Why is it the only expander you're permitted to use? How would any know what you're using?

xx

No word expander that is worth its salt is FREE...sm
Wish that was so! There are several that have DEMO versions though, including FlashType offered through this website.
Whatever expander you're using should....sm
...provide a means of saving your short forms.

For Microsoft Word, there's a widely used macro available free that works in all versions of Word (although it was created for Word 97) which is rather remarkable. Go to the link below and download AutoCorrect.zip. Unzip it and then come back to the link's instructions if you need further help with it. As it says, it's fairly self-explanatory.

and you're care free???

You're right - it is free from their site
Glad you mentioned that. I was going from hits on Google and there are sites that are selling versions of this. Apparently, some come with a CD. I'm not sure what the other differences are. Hmmmm: $200.00 (Microsoft) VS $20.00 (OpalOffice) VS free... Okay.
Thank you!
If you're "old" enough you could go to the AARP free tax......
people at the library or wherever they are holding it in a town near you. Think you only have to be 55. I tried it this year and was very pleased. They are knowledgeable and up-to-date.
Please post the name of the free server that you're using.
It would be helpful to both this poster and other who may be looking. Is it some kind of a secret that you can't share or what?
Misha, you're almost working for free--
--doing this. There are many general transcription companies that pay real money. I know, because I work for a couple. General transcription is a real industry with real people supporting families with their income. Whoever is paying this low a wage is LAUGHING at your gullibility.
I don't think you're going to find sm
10 cents a line with the usual companies that hire on these boards without actually calling them directly and talking with them about your experience, your merits, etc. and then asking them if they would consider paying you what you think you're worth/need.

I've been watching these website job boards for a few years now and the pay has definitely gone down all the way across the MT spectrum.

I've also found if you search out the smaller companies you actually might be surprised by what they would pay and also the very different atmosphere of working for them than the usual big ones that are mentioned on websites such as this one. I found these companies through a listing provided by another MT website and just started sending out resumes galore, which was how I found my current MTSO who pays me over 9 for clinic work, love her, and I have no intention of going anywhere else, but I found her outside of these type of boards by the mentioned above.

It's been mentioned on here that usually the good ones that do pay decent and treat you with respect are hardly ever mentioned on this board or elsewhere and I'd agree with that 100%.

Another thought is to call your local hospitals/clinics and ask them if they hire their MTs to work remote as you'd probably make way more and you'd also reap the benefits as well and most require a short in-house work period until they send you off to work at home or you could ask them who they send their work to as that might be a local MTSO you're totally unaware of who might be interested in hiring you as well.

There are good paying MTSOs out there, it's just taking a bit more effort in finding them. Keep searching! Good luck!
You're misunderstanding how toll free call in
services work.  You can't just get some long distance service at 3 cents a minute. Where are the doctors supposed to leave their dictation?  We have software that answers, prompts for the dictator ID and password, then keypad functions the doctor uses to leave their dictation.  Then, those dictated files are provided to the transcription service via FTP.  So, our service, at 9 cents per minute is the cheapest on the market offering these features and we do not require a large amount of minutes per month like other toll free call in services do.
you're right. She'll find her way over. NM

You're right, can't find a good one
My platform is down and I'm always up for a good challenge, but I think part of the problem may be is that just a "physical therapy" reference/search site is too general as there are so many facets to PT,such as ortho, cardio, etc. I've looked for a good site for this for over an hour, hopefully someone has one right at their fingertips. Good luck.
do you ever find yourself "editing" when you're not working? sm
I find myself, like when I'm reading a menu or magazine, newspaper, etc, always finding the grammer errors, punctuation errors, spelling errors, and it drives me--not to mention my DH--nuts! I guess it's out of habit, but I can't seem to turn the "editor" in me off!  I'm always, instead of enjoying the story or article, or whatever I'm reading, looking for errors or typo's.  Does anyone else ever do this? I guess I'm obsessive/compulsive.  Think I could get work comp for that?
You're welcome. You can find Model M's on eBay

I think I'd go with clickykeyboards.com for their trustworthiness and service and all.  You can get some in the $35-40 range there.  (Check to be sure if it has a ps/2 connector, unless you have an AT/5-pin inlet on your computer.  You can buy an AT to ps/2 adaptor from them or at most office supply stores fairly easily, though.)

I think you'll be pleased.  Much as I liked my NMB, I wouldn't ever buy even a vintage/used one of those since I just don't think that model and brand has much longevity, apparently.

Not to mention you're letting the govt use your money INTEREST FREE
Ack!

Now that said, I usually have them withhold a little too much simply because we can't take a payment hit.
Smaller MTSOs. They're tough to find.
You'd best put your resume in the MTstars resume database with the objective that you're searching for a smaller MTSO.
We're not a transcription service. We offer toll free call in dictation
service at rock bottom prices. I was only offering you an alternative without having to put out a lot of money by buying handheld units.
I wish you were the norm! Can't find 8.5 cpl for experience out here anymore. You're VERY luck

If you're talking about MetroScript, I didn't find that they had any extra fees (sm)
They pretty much only charge you for what you use. I only pay $14.99 per month and it works great for me.
They're supposed to be good luck. He'll find his way out when he's hungry. nm

Might want to check out eBay if you're not into JCP or Sears stuff. Can find some good bargains

Well, if you're working in Word
you can use that Word Count and do the math yourself, or there is Abacus.  I don't know of any free line counting programs.  I work in Word and just use the tools in word to count lines.  You highlight the document and count it that way through the tools menu.
For Pete's sake, you're not terminating a pregnancy, you're just typing a report after the
It's already been done before you even hear about it, and NOTHING changes regardless of whether you or someone else types it. Sheesh.
It's not funny when you're on a board where language is one skill you're selling.

