None. Bush gave him the job for helping out in campaign (sm)

Guess he figured anybody could fill the spot. I believe there might be other top officials of FEMA who also got jobs instead of thank you notes for helping Bush be reelected.

Around the time of the campaign, a document came out citing FEMA's lack of qualified leadership, but it was pretty much dismissed as political mud-slinging.

Obama campaign gave over 800K dollars
xx
And what about the promise Bush gave, I think about capturing him?
Well, we saw how far that went. By-by Bush.
Bush gave Obama's cronies a bailout?
Was it a housewarming gift?
Bush only interested in Iraq, ག campaign

http://www.insightmag.com/Media/MediaManager/delegates.htm (a conservative site, no less!)

President Bush has decided to stay out of the lion's share of decisions made by his administration.

Sources close to the administration said that over the last year, Mr. Bush has chosen to focus on two issues, leaving the rest to be decided by Cabinet members and senior aides. They said the issues are Iraq and the Republican congressional campaign in the 2006 elections.

Lots of important issues that deal with national security are never brought to the president because he doesn't want to deal with them, a source familiar with the White House said. In some cases, this has resulted in chaos.

The White House has acknowledged that Mr. Bush was not informed of the administration’s decision to approve a $6.85 billion takeover by the United Arab Emirates of a British firm that operates at least six major ports in the United States. The decision triggered a public firestorm and strong bipartisan opposition on Capitol Hill. This prompted the Dubai-owned company last week to bail on its bid to operate terminals in U.S. ports.

Vice President Dick Cheney also was not informed of the approval of the port takeover by the state-owned Dubai Ports World. The process was administered by the Treasury Department-aligned Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), which sparked opposition from most of the Republican leadership in Congress.

My take on this is that the president relied on his CFIUS board, this Committee on Foreign Investment; that they did a superficial scrub on this, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter said on March 7.

They've been trained to be more of a business, or more of an arm of the administration which is designed to expedite or to shape acquisitions so that they can take place rather than to stop acquisitions, said Mr. Hunter, California Republican.

The sources said Mr. Bush's lack of involvement on most issues has led to numerous errors in judgment. They said the DP World episode was handled by the Treasury and Commerce departments. From there, the proposed sale was meant to have been relayed through the National Security Council for a White House decision.

It should have gone to Karl Rove and then gone up the chain, the source said. For some reason, it didn't. I don't think people understood how important this was in terms of both national security and politics.

Mr. Hunter and other members of the House Armed Services Committee were shocked over how little White House staffers knew of the security record of the UAE, cited in testimony to the 9/11 commission as having withheld cooperation regarding al Qaeda in 1999. Last week, Mr. Hunter and Rep. Jim Saxton, New Jersey Republican, brought evidence of how the UAE port of Dubai allowed shipments of nuclear components as well as heavy water and a precursor to nerve gas to countries such as Iran, Libya and Pakistan.

In 2003, Mr. Hunter said, Dubai allowed the shipment of 66 high-speed electrical switches designed to trigger and detonate nuclear weapons. He said Dubai rejected a U.S. request to stop the shipment.

The point is that if you are an outlaw regime, and you want to develop a nuclear weapons program, you have your components transshipped through Dubai, Mr. Hunter said. Dubai is a master at masking both the recipient of illegitimate weapons systems and the party that is sending, developing, selling those illegitimate weapons systems. I don't think those are the folks you want to have running your ports.

Neither Mr. Bush nor any of his aides ordered a change in CFIUS deliberations that would stress the security aspect of any foreign investments or operations in the United States. Mr. Saxton said the 9/11 attacks by al Qaeda had virtually no affect on the process.

The current system was designed, from what we can understand, to encourage foreign investment in our country, Mr. Saxton said. And 9/11 changed a lot of things, and CFIUS didn't change. And I guess it changed in some respects. We added a representative from the Department of Homeland Security, but it was still under the leadership of the Department of the Treasury. And so the mission of CFIUS remains pre-9/11, while the situation in post-9/11 is much different.

