We went to Disney in November. Definitely purchase your airline tickets on-line (sm)

Posted By: Here too on 2006-01-10
In Reply to: Orlando vacation tickets - Renee

I priced them through Travelocity and on the airline's web pages and I got a better price direct from the airlines.  On NWA you can preregister on-line 24 hours before your flight leaves, so you just walk into the airport, drop your bags and head for the plane.  For the parks, we booked everything through AAA.  The price was about $100 less than booking direct with Disney on-line.  There are very few places to get cheap Disney tickets, don't waste a lot of time trying.  If you're staying on the Disney grounds, let me know and I've got TONS of tips for you.  It is a GREAT place to vacation.

The disney tickets cover 4 parks so you are not set in where you go- sm
They cover Disney, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and MGM-Studios. With a park hopper pass you can bounce between all 4 Disney parks in 1 day and it only counts as 1 day/ticket. Without the hopper option you can only go to 1 park that day, of course these are a little cheaper. Check out the Disney web site, it will explain all the ticket options so you know what to ask for when you do get your tickets. Universal is separate, is 2 parks in one basically, one side is more kid oriented than the other. Sea World is separate too, they have a few rides there now too.
I would buy before you go, on-line, Disney Store - sm
The ticket lines were long at Disney, as for buying at a resort, I don't know, we have always bought in advance, granted not on this trip (comped by Make a Wish) Call a resort and ask. As for International Drive, if it is the road I think it is (Hwy 192) (we just got back ourselves) be prepared for tons of traffic on that road, ripped up for construction, and traffic lights every 1/4 mile it seemed too. Going to Disney was not a problem, it was driving back that took a bit extra time. Universal was pretty wild though, first time there for us. You will have a blast!
Yes, and it's coming out on CD in November.
It sounds like it will be a huge improvement over the latest QLDB, because people who have always used QLDB are saying the latest one doesn't work as efficiently in past. So go to this website to order Sauders. CD isn't scheduled to be released until November, though.

20 years as MT in November........wow.....
;)
i've been looking since november (sm)

and no luck, but i really ran out of work in July.  I hung around that company for a couple more months and finally gave up, went with another one and about 2 weeks in lost the account through no fault of my own.  have not typed a line of transcription since november 10th, and cannot buy a job.  i have to have ic status because of some health issues, and i am just about finished with mt'ing.  Poor companies screaming about not being able to find MTs who will work...my a double s.

oh, and the grammar/typo police?  sorry folks, but i am on an evil laptop that makes typing, shall we say interesting, and it is not like this is a job interview ha!

39 years come November
The first post in this thread caught my attention and I would like to comment.  I started as an MT from scratch, having been lucky enough to ask what the one-woman medical record manager (a post-polio paraplegic in the wheelchair using "thumb pedal") was doing with earphones on, playing tapes and typing away.  I was 19 then and helping out with the filing since she, obviously, could not.  She offered to let me give it a try and it took me three hours to transcribe one discharge summary because I was listening to a whole 'nother language and my best typing speed in my college typing class was 60 wpm once, averaging 45 wpm.  I loved words and was hooked.  Over the years, I've helped to train new MTs in a hospital setting.  Pat Forbes, a former AAMT president, was a coworker at one of those hospitals.  We discused the training of newbies and the consensus was that it took 3 years to train an MT from scratch, 5 years for them to become independent (agreeing with the writer of the initial post). That is in a hospital setting with acute-care training.  Any non-acute-care training limits an MT severely.  I'm a definite "oldie" and would love to be part of an "oldies" forum.   Btw, my typing speed is much, much better now. :)

Disney
We did it a couple of years ago. It was about $1000 person, including room, food, tickets, extra $, and cheap airfare from Baltimore. We did stay in Disney, but there was a deal going on $59 night for the moderates.
About the Tickets

Disney World is what runs Orlando, so you can purchase the tickets absolutely anywhere.  International Drive is one of the big hubs of hotels/restaurants, if not the biggest, outside of the Disney grounds, so you will find tickets readily available anywhere there.

If you have the opportunity and the money, go to the Polynesian restaurant at the top of the Polynesian Hotel for dinner (not the lau (sp) - the restaurant - forget the name.)  The view is spectacular, and the food is absolutely wonderful, and lots of it, too!  All you can eat shrimp, beef, chicken, lamb, etc. cooked over spits Polynesian style........

