You mentioned Wal-Mart....
Unionize Wal-Mart and there goes your low prices. You can't have it both ways. Why do you think cars cost so much? You really think it costs that much to build them? The costs for those contracts is passed right on down to us, the consumers.
As to the teamsters union...can you say organized crime? Jimmy Hoffa sound familiar? The only rich people in unions are the people in the hierarchy of the union, and how many times have we heard about them stealing pension money?
And Barack Obama wants to do away with secret ballot voting in unions. You know why there is a secret ballot? So the union organizers won't be able to intimidate people. I worked at a hospital that a union was trying to organize. I have experienced first-hand how union organizers work, and it ain't pretty.
That being said, labor unions in their beginnings were needed and were a wonderful thing. But like many other good things, they have become about money and power and the rank and file are WAY down on the totem pole.
Problem is, all those good programs, pensions and health care are paid for by we the people. That is why plants close. That is why businesses go overseas, because there is only so much we the people are willing to pay. Wal-Mart knows that, that is why they don't want to unionize.
Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.
Personally--I hate the Wal-Mart grocery part.
Having never lived somewhere with a SuperCenter, I now live where it is the only grocery store. SUCKS. I would about put out someone's eye for a Safeway.
New movie...
out on Edward R. Murrow and his taking McCarthy on. I have seen a couple of clips where he says, journalists are supposed to maintain impartiality, but Senator McCarthy, enough is enough. The movie is unapologetically one-sided (ours) but even so, wouldn't it be wonderful to have some real journalists working for real editors whose companies are not owned by 1 conservative conglomerate and who have real freedom of speech.

It was a long time ago, I think I probably saw it after it came out on video. She was a huffer too, right? I just may have to get it again. I do remember it being rather funny and witty. I like her (Laura Dern), she chooses interesting roles doesn't she?

That is ONE movie
ONE, ONLY ONE... What happened to all the "oh so many movies" made about the killings of homosexuals. AND Matthew Shepherd was killed because he was trying to rob his killers. They were punished and well they should have been.
Consider that according to the latest FBI statistics, out of 1.4 million violent crimes in 2007; there were a mere 247 cases of aggravated assault (including five deaths) reportedly motivated by the victim's sexual orientation or gender identity. There is zero evidence to suggest that, where appropriate, perpetrators were not prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in every instance.
The movie No End In Sight...Thank you Kam!! s/m
Netflix has a two week completely free trial period, which I signed up for the other day. One of the movies I looked for was No End In Sight. It can be sent via mail or instant access on your PC which is also included in the free trial. I decided tonight to view it on my pc. All I can say about the film is that I was completely rivited by it from beginning to end. It is truly an exceptional film. I had seen Fahrenheit 911 a few years ago, and was not really that impressed with it. I cannot say that about this film. It was exceptional! Many thanks Kam for the recommendation about No End In Sight!!

Citizen Ruth (1996) Starring Laura Dern In this satirical look at the abortion issue, Ruth Stoops (Laura Dern), an unfit mother of four, discovers while in jail that she's pregnant again. The judge charges her with endangering the fetus, but tells her in confidence that he'll reduce the charges if she has an abortion. When word of this gets out, Ruth gets caught in the middle of a tug-of-war between Pro-Lifers and Pro-Choicers who want to use Ruth to get their messages across.
If you have a good sense of humor you will definitely enjoy this movie.!

it's called Hugo Chavez and Venezuela." PERFECT comeback. And I got blasted for suggesting there were liberals in Congress who wanted to nationalize oil. So I will say it again...far left liberals like Maxine Waters, Barack Obama, Ted Kennedy to name a few...ARE socialists, just more sneaky about it...until she just got ticked and blurted it out. We better ALL hope they don't go there. That is the danger of voting in socialists. Good-bye America, hello Venezuela.
horror movie
Just because Farrakhan calls Obama the 'messiah' does not mean that anyone who may consider voting for him calls him that as well. Actually I find the term blasphemous (no matter WHO it comes from), and I know that with the intelligent people who post their opinions here could not be that narrow minded. As far as a 'horror movie' - the last eight years of our lives has indeed been that; unfortunately it is all too real and many have suffered because of it. Greedy politicians and their ilk have been robbing us blind even before anyone knew who Obama was, and for Lord knows for how long we will CONTINUE to suffer because we have been so complacent and passive. Pitiful.

