Your post sounds like you were reading my mind and posting it here! I am clueless now. My husband's not even voting. This back and forth is driving me nuts. I really don't know who to believe.

find them described in detail in the Blueprint for Change. Don't you find all that pessimism and fright exhausting? Give yourself a break and try to simply beleive that things can and will get better. Just how secure do you feel right at this moment in terms of the economy after 8 long years of clueless leadership?

His campaign has released several statements
stating that she was vetted. Just go to cnn.com and you can read them all there.

Here is a partial article (also explains that this was a rumor...that she had not been vetted:

Nicolle Wallace, a senior McCain adviser, told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Tuesday that Palin disclosed her daughter's pregnancy during the vetting process, and that the McCain campaign had been forced to reveal the pregnancy publicly Monday because of "lewd and outrageously false rumors" spread by "Democratic-leaning blogs and a few in the mainstream" media. She did not identify them.

Since McCain publicly disclosed his running mate on Friday, the notion of a shoddy, rushed review has been stoked repeatedly.

First, a campaign-issued timeline said McCain initially met Palin in February, then held one phone conversation with her last week before inviting her to Arizona, where he met with her a second time and offered her the job Thursday.

Then came the campaign's disclosure that Palin's unmarried 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, was pregnant. The father is Levi Johnston, who has been a hockey player at Bristol's high school, The New York Post and The New York Daily News reported in their Tuesday editions.

In addition, the campaign also disclosed that Palin's husband, Todd, then age 22, was arrested in 1986 in Alaska for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Shortly after Palin was named to the ticket, McCain's campaign dispatched a team of a dozen communications operatives and lawyers to Alaska. That fueled speculation that a comprehensive examination of Palin's record and past was incomplete and being done only after she was placed on the ticket.

Steve Schmidt, a senior adviser, said no matter who the nominee was, the campaign was ready to send a "jump team" to the No. 2's home state to work with the nominee's staff, work with the local media and help handle requests from the national media for information, and answer questions about documents that were part of the review.

At several points throughout the process, McCain's team warned Palin that the scrutiny into her private life would be intense and that there was nothing she could do to prepare for it.

Culvahouse disclosed details of his examination in a half-hour interview with the AP.

First, a team of some 25 people working under Culvahouse culled information from public sources for Palin and other prospective candidates without their knowledge. For all, news reports, speeches, financial and tax return disclosures, litigation, investigations, ethical charges, marriages and divorces were reviewed.

For Palin specifically, the team studied online archives of the state's largest newspapers, including the Anchorage Daily News, but didn't request paper archives for Palin's hometown newspaper. "I made the decision that we could not get it done and maintain secrecy," Culvahouse said.

Reports, 40-some pages and single-spaced, on each candidate then were reviewed by McCain, Schmidt, campaign manager Rick Davis and top advisers Mark Salter and Charlie Black.

Among the details McCain's campaign found: Palin had once received a citation for fishing without a license.

Palin, like others on the short list, then was sent a personal data questionnaire with 70 "very intrusive" questions, Culvahouse said. She also was asked to submit a number of years of federal and state tax returns, as well as any controversial articles she had written or interviews she had done. The campaign also checked her credit.

Then, Culvahouse conducted a nearly three-hour-long interview.

He said the first thing she volunteered was that her daughter was pregnant, and she also quickly disclosed her husband's DUI arrest.

Early on, the public search unearthed details of the investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that Palin ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.

Culvahouse said that he asked follow-up questions during the interview, and "spent a lot of time with her lawyer" on the matter.

"We came out of it knowing all that we could know at the time," he said.

As for the financial records review, Culvahouse said: "It was very clean. We had no issues there."

Throughout the process, the campaign said, Davis had multiple conversations with Palin.

He refused to be released from prison...
because there were men who had been there longer than he had and he felt using his dad's clout to get him out was wrong for those men, and it was, and that takes the kind of courage and integrity Barack Obama can only dream about.

How can you say he never regretted it? Does Obama regret throwing a friend and mentor, the man who baptized his children, under the bus for his political career? This is a man you should trust? Hello??

Well, none other than *Scooter* Libby, CHENEY'S CHIEF OF STAFF.

New 'Bin Laden message' released...sm
I guess he's still alive and sending videos.
-------------

From BBC: New 'Bin Laden message' released
Osama Bin Laden

This would be Bin Laden's fourth message this year
A new recording purportedly from al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden has been posted on an Islamic website.

