This board has been a vitriolic Democrat-hating board for a long time now and still is.
If/when I post an article (as well as the link coroborrating it), it's because I found it to be interesting, that others may find it interesting, as well, and that hopefully a thoughtful, intelligent discussion might ensue.

In a REAL debate, there is no room or tolerance for personal attacks. Yet, that's all you people know how to do. You can't stay on the issue. In fact, you seem to know everything about anything that ever existed on the planet, exists now or will exist into infinity.
As I (and others) have said repeatedly and you just can't seem to grasp, if you constantly treat people badly, they're not going to want to associate with you. Lurker was very gracious in her posts to all of you on your board, but even she, in the end, couldn't tolerate your continued, nonstop, personal attacks any more (as she indicated in her responses to the attackers). If you ever stop knowing it all and become interested in the proper way of debating someone, you could learn a lot from Lurker. You see, having *thick skin* is only important if you're a thug in a gang somewhere. It's irrelevant when it comes to treating humans like humans, and in that area, you have a lot to learn.
As for me, I like to learn from intelligent, friendly people with different political views, so I visit boards where those kinds of people are found. Not all conservatives are angry, rude, come out swinging and need to personally attack 1,000% of the time. Some of them are actually quite nice and informative, and they can be found on other forums. Too bad they can't be found on MTStars.

Consumer confidence sinks in September
SEP. 27 4:27 P.M. ET Consumer confidence suffered its biggest drop in 15 years in September as Hurricane Katrina made Americans anxious about the rising costs of heating their homes and filling their gas tanks. The decline raised questions about consumer spending for the rest of this year, including the holiday shopping season.
Meanwhile, the government reported Tuesday that new home sales plunged in August by the largest amount in nine months, continuing a string of mixed signals about the health of the housing boom.
The Conference Board said its Consumer Confidence Index, compiled from a survey of U.S. households, dropped 18.9 points to 86.6 from a revised reading of 105.5 in August.
That marked the biggest slide since October 1990, when the index fell 23 points to 62.6 amid the onset of the recession, the buildup to the first Gulf war and a spike in gasoline prices. The September reading was also the lowest level since October 2003, when it registered 81.7.
Analysts had expected the September reading to be 98.
Wall Street took the news of both reports fairly well. The Dow Jones industrial average, up about 30 points before the index was released, fell into negative territory but was only marginally lower.
The Commerce Department said new home sales fell 9.9 percent last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.24 million units. Even with the slowdown, the median sales price rose 2.5 percent from July's level to $220,300. The bigger-than-projected drop in new home sales could signal that the nation's red-hot housing market is starting to slow down, but reports so far are mixed.
In Washington, Republicans were assessing the political impact of the numbers, particularly the drop in consumer confidence, saying it gives them more reason to worry about next year's elections.
These are serious numbers, said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., a political operative-turned-congressman, referring to the consumer confidence figures. The question is whether this is a trend or a reaction to Katrina and Rita.
Cole said he suspects the public's mood will improve by this time next year when Republicans, who control Congress and the White House, will face the judgment of an uneasy electorate. But in the intervening months, he said, the political consequences of consumer anxiety are real serious.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Republicans are on the defensive. Any time our approval ratings go down we have problems. That's why we're working on Katrina. That's why we're working on Rita, he said.
The latest AP-Ipsos Poll, conducted Sept. 6-8, showed more Americans are uneasy about President Bush's handling of the economy. The poll found that 41 percent of respondents approved the president's handling of the economy, while 57 percent disapproved and 1 percent were not sure. That rating is the lowest since January 2002, when Ipsos began tracking Bush's approval ratings.
The drop in consumer confidence, which followed an unexpected gain in August, also raised concerns about shoppers' ability to spend in the critical fall and holiday seasons with gas prices expected to remain at $3 per gallon. That's due to tight supplies and the fact it may take weeks to restart refineries that closed due to Hurricane Rita.
Even before Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast Aug. 29, consumers were struggling to fit higher gasoline prices into their budgets, with that strain showing up in August's modest retail sales gains. Sales have been disappointing again this month, and analysts are concerned that consumers will further retrench when they start paying home heating bills.
Economists closely track consumer confidence because consumer spending accounts for two-thirds of all U.S. economic activity.
Today's numbers show that consumers are not very optimistic about the economy. As a result, we will see consumer spending reduced until we see some relief on energy prices, said Gary Thayer, chief economist at A.G. Edwards & Sons. He added, If we don't get some relief, it looks like it will be a very weak holiday season.
Thayer wasn't as concerned about home sales report, saying the sector was due for a cooling off. However, he doesn't think the housing market is headed for a bust.
Scott Hoyt, director of consumer economics, at Economy.com, was more upbeat about consumers, warning against reading too much into September's confidence figures. He noted that the key fundamentals for spending -- employment and income -- are holding up.
We need to be careful not to overstate the potential (of consumer confidence) on consumer spending, he said.
While there have been job losses along the Gulf Coast as a result of Katrina's fallout, economists predict overall healthy job gains of 169,000 when the Labor Department reports its figures Oct. 7.
Still, how fast consumer sentiment will rebound to the 100 reading seen over the past year remains to be seen.
Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board's Consumer Research Center, noted that as rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Katrina take hold and job growth gains momentum, confidence should return to more positive levels by year-end or early 2006.