Hope you're gonna have a glass of wine while you're relaxing

in your spa goodies. Congrats!

Leave it. Unless you're having a problem with Word
automatically making it small for 1/2, in which case I undo to make the numbers big again.
I wouldn't like that either. So, you're not typing in Word? sm
If not typing in Word, I wonder if you could copy/paste your work into a Word document to keep track of your line count.

If you can do that, make sure you have your line count set up to do it the same way they do....including lines, spaces, etc.

I assume you're working in Word?
Did you record the Find & Replace macro? You'd get more help if you posted your macro code so we can see where the glitch might be.
You're the one with the word "veteran" in your moniker lol
Actually, take out the word "newbie" in the post above, and it reads logically and makes complete sense. There's nothing NASTY about that post.

I wrote that post. The reason newbie is mentioned is because she brought it up in other previous posts and made it an issue HERSELF.

And, last time I checked, "newbie" wasn't a put-down or a curse word, right? I was responding back to her because her original posts set the tone.

She started off basically complaining about how the newbies aren't getting enough coddling from the other posters around here and made it an issue herself. IMO, if anyone or any posts could be labeled "nasty" (which I disagree with anyway), it would be the posts by the one who started the whole ruckus in the first place.

I was offended at the fact that she was telling people off who were trying to help, using profanity, basically dissing the posters of this entire board, and then comes back and either creates a whole new post about how OTHERS are being "nasty" or jumps right in and starts in again.
Well, you're all complaining that accounts are current and work is low, so, gee, maybe they're
focusing on WORK, as in CLIENT and transcribing, as maybe half of you should be focusing on!!
If you're experienced, try for 9cpl or higher, and you're lucky to get that! nm

Skip it. No one cares. Either you're good on the test or you're not.

You're probably right. Plus we're losing our percentage of good people by .... (sm)
allowing every loser from every 3rd world country on the planet to just stroll on into our country, some legally, most illegally, and take advantage of the social services all us hard working little gerbils pay for by having money taken out of our pay every month. But I don't think we're all lazy. Just the ones on permanent welfare driving around town in brand-new Cadillac Escalades. Saw one just today on the Bayshore Fwy. Brand-new black Escalade with expensive spinner wheels, with 5 or 6 Mexicans in it. Well, who knows - maybe they stole it and it was on its way to a chop-shop. Smart-and-hungry people aren't always hard-working and honest.
You're welcome Tad, you will get quicker answers on the word board

You're forgetting all the stuff you can't buy when you're UNEMPLOYED!
Unemployed people have a hard time buying anything, including cheaply made offshore products. How many will have to end up depending on public assistance? That means more tax dollars being eaten up - besides the taxes NOT being collected from the overseas workers. In the long run, are you really enjoying a lower price?

You're not losing it, you're burned out on your main job.
I feel for you... I am having my own "version" ;-) of these kinds of struggles. Lots of recent changes at the admin level have made my job do a 180, going from a really great one to a really crappy one.

For me, it's a struggle to get through the day with a shred of motivation. I get distracted in the way you discuss as well.

I just try to make my environment as comfortable as possible and make the best of it while I decide what the best way is to deal with the burnout... I figure if I can't change my inner brain workings so that I still like this job, I need to find another one, or this feeling will possibly get worse!

I hope it works out for you. Wish I had some better advice for you, but this really does look like burnout and extreme job dissatisfaction to me. We all wear it differently. Try to be good to yourself while you figure out a solution.

Don't know what you're complaint you're making with this post. sm

You stated in your original post that you don't want to work weekends or odd shifts. What is your definition of an odd shift?  Second shift?  Third shift?  Sounds like you want to work M-F on days.  Sounds kind of rigid to me.

Personally I like second shift, so everyone working days means more work for me!

Doesn't every word you said just translate into you're worried about bidding? Don't underst
phrasing in that regard.  I don't look at worrying about bidding as a bad thing, either.  Its the only way to buy on E-Bay - cautiously.  One should always worry about bidding, as you have no clue who you're buying from!  Most sellers will always respond angrily to a negative - only ones who don't answer at all are the guilty ones! But if you're unjustly accused of this or that, and then the buyer has the audacity to leave a contrived negative, that's when the seller responds and feathers fly!  Negative reading is a great experience - you can really learn a lot about all parties, right? I don't deal with the ones who leave cursing, I'm gonna kill you negatives! Though, sadly most of them have been deleted by now, so we don't get to see the "true colors"...Censorship sometimes hurts...

If they're withholding taxes, you're not an IC.
As an IC, you should already be paying taxes. That said, the only benefit having them withhold FICA is that your Social Security/Medicare share will be less. Social Security is 15%; if you're an employee, you pay 7.5% and your employer pays 7.5%. As an IC, you pay 15%. Doing the math, 0.0925 would be your 0.10 minus 7.5%--the 0.0924 is just a tad less than you're making now.