He praised Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the al-Qaeda leader killed in Iraq three weeks ago, as the lion of holy war.

The video, lasting 19 minutes, shows a still picture of Bin Laden, and moving pictures of al-Zarqawi.

The recording's authenticity has not been verified, but if it is confirmed, it would be the fourth audio message Bin Laden has released this year.

However, no new video images of the al-Qaeda leader have appeared since October 2004.

Last week a video was broadcast purportedly showing the deputy leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahri in which he paid tribute to Zarqawi and said his death would be avenged.

Universal fight

In the latest recording, Bin Laden addresses US President George W Bush, warning him not to be too happy about Zarqawi's death, for the banner [of al-Qaeda in Iraq] hasn't dropped but has passed from one lion of Islam to another lion.

Bin Laden says al-Qaeda will go on with operations against the US and its allies.

We will continue, God willing, to fight you and your allies everywhere, he said, in Iraq and Afghanistan and in Somalia and Sudan until we waste all your money and kill your men.

In an apparent reference to a campaign against Iraq's Shias by Zarqawi, Bin Laden addressed those who accuse Abu Musab of killing certain sectors of the Iraqi people.

Abu Musab had clear instructions to focus his fight on the occupiers, he went on, particularly the Americans and to leave aside anyone who remains neutral.

He called on President Bush to return Zarqawi's body to his family, and used rhyming couplets to eulogise the dead al-Qaeda leader.
That's when the letter was dated. It could have been written the day he released it.
Why would he quit the day after his dad accepted the nomination and not release the letter then?
UCLA released a study recently that said...
that the New Deal probably prolonged the depression by at least 7 years. Are you sure that socialism is what the market needs--it is my thought that this problem was well on its way before Bush came into office--caused by the interference in the market that was already in place.
Meixco has released a travel alert.
College campuses here are posting warnings on their websites, warning students that the violence has gotten very bad and they may be targeted or even killed.  From a friend who works down there regularly, it is that bad and he says it is only a matter of time before something extremely violent happens to tourists.  He hears it in the streets and he watches his back constantly.  Mexican drug lords are gearing up to use these tourists for ransom......
Geez....I repeat....Clinton had the exact same...
intelligence that Bush had...Bush inherited most of it from the CLinton administration along with Richard Clarke and George Tenet...and all the democrats were on board for it then, believed it then, LONG before Bush took office. That is fact. So if Bush lied, it is because Clinton lied first and Bush believed him. And one air force colonel is not going to change my mind on this. Do you have any sources but this colonel's book?

It is not weapons grade uranium, correct...yet. But it certainly could be enriched. Don't tell me Saddam kept 500 metric tons for peaceful purposes?

As far as the niger/yellowcake thing...Plame and her husband were right in the middle of that, and she claimed and it is documented that there was no evidence of yellowcake in Iraq at that time. Which we know is a lie, because they just exported 500 metric tons of it last week. So please...I don't buy what the Colonel is selling. You can if you like.

I do not dispute that abortion is legal in this country. I do dispute that the Supreme Court has the write to strike down a perfectly good state law and replace it with an "opinion." If you will check the constitution, it says only the congress can enact law. Not the Supreme court. Issue an opinion, yes. Strike down a law and replace it with the opinion of activist judges...no. It is unconstitutional and should be struck down. But then it would have to go to Congress to be voted into law, and so far congress has not been willing to legislate abortion. So activist judges did. They imposed their will on all of us. That is unconstitutional no matter how you look at it. Suppose conservative judges overturned Rowe vs. Wade, the same as liberal activist judges overturned the state law prohibiting abortion? Would you be as strongly behind that decision or would you be screaming you can't legislate from the bench like I am? LOL.

What is fact that in poll after poll after poll, over 50% of this country are against abortion. Those activist judges took the will of the people and said, basically, up yours, and forced their opinion on all of us. Unconstitutional, unfair, and so much for the majority will of the people.

You are right, it is not my choice. You speak for the right of the mother to choose, I speak for the right of the child to live...and I feel has as much right to life as any human being. Period. And I will fight for it, through legal channels, and hope that some day we may have a conservative majority to overturn Roe Vs. Wade and then put the question on state ballots where it belongs. Let the people decide, because Congress will not touch it with a 10-foot pole.