So now with my taxed insuring kids -- I can supervise their lifestyle, eating habits, etc.
Insurance premiums for kids only are not that expensive, adults can go without if they want their children to have insurance. Why should I pay for that. So now, if my tax dollars are going for that, can I go up to an overweight kid and start monitoring their diet, can I watch what they eat, make sure that they get enough exercise, not be exposed to second hand smoke, etc. Because if the government starts to provide everything for these kids, pretty soon they will be telling everyone what to feed, how to exercise, and everything else. Why don't we just hand over our paychecks to the government and they can just take care of us.

Study: Tax burden growing heavier for middle class

WASHINGTON -- President Bush’s tax cuts since 2001 have shifted more of the tax burden from the nation’s rich to middle-class families, according to a study released Friday by the Congressional Budget Office.
The tax rate declined across all income levels -- but more so in the top brackets, the report said.
People in the top 20 percent of incomes, averaging $182,700 a year, saw their share of federal taxes decline from 65.3 percent of total payments in 2001 to 63.5 percent this year, according to the study by congressional budget analysts.
In contrast, middle-class taxpayers -- with incomes ranging from $51,500 to $75,600 -- bear a greater tax burden. Those making an average of $75,600 had the biggest jump in their share of taxes, from 18.5 percent of all payments in 2001 to 19.5 percent this year.
The study, requested by congressional Democrats in May, is expected to provide fodder for the presidential campaign over the fairness of more than $1 trillion in tax cuts Bush has pushed through Congress since taking office.
“George W. Bush keeps trying to mislead Americans into thinking we’re turning the corner, but truth is that he is turning his back on middle-class families,” Kerry spokesman Phil Singer said. “The Bush policies are exacerbating the squeeze that working families have been feeling for the last four years.”
Bush-Cheney campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said, “Because of President Bush’s policies every American pays less in taxes today than they did before he became president...John Kerry has promised to raise taxes during the campaign. That is the clear choice Americans will have in the fall elections.”
The study found that the effective tax rate for the top 1 percent of taxpayers dropped from 33 percent in 2001 to 26.7 percent this year, a decline of 19 percent. The middle 20 percent of taxpayers saw a decline of 4 percent.
The study is based on figures in 2001 and assumes no changes in wealth distribution from increases in income, dividends or capital gains.

Please explain to me just how all this Obama trashing is addressing the problem you have with a cowardly candidate who by his own admission does not understand econmics and will stoop lower than the stock market plunge to be elected? A better example of "country last" could not be found. If this is any indication of how a McCain administration behaves in a crisis, we can all look forward to a landslide for Democrats across the board. T-minus 25 and counting.