Have fun.......

They even sometimes put your SS# on tickets
Along with your license plate number, drivers license number, address, and DOB like the article said. Unbelievable!!!!! And I just love how they justify it. I had to jump through hoops - background check, fingerprinting - to work at the county clerk's office doing what these people are. You know darn well those people aren't screened!
Florida Disney

Would anyone who has gone to Disney in Florida recently give me an idea of how much money it takes?  My grandkids want this as a goal for saving money and I want to be as realistic as I can with them about the cost and what they need.  Thanks.

Cheap tickets.com
I got two round trip tickets for less than 500 on cheap tickets.com
Idol Tickets
Dress up like a major fan with Idol T-shirt and other accessories and stand in front of local supermarket with a karaoke machine singing some famous Idol songs, "I believe", "A moment like this"! Oh, c'mon, that would be good! lol
Not sure about Universal, but I think you pay the same for Disney whether you pay at the gate or in

Just got back from Disney on Sunday
at the Polynesian resort. We stayed there last year. Stayed at Grand Floridian this year (courtesy of in-laws). We had the Disney Dining plan, 1 counter service, 1 table service, and 1 snack per person per day. We found it worked out to be a good deal for us.
Orlando vacation tickets

We are planning a trip to Orlando over spring break. Does anyone have experience with purchasing tickets on-line or purchasing them at the hotel travel desk, pros and cons of each? We went years ago before Internet and purchased everything when we got there and would like to do that again. Any suggestions?

Not always true. $75 tickets online were only...

$56 when we got there.  I'm very happy we waited!  This was at Disneyland-Anaheim.  The bad news is that they said the gaits would be closed by !0 a.m. or when the crowd reached 45,000, but that didn't happen.  The park was terribly crowed, and we heard "upwards of 65,000" from a cast member later that day.  Every ride had at least a 2-hour wait, and even Main Street was full of people - not just on the sidewalks, mind you, but the ENTIRE street from side-to-side!

Travel to Florida/Disney - experiences?

We are planning a trip to Florida for the Daytona 500 in February - we are having problems lining up a hotel in the Orlando area that includes suites with kitchenettes and also has shuttle service to the major parks in the area. We want something in the mid range, maybe 3 star or 4 star, and will only have 2 tweenagers traveling with us - the rest will be adults. Can anyone recommend a place to stay with some atmosphere, pool area, restaurant, etc.?

We've been there before when our kids were young and stayed in very basic motels which was fine. We hardly spent any time at the motel anyway. This time, with some going to the NASCAR race, there will be down time for others, so a nice pool/outdoor area would be a plus.

I've been to Disney World and not everyone is happy.
minimum wage without benefits.  They have layoffs all the time.  It's not a happy place to work.
Forget the money and tickets...just give me Mel! nm

I could not find the thread on Disney World information.
Does anyone know of any great websites to get discounted Disney World tickets and Universal Studio Florida. We are going in a few months and I wanted to buy them ahead of time. Thanks for any information.
Have seen them twice (Las Vegas and L.A.). They put on great stage show. Tickets were under $100.

Last year we went to Disney and I work on a laptop so I brought it and didn't
take any time off so I could work. After much probing, calling, and trying to set up my internet (I made sure the hotel had wireless or I wouldn't book it), I finally got on line, but it was the night before we had to leave anyway.
I absolutely love my Dell laptop because of the flexibility and I can work on the dining table, office, kids room, etc. I can't imagine ever going back to a desktop PC.
But, you never know when you travel if 100% you will be able to get online.
Disney thread still on this page down under the ugly names post. nm

Local radio station is giving away American Idol concer tickets. sm
They're running a contest for 2 free tickets. With the entry, you have to list what you would be willing to do in exchange for these tickets. The best/most original idea will win the tickets. Any suggestions? It has to be something the person would really be willing to do. I really want these tickets!!
A gross line is anything on a line is a line. A line set at 65 characters means it sm
has 1-inch margins on each side. The maximum number of characters on that line would be 65 and that includes spaces. If there is 1 character on that line it is a line.

A standard 65-character line usually consists of 65 characters with spaces unless, of course, the employer does not pay for spaces and then it would be 65-characters without spaces.

