no biggie, Linda was class act, Heather N_O_T

When the GROWN-UP kids (in their 30s) don't like the second wife, something is not right in Glocamora.  While I wasn't all that fond of Linda, she was a CLASS act and was the daughter of Eastman-Kodak fame.  Everyone remember the Brownie Cameras from the 1940s-1950s?  That was Linda's family as I remember it or the Eastman's hooked up with the Kodak family right around then or in the very very early 60s.  My short-term memory isn't that good (isn't that the first to go after the eyes start?  *lol*) but my long-term is on target most times.  *lol*

Heather vs Linda
Well in my opinion, Heather never had a leg to stand on compared to Linda.
Agree that Linda was a class act, but...

She wasn't from that Eastman family.

Yes, no, no biggie either way
I dont know about it.  Two companies that I worked for were sold right from under our noses.  The rumors were there and of course the major denial.  Denial by the owners, the workers at the main office.  In one case, one week after the owner denied it, there was an email stating we were sold.  Of course no employee is going to spill the beans before corporate gives the okay to discuss it or sends out their own letter/email informing the workers.  However, the ones working with the main employees know, such as the owners secretary, etc., but they are not going to jeopardize their own jobs by telling.  I read with interest how some called their local MQ offices and asked.  Get real, do you think they are going to tell a home worker who they dont even know what is going on when corporate hasnt given the okay yet?  Like I said, I had this happen to me two times..strong denials up until the very end.  Besides, it might be better if MQ is sold, maybe we will all be guaranteed more work..and I would not worry about losing the job..In both of my experiences, they keep the employee on.
Yup - no biggie

On your notification, you should have formal instructions about request for being excused from JD.  You are a medical professional, self-employed, and if it creates a hardship you need to state so - do not wait until you are scheduled to appear, take care of this in advance.   Usually, it's the prothonotary's office but may be different in your state.  Just follow the rules in the paperwork you received.  You may again be asked to serve again in 6 months or later on.

You have no control over what JD pool you are in - worst case - some court cases can take months and most MTs would lose everything if required to sit every day for entire trial.

No biggie :o). This way I don't even hit it
It's only air and I'm getting used to not straying too far from the correct key :o). Thanks, though!
I have. No biggie. It was really kind of SM
fun for me, because I got to watch it. Amazing to the doc AND me because he couldn't believe what he was seeing. My symptoms weren't even that bad but woweee did I have horrible reflux.
Billing once a month is not a biggie BUT
do it on a Net 10 or Net 15. Never a Net 30. You could end up doing 2 months work for free eventually. No account is worth that.
Loss of Qtr. bonus not a biggie to me. Will stay. (sm)
I am only part time SE so I really don't get much in the way of quarterly bonuses, on the other hand though I would enjoy having some PTOs accrue and participation in a 401K.

I will just wait and see what comes. I understand there are some offices that don't get the quarterly bonus, so in an attempt to make everything "uniform" I wouldn't be surprised if they redid that bonus program.

Speculation and guess-timations are about all we have for now.

Heather
A couple of things (offered in kindness):

1. It is not a good idea to sign on to this or any other chat board with your name, for many reasons.

2. If the "company" will not pay you, what makes you think your own clients will? What will you do then?

Sounds to me like you need to take some basic business management courses. This is not a criticism; just a suggestion offered in a friendly way.
LOL...you're hilarious! It's mindless (harmless) fun, that's all. No biggie. NM
d
for Linda
What do you mean by....'then I pay interest on the dividends here?' Shouldn't you get the interests from the bank?
Where did you buy the stocks, in Britain or in the US?
I think Linda may be right sm
I have 15 yrs in this biz. I have worked for everyone, or so it seems to me (not really). My resume? ONE page with the highlights of my MT work. It is NOT very detailed. I have my name, location (not home address), phone number and email at the top. Under that, I have my education limited to high school, the college I graduated from (I had had to transfer twice and I don't put them all), and my MT training. Under that, I have something like this:

2006-2007 - XYZ Transcriptions, Inc. - OP notes 12 specialities, 60% ESLs
2004-2006 - ABC Timely Transcriptions, LLC - Acute care Basic 4, heavy OP notes.

It is the time when I did it, limited to year only, the name of the company, and BRIEFLY what I did there. References are strictly available upon request. Any place I worked which won't demonstrate a time line or won't show some experience they are looking for, is dropped. I have my very first MT job on it because that is the year I started and I tried to make it look continuous because my experience is without a break.

I have had great success with this resume. My FT job hired me because it didn't sound like I was breaking my arm patting myself on the back. There was no bragging, no padding, nothing about how wonderful I may or may not be. They told me they hired me without testing (not the norm) because that resume was incredibly dry and the information it gave was straight up, no frills! This is actually what my account manager told me and I found it funny, but in thinking about it I see her point about it being a fairly humble little resume with loads of good experience on it.

