Yep, I am rich, that's why I sitting here typing in the middle of the night!
Of course when I'm done, I'm gonna hop in the limo and have Jeeves take me to NYC to breakfast and get my hair and nails done.  Wanna go?  There's room in the back.  I mean, it is a limo!
My middle schooler is being taught the changes in typing class.

IMO, in the real world common sense is better to have than a high IQ. nm

I was taught two spaces in high school typing class
places want only one space. BOS (pg 66, 2nd Ed) says either/or but be consistent, and that it is usually is set by company/client, but I've definitely noticed that most MTSOs want only one space and that's how I always do it now.
Wants high quality finished product at 3 cpl editing and 6-8 cpl straight typing. Also rumored she
doesnt like to pay in a timely manner. I passed..
It's both the schools and co.'s fault. Schools are trying to kick em' out as soon as they
"graduate" and companies are very willing to hire anyone who says "they went to this school or that." I know. I've been there as a former instructor.

I truly believe that not everyone has what it takes to become a good MT. And I mean good. You absolutely cannot guess on anything - and I would stress this over and over to my students at all times. You have to know how to spell, and you have to have basic, or beyond basic, grammar knowledge.

My classes would normally start out at 15 to 17. And by the end of the first week it would go down to about 10. And then after that I would graduate around 8 or so. I would tell them straightforward that this job entails - the skills you must have to do this work - and I probably did turn a few of them away. But when they had it, and I knew they could do this work (I could usually tell by the first 5 papers they turned in) then I would encourage them over and over. I would call them, meet with them, and tell them to stick it out, and that I thought they had found their "spot" in life....That's what my MT instructor did for me many years ago and I am so grateful for her.

I know these gals and guys want to be at home with their young ones - hey, I do too! But as an editor also, I believe that some are just not cut out for this.

Also, I find acute care a lot less challenging than actual clinic work! I have been editing clinic work here lately and boy have I found that to be challenging. It is very, very specific. If they can do clinic work no problem, then they should train on acute care too.

Just my humble opinion.

Oh, as for VR. No, newbies cannot do that right now. You need people with editing background who know thousands upon thousands of words to edit VR. I don't think schools care about training them for VR - just graduate them with the basic knowledge and get a job doing clinic work! Yeah, if it were that easy!
Probably not much you can do, but at least notify
.
I ask them to notify me when she is going to take off - sm
and they are pretty good about letting me know. Every now and then they forget though; and she switches her days about on me sometimes. When that happens (they upload at 6pm or so) I just do it the next day and shift things about if necessary. All you can do is ask them to advise you when he is going to be off and hope they do. Also if you are going away, take a laptop and have it set up for work so you can check for work anywhere you happen to be; otherwise you would never go visit friends, relatives, etc.
Notify your boss
Depending on the company you work for, you might get results.  It's very frustrating when you see something that needs changed but are powerless.  When working for Edix, I had a patient that had the exact same condition my son has and there was a new treatment that had saved his life, yet her doctor did not know about it and she was at the point of being near death and only in her 20s.  I emailed my supervisor and asked them to please notify the doctor of the information I sent and they said nope, no way, against the law.  That was nearly 3 years ago and still bothers me wondering how the patient turned out.
I am an IC and I work when I want. I notify them when I
can work. They do not tell me when to work.
Notify the police that this guy is in the area and tell

If the recipient does not acknowledge mail receipt, Outlook will not notify you.

Yes a SCAM, huge email fraud..they would notify you CERTIFIED MAIL or lawyer would call

combo MT/MC classes

I am thinking of taking a Medical Transcription class.  My sister who is a Physician's Assistant tells me I should do coding instead.  Does anyone know anything about the combo classes and whether they are a good idea and if they prepare you enough?

