my ex quite working a legal job so he doesn't have to pay support.  my 3 yo son was able to get insurance through the state but it was very hard to get (and didn't keep it) they don't cover that much. the state keeps rewriting the laws and cut benefits each time.  I'm an ic and have my own health ins for my son and myself. I'm robbing peter to pay paul right now and probably will be for a long time.  we're doing without a lot of things so that I don't have to take a job outside of the house not to mention that I couldn't afford full time child care.   I would try getting extra side jobs so that you could stay home.   I worked 3 jobs for 2 years and went down to one job that promised full time work a couple of months ago and needless to say they haven't kept up their end of the deal-as usual-so I'm looking to pick up at least 1 other job.  the peace of mind knowing that I'm here and flexible, especially if my son gets sick, isn't worth trading right now.

But why sign it to put the past behind? The past should have

It seems that they dredged up the past by wanting the release signed to keep them out of trouble for unfair employment practices.  Usually when a person ends the working relationship, they give formal written notice, the company accepts the notice, and the employment is over.  Smells pretty fishy to send a termination agreement and, oh by the way, sign this release.  LOL

Anybody know what living in Ky is like?

You want to make a living don't you?
Then you listen to idiot dictators.  You want to be in the spotlight and be on TV, stay in Aruba.  You want to grieve the loss of your daughter privately, stay at home and appoint a spokesperson.  You ultimately make choices about what you do based on facts and necessities.  It is NOT NECESSARY for Mrs. Twitty to be in Aruba or if she decides she rests more easily in Aruba it is NOT NECESSARY for her to give press conferences acusing people of being criminals or incompetency.
the living conditions

The only life they know is confinement and pain.  From the little I let myself watch, they have absolutely no room to move, they are crammed and shoved in together.  They don't get to roam and do whats natural to them outdoors.  They are being born and raised primarily to be brutalized for crop.  Like a canned food factory.  They get their body parts cut off, injuries from other animals, and have to live in physical pain until they are ready to be put out of their misery for whatever purpose they serve.

In all honesty, I absolutely love meat and enjoy it on rare occasions, and it is meant for us to consume.  There is another way to do it!  They cannot be treated as if they do not have feelings, they 'feel' pain, the mother's are distressed when their calves are taken away, the calves are scared, you see it in their eyes, as another living thing, you have got to connect with this.  Its an awful way for any living thing to go through, even in a short time.

I can see being raised on a farm, room to roam, be outside, run, eat normally, socialize with their breed, have a life.  They do not know the better that they are being raised for our consumption, there are living in peace without pain and living freely.  Being crammed, thrown around, beaks cut off, having throats slit, hung upside down while still alive thriving in pain is not a peaceful life.

Sounds like you are living beyond
your means or you've got absolutely the lowest paying 3 positions in the world, which still means you are living beyond your means if you can't afford to simply live.

The house pymt, car pymt and utilities and food -- those things are supposed to be put on "the paper" when you budget.

I feel for you but something truly isn't adding up here. I don't believe you're in as hot water as you say. SOunds like either super poor money mgmt or a strange sense of priorities.

Either way, good luck.

wouldn't that be the living end?

Talk about production!!!

However, that only works if the person who has dictated the voice file is also the one who trained Dragon on the system. IOW, Dr Smith has DNS 8 Med Suite in his office, and he's trained it enough to provide a good level of accuracy. He can dictate into the mobile unit, say, after seeing a patient, but things still have to be in the same manner that he dictates into DNS on his home system. He can give the voice file to his office manager to upload and do the editing.

But you can't do that with Dr Smith's dictation, unless Dr Smith has sat at your computer and trained it. As soon as you input the voice file, your system will give you a great big "do what?"

I hope this explains things better.

Look at working for a living like this: (SM)

YOU don't work for SOMEONE/COMPANY.  You work for yourself (even if you're an employee).  I say that because you are working to provide your own needs, not those of whomever benefits from your work.  You arre responsible for providing for yourself and it is your personal responsibility to make sure your own needs are met.  If the beneficiary of your need to work (i.e., pay bills, earn money, whatever) is not providing what you need, you owe it to yourself to take care of yourself and find enough work to achieve that goal.

