steps to becoming an IC
Just need someone to tell me the steps that need to be taken to become an IC.  I would love to have more flexibility in my schedule/hours than a national company can give.  I have a few people who have found out that I do transcription and seem interested if I would work for them on the side.  I would love to, but don't know how to get this going.  Do I need a business license?  If someone can either tell me what steps to take or where do I find just plain, straightforward information, I would appreciate it.
steps......and usually remember...say R U....sm
in your 50s?  This happens in our late 40s and 50s.....*L* - I call them brain *_arts*........don't know if you can type the word for flatulence *lol*
Steps for control T.
When using control/T to close out the Control/S document, you must make sure the Control/S document is fully open and that it is the document on top. The document you see should have "read only" next to the patient's name. If it is not on top, control/T will close out everything.

Here are the steps: When you open Control/S, pull up the doc you want to review, etc., it comes up first. When you go back to the document you're transcribing, the Control/S document goes behind your working document. When you minimize your working document to Control/T the viewing document, it will go to a split window, and then you have to make sure the reviewing document is on top before you Control/T. I hope this makes sense--You can't Control/T with a split window or both documents showing at the same time. You must click on the read only document to open it to view so there is no split screen and the only document you see is the read only document. Otherwise, you close out both documents.
Follow these steps....
You have 3 keys at the top of your C-phone, press the one on the far left with PROGM above it.  Then press KEYS (far left button also).  Select progm key comes up, press the button you are wanting to change (the one causing you to disconnect).  It then will ask you if you want to revise, answer yes.  Then press the multiplication sign X on the far right of your keypad (also labeled select).  Then press the Stop button located on the bottom section of your C-phone.  This is what works for me, hopefully this will help you too.
That's too many steps in a dialog box.
Word 2003 has a List Number style already formatted at the left margin that you can assign a keyboard shortcut to, then switch back to your default paragraph style after your list with Ctrl + Q.

Or you can turn on automatic numbering in the AutoCorrect/AutoFormat as You Type tab. Type your 1 and period and auto numbering starts. You'll get the auto indent, but you can hit Alt + Shift + left arrow to move the list to the left margin. You can shorten that shortcut by assigning something like Alt+L to the OutlinePromote command in the customize keyboard dialog box under all commands.

You need two macros. Just record the steps
to change to higher level, and the second one to change it back. Be sure to assign shortcut keys to each.
I fell down my steps in MARCH of 05 and my tailbone still ...
hurts a lot of the time.  Both soft and hard chairs are hard to get out of, depending how long I have been sitting.  My sister said about trying an inflatable pool ring, but there aren't many to be found this time of year!
Thanks for the link. Interesting. Looks like they skipped a couple of steps. (nm)

I am taking baby steps to achieving the life I want.
Reducing food intake and increasing exercise slowly. Turning a hobby into a potential career. Yeah, right! Who am I kidding?
Does anyone like the new Healthgrade website after they upgraded - it only takes 4 or 5 steps to
nm
Do away with automatic numbered list. See inside steps.
Tools, Autocorrect, AutoFormat as you Type, uncheck Automatic Numbered Lists.
Tell us the exact steps you are taking to create your AutoText. sm
How many letters are you assigning to the shortcut name? You can't have 5 entries with the same name. Every name has to be unique. For example, if you assign abcde to an entry name, then create another entry with abcde as the name, Word will not know which name you want and you will get nothing.

Also go to Tools/Templates and Add-ins and tell us what shows up there. Some add-ins block Word from saving anything to the normal.dot (like Adobe, Norton, and Winfax Pro). Are you in fact running any of those programs? Some add-ins don't show in that window and you need to check for what's called COM add-ins.

you can try a test to see if your normal.dot is corrupt. Close Word and Outlook if you use that. Search for the normal.dot and right-click the file in the search window and rename the file to normal.old. Open Word and try to create an AutoText. Does it save now? If it does, you can use the Organizer to transfer your other customizations to the new normal.dot and then delete the old one. If it still doesn't work, delete the new normal.dot and change the name back on the old one.

I worked for them many years ago and the owners are great. Very helpful with any problems you encounter.

So what are they like to work for? How is their work and do they run out of work. How are their dictators? Any information would be appreciated.

