i GUARANTEE she won't be hired back
maybe its some kind of a TEST, like the service owner ASKED the doc to try to lure her away, and once she did it, THEY would BOTH fire her.
It does have a 30-day money-back trial. nm
.
At what age would most MTs like to cut back and just have a nice job and not worry about the money
you make so much and have less stress. Lots of high stress jobs out there but there must be a point where you say I want it easier now. Hopefully those jobs still exist in MTing.
i sent my chapstick back with show me the money on it. i'm now working for spheris.
oh well he has one more chapstick floating around to recycle next MT appreciation day.
E-mail me - I can steer you in the right direction to get your money back from Ms. Pineda.

Speaking of rip-offs, anyone have any advise on how to get back money paid for a product you never
received?  I needed a Dictaphone C-phone for my job (was using a loaner) and put a note on the equipment board pertaining to this back in May.  A woman contacted me stating she had one for $100 (I only needed the phone, power supply and phone cord).  She said she was going away for 3 weeks and to Western Union the money to her that night and she'd send it out the next day.  I did not like the high pressure and was still shopping around anyway so I told her I'd wait the 3 weeks and contact her then.  About a week later she emailed me stating she cut her trip short but was going away again that Friday (It was Tuesday), I had by this time decided to buy her phone.  I mailed out that day via Priority mail a M.O. for $100.  She was very anxious for the money, and thought I'd sent it Express Mail, which I of course informed her I did not.  She stated that it should be there by Friday and if she did not see her mail that day that she'd have her mom check the mail and then mail the C-phone to me.  After 2 weeks I emailed her as I had no phone as yet, no response.  A week later still no phone, emailed again, no response. Then I called her (looked it up) and she claimed her email was "broken" and she had not received my emails but would email me back as she was on her way out the door to a baseball game.  I asked her how can she email me back if it was broken??? So then she backpedaled and said she'd call me.... I held my breath at that point.  So the next day by some miracle I get an email from her stating her mother had mailed it regular mail, no way to track it, etc.  So supposedly it is lost.  I emailed her back which it appeared she did not get as she did not respond to my questions but she did email me again saying she'd return my money.....again I am holding my breath.  That was 8 days ago.  She is in OK, I am in VA.  If she sent me a refund promptly it would have been here by now.  Now when I call her, she does not pick up, and no answering machine either.  I am planning now to mail her a copy of her email and my response to getting my money back.  I am assuming at this point that I was taken for a sucker and was obviously too trusting.  Right now I don't have $100 to burn (who does?) with my drives to the hospital (60 miles round trip) for my daughter's chemo, doctor visits, etc, on top of only making about 1/2 what I used to make due to the changes in my life right now.  In the meantime I got kicked off the account for which I needed the C-phone for (add insult to injury here) due to problems at the company I was working for, so that does not sweeten my disposition any.  So does anyone have any idea how I can squeeze her and get my money back?  Contact the police there for fraud? Small claims court in OK?  I am a persistent pain in the butt and will keep at her until I get my money back, if it is fraud then she picked the wrong person to screw with, if it is on the up and up then it is unfortunate but she should have insured it to cover her own (and mine) butt, and sent in with a delivery confirmation too....but you know what they say about hindsight.  Any ideas???
Offer 1 week notice, but willing to offer 2 if they would be in a bind. Also, (sm)
make sure your resignation letter is written with class.  Never good to burn your bridges.

CMT NOT A GUARANTEE
I do not think that CMT is necessarily an "investment in your future". I am not certified and am making a crazy salary. I get paid "salaried" as an editor. It is great money and I am earning it not on the basis of certification, but based on my experience and what I have put into my career. You get back what you put in. I have never even been asked if I am certified or not.

As far as offshoring, I think it's a travesty, BUT, other major American business are doing it, so it would stand to reason so would the medical profession.

If you are willing to learn, learn, learn, and perfect our "craft" then you do not need to be certified to have a great career.
not a guarantee either
I've been with two companies who had DD and was still paid late. The last one I quit I told her I would finish out the month to give her a chance to find someone else. My DD was 2-1/2 weeks late for that pay period. It hosed me financially and she had the gall to tell me she wasn't responsible for my financial situation. When you are the one holding my paycheck, you are.
Don't know you can get a guarantee of
number of reports -- that would totally depend on the patient load, whether or not anyone actually needed x-rays, whether the doctor is working FT or PT, etc.
CMT does not guarantee a qualified MT, maybe
just someone with enough money to play the game and take a test. I personally have worked with and hired MTs with and without the CMT at the end of their name and I really see no difference overall the CMT makes as far as quality of work or fund of knowledge, and there are some with CMTs that make me wonder how they even passed the test. Experience alone is the tell all. I would hire someone with years of experience over someone with only a few with some silly credential behind their name. If you have been in this business for 15+ years, you do not need some credential to prove yourself. Some just need to have somthing to make them feel superior when they actually may not even be that good. Passing a test for CMT looks good on paper, but in my experience does not mean you can actually decipher dictation or produce quality reports in the real world. JMO
There is also no guarantee the work will be there.
I have not had a hard time getting paid, I have had a hard time knowing my contracted lines will be there. However, of course, I am expected to live up to my promised lines. Catch-22. As an IC you of course can and should get more than 1 account or company to work with. That is my advice. Make sure to do your homework too.
You are correct. There is no guarantee of

They'd need a crystal ball.  All is a guestimate when it comes to workload, etc.

