if you think about it, we are NOT getting any results.  In fact some studies show that early academic pushing is counter productive.  Many Europeans countries don't start kids in school until age 7.  They leave us IN THE DUST academically.  Children of 4 and 5, as a rule, are not ready for all of this.  They do much better by playing creatively and learning social skills.  Then, when they are developmentally ready for formal learning, it comes to them easily.  Early is not always better.  In fact, by about 3rd grade, the early academics kids and the late bloomers come out about equal.  Of course there's the rare truly gifted child, but most of your early readers do wind up any better off than the late bloomers.  My husband is a teacher and always says...


Children all learn in a different way on a different day.