By the time you have done it as long as you (the OP) and I have, you really shouldn't need to lie, embellish, purdy up, frilly out a resume. You can afford to be dry and plain because your experience will say it all...you don't have to.
Yeah and now she is insinuating that Heather
was actually having an affair and with, of all people, David Spade?!?! What's up with that? LOL
Obviously, Heather didn't - but I'll take
I will always LOVE the Beatles.  I LOVE YOU - YEA, YEA, YEA!
Well.....I guess Heather Mills said NO to that one. LOL!

for Linda......see inside
As far as I know a surviving spouse has not to pay taxes on her inheritance.
But in this case maybe you have go pay taxes on the dividends you get. But only if the interests you get exceed $ 1500.--/yearly.
That's what I know, but better to check with an expert.

reply to Linda

To Linda.  I was wondering about that and was going to reply and say something did not seem right.  Things just became a little confused here as you say.  I am for U.S. jobs and I think you are to.  That feels better!

How about Denise Richards/Heather Locklear.

I think you're talking about Heather Headley .nm

Way to go Linda! Awesome gift!
:-)
As "Aunt Linda" would say...oh buruther.
I am an excellent Transcriptionist with 7 years of experience and 9 years in the field of medicine who has been described by the bosses who initially trained me as "a natural" and can't find a job paying me what I made as a summer student worker the day after I graduated high school. I have done practically every type of transcription there is...and done it well, mind you...but since I cannot work every weekend or odd shifts (I do have to take care of my kid and just because I am working at home, doesn't mean I can take care of my child...cook dinner, clean, read stories, etc., and work at the same time)I am jobless and the only offers seem to be 7 or 8 cpl for third shift Sunday through Thursday. This is why there are no "qualified" MT's in the industry, as you put it. Because we are treated like garbage. Who in their right mind would become an MT if they are halfway intelligent anymore? I'm out as soon as I can find something else (I'll resort to being a receptionist at this point), and you know what, its the industry's loss...not mine.
Heather knows David Spade since 10th grade
David Spade and Heather Locklear were in the 10th grade together so they have a long history......they did try dating this past year but that didn't work, according to David on TV just the other night.
It's a toss up between Denise Richards and Heather Locklear...BUT...

Katie Holmes and Angelina Jolie are great role models too!!!!!!!

I read a biography on Linda a few months ago...sm

Basically, she said she was sitting in a club one time and a man started talking to her and they introduced themselves.  He asked if she was from the Kodak Eastmans.  She said that's what the press said, but it wasn't true.  He told her he was glad to hear her say that because he WAS a Kodak Eastman and he had been hating her for years thinking she was going around telling everyone she was one of them.

It was an excellent book, BTW.

Good for you, Linda! SM First, editing's a desirable trend. Higher skill, easier SM
I feel it may be like a train about to rush around the bend at me.

For the discussion, editing is a higher skill and it's easier on the hands--absolutely no carpal tunnel problems since I started editing. And the WAGES ARE ABOUT THE SAME--you go through approximately twice as much dictation (some people more, some less depending on talent) in the same time it would take to transcribe it and get paid half as much for that amount of dictation, ending up without a drop in wages from editing. This is fair and market-driven.

Fewer editors would be needed, but some would be needed for the stinkers, even scary-good as VR gets with most dictators.

The big threat is from the electronic medical record, where physicians and their assistants check boxes on a handheld device they carry around with them and there is NO text report to come to us at all. England has had this for some years; go look and see how MTs are doing on the Emerald Isle.

No Chicken Little here, guys, AND not burying my head in the sand either. I don't have a view into the future, but the one thing that's clear is the future will require developing new skills, professional or trade level, of one kind or another. I just hope and pray it doesn't require going back to suits and office politics. School's okay, even at my age, but am guilty of putting it off to see if I'm going to be allowed to continue pretty much as is until I'm too old to work...huh--maybe there's some sand obscuring the picture after all. Best wishes.

MT class

I am wondering about how much transcribing is expected to be done a day.  Number of reports, lines or maybe pages.  I only have my students two times a week for one hour at a time.  I don't want to give them too much or too little.  Thank you.

What a class act
I think your line "Shove it where the sun don't shine" says it all.  Medquist must be so proud to have you as an employee.
class
If you are classified as a Statutory Employee you can use the deduction.  Be very careful.  Got to irs.gov pulldown menu self-employed......You don't have to guess.  You have to know the square footage of your dwelling, the square footage of the room you use as an office to get a % of what is used for work.  Add up all of the utilities, interest, mortage, and multiply the %.  That is your deduction.   Sch C is probably easier.  Home off deduction does you NO good if you have a NOL (net operating loss) from business earnings.
And then there is no class
NM
I also did this. One class from my BA.
I'm weighing my options and may go ahead towards a Master's degree but ultimately, I did so for the same reasons. In 5 years there are going to be so many MTs vying for fewer jobs that it will drive down wages and I'm not going there. So, I'll just learn to do something else.
You said it - in a word - class
The man just does his job (extremely well)and goes home to his family. No stupid hollywood publicity stunts, no games.
The class action against MQ by MTs should be about

forget about Ricca laws and tying it to hospitals and line counts.