VoiceScribe program?  I am offered a position with a company but they only give you a 30-day trial for this program - then after that you have to purchase license for $600.  I just can't afford that right now.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

definitely purchase something

I got a Brother fax machine several years ago at Office Depot for around $80 or so.  I later got an HP all-in-one in 2005 at Sam's.  I don't remember what it cost, but it's worth it if you'll be faxing regularly.  Some of your clients may prefer a scanned version.

You could also compare on-line fax capabilities, which seems to be more current, for obvious reasons.  I can't remember the details, but I've heard it advertised on talk radio.

Just a thought, especially if you'll be doing this regularly.  Places like the UPS Store, etc. charge a good bit to fax, not to mention the inconvenience of leaving the house to do it.

Me too. Let me know if you find it. I will purchase it also. I also don't know whether or not
Good luck.
Need to purchase cphone
Help!  I am trying to get started transcribing at home and I have work to do but I need advice on what type of transcribing phone to purchase.  I have been instructed by my current employer to by a cphone that dials into an automated system to retreive my work.  Please, any advice or if anyone has one for sale.  The cheaper the better or I will buy used.  Thanks.
It is normal to have to purchase your own
provide the PC.  Some will provide the foot pedal if you do not have what is required.  Some companies give you the option of renting their equipment.  It all depends on the company, but yes you will have to have your own resource books.
Anything you purchase for your transcription

You might want to check out some of the earlier posts here as the tax issues have been discussed.  You would probably gain information in that respect.  Also, you might want to have an accountant/tax preparer for your first year.  Some say, you can copy the next year from that first year, but I personally believe in having my taxes prepared for me as these guys are up on things, ya' know.  Most definitely though you will want to get your own freestanding PC because down the road you may want to gain some of your own accounts, so you will need that.  You will be fine.  Some of these people act like you out to take their job or something???  Go figure.  There is always one bad apple in the bunch, right?  I learned that in grade school.  Best wishes in your endeavors....

Because of scammers, if you purchase a new pc,
and want ALL the CDs, you are going to have to make a verbal request.
Yes, you can purchase an adapter just about anywhere
that sells computer accessories, such as Radio Shack, Best Buy, CompUSA (online only now), etc.
Research and purchase best available. NM

Here's the link to purchase it

If you already have version III, you can upgrade to V for about half the cost.
Is it a program you have to purchase? nm

LOL - but the poster is asking to purchase
the company provided PC?
Individual MT usually has to purchase it ..

An alternative would be to purchase and download
a product called Phone Tools by BVRP.  It functions as both a fax and answering machine. I've been using it for >5 years now and have never had any problems.
if you use your debit card for gas purchase (SM)
make sure you realize that some companies (Shell is really really bad to do this) will reserve extra funds on your debit card until the transaction completes and releases those funds 24-72 hours later. With Shell, it is $75 over your purchase. I nearly fainted when I realized what was happening. You can go on MSN Money and find a few articles on this -- gas companies reserving funds on your debit card.
Be aware before you purchase online sm
I've never ordered any of my pets' meds online but my friend has. One of her dogs was found to have heart worms and the guarantee was not honored because the product was purchased from a website which does not guarantee its products. I can't remember which site it was; you may want to inquire before you purchase. (She ended up paying $700 for treatment.)

Please overlook any typos, it's been a LONG day.
You can purchase the CMT Review Guide-sm

from Stedman's. The title is "The CMT Reveiw Guide."  This book was just released last year (2005) and was developed for the current version of the CMT exam.  You might also want to consider a CMT Study Group.  Contact the nearest chapter of AAMT as they do have CMT Study Groups.  I know that the Online Chapter of AAMT is about to start a study group that will complete in time to take the CMT in the end of July/begining of August.   Oak Horizons also offers and online CMT Prep Course which I have heard is really good.  You can get more info on the Oak Horizons class on www.aamt.org and do a search for CMT prep course.  For more info on the OCAAMT Study Group contact certconnector@aamtonline.org.

Best place to purchase C-phone? sm

I may need to purchase a C-phone.  I've been looking at ebay and some other sites.  Do any of you have a favorite place to purchase equipment?  I live in Atlanta area, and it seems like there used to be a place to buy equipment, but I can't remember the name.

TIA for your help!