Obama's campaign called McCain's campaign.
This was reported an hour or two before McCain had his little news conference.  Shouldn't take to heart too much of what McCain says as he is a known liar.
I don't think he's helping his own cause
From what I saw, he just comes across as a weasel. I'm not sure what he hopes to accomplish.
you are the ones helping the terrorists
It is Bush and you and people who think like you who have put us at risk.  We now have a full fledged terrorist state/breeding ground in Iraq because of Bush's war..That has put us at great risk for decades to come.  Before Bush invaded, we had a few radicals that if we kept our focus we could have hunted down in Afghanistan and eliminated.  Instead Bush invaded Iraq for no go reason other than to have a presence in the Middle East for control of the Middle East.  Where is bin Laden?  Why are we fighting in Iraq?  Why are we there?  The real murderer is somewhere in Afghanistan or Pakistan.  Yet, you people continue to back this war when there is no logical good reason to have entered into it or to stay there.  You and your man Bush are helping the terrorists, you have given them every reason to continue to multiply and hate us even more.  You are throwing oil on fire.  I want to put out the fire.
Thank you attorneys for helping the little guy
Thank you attorneys who deal with helping the little guy against enormous corporations and their deceit and corruption in America and those in government who allow it.  Thank you and may you grow and prosper in helping us find justice.
I'm glad someone is helping.
Shame on this administration!
The idea of helping

lower income families really is a neighborly idea.  We should help others.  However, we need to look at the big picture here.  When you continually give free handouts at the expense of others, not only do you make the people actually earning the money bitter, but you create a whole new problem with people expecting the government to bail them out and give them free handouts.  Yes, it may help some people but on the whole it will only create more government spending because more people will become dependent on the goverment taking care of them.  It is like a huge snowball rolling down a mountain and it just gets bigger and bigger and faster and faster until it buries us all.  We cannot afford more government programs.  We cannot afford to pay for health care for everyone.

People are so blinded by the slogan of change that they will jump on any bandwagon.  Open your eyes!  The last thing we need right now is bigger government.  Bigger government will only cause more government spending and our country will fail horribly!

by helping your children
actual CHOICE about where your money is going. What about all the people out there who have no back bone and just want something for nothing?
yes, thank you, everyone is praying for me and it is really helping....nm
X
Yep those mean conservatives are over there helping Israel

Yep, they'll be back when all the Lebanese are dead, because all us conservatives are evil like that.

i don't mind working and helping out others
but would prefer to choose who I help... not the government telling me
So your idea of helping the less fortunate is
to give them freebies all their life so they don't have to do anything to earn it, thereby encouraging them to do nothing else, have no motivation, and just depend on the government? I think we have enough of those as it is.

Too bad I don't hear Obama saying get yourselves up, get yourself educated, and go make a life for yourselves!!!

Proof to me he likes to keep them dumb and uneducated so he can be "their leader".
Thank you for helping illustrate just how impotent
x
Don't worry - he's for helping us poor MTs
NM
Trust me, you aren't helping yourself here..(sm)
All you are doing is putting a big bulls eye on your back.
Cindy isn't interested in helping the victims down there. She's just mad they are stealing
her thunder.  Hopefully, she will be relegated to the pathetic pawn that she is and real news of real importance will come back to the world.  Every time she speaks, she puts our troops in danger.  The troops even said so, but she is too far gone to listen to the troops. They are all brainwashed.
I agree. I am helping the victims with all the financial support I can spare BUT
if we don't ask the question what happened to the levees, what can we do to make sure this doesn't happen again, where did the funding go? then we will find ourselves in the same position again. We can not afford to be policing other countries when the funding is bankrupt for our own needs. That's just the truth.

And so helping them means just giving them a check and food stamps? SM

What about providing them the tools to deal with and live a productive life with their handicap or mental illness?  The problem with the liberals and their idea of helping humanity is that throwing money at the problem doesn't make it go away.  Do you know how many homeless people out there suffer with mental illness?  Do you know how many people with mentally ill family members weren't able to get their loved one the help they needed?  I'm talking tangible help, not just a monthly stipend that doesn't even cover the meds they require!

Do you realize that your husband, mother, father, sister brother, who ever can slice their wrists and take a handful of pills in an attempt to commit suicide, admit to their family they don't want to live, but when they show up to the ER and say "I didn't really want to kill myself" they just let them walk away with stitches in their wrists and after they've pumped their stomachs?  Did you know that even if they holler in the ER to the doctor, nurse, and social worker that they don't want to live and the most a family member can do to help their loved is an affadavit for a 96-hour hold in most states?  After 96 hours, they are deemed "okay" and released again to go on their merry way.

