social recluse
Why would anyone become an MT if they needed a lot of socializing? One of the main reasons I became an MT is lack of need for interaction with others.
I was a social recluse before this job.
...which I guess is why I have adapted so well to it.  I could never handle gossip or having to walk around pretending to be a happy "team member" in an office setting.  I watch "The Office" as a reminder as to how pukey that whole workin' in an office situation really is...but it is extremely funny when you aren't a part of that atmosphere anymore though.  I once worked with a female version of Dwight and it was so not funny.  Dwight=funny.
No brown recluse spiders but I may have sm
found what looks like black widows out in my yucca bush. Scared the tar out of me. Now, I can deal with the snakes, but spiders sent me screaming. Spent some time on the internet looking them up but they might be black jumping spiders. They look to hairy to be black widows, otherwise the look a lot alike.
My kids are far from being a social recluse...
I have some of the most social kids in the neighborhood.  Every day they are playing with other kids, and they are in karate as well.  My daughter has Tourette's syndrome and she said people at school were making fun of her tics.  I choose to protect her from those kids, but she is not at all socially isolated, only isolated from the kids who ridicule her...
If you are a social recluse, it won't make
you come out of your shell, but if your life has good balance, it should not hamper your social abilities at all. I definitely am a people person and have worked at home since early 90s.
Do you find that this job makes you a social recluse?
I never get out socially with anyone.  It's just my husband and three kids.  People used to call, but since I both work full time transcription and home school, I never had time to do anything and people just quit calling.  Yesterday evening a neighbor had a party and invited women from the neighborhood, but not me.  That hurt my feelings, and made me see just how isolated I am from the world.  I am also pretty shy by nature, but being home all day and never getting out doesn't help.  Do any of you feel isolated with this job?  Does it bother you??
Becoming a recluse happens much too often when working at home, sometimes to the point of agoraphobi
/.
You can do this very easily....sm
I've got the same type of setup that you're looking for. I use the Linksys routers and have a wireless router for the desktop PC that is on the other end of the house and use a notebook wireless card for my laptop. The entire setup took less than 10 minutes and their directions are idiot-proof to follow (trust me, I'm technically challenged and I got it right the first time - woo-hoo!)

Do be sure that you set up a password on your wireless access, otherwise someone could easily hack into your access. The easy directions for this was on their website as well.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any specific questions and I'll try to help you.
Especially easily happens
because we use expanders. I once had a report sent back because I had expanded ankle pain out instead of abdominal pain (twice in the report!)... I couldn't believe I didn't catch it when proofing. I guess it must have been one of those brain fog days when I have trouble proofing (along with trying to hurry).

Really when you consider all the poor dictation (along with their actual content), how easy it is to transpose letters or hit the wrong key and expand out something totally off the wall in a particular document, trying to hurry as fast as we can while making tons of little decisions along the way ... we do pretty darn good!

Don't beat yourself up. :)
It can EASILY cause that feeling and yes, it is ...
working from home that does that.

It nags on you because it is "never completed", there's always more to do.

You need to get out of the house and do something OUTSIDE and something WITH OTHERS. That is why I volunteer (see my post a few threads below under "Answers").

You have to really keep a tight rein on disciplining yourself to keep a firm wide boundary between your home life and your work life because they are BOTH at home.
oh please, you can get AIDs here just as easily.

MDs not so easily impressed.
<MTSO for firing this lady>>

No, no, no, he was probably quite surprised and annoyed to be called by an a subcontractor he doesn't know from Jack, rather than the MTSO he hired to do his work. The MD is the one complaining to the MTSO when she doesn't meet TAT, and she CAN't meet it if the IC she hired doesn't send her work in on time. So what does she do? Offer the work to somebody who is more motivated than you. It's business.
You would be surprised how easily someone....sm
gets "lost in the shuffle."  There are so many people applying for jobs and sending resumes.  I found that the applicants who continued to check with me where much more apt to get positions.  If I really didn't want someone because of their abilities, I would just tell them I had no openings, and they would stop contacting me.  You don't want to bug them to the point of irritation, but you certainly should check.
I can easily see the difference.
I don't think you have a problem here.
You can easily do it without the macros. sm
Add an autocorrect. Now do a search for the .acl file by the date you made your change so you know you have the correct file. You need to make sure you are searching the hidden files and you probably need to change your search view to Details so you can see dates. You can right-click the file and send it to your CD (or however you want to transfer the file).