Try www.medword.com and search contracts.  You can find some templates there.

Correct spelling would be a guarantee.
differential.
I can almost guarantee that the MTSO is making more than

0.05 cpl profit.   I think you have to look at each potential account individually.  Do you had equipment that they can use to call-in, do they use tapes, do you have to print and deliver work,  etc.

I also think you need to look at where you live.  If you live in a metropolitan area you could get away with charging more.  It you live in a very small town with no much in the area you would probably need to charge less.

You could offer to do the work for a couple of days and then come up with a rate.  Maybe they have tons of normals, very easy dictators and it you could really be productive you might charge a little less versus if you have to pickup tapes, print and deliver work, etc.

I've never had my own accounts or even worked as an IC so I have no personal experience.

There is no guarantee that FlashType will work in Meditech although
it works in most Windows environments.  It does work in many platforms and all stand alone word processors, email programs, instant messengers.
Bravo! I guarantee you will feel better in time
NM
I guarantee you it's NOT the software that is making this person
$30/hr, it's knowledge that comes from years of studying at a good school. I wouldn't expect to make $30 right from the start, either. It is possible to work up to that over a couple of years. BTW, I don't know of ANY type of software that costs 5K. Maybe this person meant computer, software, reference materials, etc.
Make money? I'm not making any money because of my decision. You read my reasoning
You can agree with me or not, but don't make false assumptions please.
You're working to make money, not to spend money.
These people should be ashamed of themselves taking advantage of people this way!
I also blew some money signing up with Quixtar... The only way to make any money is to bug everyone

you know into signing up.  I felt like a snake oil huckster.  I hated it.  I was flushing money down the toilet from the moment I handed over my money.

RUN, do not walk away!  I do an entirely different side business now that I really love (in addition to my MTing, which I also love!)  Find something you're good at and that you truly love doing.  Then make a business out of it.  That's the best way to have a side business.  Selling discount toilet paper through Amway/Quixtar?  Not so much.

The CMT exam is overrated. Don't waste your time & money. Use that money on
paid anymore just because you have it.  There are a few CMT cheerleaders that post to people like you but they are pretty well sucked up into that association.
Yeah, money, that's it. I paid $20.00 for my dog. Money is NOT THE ISSUE
walk him daily, play ball daily, he sleeps in my office daily while I work. Yeah, I got a lot of money, NOT HARDLY. And, my dog is HORRIBLY HORRIBLY ABUSED because he wears a collar around his neck. It's people like you that make me sick. I am done defending my use of the shock collar. I am going to continue with it and my dog will continue to be pampered , educated, fed, kept warm, and love me for everything that I do for him even when I remind him that his barking needs to stop. So, with that said, I will not respond to any more of your CRAP in reference to the shock collar.
Money is money and most people will do whatever it takes when in need. sm
if you do bring it to the attn of the office manager, why not offer her a raise to compensate. it is obvious she just needs or wants more money than your office is paying her. I agree, it is a free country and although it seems odd, unless you had it outlined in contract, she can work for whomever or whereever she pleases on the side. at least she is typing and not at a strip joint, lol. I see no conflict of interest, she has experience obviously in whichever field you are in and what is wrong with doing extra in that field. i agree with MYOB "nicely" and concentrate on your reports than looking at older reports and seeing who they are typed by.
With short arms, I need chair with shallow seat, good back support and high back. Want arm rests
:+
OK! I'm glad you're back down here. Now don't go back up there and read those evil posts ag
Okay? But I have to leave you now, sadly. Thousands of noble dictating doctors are anxiously awaiting my help with their "dictations"....They're all loading up on chips, drinking lots of soda so they can burp, and then have to go to the bathroom...You know the routine! Off I go to earn some pennies!! But, truly, I am thankful that I have a job!
PS.. It apparently worked..I heard back and already submitted the paperwork back.

I'm not sure how many people they are hiring but you shouldn't stress too hard over it. Do the best you can.