Geez, listen to ya. Morality is already legislated. We have laws against murder. We have laws against theft. We have laws against pornography. We have laws against child molestation. We have laws against rape. Hellooo....legislating morality. And you better be glad we DO legislate morality. What a statement...we can legislate morality when the American theocracy is established. Good grief!!! If it is all about choice, then why can't we choose to just take whatever we want, no matter who owns it. Why can't we just shoot people who annoy us or get in our way or hurt us. Why can't NAMBLA just grab up all the little boys they want? Because we legislate morality...that's why.

Good grief, we have laws against cruelty to animals, but it is okay to murder millions of babies in the name of "choice." Perhaps that all works in your mind...does not in mine.

As to Bush's contempt
I can't remember the exact sites, but will do some more checking - sm
But I do know that 1 of them referred to an Anchorage newspaper article at the time of when it happened; I don't think it was like a recent article in the Anchorage paper. I am terrible, I read stuff and try to get it all straight and forget to write down or take note of where I saw it, but I will look for it again later when I am done working.
He denies it for the exact reason the interviewer said...
it is a basic tenet of socialism. They want socialism, they just don't want to say it out loud. And Obama is gifted at it. He taught the Alinksy course while he was doing his community organizing. It is patently obvious to most of us, but not to the ones he is pointing it at. He is not pointing it at us...he knows we know better. He is pointing it at his faithful and hoping there are enough of them buying into it to get him in the white house where he can go about his business of turning the US into a socialist state.
You heard him state those exact words? He has

Pay attention. Said the exact opposite of what BT implies.

I am hearing the exact opposite about unemployment
I think what you have posted is absolute rubbish, scare tactics once again. I am hearing not just on the local news but national news about the work situation picking up. I think most repubs are literally cringing inside seeing just what a good job Obama is doing. I just heard from my husband yesterday his job has posting on the board his company is buying 2 additional companies which means more employees, heard about a company in the state building new plant that will hire about 600 people. Like I said, rubbish.
and I made that exact statement in several posts -
but, as I also stated, I do not think it would be awful to have mandatory service for this country in some form. Ya'll can get mad all you want to, but the rich benefit just as much as anybody else, but when it comes time to stand up for this country and defend it and keep it, they hide behind their money, their schooling, anything to keep from serving, so therefore only the poor people are ever at risk.
Germany released him, OUR state department up in arms
and protesting the release...what's the point. It only proves that the U.S. don't want this thugs released...

oops - made a mistake - the other guy's book was released during the campaign -
I am sorry that I was wrong. Obama's book had already been released.

The first copy obviously sold really well though considering the amount of money they paid him to do the sequel.
I agree. This is the exact reason why Colin Powell wouldn't run..sm
He didn't want his privacy or his entire family's personal life to be dug up and exploited by the media. He got a lot of respect from me when he chose to protect what was the most important to him...family.
Funny i heard the exact same line from the Obama campaign spokespeople...
this morning. Almost word for word. I would think being endorsed by an outfit under investigation for voter fraud in 10-12 and more states every day would not be a good thing...but that's just me.

Well as far as voter fraud my friend...so far it is all ACORN all the time, and ACORN is not registering Republicans. For a supposedly "neutral" voter organization....kinda tells the tale, don't you think?
I heard 1 time during this entire cycle about possible Republican voter fraud and that was on the part of 1 man. This is a coordinated, organized effort to steal an election.

Excuse me...in Ohio they registered and voted in a single day so there HAVE been votes cast. And when law enforcement investigates or indicts on voter fraud...they are pretty sure fraud occurred. ACORN has even owned up to the fact that yes, there will be fraud, but they can't monitor the people they hired (felons on work release in one state) and can't check every registration.

Obama DOES have a relationship with them. He spoke at their convention last year. He worked with them on Project Vote and helped train the folks going out to register.