They have lied and done smoke and mirrors to the point that there

probably could be a case made for that alone.

And why do we never hear anything more about the SEC case?

And the FBI case against MQ for sending military information over

unsecured lines?

What happened to all that?

We met in a Flirting class!

Class action...
I was involved in several of these suits - most of them with Medquist - and the biggest check I ever got was $3.61.
Once was middle class.

I was going to agree with you at first, but....  There is always food on the table, bills are paid.  Have pretty much what I need, but as I get older I care about having a lot less.  Certainly not rich, neither of us will be able to retire any time soon, although had we planned better, we might have been able to.  So I guess that put's us sort of in the middle, huh?

Hardly. We will always have and need a middle class.
The middle class is supporting everyone. This is a socialistic society.

I work and make money to pay for my stuff.

I work and make money to pay for YOUR stuff.

Believe me, there is a need for a middle class in a society like this one. They're just apprehensive to use the "S" word because it sounds too much like *gasp* Communism!
Yes, we will always NEED a middle class,
but don't think it will ALWAYS be there....just look around you.... Maybe when the rich have to take care of the "working poor" we will see a turn-around, but then again maybe they'll just "forget" them.  Don't have much faith in this economy.  The poor are being ripped of any programs that existed just a few years ago.  By the time the "middle class" hits bottom, there will be no help, no kind of any social programs in existance, just the rich and poor.  Which will you be?  Yeah, yeah, I'm pessimistic, but also realistic.
Sometimes - and taking a class
Maybe a computer class a little more advance than you are used to or a pick up one of the classes meant for LPNs or RNs (maybe just to sit in), a lecture from someone in the field, etc.
Class of 2006
Who said 0.00 because its just a high school graduation?  My middle son just graduated this year and we did give him a huge graduation party with a buffet, cake, ice cream, balloons, napkins imprinted with his name and "Class of 2006" on them, etc.  We did the party here in our home on a Sunday afternoon and invited family, close friends and a few teachers he had kept in touch with through the years.  Yes, it was his job to earn the diploma and such was expected of him; however, the party was our reward to him for a job well done.  He did receive lots of gifts -- some were money, some were things for college, etc.  The monetary gifts ranged from $5 to $200.  My son was just as grateful for the $5 gifts as he was for the $200 (grandparents).  He also received only cards from a few people who attended, and he was still grateful for their sharing his special day.  One of the gifts he was most excited about was a gift card to a bookstore.  He spent a couple of hours wandering around trying to decide what books he wanted to purchase.  Another gift he cherishes to this day is "A Book of Prayers for the Graduate."  Don't give more than you can afford.  If a card is the best one can do, then its enough because they're acknowledging an accomplishment and milestone in a young adult's life.
Me too and I have to take a math class, but I need to do something else, sm
cant outsource eating LOL
maybe not "back to school", but maybe a class or something sm
like a training/refresher course! Sheesh, I was just askin'!
It is not a class action suit as of yet
It is not certified class action because MQ filed for the proceedings to be held in NJ with all the other law suits. Therefore, this is stalling the certification of the suit to class action. They have received numerous calls over the checks.

Of course they cannot offer legal advise as they are not representing all MQ MTs as of yet, it is still the original 3 that filed, but I don't think it would be wise to cash it. That is just me. I know there are those that will disagree and call me names, but thats my two cents.
Does the class action include the DEP
platform? Somewhere, don't remember where now, I thought I read the class action was about the old platform MedRite and was for a certain range of years. Is there info out there that the class action pertains to DEP also?
Am I lost - is this English class
Excuse me, Miss Smarty Pants - but this is NOT English class - go teach English somewhere else if you such strong desire!
Good for you. You've got class.
That is a lesson you're passing on to your kids. I don't blame you for being upset, but you should be pround of yourself for not asking for a handout.
Well by the looks of the class of people who have entered this
I think the majority of them actually are of an unskilled factory worker caliber. You see people on here with no respect for education and who resent others who do have degrees, you see people on here who are often at the doors of destitution and can't think outside the box to improve their quality of life, you see people living with relatives because they can't even afford a home of their own be it rented or owned, you see people on here who are bragging about their husbands making 10 dollars an hour as if that's really good money. Scary what's happened to the MT world. This used to be a respectable job, but not any more. It started going downhill when we left the hospitals and started working at home, which was good for us from a convenience standpoint, but it made a lot of people let themselves go physically since they didn't have to leave the house, it started attracting the socially inept because they didn't want to leave the house either, and the solitude of it all just made a lot of people miserable and angry. No thanks.

Back to school for me!
