Wrong on both accounts.
Perhaps you weren't paying attention.

McCain did stay and shake hands with the audience members. He even introduced his wife around and posed for pictures, just like Obama did. So get over it.

As for, "began his answer with, 'I bet you never heard of Fannie Mac or Freddie Mac before...'" Well, you're just flat out wrong.

You could have checked your facts, but if you're an Obama support I'm sure you're not used to doing that, so let me enlighten you.

Here was McCain's response to the question: (quoted from the official transcript)

Well, thank you, Oliver. And that's an excellent question because, as you just described it, "bailout" when I believe that it's "rescue." Because -- because of the greed and excess in Washington and Wall Street, Main Street was paying a very heavy price, and we know that. I left my campaign and suspended it to go back to Washington to make sure that there were additional protections for the taxpayer in the form of good oversight and the form of taxpayers being the first to be paid back when our economy recovers, and it will recover, and a number of other measures.

But you know, one of the real catalysts, really the match that lit this fire was Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I'll bet you, you may never even have heard of them before this crisis. But you know, they're the ones that with the encouragement of Senator Obama and his cronies and his friends, in Washington, that went out and made all these risky loans, gave them to people that could never afford to pay back. And you know, there were some of us that stood up two years ago and said, we've got to enact legislation to fix this. We've got to stop this greed and excess. Meanwhile the Democrats in the Senate and some and some members of Congress defended what, what Fannie and Freddie were doing. They, they resisted any change. Meanwhile they were getting all kinds of money in campaign contributions. Senator Obama was the second highest recipient of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac money in history, in history. So this rescue package means that we will stabilize markets. We will buy -- we will shore up these institutions, but it's not enough. That's why we're going to have to go out into the housing market. And we're going to have to buy up these bad loans. And we're going to have to stabilize house, home values.

And that way Americans can -- like Allen -- can realize the American dream and stay in their home. But Fannie and Freddie were the catalysts, the match that started this forest fire. There were some of us -- there were some of us that stood up against us; there was others who took a hike.

And our bank accounts are

in such wonderful shape today, right?

We now live in a fascist society where the Bush government is buying the banks.

Socialism would be a giant step forward.

Yup, they sure are! And right on target!

Right on target!

Made sure my daughter knew what to avoid and she in turn taught my granddaughter. Good thing, my granddaughter was not afraid to tell her mother when an older boy asked her to put his...........in her mouth. My daughter called CPS.

like I said, the cpl pay is low comparatively, but I do alright. By the way, I certainly didn't mean to offend you!
Seems pretty on target to me :o)

Tongue in cheek..but I gotta tell ya, some of this is true, from my experience living in NY, CA and VA.

Subject: Dear Friends, (Retirees and Those Planning to Retire. Here are some very helpful tips that are just too true to ignore:

As  we all know, when we hit retirement age we come face to face with the fact  that it may be time to relocate. The big question is: where to? Here are some tips.

You can live in Phoenix, Arizona where.....You are willing to park 3 blocks away because you found shade. :-)You can open and drive your car without touching the car door or the steering wheel. You've experienced condensation on your butt from the hot water in the toilet bowl. You would give anything to be able to splash cold water on your face. You can attend any function wearing shorts and a tank top. Dress Code is meaningless at high schools and universities. Picture lingerie ads. You can drive for 4 hours in one direction and never leave town. You have over 100 recipes for Mexican food. The 4 seasons are: tolerable, hot, really hot, and ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!  You know that dry heat is comparable to what hits you in the face when you open your oven door.

You can Live in California where...You make over $250,000 and you still can't afford to buy a house.  The high school quarterback calls a time-out to answer his cell phone.  The fastest part of your commute is going down your driveway.  You know how to eat an artichoke.  You drive your rented Mercedes to your neighborhood block party. Then someone asks you how far something is, you tell them how long it will take to get there rather than how many miles away it is.