Do the same thing on the new computer so you can find the correct folder path and paste your file.

Sometimes the MS macros don't work because you probably have some entries that are multi-line with paragraphs.

It could have easily cost you your life. nt

???? She didn't! We can easily see the difference.

Enrichment is done easily in IT, although it can be done in Shorthand sm
This is where you take several days' worth of work for one doctor (if you have your dictionaries divided by doctors) and run the Enrichment option in IT. It looks thru the work and picks out the common phrases and words and automatically adds them to your dictionary. It's really cool! Shorts you didn't know were there suddenly pop up for you all the time. A lot of times it's things it never even clicked to me that the doc says it all the time.

If you want to do this in Shorthand, it's not automatic but can be done. You need to have another piece of software (or a website) and you enter your text in there. It picks out the common phrases and lists them out for you. Then you have to manually go to ShortHand and enter them. Takes quite a bit longer, but still worth it!

I would suggest y'all head over to productivitytalk.com and start absorbing all the knowledge for your particular expander. There is just a ton of knowledge over there, it will blow you away!
and you could have just as easily skipped my posting by that reasoning
Okay, Message Board Police. Next time I decide to express my opinion I'll run it past you for permission first, okay?

Amazing
Open, easily approachable, and true communication is key.

But since you can switch so easily from one to the other, I just use my email on my main computer &

Static IP address are not as easily attained as you would imply.
Also, most newcomers to the idea of FTP file transfer are not anywhere near the technical level of experience that you claim to have. My answers are being given to provide a SIMPLE solution for this person.
Static IP addresses are not free, either, so despite what you want to assert, your solution is not FREE.
If one is a nonproduction job, managerial, etc wool can be easily pulled
snap!
Google "soap note" and you can find it easily.

Did you just say: You can very easily "add lines by inserting a word here and there"
I recall back in the mid 1990s, I was working with a fellow MT who was on midnight shift in medical records. He was making a huge sum of money and we all thought he was "the Whiz."

Come to find out, he was inserting phrases, embellishing dictated sentences I guess you'd call it, to get more lines per report. He got away with it for a number of years but was kissing up to the supervisor and director, always available to help out, nicest guy in the world - but a thief - who fooled us all.

Radiologist would surely notice eventually if not QA.
it was K-force, but I don't think they do it now.

force yourself ...

... to absolutely stop at every heading.

Think about what you're doing.

Then do the right thing.

It slows you down when doing it, and you'll get aggravated at that too!  But little by little you'll find yourself doing it without thinking -- once in awhile.  Then all the time.

This is how I learned my short forms when I first started using the expansion programs.  I'm so glad I took the time!  Others wouldn't do it, and they suffered in the long run.  Patience is virtue.

And if they try to FORCE it on us, then if ever there

The day they force me
get certification, CMT or whatever, is the day I retire. Totally ridiculous. What, someone with 20+ years experience is suddenly not qualified without some letters behind their name? Please.
You can't force them to pay what isn't in their
You state you are tired of your life revolving around your PC, used to be this and that. Well, that is your personal choice every single day and minute to sit there in front of that PC.

No one is making you stay in this business if you think it is going under.

Without the understanding of what part of the puzzle your particular job has in the picture for your employer, for your industry, for this country, you'll never be successful at any kind of bargaining or negotiation.

No one said you should feel sorry for MTSOs but before you go off charging like a mad bull, you need to understand what your options are and what the reality of the financial picture is.

I feel more sorry for those who bark off with the general statements that unions will save this work, a strike will bring you more wages, just band together and demand more and POOF, it will happen, etc., than I do for anyone else with other problems here.

After all my time in this work, having been in business with it, worked for other companies (nationals and smaller), it is clear that you are not understanding the whole picture at all.

Vent, gripe, complain - yes - but if you think words such as union or strike or demand are going to get you anywhere, you are sadly mistaken, my friend. It would be more sad to see you lose what you do have because of this.

Of all the companies announcing layoffs each week on the news, not one single company has been an MTSO.

It is not the end.

you have to get rid of this! Force yourself to think
always about what you are doing at the moment. If you do not do this, then the quality of your work - whatever you are doing - is going to suffer.
Do you have a wandering mind, in general? When you transcribe, do you then think about cooking?
I do not mean this ironic or sarcastic, I want to help you.