Give him a pass, I don't care. Just don't call people cowardly or hate filled because they aren't on the Obama train. That makes you look hate-filled and cowardly...same thing you accuse others of.
boy are you about a week behind
yessss...the owners changed, much drama. Can't give you any specific info or it will be deleted. sorry.
u only eat once a week?!
I don't want to be rude, but how do u deal the headaches that come with that. I can one meal a day, but once a week, I think unless it the haulocaust or something......I would not be able to concentrate on my work and would rip somebody's head off. I don't know you're circumstances and certainly I pray if its that bad for you, its better. I am sorry if this is rude.
you eat once a week?~

I saw it on MSNBC this week.
I had seen this commercial before, I believe on the Daily Show (Colbert Report maybe?), and I thought it was one of their jokes.  I was amazed to find out it's real!
well, now. Just last week, a first time
child molester (first time caught, anyway) was given probated sentence; I am a lot more irate over that. The doctors will gladly help you get addicted, especially 20 years ago when they thought they could safely use cocaine themselves safely, and then when you are addicted, they drop you like a hot potato. My son was severely injured in a train wreck and after surgeries, he walked and walked and they offered him drugs and he told them, "you're not making an addict out of me; I know how this works". The doctor told him, "good for you". As for the rest of you, I am so glad that I have to ask for forgiveness, I only have to ask God and none of you.
I went to a party last week

to watch the acceptance speech by Obama.  There was one individual at the party who kept talking endlessly and kept trying to re-take the floor after someone spoke about their  interests.  it was incredibly annoying.  Ever had that happen in your life? conversation hog?

Yea, they were talking about him this week.....
He's only about 35 but, of course, that doesn't necessarily mean he can't do the job. It might be a breath of fresh air to have someone younger up there who hasn't been around so long as to become jaded and corrupt like so many.....time will tell.
Seen last week, Wow, wow, shameful NM

Voted last week, but..
wore an old pair of jeans and a white sweat shirt.
Is anyone else celebrating this week?
I wasn't sure where to put this post.  I was talking about the situation of American workers on another board and I couldn't help feeling overjoyed about the change in leadership that is happening.  This could go on the faith board since I have experienced a great renewal in faith after the election.  I honestly didn't think it could happen, but it appears the people are finally awakening from the deep complacency that has allowed the corporations and the dollar to rule.  I came to the politics board to find rampant homophobia.  It seems my post might be out of place amidst all this fear and negativity.  I'm not sure any joy would be tolerated well here; however, I am overjoyed.  Is it no wonder the whole world is rejoicing?  Hallelujah!
$10 a week-what a joke!
You mean our wonderful $10 a week extra that we are going to get in our paychecks that is going to change our spending habits and boost the economy?  Does Obama really believe giving the american public $10 extra going to stimulate this economy?  Really, how smart a man can he be if he thinks this is really going to help?
Ken dra, your taxes went up in just 1 week??
Honest to goodness, in a democratic controlled state. When did the democrats come back in. You make absolutely no sense with the reasoning. Your dear repubs just sent you and your home down the drain, if anything. Why, why do you continue to bash the democrats when they have been out of office for 8 YEARS!!! It seems to me like you really just bit off more than you can chew and now you are having to pay for it. I had 3 homes, 2 rentals and my own personal, paid taxes on all 3 and honey, I had no money problems with them. Next time do your math and maybe you wont get caught in a situation you have made for yourself to start with.
I didn't say that they went up in a week.
Every year before the following year, they send out the assessment and what the new year's taxes will be. I did not bite off more than I could chew. We are doing fine and have never made a late payment. Try not to assume things about me! Washington is democratic-controlled state. Chris Gregoire, the governor, is a Democrat and most of the rest of the officials are. Seattle is a far left city. Before you start telling me that I bit off more than I could chew and judging what I said, perhaps you should try to read it a little better. I did not say anything about Washington D.C. or federal government, I simply countered the OP that said her taxes and property values went up in a red state with the fact that my property taxes went up while my home value went down in a blue state. I am irritated that people who are behind on their house payments can refinance at a lower rate because they are about to lose their houses, while I have to just pay on time because I did the right thing. Finally, I really don't care how many houses you have. Good for you! I am glad you are doing so well and I am sure you are twice as old as I am.
This Week with George S. had

Sen. DeMint, Barney Fife, Fred Smith CEO of FedEX (?), and ? (didn't catch his name and am terrible with names anyway) about the stimulus package. Sen. DeMint is against the stimulus because it doesn't do much to help the American people. Fred Smith took a 20% cut in pay to help the company.

So far, Barney has been monopolizing the conversation and arguing with the others. I heard him say that the problem was not regulating the financial institutions....Wait. Wasn't he one that voted AGAINST regulation back when they wanted to put tighter controls on them?  He also keeps talking about New Bedford. Isn't that his district? I know he's been fighting for the bank in his district. He seems to have a one track mind. What a jerk!!!....and that's why I call him Barney Fife. He has less sense than the real Barney Fife.