Now, I'm not saying don't have a team attitude or be selfish, demanding, negative, self centered, but when you think about it, NO one is going to take better care of you than YOU!  If you are sitting around waiting for someone else to take care of you, then you are not taking care of yourself.  Get proactive!  Find a supplement source of income.  The first company doesn't need to know what you are doing...besides, if you are an IC, by IRS guidelines, YOU are in control, not them.  They only need you IF they need you and have no obligation to be reliable in meeting your financial needs.

Really meaning to help.

Cost of living
Could someone live comfortably in the Phillipines on $2000 per month net with adult and 1 teenager?
Living in the Philipines
I'm sure that is a lot of money to them...however, I'm quite happy here in the US...I'm not sure many people could live the life they live there or would want to.  It's a beautiful place, but lots of poverty...A friend of mine married a girl from there years ago, and she told me stories...so, I'm thankful to be in the US
8 cpl. is too low for ANYONE living and working

what does Mr. Jug Twitty do for a living? And what about Jar, his brother.

They are all staying in Aruba.  How can they take off of work indefinitely even if they aren't wealthy and took a second mortgage on their house.

PS:  I doubt very much a resort town is giving away free services to these people and their entourage.  This is how a resort makes money you know.  Especially when you are there criticizing their government and call citizens criminal who have been released from jail for lack of evidence.

Considering the high cost of living in.....
Florida, you are giving away your services.  Out in California they're getting 12-14 cents a line, and that was 5 yrs ago.
More on high cost of living...
That is right about California; in fact, over 15 cents is common, particularly for docs and administrators who are interested in keeping the work local.
not kill any living thing?
oH, what about the plants? are they not living? some worship them too...and NO. I will not leave my God out of anything. My God is in me and I in Him. I will not try to separate one from the other. Sorry if my faith bothers you.
with cost of living going up and MT wages

How much do you think you would need to make a good living.  Meaning enough to cover all bills, enough to put some away for a rainy day, and enough to play, like dinners, hobbies, maybe a weekend getaway twice a year.  Be realistic.  I'm thinking for me, since i'm single, 50k a year.

Second question.  If you hadnt gotten trapped in MT, what profession do you see yourself in maybe even earning way more than you can imagine, doing what you love?  For me, it would be psychotherapist.

anyone???  ANYONE ???

true...but they are living proof that
at least 6 times he was heterosexual lol.
What is the cost of your living expenses? sm

I would really like to know this as mine seem high.  My cost for the bare minimum, not including insurance, medical costs or entertainment, is about $1,800.00 per month.

Is that high to most people?  TIA.

you have a bargin cost of living!
Wow!!!! What I wouldn't give to have that as an expense! Here's mine - I live in Ventura County, California, and in one of the most expensive towns of Ventura.
House payment - $2,200.00,
insurances, all - $400.00 a month, utilities - $700.00 a month - electricity, cable is out of sight here and gas is almost double now, let's see, food, gas and personals - about $1,000.00 a month - wow!! It hurts to see it let alone pay it! (of course my home is now worth almost a million with the artifical inflate prices of real estate here).
Of course, that's basic living *grin* ...... nm
xx
It depends what you consider a good living (sm)

Some only need $150 a month for rent so the low pay would be fine.

But if you are pulling your hair out for less than what unemployment pays, I'd take the unemployment.

no brainer, take it unless your cost of living....
in New York prohibits you from being able to live in a reasonable fashion on that. did you say UNION!!! Your pay will increase way more than the rest of us will ever see!
to make it official, not living in sin, tax
nm
Not living in sin? Isn't homosexuality a sin according to the Bible?
Married or not.
I bet there are a lot of MT's on this board living with significant others (sm)
Is one sin worse than another?  Maybe we better take this to the religion board.  You've got my dander up now.
I'm with you ... I get enough reality just with my daily living. sm

Kinda nice to get lost and just veg with my Law & Order and CSI addictions :)

Obviously, I'm in the minority since they seem to come up with more and more reality shows .... I admit to watching the Biggest Loser a couple of times, but I can't imagine being "hooked" and watching it all of the time, sitting on the edge of my seat.