She's my fave, too. I don't force anyone into my car either.

My son is leaving for the Air Force
I am so proud of him, yet so worried with the situation the world is in right now.  Please pray for him if you would!
Yeah, May the force be with you......

I'd force her hand. sm
I'd definitely force her to do the deed if that's what she's up to. I sure wouldn't make it easy for her. It sounds like you've done a good job for them all this time. As for the pay, I think I'd be tempted to mention something about how they could afford vacation, but not be able to pay you, especially after you spent your vacation at home. The idea that she'd do that burns me up for you! Furthermore, you know darn well they've got the money. She's just being vindictive. Make sure and update after next week. We'll be wishing you luck with this sticky situation.
yes, legal to ASK--not force as

mandatory. Again, I've worked for other companies before, and I've either been very lucky or, as I've stated, this field has gone much downhill and there is less respect for the work and skills of MTs than ever.

No, it's not their job to give me an easy living, but neither is it my job to lose what little money I do make--compared to their ????--because they've overloaded themselves in their greediness to take on more accounts when they know they don't have enough MTs to cover it.

If I made $250,000 a year and had Air Force One to myself, I'd
take a lot of vacations, too.
I had to force myself to work with it, but I'm glad that I did.
It took about two weeks until I could get used to the idea of typing words differently. It has really helped with the fatigue in my arms, shoulders, wrists, etc.
Here is why they're trying to force 'certification'
Because we MTs are starting to get wise to them.   U.S. MTs began to realize that a CMT was getting them NOTHING.  And I think when U.S. membership started to slow to a trickle, that's when they started going after the Indian MTs.  (For the sole purpose of course, of making money off of THEM, too).  And then of course they'd have another selling point for their offshore workers when trying to sell hospitals on the idea, saying all or most of their offshore workforce is credentialled, but the U.S. MTs are not.  So who knows - maybe the Indians have caught on to this con game, as well.  After all, they can read these boards, too.  So now that we've gotten wise, they're gonna try to FORCE MTs to get their certification.  I for one will never give them one cent of my hard-earned income for some useless letters behind my name.
Obama's new task force
Maybe if all of us posted something here about medical transcription jobs being sent overseas, it could help? I'm not exactly sure if this would be the right place, but I think I'm going to write something about it. Have a nice weekend! :)

Maybe this will finally force DH and I to NOT eat out so much, save money there. nm

Anyone have info on K Force Health care? nm
nm
K-force, yes they still do. They offered me 11 cpl and 40 c/mile in San Bernardino, CA. nm
nm
I'd force her hand while you line up other work.
I would continue doing the work and returning it as soon as it's done. Once you've transribed/printed it's their responsbility from there. I've seen so many docs think they can't afford to pay a measley paycheck but can well afford big houses, cars, vacations. Let's face it, they really don't know what 'tight' is. She seems fishy, very odd. What doc wants you to postpone getting work done? That's just plain bad business. I'm very sorry for you. I think you should keep doing the work, line up something else, and let her squirm and have to face you. If she phases you out by trying to avoid you, nicely get in her face, and make her be accountable for how she's treating you. I'm also very sorry about your husband. You'll be in my prayers.
maybe you oughtta try cherrypicking too...force the co. to deal with bad dictators! nm

never ever force anyone to attending funeral rituals, but especially a child who does not want to go
nm
Head's up! AAMT Task Force has posted about their name change
I know some posters here are members who may be interested for various reasons.  :-)
You tell them my sister MQMT. MQ fire patrol out in full force today!
But we can contain their idiot remarks with logic.
Personally I would not force her to go - she can alway visit the grave site to say goodbye- sm
My mom died about 18 months ago, but has there been a funeral I would not have had my kids there (they were 6 & 4 at the time). I know my in-laws would have thought me a terrible person for that but I would not have cared (my mom donated her body to science-- my dad is too). An open casket is a lot different than a closed one and can make quite an impression on some. I just don't think that is something that should be pushed. She is old enough to make the decision, you should abide by it.
Get out the timer. You'll have to force yourself to work uninterrupted for periods of time.
Just keep in mind that you WANT the money. Best of luck!
Guess what? If companies fired the shoddy MTs, they'd lose more than half their work force in eve
company! Pretty sad state of things, but that's the quality out there right now, and AMERICAN MTs.