The onus of birth control is not gender specific. My own son learned this lesson when he was 9 years old when his only cousin was diagnosed with HIV. He takes precautions and asks the right questions. He does not have sex with women who are not willing to show him the pill or discuss openly with him how they would respond to an unwanted pregnancy...and he makes his own views plainly known in no uncertain terms...that he does not feel he is ready for the responsibilities of fatherhood and that he ALSO has the right to make this decision without moral persecution.
Most women share the news of a pregnancy with the father in the hopes that he will take on the responsibilities of fatherhood. The ones who do not more than likely already know what the answer will be. Unwanted pregnancies have a way isolating the mother, blaming her for having gotten pregnant in the first place in much the same way you have inferred in your parting shot (as though the father has suddenly become canceled out of the equation) and giving all sorts of folks license to condemn and weigh in on the decision. In the event that support is forthcoming, most women WILL have the child more often than not.

The Black Panthers remind me of just how far things had to go and how hard they had to fight before black people in this country were given their civil rights. The Panthers are a part of that history and have as much right as anybody to be there. When Clinton was in, my brother had a construction business and was going gangbusters. I did a drive down the whole California coastline, a trip to Vegas, New Orleans, Manhattan, Aruba, Florida....that's all I can think of....I was a single mom of 2 teenagers, bought a home, eventually bought a newer car and worked 4 days a week as an MT at a hospital then promoted to supervisor (made less money in that position, go figure)
In comes Bush - got remarried, moved to another city, kids are gone, husband professional, I was a supervisor (making $90,000 year between the 2 of us) and we could afford to go out to eat once in awhile. Our house is tiny, we are down to one car, husband is laid off and my health is in the toilet (stress will kill you). I was doing much better before the Bush years and my brother's construction company went belly up shortly after Bush was "elected" and he's been scrambling for work ever since. It's like you and I traded places........

Phone jam gets Tobin jail time

CONCORD - Former Republican National Committee official James Tobin was sentenced to 10 months in prison Wednesday for his role in an Election Day phone-jamming plot against New Hampshire Democrats.
Tobin, of Bangor, Maine, was found guilty in December on two felony telephone harassment charges. He also was fined $10,000, followed by two years probation. Prosecutors had asked for a two-year prison sentence.
Tobin, 45, was convicted of helping a top state GOP official find someone to jam Democratic get-out-the-vote lines on Election Day 2002. Republican John Sununu defeated then-Gov. Jeanne Shaheen for the U.S. Senate that day in what had been considered a cliffhanger.
Tobin was a regional official of the RNC and of the GOP committee focused on winning U.S. Senate races. He later became New England chairman of President Bush’s 2004 re-election campaign, but stepped down when Democrats accused him of playing a role in the jamming.
U.S. District Judge Steven McAuliffe said Wednesday he was impressed by character witnesses who testified on Tobin’s behalf, but wished Tobin had a better sense of how serious this was.
Tobin apologized to the court, the community and his family, saying he wished he hadn’t gotten involved or acted to stop it.
I have tried to live my life honestly and with integrity, he said.
Bail pending his appeal was denied; Tobin is scheduled to report to prison on June 23.

You kept saying affordable health care. Tax refunds for premiums paid is more affordable. You could have had that and had that right now if the Dems would have compromised. They did not. I have no problem with SCHIP as it was. It would still be rocking along fine had the Dems not killed it with their "my way or the highway" attitude. Okay..you don't mind if your taxes go up to give middle class families a break...even if it includes adding more illegals to the program. I do mind if my taxes go to that. You don't mind that people who are paying premiums now and managing to do so will get off private insurance and on a program if that bill had passed. I have a problem with that. Why not give them the tax refund that Bush wanted to for paying those premiums instead of putting them on a program? You still get what you say you want...insured kids. What this all seems to boil down to is that you, and I guess other middle class families who are paying insurance premiums now but think they are too high think the government should pay them for you. I just don't happen to think that is the answer.

was the comment in disproportionate numbers. There is nothing to support that contention. Obviously there is a problem with pedophilia among priests...but not in any more disproportionate numbers than in the rest of the population. Teachers, coaches, daycare workers and owners..next door neighbors and relatives. THAT was the point.