Can't say I make a great living, but...
I support myself, my disabled husband, and also have 2 grown children at home, which the one pays his bills, but the other is having problems. We are buying our home, paying for our car, and still have enough to eat out a couple of times a week. I make more at home than if I go back out into the work place.
There are transitional living houses available to help.
I too was in your position. My husband would beat me all the time and was verbally abusive. I got started in this business so I could leave him. Luckily, one day while at the ER getting patched up yet again, a doctor took the time to explain to my husband the consequences of wife beating. He looked at my husband like he was pond scum and threatened to have him arrested. He has not hit me since. I wish you luck. There are transitional houses that let you live there with your children while you save up enough money to get a place of your own. They even help with that (usually pay deposit and help furnish). If counseling or talking it out with him does not help, you could try this. Good luck!
for poster who wanted to know about living in KY

I lived there as a transplant for about 10 years -- My answers might be more helpful if you had specific questions and/or what part of the state you are talking about -- e/m me.

I had a child living at home when....sm

When I first opened up the small MTSO in '97, I still had a child at home.  Once she left, I turned her room into the room for the national I work for and is a formal office but also serves as a guest bedroom.  The private MDs I do in my master bedroom (it's huge!!!!! not bragging but it's really a huge room) and is just the way I had it set up when my daughter was still living at home right thru 2000, her bedroom was the 2nd bedroom and was NOT an office until she left, nor did I work for this national until she left home (she lives around the corner from me, like 2 miles *L*).  It would be a huge undertaking for me to put them both into one room now.  And if I do not stay with the national, down the road, well there will be absolutely no problem there.  Anyone else I take on, I would put in the master bedroom to do their work today.

hope that all made sense......*lol*

Try living in france if you think you have problems (sm)
being young and needing a job.
I know I'm living in the dark ages, but
what is orchiette? (If you don't mind my asking.)
Scary world we are living in.
I just get upset that after an incident at my son's middle school a couple of weeks ago, they didn't think it was a big deal to take a student's threats seriously. I don't feel safe sending my kids to school and we live in a village (that underpopulated). I have been checking into home schooling this week to see what is out there for that.
I get $23.50/hr. in N. Calif, which is still low for cost of living. nm

Try living in the southeast and listen
to the local news. It is just horrible to listen to city leaders, school teachers etc.. bothch up the English language. They all use ain't and add "ed" to many different words. I was flipping through the TV one day and heard the word "nexted", what is that?
If you make a living with your PC, it pays to
x
Yes. You're a US citizen, living in the US and using the
services that taxes pay for.
living small and frugal
1. Living paycheck to paycheck: No, never again, will strive the rest of my life to live below my means and put something from every paycheck away for a rainy day. Helps I'm divorced, no kids, no medical problems. My only debt is my mortgage. Have been able to avoid using a credit card, no cable TV for years and don't miss it. Thank God for Aldi, dollar stores and great thrift stores for clothes, furniture and household goods, the fact I can work from home, am within walking/bus distance from nearly all I need and truly don't even need a car right now (am saving to pay cash for the next one). I stockpile canned goods, keep the freezer full and love my own cooking, ha-ha. (My "entertainment" is a good library book or a bootleg/free movie on my PC, a candy bar and pot of my own coffee).
2. Yes, think I could get myself reemployed pretty quickly, if not in 1 payperiod, hopefully within 2. I'm within walking distance of a Manpower and keep an updated resume.
3. Yes, have a 401K, a small annuity (don't want to touch those) and savings to pay my household bills if need be.
Almost 3 for me - no cost of living raises. - NM

Because the cost of living is higher here. Still, that
Which is exactly what it is - DISCRIMINATION based on where an applicant lives.
Not to mention that cost of living has gone up
I'm bringing home $2000/month and it's sending me right into foreclosure. My mortgage payment is a 'mere' $750/month, but add to that a car payment ($360), insurance ($200), electric ($150), water ($50), internet ($80), satellite TV ($50), for a total of about $1630, leaving me $370. After I pay that, I am supposed to give my daughter $300/month toward college expenses- room, food, books, etc. That means I get $70/month to feed and clothe myself. Five years ago, I was able to provide my son $1300/month for school and I paid $1500/month rent then...W2s from then show I was making $60,000 year. But in this brave new multinational world with the 'be glad you've got a job' mentality, we're tearing out each others' throats for the privilege of earning peanuts (which at least provide me protein).

So be glad I've got a job? Yeah, chicken ramen noodles are better than just plain noodles. That doesn't make them good.
Have gotten as much as $3,000 in the past.