Thanks

Dance Classes
I have 20+ years of dance training (ballet, jazz, tap).  From what I see, jazz and hip-hop would both help with drill team.  Jazz more so, but I know some drill teams are getting a little edgier with the hip-hop style.  If I can help with any other questions, feel free to email me.
Do you think they will pay for my spelling classes??? lol

I got to take some training classes...
that were provided to me free by my employer, which helped me learn the basic concepts. Then I just tried to start thinking outside the box a little bit, looking for things that annoyed me that I could change by using IT. Basically any sequence of keys or commands you type on the keyboard, you can program into IT. So for example it drives me CRAZY when a doctor starts dictating a paragraph and then says #2 when he didn't say #1, or the other way around, when he always says #1 and then there's no #2 and my account rules are that you have to fix that. So I wrote down the combination of keys that it took to go up to the top of the paragraph, take the number out and then drop back down to the bottom, and I made a shortcut out of it. You can use the command function in IT to insert things like ctrl/shift and the up arrow to take you to the beginning of the paragraph or the search/replace command to change Diagnosis to Diagnoses. I just kept track of what keys I was typing to do certain things and then made an entry for those. Some of them took some tweaking but once I got them exactly right they make my day go much more smoothly. There's also a website, I believe it's www.productivitytalk.com, that gives a lot of tips and tricks to use with IT. Hope that helps.
I took coding classes and took the
test, which is about 5 hours long, passed it on the first try, have my credentials, but haven't done any coding at all, just MT work. I am considering going to coding bootcamp to brush up on my skills and bite the bullet and just do it. There are many work at home jobs available, but just like being an MT, the best thing is to work in-house for a couple of years to get some experience and then work at home. Have a couple of friends who did that and they love it.
take grammar classes
It is
'You are stupid' or you're stupid', not 'your stupid'.

And don't take things out of CONTEXT.
I teach classes online.

Does anyone take dance classes for exercise?
I'd like to get out of the house once in a while and can't stand the gym.  I just don't want to be the only adult student among children.  LOL
MTWerks has some training classes on IT. sm
http://www.mtwerks.com/InstantText.htm

I have not personally done any of her IT classes, but I did once go to a seminar she held in my area and I learned a lot of computer/word based shortcuts. She is or was an MT and has come up with these seminars/classes to help productivity for MTs, more in the "keeping the hands on the keyboard" kind of thinking rather than using mouse, etc. It helped me tremendously and I still use a lot of her tips.

Someone also posted on her maybe a year or so ago a website that had a lot of tips about naming your shortcuts/expanders and how to remember them, but I cannot recall what website it was. Maybe do a Google search and see what you can find?
Check out the classes and hang in there anyway...
Does your hospital provide funds for continuing education? Can you change shifts? Don't out-and-out quit just yet, you truly don't know how good you probably have it if you've been working for a hospital and not for a national. I pine for my hourly pay hospital days, ha-ha, though a lot of what went on got on my nerves at the time. Good luck but again, give it a lot of thought, take a few days off if you can.
There is no charge for grads to take the classes.
I just finished the course and signed up for the classes and did not pay a dime. You may be confused by the $50 Review Guide that is recommended to study with.
Roman: Stages. Numerals: Classes (nm)

A girl in one of my classes volunteers as a doula -
I think it's a pretty neat idea, although this girl is about 22, very cute with a slender little body, and has never had a child before!  But actually she does have the personality for it; very compassionate and caring.
P.S. Channel some energy into agility classes
perhaps! Sounds like a great candidate if he/she can jump and get your sunglasses! Lots of classes for agility in most areas, and lots of fun for dog and owner, not to mention exercise! Woof!
Help, cant remember classes and stages roman numerals???

HELP. can never remember...stages are roman??? classes are ??? grades are ???? HELP

Don't forget,10% of the drs in this country were in the bottom 10% of their graduating classes.

For mom with teen girls, what type of dance classes sm
are appropriate for learning moves to try out for drill team?  my daughter is 14 and has never been in any dance classes.  i am puzzled by the jazz, hip/hop, etc. and have no clue where she needs to start.  she wants to try out for the drill team next year.  TIA!
I teach literacy classes. Do it. You'll be glad you did.