You can Live in New York City where..You say the city and expect everyone to know you mean Manhattan. You have never been to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. You can get into a four-hour argument about how to get from Columbus Circle to Battery Park, but can't find Wisconsin on a map. You think Central Park is nature, You believe that being able to swear at people in their own language makes you multi-lingual. You've worn out a car horn. You think eye contact is an act of aggression.

You can Live in Maine where... You only have four spices: salt, pepper, ketchup, and Tabasco. Halloween costumes fit over parkas. You have more than one recipe for moose. Sexy lingerie is anything flannel with less than eight buttons. The four seasons are: winter, still winter, almost winter, and construction.

You can Live in the Deep South where...You can rent a movie and buy bait in the same store. Y'all is singular and all y'all is plural. After five years you still hear, You ain't from ' round here, are Ya? He needed killin' is a valid defense. Everyone has 2 first names:  Billy Bob, Jimmy Bob, Mary Sue, Betty Jean, MARY BETH,  etc.

You can live in Colorado where...You carry your $3,000 mountain bike atop your $500 car. You tell your husband to pick up Granola on his way home and he stops at the day care center. A pass does not involve a football or dating. The top of your head is bald, but you still have a pony tail.

You can live in the Midwest where...You've never met any celebrities, but the mayor knows your name. Your idea of a traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a tractor. You have had to switch from heat to A/C on the same day. You end sentences with a preposition: Where's my coat at? When asked how your trip was to any exotic place, you say, It was different!

AND You can live in Florida where...You eat dinner at 3:15 in the afternoon. All purchases include a coupon of some kind -- even houses and cars. Everyone can recommend an excellent dermatologist. Road construction never ends anywhere in the state. Cars in front of you are often driven by headless people.

The surplus also followed him out eh? We know because it's now in the bank accounts of the rich.
A lot of people made a lot of money during the Clinton years - that's real money, honey, and they're still rich, accounting for our current revenues. Without the Clinton boom years your president's buds (and your president himself, let us remind you) wouldn't have gotten their 100,000 tax break checks. Sure, the boom couldn't hold, but the point is that the favorable conditions created by a sounder Democratic fiscal policy allowed that boom to come about.

Now all we have is empty coffers, slashed public spending, and China owns us. Big improvement huh? Oops, but people like Frist are still getting over big time on their big time stock trades - all's clear in the upper 1% But since you likely aren't in it, it's hard to see what you find so appealing about being a credit slave one paycheck away from poverty. Is that working out good for you?
Any word about money market accounts?

Retirement Age
Am I missing some bigger picture? I'm serious with that question.

Last night Barrack mentioned how he's against the raising of the retirement age. Hillary didn't really speak to it, but I got the impression that she also doesn't want to see that happen. Is there some reason other than AARPs very powerful lobby? I mean, in the 60's, the average life expectancy was about 70 years, now it's close to 78. Why shouldn't retirement age be raised? We are not only living longer, but we're living healthy longer. I do realize that not all will remain healthy, but for those there is disability also.

SS is in so much trouble, it just seems to me to be a no brainer that by raising the retirement age, even by just a couple of years, some of those problems can be lessened.

Government prying into people's bank accounts nothing new.

And they're not just snooping on terrorists, as they claim.

Pay too much and you could raise the alarm

By BOB KERR
The Providence Journal
28-FEB-06

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Walter Soehnge is a retired Texas schoolteacher who traveled north with his wife, Deana, saw summer change to fall in Rhode Island and decided this was a place to stay for a while.

So the Soehnges live in Scituate now and Walter sometimes has breakfast at the Gentleman Farmer in Scituate Village, where he has passed the test and become a regular despite an accent that is definitely not local.

And it was there, at his usual table last week, that he told me that he was madder than a panther with kerosene on his tail.

He says things like that. Texas does leave its mark on a man.

