What other profession allows U to make money in ur bedroom?

a beautiful man! plain and simple.
and a great actor.
I don't return....plain and simple....and if someone ask about their
When you do not return...that's where it hurts the business. They NEED our business in order to stay afloat!!
Plain and simple answer: No.

That is ridiculously low pay. Even if you are the fastest Transcriptionist in the world and you work 16 hours a day, you still would barely be able to make ends meet. Do you really want to live like that?

If you can do this job part-time so that you will have the experience to put on your resume, go for it. But constantly be on the lookout for something that pays better and when you find it, grab it.

Plain and simple burnout.

I used to carry two pagers for two hospitals all by myself, 24/7.  They went off maybe a couple of times a month.  The chore of being on-call is now shared with a few other people but now the after-hour pages come in nonstop and I don't know why.  Me thinks some deal was made to keep an account or something but I really am just pulling that answer out of my tuckas.  It's gotta be costing the hospitals a mint to have us at their beck and call like that....either that or they got a really sweet deal.

The other issue is it used to be a much more laid back environment.  You logged on, did your work, and you were left alone.  You kept an eye out for stats yourself and took care of them, because you are there because you are responsible.

Now you log on, strike up this thing called Instant Messenger, and sit there at your desk working your alloted shift but can't get up because you must be present if you get an IM for a stat...even though you are already on it because it's your job to be.  Want to take a break?  Yeah, sure, once you finish up this stat.  Oh wait, I've got another one here that needs to be done super duper stat....you know what I'm talkin' about too, lurkers.

Ya know the movie, Office Space?  I'm always referring to it with this company.  You know the scene with the TPS reports, where the fella has 4 bosses telling him the same darned thing even though you already know your job?  That's what I'm dealing with and, yeah, I've been reduced to the mumbling dude who worries about his stapler.

I don't blame my bosses at all, but the micromanaging thing is out of control and I have no idea why it has come to be, because it wasn't like this before.  The days of a happier Hayseed with high line counts and company pride are long gone.  I don't know who works there anymore as the folks I knew have all left, and that's made an impact as well.  Ask for new scenery because of burnout, and all you get is a strokin', nothing more.

The plain and simple truth is
if we push, they will shove, and they will shove us right out of our jobs. Down the line sure it might help someone when they get tired of outsourcing, but we would all be out of jobs before then. I for one cannot afford that.

We can get mad, yell, scream, stomp our feet and demand better pay, then start looking for another job. We have no leverage and we are only one piece of the puzzle, not to mention the most dispensable piece.
That has SCAM written all over it. You'll end up paying lots of money to find out. nm

With that attitude, you'll never make money in
slack when his checks are small.  Sorry you can't seem to do it.  Maybe you should get one of those "every other jobs" where you start off making the equivalent of 15 to 18 cpl in MT.  Let me know when you find it.
Your MTs will find it hard to make any money with eScription.

I agree, I too doubt it was PayPal, someone hacked your account , plain and simple - sm
It can be done, especially if you ever responded to any spam emails. I had my debit card hacked at BJs, someone broke into the main frame and stole thousands of credit cards #, etc. They spent about $800 at Wal-Mart, PetsMart and for gas, bounced stuff in our checking account, etc. Since it was a VISA debit card, I had the money back in 24 hours after I filled out the fraud forms at the back. --but no one every physically stole my card or even had my PIN #. I am sure savvy computer hackers can do it , OR someone there at PayPal hacked and sold off a list---but I highly doubt they deliberately withdrew funds. I would have found out from the company that did the charge ***PAYPAL - THE XYX Co." where the mystery item shipped....doubt it was to your address.....That happened to me with a credit card, tons of stuff that I supposedly bought $800 of stuff from Victoria's Secret made its way to NY, not PA where I was living--interesting. Again was refunded promptly. PayPal may have been lax at how they handled it granted, but I am sure with a bit more persistance and going through the right channels you would have had it resolved a bit more promptly and to your satisfaction.
BS pure and simple. Nobody and I mean NOBODY is making $36/hour in this profession.

I have almost 20 years experience and the best I can do on a good day where I have few interruptions and have been chained to my PC for 8 straight hours I can make $20 per hour, MAYBE $25 but that is pushing it.  And I have my own accounts and have used my Expander to death.

Is this Sally Struthers?

You can make it as plain or fancy as you like

From "Mary Smith, Inc." to "Transcription International" or whatever....

