines on the Apex platform. I asked about this, and they said management is aware and looking into it, but I'm wondering how long. I honestly feel for you. I'm considering looking for work elsewhere. It's a struggle just to make the minimum lines on that platform.
Daughters' friends call me Miss Lori.

Yes, I've had it downloaded for a while
I wasn't sure how to get a host, username and password. Is it easy to do.
I used to have a free little toolbar that I downloaded and

there was also a website where you could sort the feedback of ebay users.  I deleted it because I'm just not into ebay as much as I used to be.  However, if you check Google or Download.com, you ought to be able to find something.  GutCheck is one of them, but I've never used it.

I typed the following into Google to find GutCheck.

ebay sort negative feedback

And "ebay feedback" without quotes at download.com to find BayCheck.

filling downloaded IRS forms
Okay, I'm supposed to be able to fill in the 1099-Misc form I just downloaded but for some reason I can't add any information.  Am I missing a plug-in or something?>
I didn't like it either, but when I downloaded the video
and relistened, I had to change my opinion. He sounded great. On the video, the fiddler and the background singer are less distracting and you can really hear Taylor sing.

SOUL PATROL, BABY!!!!
I mean there were no jobs to be downloaded...sorry your having trouble though..nm

Try Winamp. Can be downloaded online FOC.

I downloaded 2 last night without a problem

This isn't a hoax, they are legitimate Stedman's electronic downloads, just older versions.  I downloaded 2 files and ran scans on them both prior to installing....they were clean files.  They were also full versions, third edition, but hey when your own Stedman's books are nearly a decade old and mainly first and second editions, a third edition electronic seems cool.

Files work fine for me.

I downloaded Abacus. doggone if sm
I can figure out how to use it! That is what happens when you work for a one company forever and ever. Don't keep up on the other stuff. I did see the counter on Word so I guess I will have to wait and see how they do things.

Some companies don't explain things very well.
I already downloaded express scribe sm
and took the test. Thanks!
can't she just do a systems restore to the day before she downloaded it? nm

thanks, C-msg...I downloaded 'sount pilot' which is the trial...
I just downloaded the home typist and will check it out...Appreciate your help!
HELP!! How do add a new dictionary to shorthand. I just downloaded it and want to use the free one
they have but I am doing something wrong!!!
Have you downloaded Express Scribe. It works
with most files.    I know that Start/Stop can play multiple file formats by doing a conversion and there are probably other programs that do the same thing.   If you bought your foot pedal from a company that you worked for it could possibly be proprietary and not work with any other program.
I downloaded Dial Idol this week
on my laptop and had it do my dialing and voting for me this week. I've never done that before but it sure was easier...and I usually need to be working every evening, too, so can't just stop and vote for 2 hours..or 3 next week.  I have such anxiety or this show. I don't know what my problem is. When I told my son last night that Taylor made it to the finals, I said "Do you know what that means?"  He said, "He'll come in second and you'll be disappointed again?"  Yep..he knows how it goes.  Obviously, I absolutely loved Clay and cried the night he didn't win. I didn't really get too wrapped up in season 3. I liked Bo and was disappointed but didn't cry when he lost.  This year, I have the feeling for Taylor like I did for Clay.  I will be so, so disappointed and upset at this dumb show if he doesn't win.  As many times as Kat has been in the bottom, and Taylor never, I will just not understand it if he doesn't win, and on the other hand I guess I will just not be surprised at all, either.
can Express Scribe be downloaded off internet - sm
Is there a cost? Where can I purchase it?
Has anyone downloaded FastFox Typing Expander.....sm
I am downloading Express Scribe for a new job, and this Expander is another feature from this company that you can also download free...was thinking of trying it out, it is supposed to work great with Express Scribe. Anyone??