What got him so upset might seem trivial to some people who have learned to accept small infringements on their freedom as just part of the way things are in this age of terror-fed paranoia. It's that everything changed after 9/11 thing.

But not Walter.

We're a product of the '60s, he said. We believe government should be way away from us in that regard.

He was referring to the recent decision by him and his wife to be responsible, to do the kind of thing that just about anyone would say makes good, solid financial sense.

They paid down some debt. The balance on their JCPenney Platinum MasterCard had gotten to an unhealthy level. So they sent in a large payment, a check for $6,522.

And an alarm went off. A red flag went up. The Soehnges' behavior was found questionable.

And all they did was pay down their debt. They didn't call a suspected terrorist on their cell phone. They didn't try to sneak a machine gun through customs.

They just paid a hefty chunk of their credit card balance. And they learned how frighteningly wide the net of suspicion has been cast.

After sending in the check, they checked online to see if their account had been duly credited. They learned that the check had arrived, but the amount available for credit on their account hadn't changed.

So Deana Soehnge called the credit-card company. Then Walter called.

When you mess with my money, I want to know why, he said.

They both learned the same astounding piece of information about the little things that can set the threat sensors to beeping and blinking.

They were told, as they moved up the managerial ladder at the call center, that the amount they had sent in was much larger than their normal monthly payment. And if the increase hits a certain percentage higher than that normal payment, Homeland Security has to be notified. And the money doesn't move until the threat alert is lifted.

Walter called television stations, the American Civil Liberties Union and me. And he went on the Internet to see what he could learn. He learned about changes in something called the Bank Privacy Act.

The more I'm on, the scarier it gets, he said. It's scary how easily someone in Homeland Security can get permission to spy.

Eventually, his and his wife's money was freed up. The Soehnges were apparently found not to be promoting global terrorism under the guise of paying a credit-card bill. They never did learn how a large credit card payment can pose a security threat.

But the experience has been a reminder that a small piece of privacy has been surrendered. Walter Soehnge, who says he holds solid, middle-of-the-road American beliefs, worries about rights being lost.

If it can happen to me, it can happen to others, he said.

gee, and it was okay for Bush to be the elusive target for the last 8 years??....s/m
...and probably beyond.....that wasn't unhealthy????? from the DNC, liberal democrats, and the liberal media???

Give me a break. There was nothing elusive about W the target.
He constantly made himself an easy mark, time after time after time and, to be sure, it was VERY unhealthy for the nation. You don't have to look far for the evidence...an economy teetering on the brink of depression, universally abysmal approval ratings across party lines, a resounding GOP defeat in November, an 11th hour desperate attempt to rewrite history, a VP coming out of hiding from his undisclosed location to arrogantly pronounce that war crimes committed by the POTUS and VPOTUS lay beyond legal recourse, etc.

Did you bother to read the article? This is coming out of the mouths of Newt Gingrich, Saul Anuzis, republican party chairman in Michigan and possible new RNC chair, republican leaders in Congress, and John McCain, himself, the GOP's fearless leader just a little over a month ago.

Try reading the article before getting all indignant, and pay special attention to the part about the only really EFFECTIVE criticism of Obama being that which has come out of the left-sided, progressive wings of the DNC...not a hypocrite in sight. Sooner or later, for their own good, the GOP is going to have to come to terms with what ails them and how they screwed up in this last election cycle. If they don't, history is bound to repeat itself.

Incorrect. We're the target of terrorists
because we are a capitalist society. A society that allows for personal freedoms. A country that embraces all races and religious and creeds. A country that does not dictate how its citizens must act, and think, and worship. And that is unsufferable to Muslim extremits.

Do you know anything about Jihad?
Thank goodness my DH and I took all of our retirement
and investments out of the market about 6 weeks ago, had a feeling something was coming.
People near retirement age will be put out on the
ice floe to die.  But since out country is a little short of ice floes, those who have reached the end of their 'productive lives' will be denied medical care and allowed to seek whatever undignified death seems appropriate to them.  Adapt or die.  Next question?
I am a PT MT receiving my retirement
social security benefits. Here is what the letter I received from the SSA stated:

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Among its provisions are one-time payments to Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries, as well as funding to help the agency address critical needs.