When you fall down a flight of steps and announce, "I have eccymosis over the lateral malleolus.&

Enclosed are the steps involved, my point of view only. Very long post. sm
1. Make sure you have the qualifications. If you have EXCELLENT spelling and grammer skills, good typing skills, complete attention to the smallest details, and willingness to work HARD and learn constantly, you may have what it takes.

2. Realize that you will not learn this career in 1-2 years. That is a good beginning, but then you will have an "apprenticeship" period. This runs anywhere from 1-3 years, depending on the job you get, the training available there, and your ability to branch out and absorb a constantly changing field.

3. Do your homework on the training schools. Some schools offer a program that will actually help you get a job when finished; others have a reputation that will allow you to hire with some companies as a "newbie." Don't waste money on a school that gives you a certificate and sends you out on your own. You may find it difficult to get a job without experience, and can't get experience without a job. I am not recommending a school. DO A LOT OF RESEARCH. Every school has "lucky" graduates, so get a consensus from MANY graduates.

4. If you expect to make a fortune, look elsewhere. You will find "exceptions" that make anywhere from $50 to $100 thousand a year. Most of us with a lot of experience make anywhere from $30 - $50, depending on your speed and stamina. Without stamina, you'll burn out or develop physical problems in a couple of years.

5. VR will never replace transcription. However, it takes a lot of knowledge to "proof" VR reports, and as the machines get smarter, we also must have more experience to catch their errors. I do not foresee us being replaced by machines. It is possible, though, that the wages will not go up because of this, and most MTs will stay on a plateau. Not easy, when cost of living keeps going up, but right now it is a reality, so consider it.

This is my view of the MT field, and its future. I have 18 years experience and have worked on the web for 9, since being outsourced from a hospital. It's a rough field, but not impossible, and I'm happy with it. I only have 10 years to go, though. I'm not sure I would start it now, if I were younger. You have to have a lot of determination. Good luck to you.
Superior Global
Does anyone know anything about Superior Global?
SUPERIOR GLOBAL
Does anyone know anything good or bad about Superior Global Solutions out of Texas?
Superior Global
I have worked for Superior previously.  While I loved my job there as an editor, I work 24/7, literally.   It was very difficult editing for Indian MTs because there was no communication and they were not very good.  They are apparently going through some real financial difficulties at the moment.  They just lost their major account.
superior global
thanks
Superior Global
Not only did they lose the account, but they knew months in advance this was happening. Nothing was said to the MTs at all. They just went in to work and there was none. This is not to mention - paychecks bounce
superior global
Superior global wants basic 4 also, it is for clinical work only.  I will try the other one you posted.  Thank you :)
Try Superior Global

The last I heard, Superior Global Solutions out of Plano, Texas hired MTs fresh out of school, I am sure to do clinic notes, but that is a start anyways.  You are just going to have to start out doing any kind of MT work you can get your hands on, just anything to show you have actual work experience.  I was lucky and got started in this business over 20 years ago, learning on-the-job, but I know it's harder now days.

Global Transcription Network
Has anyone heard of the company "Global Transcription Network," was offered a job today.  Thanks bunches everyone.
Global Transccription Network
Where is the company located.  I worked for a company that bought out a company by that name.  If it is one in the same - do your best to run the other way.
Global Transcription Network
It is based out of Texas.

Global Medical Transcription
I checked out quite a few schools when I was looking. At the time the range was from around $700 for tapes to around $5000 or more for one of the more well-known schools. GMT was $2500. I had read on one of the boards that doing the tapes unsupervised, without anyone to explain things or ask questions of, was not a good idea. I thought that made sense.

I wanted a school that would train online and train in the use of FTP, etc. All the work was done via FTP at GMT.

I wanted a school that had some kind of placement program. GMT did, & I got hired by Medquist a couple of days after I graduated. I stayed there for about 9 months, then moved on & have been working ever since. I think the course was 6 months. It was not self-paced; you had to keep up. I was at my computer for at least 8 hours a day.

I liked GMT just fine. My instructor was great, there was some virtual classmate comaraderie, they encouraged us to use a word Expander right away, provided us with software & books. Everyone was nice & helpful, including the people working in accounting & registration, among other contacts.

