expanders vs MS Word Auto Correct

Hello everyone ....  I've been using MS Word's auto correct feature as my expander.  Is it 'just as good' as using an Expander ?   Of course my line count is lousy per hour - but I don't do the same account regularly, and I don't get many ops (standard formats).

Please tell me if / why I should change to an expander - and which one works best.  Remember PRD for DOS - I loved it.  Is there a Windows version?

Thanks, Susie

Can you use the Word autocorrects or only Smartype? What about the Word auto text? tia nm

MS Word Auto Text

I had inputed a bunch of my own "text expantion" into MS Word Auto Text and went in to work today and they are all gone.  It is not the first time this has happened, and then you have to go and input back everything, which is a pain.

Has anyone else experienced this or know why it happens??

MS Word 2003 auto text

I use Word 2003 with the platform that my company uses.  I am able to save autocorrect entries, but whenever I save an autotext entry it is gone the next time I open Word.  Is there some Word option I need to click that will enable my entries to be saved?  It would save me so much time if this feature worked.

Auto Text too full-slow MS Word
Has anyone experienced having their Auto Text in MS Word so full that it slows down getting into and out of MS Word Program?  This seems to be the problem, because when I accidentally deleted my "Auto Text" entries, my Word program worked fast again.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
open a word document, under help type in auto text--sm
and you can learn how to create, save, delete, edit entries.
Auto Text entries on word. Is there a way to copy these or print these? Thanks in advance. NM

Word/text expanders for Meditech
I would apprecaiate knowing word/text Expanders work in Meditech?  Thank you.
Are you sure you're using Auto Text and not Auto Correct?
Auto Text accompanies the template, as I stated before. The Auto Correct entries are in a separate file with the .acl extension.
Transferring Auto Correct/Auto Text

I work in Word currently and have a large number of AC/AT entries.  I am moving to a platform that has Instant Text or Shorthand.  Is it possible to transfer these entries as a file somehow, or am I going to have to enter by hand?  Also any comments welcome regarding the ease of use, etc of Instant Text versus Shorthand.

Thanks

auto text, auto text auto text - I also have ...
a couple of doctor accounts that pay me "off the books" and it's less than $800/month so that helps out a great deal.

I autotext every report until I build each doctor up to a "normal" text format. if you want more info - email me at dcr468@aol.com. I am always hesitant about writing the name of companies on this board because of the serious bashing that goes on.
auto text.

Auto Text entries

The file should be located here:

c:documents and settings<your name>application datamicrosoft emplates

There are a couple of other "critical" files that you should also back up. One is CUSTOM.DIC - (this is your dictionary)
c:documents and settings<your name>application datamicrosoftproof

and the other is MSO1033.acl (AutoCorrect entries)
c:documents and settings<your name>application datamicrosoftoffice

Auto Text thanx for helping :)

Inscribe/auto Text
I would like to print out my expansions in Auto Text, Inscribe. I am needing to make changes and clean it up and for me it would be easier to make the changes on paper and then go and do the changes.
Any ideas?
auto text has shut off
i was deleting some entries in my auto text and now when i am typing, they aren't coming on...i must have shut them off and i can't figure out to turn it on again.
Tks so much. What is auto text/where do I find it? This sounds so
.
Emdat Inscribe Auto text

New to Inscribe and when I try to expand my word in auto text the cursor jumps to the next line.  Even did this when I tried a key other than the enter key.  Also have Instant text(older version, Instant Text III Pro, but seems to be taking a long time to get used to.  Any thoughts on these two expanders, which is better to use?  Thank you

Auto text entries are saved to the template.
Open a document (even a new, blank one). Click on Tools, Templates and Add-in. Click on the box at the bottom, Organizer. Choose the Auto Text tab. If the AT entires you're looking for are shown, make note of the template that they're attached to (in most cases, this will be Normal). If you want them to be copied to a new template, simply choose that template in the opposite box and copy any or all entries that you want to copy.

TEXT EXPANDERS
Can someone please recommend a good text expander.  I have a bunch of templates saved to my computer, so I would need something that imports these files and holds their settings (font, size, bolding, etc.).  Any recommendations???
Any new text expanders out there?
I like Instant Text and the fact that it compiles multiple reports for you and creates shortcuts for you and almost any method works with it, ABCZ, AAA, ABAB, or just wildcard it.  IT also gives you many suggestions at the bottom of the screen in the advisories.  I also like the smartline under the cursor in Smartype, but there is no wildcarding in ST.  I also like the feature in some of the autocompletion software that "learns" as we type and remembers words and phrases that are typed often.  When will we get a text Expander program that gives us all of these in one program?  We deserve it and it has to be around $50.
Question about text expanders...
Since I type in Word I've always assumed the autotext was adequate for my shortcuts, but is it worth it to buy "Instant Text" or one of the other programs for that? Don't they just do the same thing as Word's autotext?
instant text or speedtype, expanders
I need suggestions on getting a word expander program.
expanders Smartype vs Instant Text

Stuck in a rut!!!

Lost my 2-year word-expansion dictionary and am changing jobs.   I noticed after my dictionary crashed and starting from scratch I was coming up with new abbreviations since I was in the mode of adding them back in.   Think we can get stuck in a rut and not challenge ourselves sometimes.   I have used Smartype in the past and loved it, but I am curious about Instant Text.   Anyone ever try both??????