One-Time Payments of $250 For Social Security and SSI Beneficiaries

Nearly 55 million people who receive Social Security and SSI benefits will get a special one-time payment of $250. They should receive the one-time payment by late May 2009.

I think it a good thing to stay away and not give them a target. sm
It is so obvious they are brainwashed and cannot respond to logic in a sensible fashion, so it is no use discussing or arguing with them. You cannot argue logically with someone who has no logic.
For crying out loud. His target group IS workers
are so low that they come up not owing tax at the end of the year, then it would not be possible to give them a tax cut or a tax credit, unless it is a refundable tax credit. So far, you have not provided any evidence that Obama is proposing a REFUNDABLE tax credit. As a matter of fact, why do you supposed he call this tax credit "Making WORK pay." The credit will zero out at zero tax liability unless it is a refundable tax credit. Again, it seems like you cannot produce any evidence that this is the case. Or can you? What about the socialist question with regard to progressive tax reform proposals only being socialist at Obama's hands, an no other president in history since 1913, including the 7 republicans who raise the top income bracket rates to as high as 63% to 94%, as opposed to Obama, whose intent is to restore that rate back to 39.6% as it was in 2000 when Bush took office?
401K/retirement fund

You can't "take" your pension and 401K out of the stock market if you are not retirement age.  We are stuck with whatever the companies we work for invest in. my husband and I have some choices about where we invest our 401K but they all involve mutual funds, stocks, bonds, etc.

OMG, unbelievable. People near retirement age..sm
expected to get a higher education to keep a job. No way. How could a person even afford it, and once you graduated, you'd be too old and couldn't find a job. He addressed this in an awful way IMHO.
The paragraph about early retirement

That's where DH is. Forced to retire because of no work (road construction). The stimulus money went to 2 cities in my state. The rest of the state got nothing towards road construction or very little.

We didn't get last year's stimulus check because we owed taxes and they put the money towards that. Now he's getting screwed out of the $250 because he wasn't retired when this happened. Never fails.

Remember that cartoon of the guy always under the grey cloud? That's us.

The "Smith-&-Wesson Retirement Plan". - sm

Aaaagggggg!!!!  I know, I shouldn't of done it.  But I just HAD to take a peek.  And what I saw was almost too depressing for mere words to describe.

So, this afternoon I logged on to my 401K, just to see how the poor thing has been faring these past coupla weeks.  It started hemorrhaging pretty badly a couple of months back, lost first 1/4, and then about 1/3 of its value.   But oh, my GOD..... today it's down just a few dollars shy of being only HALF it's former value.  A mere shadow of its former self.  Now there's not even enough money left in it to buy a decent used car.

I guess now there's only one thing left to do when we reach a point in our lives when we can no longer work, and need to retire.  That would involve a gun and a single bullet. Well, mabe 2 bullets.  (My aim is pretty bad.....)

Social Security is a retirement "insurance" sm
as with any insurance you usally do draw more than you pay in! If you have a (for example) $250,000 life insurance policy, do you think you are going to pay in $250,000 for it?

All this complaining about people drawing SS but I tell you if you are paying in and happen to have a catastrophic illness and have to draw disability benefits, you will be glad you paid in.

Senator rips ex Exxon CEO's retirement package

By Tom Doggett Tue Apr 18, 4:53 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Amid record oil prices and soaring gasoline costs, Exxon Mobil's $400 million retirement package to its former CEO is a shameful display of greed that should be reviewed by Congress and investigated by federal regulators, Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan (news, bio, voting record) said on Tuesday.