I did check out a local community college that had an MT program. They had a prerequisite course that was not available until Fall (this was in April or so). You could not take any other classes until you had taken this one, & you could not take any other classes concurrently. I remember estimating that it would have taken me more than 3 years to get through the program. The JC was cheaper, but not when I took 3 years of living expenses into account. I decided to go the shorter, full-time, more expensive route because I wanted to be working sooner.

I liked GMT & am glad I went through their program. But they were hard to find, didn't advertise much, & now I think they went out of business. I just tried their web address & the link was dead. It's not because it was a bad school. It's just that no one knew about them.

Global Trans in Florida

I posted this on the company forum, but no one replied.  I thought maybe it was overlooked.  Does any work for or know anything about Global Transcription in Florida?  Thanks a bunch

Anyone work for Global Transcription Network
Any comments? I'm a new hire, and looking for any feedback. Based out of Arlington TX.
Superior Global Solutions and Futurenet...sm

I heard Superior Global Solutions does not get your pay to you.  Futurenet, I have read here does not have any benefits and runs out of work.  Also here are a few other bad ones I have seen and read on here:  SoftScript, Spheris, and good/bad about Transcend.

The good ones in which I have read have been all of the MDIs.  Have not had any experience with them though..Good luck!

Man, its HOT in Indiana! Talk about global warming!

You are in a global market now Darlene. If she doesn't do it, someone overseas will.

you must say YES to saving the global template when you exit Word each day. sm
If you are not prompted to save your global template each time you close Word, then do the following:
On the Word tool bar go to Options, then Save, then make sure the box next to Prompt to Save Normal Template is checked.
yep, global warming? But projected path is Galveston due to high pressure &

Do it correct always. It will learn. Everyone has to do it correct all the time. nm

Global warming my Aunt Fannie... Check history, there have been numerous cycles like this

If you are careful with putting the correct report in the correct report shell and patient, you will
not have any problems. I only take away this option when someone is careless. There can be NO room for error on this. One mistake can be very serious. Many do it well though, so just double check and you will be fine.

okay, you are correct of course, except
The below posters are correct, of course. I called my boss and they said, "No, this would PROBABLY be against the privacy laws." About the 'Googling" of names, however, the only reason I have been Googling names is because the doctors won't SPELL THEM OUT, and my accounts are not 'searchable'. I do not use any info besides just the name...no SS #... if I find a Verbatio Kertalino (not a real name)in Google in the correct city, I can be pretty darn sure this is the correct person. If there is any specific reason I should not do this, I will stop, but I do not think so! If you posters are pretty SURE this is not ethical, I will call my boss and ask about that also! I use Google also, of course, to look up the spellings of local businesses and hospital and clinic names that they do not spell out. Otherwise, every single report would go to QA! And, if you can't post in a courteous manner, please do not bother posting at all!
That is correct
Any useful tips that a QA member can provide an MT is great. Expansions, websites, etc. If I fill in a blank, I would be apt to send an MT a link to go along with it where she can find it and bookmark it for later use.
5 gm is the correct way nm
x
You are very correct...
and it IS bad, but ya know something? I'm thinking that even we poor MQer's have it made compared to those in New Orleans. I know I finding myself b******* a lot less these days (rare for me lol!). Just my 2 cents (which you're right about - that will soon be the going rate at MQ lol)....
whether to correct
I certainly do correct. I've had them mention hysterectomies in males and such.
Let me correct something here
I agree with you that there is something wrong with having NO WORK. Keep in mind though, that a lot of these people were complaining just for the mere fact that they had several accounts and couldn't remember all the client specifics and not because they were out of work!
you are probably correct
The poor thing obviously has some serious issues.
That is correct.
nm
Correct way
BOS 2 says 10 to the 5th
She may be correct
She was probably speaking of 1% of the TOTAL JOBS through the U.S., not merely the segment of MT. She might also have sidestepped those with Green Cards who are working in this country. You see that with programming positions. And then there's that segment of jobs that people in this country don't want to do (i.e. scrubbing toilets), so the illegal aliens do that.

Look at the forest rather than the tree.