B.S. in HIM, no MT school, OTJ training for that skill, but the HIM classes for the knowledge. nm

middle-aged MT
What do you consider middle-aged?
Advice for middle age
Middle age can be a bitch. It can start in the 40's or 50's. Best advice? First check your overall health with healthcare provider. Lose weight if need be. Exercise. Walking is the best. Ever day. I have been taking pilates, and whoah, does that change your body and mind. Makes you lean and long, lithe and strong. Keep the mind stimulated. READ. Read about a variety of subjects. Keep an open mind. Question everything. Hang around young people, learn from them, but keep your dignity and class. Don't try to dress like them. They can learn from use too. Do fun things. LAUGH, a lot. That helps! And best advice - have a circle of girlfriends who support you and can laugh along with you!!
Once was middle class.

I was going to agree with you at first, but....  There is always food on the table, bills are paid.  Have pretty much what I need, but as I get older I care about having a lot less.  Certainly not rich, neither of us will be able to retire any time soon, although had we planned better, we might have been able to.  So I guess that put's us sort of in the middle, huh?

Hardly. We will always have and need a middle class.
The middle class is supporting everyone. This is a socialistic society.

I work and make money to pay for my stuff.

I work and make money to pay for YOUR stuff.

Believe me, there is a need for a middle class in a society like this one. They're just apprehensive to use the "S" word because it sounds too much like *gasp* Communism!
Yes, we will always NEED a middle class,
but don't think it will ALWAYS be there....just look around you.... Maybe when the rich have to take care of the "working poor" we will see a turn-around, but then again maybe they'll just "forget" them.  Don't have much faith in this economy.  The poor are being ripped of any programs that existed just a few years ago.  By the time the "middle class" hits bottom, there will be no help, no kind of any social programs in existance, just the rich and poor.  Which will you be?  Yeah, yeah, I'm pessimistic, but also realistic.
I have a middle easterner that
has a lisp (sounds like his tongue is 4 inches thick) and speed dictates. He is Pakistani. It is indescribable and I sometimes feel like I'm slipping over the sanity brink when I type him.
Flexible is my middle name! nm

Do you have the one that is split once in the middle or (sm)
Thanks for answering. Do you have the one split once in the middle or the one that is split in 3 pieces?
If you don't like the middle man -- get your own accounts
Be the boss, get your own accounts and then you can't yell at us for taking 20 to 30% of the line count to make sure you get paid, the account is happy, TAT is met, we cover all vacations, sudden illnesses, and just not working.   If you don't like working for someone and think that we as owners have it so great, have the guts to go out and get your own accounts and see how you like all the unpaid time you have to put into your business.
Middle Eastern. I don't know why.
I can do the others with no problem at all, but there's something about the vocal tone that I literally cannot hear it properly.
best schools
What are the best online schools that will guarantee a job? Are there any under $2000? Thanks.
top 3 schools
I know this has been posted, but doggone if I can find in the archives.  Friend looking into MT training.  What are the top 3 schools?  Thanks Karen
Top 3 MT schools
I just read about this and they are on the www.aamt.org web site--they are:
M-Tec, Andrews & CareerStep.
Some schools
I graduated from M-Tec. I am constantly getting e-mails for job opportunities from them even 2 years later. Andrews is also good and there is a third one that is mentioned here a lot that I always forget the name of. With any of these schools, you should be able to get an entry-level job with a national company. Whether your local doctors/hospitals feel the same way is questionable. My locals weren't impressed with my online education.

Rates: Avg for newbs is 6 to 7 cpl. Take that times 1200 lines for an average wage. Double it for an upper estimate. Even for experienced transcriptionists, it is really topping out at 8-9 cpl max. And this rate will probably continue to go down in the coming years, just as difficulty of the dictation goes up. (The easy stuff really is going to EMR/VR and overseas.

Remember you will probably be an IC so will have to pay all your own taxes and equipment. Just because you are considered an independent contractor, don't expect to be treated like one by a transcription service. Most want you to log in and log out during certain specified hours of the day, and they might not be the best hours for you. Most will expect you work at least 1 weekend day every week as well and probably even holidays (don't expect a higher rate either).