Dorgan said he wants Exxon Mobil officials to appear at a Senate Commerce Committee hearing to explain how the corporation justifies giving its former boss, Lee Raymond, such a huge retirement package.

He also said the

Securities and Exchange Commission should investigate the deal that appears to shortchange shareholders.

There can be no more compelling evidence that the price gouging and market manipulation which has produced record oil prices is out of control, and is working to serve the forces of individual greed and corporate gluttony at the painful expense of millions of American consumers, Dorgan said.

Dorgan's criticism of Raymond's financial package came on the same day that U.S. crude oil prices hit a record high of more than $71 a barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Higher crude oil prices are helping to push of up gasoline costs. The Energy Department reported prices jumped 10 cents over the last week to a national average of $2.78 a gallon, up 55 cents from a year ago.

President George W. Bush said on Tuesday he was concerned about the impact high gasoline prices were having on families and businesses.

Exxon earned the wrath of many lawmakers when it reported more than $36 billion in profits last year as energy prices paid by consumers soared.

Dorgan said he will push to win passage of his legislation that would impose a windfall profits tax on big oil companies and rebate that money to consumers, unless the companies used their earnings to explore for and produce more energy.

I think a sensible public policy would insist that the big oil companies either invest those windfall profits in things that will increase our own domestic energy supplies, or we should return some of that money to consumers, Dorgan said.

Using them to drop $400 million dollars in the pocket of a big oil executive is simply unacceptable, he added.

Exxon Mobil has defended Raymond's retirement package, saying it was pegged to the rise in the company's profit and market capitalization that occurred during his tenure.

But what is this PRIVATE

forum doing on an MT site?? Anyway, I have researched and contacted someone at ForuMatrix. I just want to know why a privately owned conservative board is on an open MT board masquerading as a **politics** board, all inclusive. I have never paid much attention to how these things were run but if the politics board is really the conservative board, then it needs to go somewhere else or there should be another board for the rest of us, moderated and administrated by a liberal, a green, an independent. Not many people of any stripe come here anymore and that is because the board has gotten so heavy handed conservatively. It does not matter what we say, we get the same rhetoric back from you. We're idiots, we ooze hate and loathing, we hate democracy, we love the terrorists, we are socialists (at least I get that a lot), we hate capitalism...The board has gone downhill progressively since 2004. The only opinions that matter are yours and Brunson/Nan's.

P.S. Why makes you think I am crying. I am inquiring and I intend to find out what I want to know.

Sandra Day O'Connor announced her retirement today. How ironic.

On a weekend when we are all preparing to celebrate our independence, some of us can get ready to kiss that very same independence goodbye.

If Bush stays true to his "base" and the Democrats are unsuccessful in what I hope will be a very aggressive filibuster (if the candidate does turn out to be someone who is unwilling to substitute the Constitution for the Bible), we will have conservatives chipping away at our independence: controlling our lives, our deaths, defining which God is "politically correct," who people with the "wrong" orientation are "allowed" to love, etc., etc., etc.

I wonder how much "independence" we will have left to celebrate on July 4, 2006.

So is MTStars a PUBLIC board or a PRIVATE board? Choose one -- Can't be both at the same time.
PP comes out of our taxes. NOT a private org.
Why do you think so many taxpayers are sick of it?  When does the "tax us til it bleeds stop?"
Okay, I get it. You are for a private citizen....
being subjected to a background check for asking a question. That says more about you than what you say about Joe.

The difference between you and me is...I would be as outraged by this if had been done to someone who asked Obama and a question and was subjected to this. But of course, we know that isn't going to happen, now don't we?