The hospital I worked for for 28 years (as a medical lab technologist) always gave us a Christmas bonus. This ranged from $3,000 one year in the 80s down to an orange (yeah, a piece of fruit) and a calendar a few years later. It usually averaged, though, around $200 or so. It always depended on the hospital profit for that year.

The clinic I work for now gives us $100 and a really fancy dinner-dance party (that I don't ever attend).

I have used it in the past
I had it before I got DSL.  Never had any problems at all. Lots of local numbers to call into.  Never really had problems getting bumped off.  Never had problems with busy signals.   Just was really slooowww  (as is any dial up).  I paid a few dollars more a month for the "accelerated" version.  It was supposed to be faster, but I didn't notice any difference.    I would definitely recommend it as far as dial up goes, though.
I have done this in the past and have just taken another
full time position with another company.  If you are motivated enough, then go for it.  The only advice I can offer is if they are both full time jobs with full time line requirements not hours, when the first full time job picks back up, are you going to be able to do both jobs full time?  That is the only problem I had but I was able to do it just fine.
his past was his past........if you...sm

If you have never learned in life that yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a *gift*, that's why we call it present...and to forgive what was years ago and condemn him in his 60s and continually name-call him, such as *perv* - you apparently have the personality disorder.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, just as I am.....so like I said - go into the mirror.......and become introspective before you name-call....

oh, and your history is 100% perfect?  Oh, I get it - you have no faults from the past or prefer to point out everyone else's faults or past.

'tis all in the attitude.......

My past
Hope my "name" doesn't bother anyone, but I just couldn't help but post.

I can relate to how you are feeling about your friend. I suffered from secondary infertility (I had a child but when she turned 2 I started trying to have another and couldn't). I found a web site where I could post and formed many friendships. Most were women who had NO children. My heart went out to them.

The web site is
www.INCIID.org if your friend wants to check it out. I have formed lifelong friendships with several I met on there.

End of my story is that after 9 years of fertility treatments (torture!!!) and 2 miscarriages along the way (worse than torture!!!!) I finally went the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) route and got my twins. My family is now complete. It was a very long, hard haul though. So anyone considering fertility treatmens should keep that in mind. Emotionally and financially. To consider taking out a loan for $15,000 for a one-shot deal at IVF was excruciating. Especially after my doc only gave me a 10% chance of it working.

Sorry, I didn't mean to write a book. I just want to be a source of hope for someone who is going through infertiltiy and miscarriage. It has scarred me, that's true, but these babies make up for the pain of those years. Wishing your friend the best!
I have in the past. I have to
change the covers frequently. If you run out, just rig covers made from clean, soft, thin cloth or Kleenex. I wrap the tissue around it, cut off excess, and secure with small rubber bands. Aaaaaah!

Lots of MTs have ear problems. After showers, dry out ears with an astringent on a Q-Tip, being very gentle. You can even hold 2 Q-tips together to make them too large to accidently jab too deep. Dry out excess astringent with dry ends of Q-tip and don't put on headphones until air-dried completely. If skin is oily, you can use wipe the entire ear and behind with witchhazel to normalize the ear skin and avoid irritation. I can even use alcohol or 2% salicylic acid on my ears. Feels great to oily skin.
I have seen this in the past also
I did training for the small service I worked for, and have worked with new grads all the way up to 20+ years' experience and had a very different focus training each. The older MTs (exp. not age) who had received no QA did have trouble adjusting sometimes; some were more demoralized by it, no matter how kindly it was delivered, and some would get angry and say things like "I've always done it this way and no one has complained." And some had difficulty with the computer programs we used, more so than the newer MTs. I would think that latter problem would be even more pronounced now with all the fancy software out there.

So I think I get she's saying, but on the other hand, I don't think it was too smart or tactful for her to say it and be quoted for it! I've always thought you need a mix of MTs for a healthy environment, newer and "older"!
How do get past the
frustration of KNOWING QA changes are incorrect?  Working at Chronicle I had one good QA person I was dealing with and would send me what they call a comparison report.  Then when I typed on a different shift and asked for a finished report I noted that many of the blanks I had left were still there BUT there were also things changed that I KNOW were incorrect?  As an MT, are we within our rights to question QA changes and also the experience level of the QA?  Viewing the particular changes made in my instance, there is no way this QA person carried any kind of experience.