Find a new profession!
You never told us you had another job as a fortune teller! PUHLEEZ - your crystal ball is nothing more than an average bowling ball!
Stop trying to stir up trouble!
I would find another profession

As an MT with 20+ years experience,I am finding another career...I can't imagine just starting out in this field, as those of us who have been here for a long time do not get treated fairly anymore...you can't make money, very few online companies appreciate anything that you do.  Like I tell my daughters who are all under 21 years of age, get a degree in something and then if they want to do this type of work, do it as a side job, but don't count on it to make a living...it just can't be done anymore.

Good Luck!

You need to find another profession
Why would you take something like transcribing a report personally? Do you watch news and hear about murders and take that personally also? Your job entails probably a lot that you personally would not like but to not transcribe a report because of belief system? Time for you to go to Wal-Mart.
Simple - Relocate where he will NOT find you!
Good luck!
I find a lot of UNPROFESSIONAL people in this profession..
This has happened to me several times.  Going so far as to send me programs and such and when contacting them  that I am ready to go, never hear from them again.
No. I'm making excellent money doing this (IC). I have no desire to leave this profession.

Make money? I'm not making any money because of my decision. You read my reasoning
You can agree with me or not, but don't make false assumptions please.
Keep it simple - make it fun
I wouldn't get too much into the nitty gritty, but just give them an idea of what it is about.  Most people don't know that transcription means listening to doctors and typing.  Something simple as that can go a long way.
You're working to make money, not to spend money.
These people should be ashamed of themselves taking advantage of people this way!
I also blew some money signing up with Quixtar... The only way to make any money is to bug everyone

you know into signing up.  I felt like a snake oil huckster.  I hated it.  I was flushing money down the toilet from the moment I handed over my money.

RUN, do not walk away!  I do an entirely different side business now that I really love (in addition to my MTing, which I also love!)  Find something you're good at and that you truly love doing.  Then make a business out of it.  That's the best way to have a side business.  Selling discount toilet paper through Amway/Quixtar?  Not so much.

Okay - to make it simple, what's your monthly takehome pay?
Mine is $1600/month. Assuming I worked 5 days a week (which I dont... I work 6 to 6-1/2), and 8 hours a day (I dont - I work 10-12), it would be $10 an hour. Where in this country is that a good wage? Working my average week, and my average hours per day, this further drops to about $6/hour. (Again, we're talking take-home, not gross.) I don't base anything on gross pay because I never see a large chunk of it. Part goes for Social Security which I'm sure I'll never receive. Part goes for healthcare, which is often denied and I end up paying out of pocket anyway. Part goes for state & federal taxes. My state is already issuing IOUs, not refunds, and last year they gypped me out of what should've been a $300 refund. The feds? Forget it. Let's not even go there.

So unless you live in some wonderful Utopian town where gas is 20 cents/gal., Cheerios are 85 cents/box, and rent is about $150/month, then spare me the lecture about how far a crappy 8 cpl will go, or even a crappy 9 or 10 cpl.

Oh, and by the way? I aint no 'newbie'. Try 34 years.
It'll happen. You'll find your fit.
You might have to kiss a few frogs first, though.
Make the sign very simple to read and put it in a very visible area
such as over the doorbell if you have to.

Some younger kids may not be able to read a lengthy sign.

Maybe "NO CANDY HERE" will work.

I know having the porch lights out does not work for my house either but whenever we came across a house with a sign I would have to tell the kids since some of them can't read yet to pass that house up.
lol cut myself off. Anyway, I'll make close to what I used to make with MQ,
ddd
I'll find it and let you know. I was beginning to think this was all about

.

you're right. She'll find her way over. NM
.
Yes, it's hard for me, too. It's such a struggle to find money
to buy gifts for people. I always try to give something I know they collect or a gift certificate to a restaurant or book store. In return, I've gotten Fingerhut freebies, an employee baseball cap, and clearance bath stuff in nasty fragrances like Freesia with the tag left on. I don't see the point in it. I wish our families would agree to stop giving gifts to adults. I seem to be the only one that feels this way. Then again, that's not fair because I've got the most kids.
I find that difficult to believe -- not the money but the hours.
That would leave only 6 hours a day to sleep, bathe, eat, do housework, errands, LIVE.