So much for liberals championing civil rights. What a joke that has become!!
It shouldn't be. It's a private decision, not one to
.
Private insurance and SCHIPS not the same.
SCHIPS is for CHILDREN, not parents. Federal mandates that seek to raise the age of allowable coverage for natural children of parents with PRIVATE insurance makes perfect sense. Parents (not the govt) pay premium on young adults who would otherwise not be able to afford insurance. What's the problem here?
Hello. They are referring to PRIVATE insurance.
Do you have kids? Would you like to see them go to college? Graduate school? Law school? Medical school? Would you or would you not like to have the option to carry YOUR OWN CHILDREN on your insurance beyond age 17? I think that parents who want to cover their kids (and other members of their family, for that matter, like parents, in-laws, sisters, brothers, etc) should have that choice under a group rate that would be cheaper than individual policies that some of them otherwise would not be able to afford. It's called medical care reform and the aim is to INSURE people, not exclude them. got it?
I actually went to a private CHRISTIAN school.....

Throughout high school.  I'm not saying I would never put my children there, but at this point they have a good school and I am happy with it.  BTW, at their school they actually pray still, say the blessing, pledge the flag, etc.  Not sure how they get away with it, but yea they do it.

Taxpayers will pay for Gonzales' private attorney
This is incredible.

Lawyers from the Justice Department's civil division often represent department employees who're sued in connection with their official actions. However, Gonzales' attorney recently revealed in court papers that the Justice Department had approved his request to pay private attorney's fees arising from the federal lawsuit.

Dan Metcalfe, a former high-ranking veteran Justice Department official who filed the suit on behalf of eight law students, called the department's decision to pay for a private attorney rather than rely on its civil division "exceptional."

"It undoubtedly will cost the taxpayers far more," he said.

According to a person with knowledge of the case, the Justice Department has imposed a limit of $200 an hour or $24,000 a month on attorneys' fees. Top Justice Department attorneys generally earn no more than $100 per hour. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.

Asked why Gonzales made the request, Gonzales spokesman Robert Bork Jr. said that his client "values the work that the department's civil attorneys do in all cases" but thinks that "private counsel can often be useful where (department) officials are sued in an individual capacity, even where the suit has no substantive merit."

Charles Miller, a Justice Department spokesman, said the department wouldn't have any comment on the reasons for the approval and wouldn't answer questions about the cost to taxpayers.

If those were my children, I would send them to private school too -
Can you imagine the nightmare of keeping those children safe now in a public school? The interruptions to scheduling and life the other children would have to go through every day to be able to go to school with the president's children?

I don't blame him one bit for putting his children in a private school! And yes, I know they were in private school before too and if he can afford it himself, then that is okay too. Don't subsidize private school for people with my money though...
If your in public office, you have no private life (mn)

If you want to have a private conversation with JTBB, take it off-line.
If you post to the forum, it's fair game for anyone.

Oh, and incidentally, if I felt comfortable posting my CV on a public forum, you'd be very embarassed by the "clueless" characterization.

Homeland Security opening private mail
Retired professor confused, angered when letter from abroad is opened

By Brock N. Meeks

Chief Washington correspondent

MSNBC

Updated: 5:55 p.m. ET Jan. 6, 2006

WASHINGTON - In the 50 years that Grant Goodman has known and corresponded with a colleague in the Philippines he never had any reason to suspect that their friendship was anything but spectacularly ordinary.

But now he believes that the relationship has somehow sparked the interest of the Department of Homeland Security and led the agency to place him under surveillance.

Last month Goodman, an 81-year-old retired University of Kansas history professor, received a letter from his friend in the Philippines that had been opened and resealed with a strip of dark green tape bearing the words “by Border Protection” and carrying the official Homeland Security seal.

“I had no idea (Homeland Security) would open personal letters,” Goodman told MSNBC.com in a phone interview. “That’s why I alerted the media. I thought it should be known publicly that this is going on,” he said.  Goodman originally showed the letter to his own local newspaper, the Kansas-based Lawrence Journal-World.

“I was shocked and there was a certain degree of disbelief in the beginning,” Goodman said when he noticed the letter had been tampered with, adding that he felt his privacy had been invaded. “I think I must be under some kind of surveillance.”