It's about a guy that looks like the President and when the real President has a heart attack while with his mistress, he gets hired to pretend to be the President. He then starts making all these changes - including a terrific budget-cutting scene you'll just love! Great, great movie.

Great movie! I saw it last year...
I highly recommend those who haven't seen it to do so. It is a real eye opener. For those that have always thought there was something fishy going on the in the car/fuel story it is great affirmation, and for those who never realized it, it will make a believer out of you!

If you only watch 1 movie this year...
it should be No End In Sight. I started a thread below about the movie, but that was before it had come out on DVD, and I had not seen it yet. I watched it tonight, and it was beyond informative. It features interviews with "high ranking officials such as former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, Ambassador Barbara Bodine (in charge of Baghdad during the Spring of 2003), Lawrence Wilkerson, former Chief of Staff to Colin Powell, and General Jay Garner (in charge of the occupation of Iraq through May 2003) as well as Iraqi civilians, American soldiers, and prominent analysts."
I learned so much that I have never seen featured on any news program, and the information is coming directly from the "horse's mouth." I don't believe that even the most die-hard Bush supporter will find much in the way of inaccurate facts, as much of the information is coming directly from people who were actually a part of the Bush Administration. This is what is funny about this?
They have made up their minds they have got this thing won just like they did in 2004. They don't even entertain the possibility that they will lose. They are so egotistical to think they might even throw the elections to make the Republicans look like fools. This is along the same thought process that they think they won by losing California primaries and losing on Prop. 50.
I think they know they're in trouble, but have chosen to lay their strategy out like they've got things under control. The Democrat blogs are all up in arms about what is happening with the party. Let's just say the extreme left is very unhappy with them right now, and they think the extreme left is their bread and butter. They thought that in 2004 and look where it got them.

How heated this debate has gotten. When I looked at that site I posted, where it compares the current legislation and the proposed legislation, it doesn't look all that different, just more funding so that more children qualify.

she should have slapped him silly right there in front of the cameras and everybody. But it IS rumor. It was told, supposedly, by 3 reporters from Arizona to this guy writing a book who has a bone to pick with McCain. As to not coming forward because of fear of retaliation...I don't buy them for a nanosecond. I am sure when this guy went looking for dirt some money crossed hands and a lot of embellishing went on...like any political smear book on any political candidate. When you can't deal with real issues that can be proven or disproven (Read "The Case Against Barack Obama" and you will know what I mean). There is none of the personal smear tactic where innuendo and "anonymous" quotes are used. Just plain simple historical fact that can be proven. THAT is the kind of information I pay attention to. Not the "anonymous" rumor stuff.
Obviously if it DID happen they wish it never happened. Obama wishes someone had not been taping when Wright went off on his rants. Obama wishes no one had checked on his fib about voting against saving babies who survive abortion. McCain wishes he hadn't done the things he did to cause his first marriage to fail. Everyone has regrets.
What about all the rumors and innuendo about Hillary Clinton bathmouthing the secret service people and calling them names every bit as hateful as what the rumor says JOhn McCain called his wife? I just chalked that up to rumor and innuendo because it could not be proven...just like I am doing about the McCain thing.
As to them denying it...why bring more attention to it...ever heard of "I think he doth protest too much?" I don't blame them. I would not dignify the accusation with a denial either.

I will throw softly here :-) I guess my point is, and again, I may be showing my ignorance on the subject. I am a Christian, coming from a very fundamental background, but have since strayed from so much of the legalism. I am beginning to see a lot of things from a different light, if you know what I mean. I was taught that same-sex relationships was a horrible, horrible sin. I no longer feel that way about the issue. I do have questions though. We as a human race are here because of heterosexual relationships are we not? Not from same-sex relationships. Would we be extinct if that was all there was, and if it were the norm? I have worked with gays and lesbians, I have been neighbors of gays and lesbians, as I mentioned two of my best friends are gays and lesbians. I do not have an issue --- REALLY! It is just some back of the mind questions that I have. I guess we all have questions and may never know the answers. I am not voting against gay marriages. Yes, your same-sex relationship is your business as my heterosexual relationship is mine - - but it seems as if no one is questioning mine - - Is this because it is right, and the norm??? What exactly are the issues here??.