Are there any text expanders that would use the same saved files from Shorthand?... nm

Does anyone have good text expanders for vital signs data?
Do you any of you use text Expanders for the numerical portion of vital signs for example, 130/80 ? I have lots of expanders but none for the actual numerical data. It really slows me down either having to look at my number row or switch to the keypad. I do have some, but nothing consistent. Anything ideas would be great, thanks!!
MS Word Auto Numbering
If by indenting, you mean making a list and having it indented toward the right, you need to turn on the autonumbering options in Word.  Do this by opening Word, go to tools, autocorrect.  Click on the tab autoformat as you type.  Check ON automatic numbered lists.  Now click on the tab Autoformat and check ON lists, say OK at the bottom.  Close Word and open it again.  When you type 1. and then some text and hit enter aftward, it should now set up your list for you.  Make sure that if you are transcribing, the account allows autonumbering, most don't.  Hope this helps!
Auto Correct in Word

I use auto correct in Word to make my macros.  Is there any way to save this info in the event that my computer were to crash.  This has happened before and I've had to enter all of my macros again on a new computer (quite a hassle).  I appreciate any info.

Thanks,

If you are using Word use auto-correct to

get you started. - make tp the patient, etc.

Start with just a few additions - the ones that you use most often.  Add 5 or 10 a week.  Make you a sticky note and stick on the monitor if you need help remembering.  Use those 5 to 10 for a week and then add a few more the next week.

As someone else stated I would get an expander.  Auto correct does the same thing as an Expander but has limited space, so if you utilize a lot of auto-corrects/expansions you'll run out of room and have to switch over to an expander anyway.

Auto correct in Word and a TON of macros....

auto correct in word 2007

  1. Click the Microsoft Office ButtonButton, and then click Word Options.
  2. In the Word Options dialog box, click Proofing, and then click AutoCorrect Options.

What word expanders work best with MS word? Or..

.. is there another way?   Do many use the "autocorrect" to make your own word Expander without having to purchase anything?  Does that workout well or is it best to buy expander software?

I'm setting things up to start again after a couple years out of hte business.  My Spellex spellchecker expired and I had to purchase a new spellchecker.  Also wanting to get my expander going.  GAH!  It's a bit spendy to get things going again... not fun.

Anyone know how to transfer auto corrects from SmarType to word? please..nm

Every version of Word seems to do auto numbering differently. sm
The last two versions have a number list style that will keep numbers at the left margin and do the hanging indent automatically. Alt-Shift-left arrow will take your list back to the left margin if you don't use the style but want to use automatic numbering.
I built my own using the auto-correct function in Word. (sm)
I removed most of the words that came with auto-correct, and replaced them with my own short macros, which consist of words, phrases, & short sentences. Little or no memorizing involved, because I made them up as I went along whenever I kept getting the same things over and over again, and got tired of typing them. For longer macros I just put them in a document file that I can copy and paste. Simple. And CHEAP!
How many WPM do you type with auto corrects/word expander?

I have never tested my speed using my Expander and have no idea how many WPM I type.  I became a certified master typist last year at over 100 WPM without my expander.  I've been doing this for six years.

I'm really curious what the average is with an expander.  TIA.

Open Word, click on Auto Correct, then..
click on the words you do not want and click Delete.
Word expanders
Does anyone have recommendations on a good word expander.  Our office is transitioning to an web-based system which uses MS word.  We currently use Word Perfect and have extensive templates stored in "quick words" which is great.  Using macros in word would be a pain in the butt!  Have never used a word Expander so any suggestions would be appreciated.  Is there a limit to how much info can be stored - i.e. will it just expand to a sentence or can it be a whole page of type, and what is involved in using a Word Expander (is it just by Keystrokes or do you have to point and click).  Thanks for your help.
Word Expanders
I have used Smartype by Dorland and Abbreviate and Shorthand. I like the Smartype best in word program as I have a bit of a problem remembering all of the abbreviations. Do a Google search for the Smartype word expansion program or Ask Jeeves. Many transcriptionists love the ShortHand program also.
Word expanders
I use Instant Text from Textware.com.  This has been the best that I have found.  You can customize it to each physician you transcribed for with a separate file.  I have used it for years and think it is well worth the money.  Do to their website and take a look.
Word Expanders

Can anyone tell me the advantage of using word Expanders versus autocorrect/autotext in word?  I use autocorrect a LOT but am wondering if there is an advantage to switching over?

Thanks so much for your help/advice!  - Karen

Word expanders
What are the best word expanders?
word expanders
Agree, Instant Text is the best I have ever used.  Been an MT a long time and used a lot of others, but this is the best.  I called the company when I got it and as far as I know, it would practically me impossible to max out its memory capacity.
word expanders
I use ShortHand for Radiology and I also use Smartype and I find that like you, my memory is really bad, worse as the day goes on, but I write down the entries, memorize them (not too many, mind you), then in a couple of weeks add a couple of more, and this method works for me.  I still type out many words as I forget them, but at least I have some entries in there to help my production.  Just my thoughts, but I know what you are going through, and thought I was the only one with this problem lol.
word expanders

Has anyone used SmartType as a word expander? How do you find it?

Do you use word expanders?
If so, which ones are your most-used?  The only ones I use right now are 'tp' for 'the patient' and 'ttp' for 'The patient'.
word expanders

I do not even know how many short cuts I have, but I know that I would never continue to do this job if someone told me I could not use them!  How would you ever make any money?  Some of my suggestions are for the word endings; for example, dem = demonstrate; dems=demonstrates; demd=demonstrated; and demj=demonstration; all I change is the last letter and I am consistent about how I make my shortcuts so I never have to really think about what I need to type.