Naaaaa. That's a legend. LOL

Yes, but you'll probably need to find a smaller MTSO.
Put your resume in the MTstars resume database specifically stating what you're looking for. The smaller MTSOs usually don't put ads in because they don't want to be bombarded with hundreds of resumes. If you leave your info, they'll come to you. I had three independent contractor "p.r.n." or "very part-time positions" this past summer, so the positions are out there. Then I figured since I was already putting in 30 hours between the three, why not just work 20+ hours as an employee? So I am. Good luck with it!
I'll bet you can find one on Ebay cheap.
I've been buying up the antique kitchen gadgets because they work better and cost less than the newfangled junk.
You go, Tinks! You'll have to let us know so we can find it on the internet and see it.

I feel exactly the same as y'all.  I think we could start by sending letters not  e-mails to our respective state legislators.  And it would certainly not be a bad idea to send a letter to the presidential candidates.  I bet Hillary would do something about it.  Anyways I hope she would.  My SIL is Indian.  He was down here last weekend and told me he received an e-mail encouraging him to get into MT for only $450!  he's a bus driver.  Scam, scam, scam.  He also told me that Indians are all crooks, and those are his words.  he told me many stories of people stealing, bribes being expected, etc., even from the law and customs officials and the post office, on and on.  So there ya go.  Some may think our info is safe over there, I think not.

I have thought about contating our local TV/newspaper for the same reason -- to expose the dirty little secret at the big hospital here in town.

If you check the archives you'll find
this same question has been asked numerous times, but basically most have felt it a waste of time and wouldn't recommend them.
Who was it! I'll contact them and rip em a new A-hole! YOU need the money. How rude of that snot.

Hi, Lucinda. If you search on editing, you'll find SM
a lot of discussion since so many of us share your situation. Lots of people here have been editing for some time and should be able to offer answers to any questions you have afterward.
RadGuy, I gottah say this. You'll find someone on this board if you keep posting!! Even though mo
married (happily, others not), you just come off as interested in what we do as MTs (because you understand), you are funny, witty, and have a great personality....

I can just see it now....
You are personally invited to a virtual on-line wedding to celebrate.....

LOL!!

If you so a search on this board you'll find lots of info.

Basically, you've got it right. However, voice files can be large and email may reject large file attachments. Also, there's the security aspect that you didn't mention. Basically, the voice file and finished document need to be encrypted to be secure.

You said you don't have the time/didn't take the time to do the research. Lots of people have and have shared their findings time and again on this board. I, for one, am not willing to reinvent the wheel every time someone is looking for this information but doesn't want to take the time to do the legwork. No offense meant but please do take the time to educate yourself. If you really don't have the time or don't want to take that time, then be prepared to pay for that information in the form of a consultant.

Read these boards, & you'll find 'rude & inconsiderate'

i don't find mistakes if i spot check. so i don't relisten. costs money you know.
paid to type and listen once as i type.
How really do you make money?

I know I'm new but at least I have a job Right???

Anyway editing VR at 3 cents a line and not being quick is frustrating... I have been working for a week and I think I made maybe if I'm lucky 200.00, now I left a job making 500.00 a week after taxes... Boy I am stupid... So much for this great career working at home blah blah... I guess I'm totally frustrated considering no one will hire you new and when you get a job they say here is some chicken feed... I can't live off of this, does anyone have any suggestions... I will there is something to be said for getting paid by the hour

I don't make any money and I am

I am paid an hourly rate based on the number of lines I edit.  I'm trying to go back to being an MT.  I took a job for this company that pays $12/hr.  I am supposed to average 300 lines per hour.  I can only get a raise if my average is more than this for 6 months.

I don't know about anybody else, but I don't see that I will ever be able to edit more than 300 lines an hour because it takes time to provide feedback.

You cannot do it well and make money sm
by constantly stopping to work to attend to children, errands, family business.  If you want to make money, you have to treat it like what it is, a real job.
i make my money on them.
they are easy and i rarely have to look up words.
you won't make any money

if you cann't understand what they are saying.  You will sit twiddling your thumbs, going ARHGGH!  7 cpl is not good either, but at least you could be making something compared to nothing with ESL.  Making < $5 an hour typing ESL  versus maybe $10 an hour at 7 cpl... Hard choice..

When did you make the most money?

Was your line rate higher when you started, halfway through, or now?

One year and you make decent money? What is decent money to you?

They're supposed to be good luck. He'll find his way out when he's hungry. nm