Can I offer something? sm

I have a 13 yo boy.  He sounds much like your daughter, wonderful kid, straight A's very much likes to hang with the family, etc.  Never had a problem with him.  However, he knows that I mean business.  If a child is going to sneak and do stuff that he/she knows parents won't like I say give them a consequence to remember.  Maybe you either have to take a few days off work and go to school with your daughter, explaining to her that since she cannot be trusted you need to attend class with her to be sure everything is going okay or take everything away from her and let her know that since she is not being responsible enough to come to you and she feels the need to sneak things past you, you have felt the need to remove material possessions from her life until she can become responsible enough to handle it.  She is giving in to peer pressure which of course we know will only get worse.  Emphasize to her that she is number one to you, you love her too much to allow anybody to influence her the wrong way or to let her waste one day of her life doing things that will not benefit her.  She is God's gift to the earth and she should treat herself as such and expect others to treat her the same.  If her friends do not respect that her parents will not allow her to do certain things, than those friends need to go bye bye.  I know this sounds tough but guess what, you are not raising an 11 yo you are raising a strong, wonderful, beautiful, smart, wise woman, she is only 11 for 365 days.

Lastly I want to applaude you for even caring. When my son was in sixth grade a mother of a girl he goes to school with showed up at the awards assembly and was taking pictures of my son.  I sat down beside her and when I cheered for my son as he got an award she said "oh is that your son" to which I replied "yes it is" and she said "oh my daughter is so in love with him, that is why I am taking so many pictures"  I just wanted to punch her, what is she teaching her daughter by doing that?  I explained to her that my son was 11 and had no time for girls, he was heavily involved in basketball and church and would not be allowed to spend time with girls for quite a few years.  She was appalled at what I said.  I walked away, hoping she would think about it before her daughter met up with a boy whose parents don't expect the standards to be quite so high.

Job offer
Are you kidding? There are people out there who do QA with many years of experience who don't make that. Jump at the chance.
You might ask them if they offer (sm)

combat pay or double or even triple time to come in whenever needed.

Got a job offer
I got an offer today.  As you stated, I requested to be paid for headers/footer, etc. and that was acceptable to them.  Right now, I'm not getting any work from any of my other jobs and haven't for the past month or so.  I think this is their downtime or something, which doesn't pay my bills.  I don't know whether it's smart to take the job w/CyMed or not being that this company offshores work.  However, I'm a single parent trying to make ends meet any way I can -- even if it means accepting less than desired.  Any suggestions?  I would greatly appreciate it.
Got my offer.
They offered me 9 cpl. I think that's okay. Been out of the biz for a while. I would like to be an IC someday....
My DH had a job offer there once...
We traveled there to check it out and by the day we left, I was TOTALLY against going there.  But it's highly individual.  I can't stand living out in the middle of nowhere, which was where we were going to end up (Evanston), with a 2 hour drive one direction to SLC down out of the mountains and 2 hours in any other direction to "nowhere."  If that wasn't bad enough, the clincher was the park ranger in Evanston who told us that winter up at that altitude is basically 10 months.  ENOUGH for me, DONE, FINISHED, I was OUTTA there.  It snows until June and starts back up in September.  That may be different in Laramie or other places, but up on that continental shelf high altitude area of southwestern Wyoming, it's COLD!  We didn't move there.
The first offer should be better.
However, the font and margins the client uses on the gross line account will impact the line count. Best advice is to run a test on some documents that you have right now using both methods and see where you come out.
Thanks for the offer
I live in PA and as much as I hate the winters here I'm not sure my husband is ready to pick up and leave but thanks for the offer
They will offer up a job you will see SM
on all the boards on your own anyway, and if you refuse that job and tell them to find a different one, you will never hear from them again.
No need to wonder..It always means less money for the MT and more money for MQ.
z
Money, honey, money!!!!!!.
nm
And they can say thank you and offer their first newborn
qq
I wanted to offer ...sm
our RV that is in our yard. DH reminded me that the kids still sleep there because of our house fire (dishwasher door caught fire). Our house is still in disrepair.

I'll have to find another way to help.
Cuban offer
Yeah, but W isn't alone as a world-leader in surrounding himself with Secretarys and admins who are mostly dicks.  Actually, I'm surprised Fidel made the offer-unless he's got all the Dr.'s families locked away for "return-receipt" purposes
Yes, they do offer benefits.
I wasn't aware that they hired SE or IC.  I was only offered FT or PT employee status with a set schedule.
You may offer to do ops on several accounts. That's
zz
Do they offer anything besides VA facilities now? nm
s
Actually, they do offer insurance to SM

part-time associates after 2 years.  They also have insurance that full-time associates can get during their 90-day waiting period for their regular insurance to kick in after they are hired.

I agree - consider the new job offer; but also consider, sm
if you can have unlimited work available at either job. That to me is a big plus or are you limited by how much is available. Whichever one has the most consistent work available, is the one I would work for, or I would try doing both for a few weeks to figure it out. I know that would be tough, but in the long run would be worth it.

The higher line count does not necessarily mean it is the best fit. The work may run out; however, the lower line count may have consistently a larger volume and you will never run out.

If you are unsure, as an IC, you can try both, just will have to put in a lot of hours for the first few weeks to figure it out.

I have always done that and always have 2 IC positions, sometimes 3.

Good luck in whatever you decide!