Goodman is no stranger to mail snooping; as an officer during World War II he was responsible for reading all outgoing mail of the men in his command and censoring any passages that might provide clues as to his unit’s position.  “But we didn’t do it as clumsily as they’ve done it, I can tell you that,” Goodman noted, with no small amount of irony in his voice. “Isn’t it funny that this doesn’t appear to be any kind of surreptitious effort here,” he said.

The letter comes from a retired Filipino history professor; Goodman declined to identify her.  And although the Philippines is on the U.S. government’s radar screen as a potential spawning ground for Muslim-related terrorism, Goodman said his friend is a devout Catholic and not given to supporting such causes.

A spokesman for the Customs and Border Protection division said he couldn’t speak directly to Goodman’s case but acknowledged that the agency can, will and does open mail coming to U.S. citizens that originates from a foreign country whenever it’s deemed necessary.

“All mail originating outside the United States Customs territory that is to be delivered inside the U.S. Customs territory is subject to Customs examination,” says the CBP Web site.  That includes personal correspondence.  “All mail means ‘all mail,’” said John Mohan, a CBP spokesman, emphasizing the point.

“This process isn’t something we’re trying to hide,” Mohan said, noting the wording on the agency’s Web site.  “We’ve had this authority since before the Department of Homeland Security was created,” Mohan said.

However, Mohan declined to outline what criteria are used to determine when a piece of personal correspondence should be opened, but said, “obviously it’s a security-related criteria.”

Mohan also declined to say how often or in what volume CBP might be opening mail.  “All I can really say is that Customs and Border Protection does undertake [opening mail] when it is determined to be necessary,” he said.

Remember when they declared family private and off limits
It's a can of worms I don't think they really want to open. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of light Aunti Zeituni can shed on the REST OF THE STORY (that is if she ever gets the chance) after the election. seh obviously holds nothing but the highest regard for her nephew and sounds like a really interesting person.

What is amazing about the fallout is that no one seems to be questioning that "highly unusual" shrub directive to ICE to issue as many deportation orders as possible before Tuesday. To me it's sort of like calling for mass executions in the Texas gas chambers (hurry up, hurry up) before anybody finds out that a couple of the death row inmates are innocent. One has to wonder what he meant by "politically sensitive" deportation cases.

Hopefully, it is a moot point. An executive order from a lame duck president with approval ratings in the low 20s is likely to be ignored by the ICE anyway.
Ummm. Hello. Anybody home? SCHIPS is not private insurance.
since the bill has not gone through the Senate or signed into law, state guidelines have not changed either.
Republicans favor giving poor families subsidies to afford private schools. Obama opposed.
Yet Obama sends his daughters to a private school, 29,000 for EACH KID. Hypocrisy, here we come. Geesh, not even in office yet.
Dems took over?

This really confuses me.  It's my understanding that the Dems STILL haven't taken over.  They need 60 in the Senate in order to prevent a fillibuster, and as I write this, the Republicans (still in control) are threatening to fillibuster the proposed auto maker bailout/loan legislation.  Since the Democrats DO NOT have the majority they need, the Republicans may very well do that.

So please explain to me how the Democrats are in control because I keep seeing this and truly don't understand how that is.

Not trying to start an argument or stir anything up.  I truly don't "get it."

I'm not sure that the dems really

like Bill being interviewed a lot.  LOL!  He is rather obvious that he is only saying Obama because he is following his political party and that he truly doesn't want Obama as president.

Oh well....for whatever reason Bill said what he did.....it is still nice to hear someone admiring both candidates, saying they are both ready to be president, and not cutting down one party or the other. It was a nice change for once.

I have never seen anything like this. Dems really are
nm
It's been the Dems all along...
Congress is DEMOCRATS you know.  The president...Bush now...and O in the future...does not have absolute power! Gah, how hard is that to understand???  But now with a Dem pres and a Dem government...we are all screwed!