The liberal lawmakers have passed laws that say a mentally ill person has the right to be mentally ill.  They have a right to decide not to take their meds and they have a right to be homeless.  They are allowed to make decisions on their own which are detrimental to their well being, both physically and mentally!  A family member pleading to the court that this person is incompetent and cannot take themselves is virtually ignored.  I dare anyone to try to go to a court of law and get POA over a mentally ill loved one and see just how difficult it really is.  It's impossible thanks to the liberals.

It's just too easy -- the idea that keeping American jobs in America actually helping the economy

Nope, let's spend a few million and buy new furniture for homeland security and a few million more to buy hybrids for congress.

Can they not deduce that keeping corporate America from offshoring jobs will actually create more jobs, thereby lower the unemployment rate, and put more money in American's pocket for them to spend?  Cut all tax cuts given to companies for offshoring and give the tax cuts to companies to strive to keep jobs in America?

And here's another V8 moment -- how about we buy American?  Maybe increase tariffs on imported goods to discourage American companies from importing so much crapy and thereby necessitating said crap be sold at higher prices in an effort to discourage Americans from buying imports?

The ONLY way to help the American economy is to employ Americans and buy American!  It's that simple!

How about the one God gave us?

*You reap what you sow.* That's what they've done.

Anyhoo, thought you said you were leaving.  Hmmmmmmmm.... they didn't have a real high regard for the truth, either.

To anyone else reading this: This person isn't even trying to hide the fact that he/she is baiting us.  Let's not permit them to do to the Liberal board what they did to the Conservative board.

Just don't read this person's posts any more.  They said they were leaving.  They aren't doing that, and their only intention is to incite. Let's take the high road and not fall for their crap!

You just gave yourself away, gt. SM
LMFAO = gt and a whole lot of other posters.  You don't fool me.
Yes, and he said he gave her a ZERO.

What if they gave an election and nobody came?

Do you think this will be a high voter turn-out year?  Voter registrations are waaaay up this year.  (Barring, of course, the fraudulent registrations which will hopefully have been resoved by election day.)

It's certainly been the most hotly contested campaign season I can recall - and I've been voting since the late 70s.  There's so much bravado and blustering coming from both camps, and the media clearly chose their darling many moons ago, it seems like people will either be so sick of it, or apathetic about the outcome, that a lot of folks simply won't bother to show up.

I know there's been a massive push to register young voters.  Our college campus has been crawling with people trying to stir up support for a certain candidate.  My daughter and her friends are apporached every time they attend an event, from football games to local band open mic nights.  But do you think everyone will actually turn up on election day?

And this may be totally UN-PC, but I'm not so sure everybody SHOULD vote.  I mean, if you're too lazy to register, are you really going to be doing your due diligence and educating yourself about each candidate's policies and proposals?

What do you all think about it?

I did that below. Also gave the name of the site.
.
Exactly, he never gave a definitive
answer to one question tonight. For that matter, he never does. It is always beat around the bush and then "lets talk about the issues people want to hear" and then never tell us anything. You never get a straightforward answer from him or from any of his constituents. No one can tell you what he plans to do or how he plans to do it.
Huh? What do you mean cases? He gave me...sm
his opinion, very simple case he said, open and shut. He is my brother, I didn't ask for a $500 legal consultation. Good grief.
Well now....who do you think gave them that authority?
That would be your democratically controlled congress. Before the bill, the secretary of the treasury couldn't do squat. So if Bush IS making all these decisions, it is because YOUR dem congress allowed him to. So why not go hold THEIR feet to the fire??
Just who gave Indonesia the right
to denounce a U.S. citizen's AMERICAN citizenship.  Who cares what Indonesia did.  At the time Obama was a kid for crying out loud and the school or government could put whatever they wanted on whatever they wanted.  This citizenship non-issue gets more absurd with every post about it.
Oh, please, I gave as much as I could for Obama and I
am not a member of ACORN. You people just will not give up and know - yes we can and did!!!
OMG, you gave me a big laugh. And what about
the black/red dress Michelle wore when O held his victory speech in Illinois? Comments were: Different, astonishing etc......????
I gave you a joke......maybe you should
aim your bile at the first poster. While picking up ammo for my handgun last weekend - the salesman said "better stock up before the brownies come for us" - that's a redneck...............aka a$$hole
Hey, I gave you a pass on

'most of the people there was'.  Or was that intentional?

We don't usually rag on hurried typo errors because we have no spell check on this forum.  But not bothering to look up a spelling or making a rookie grammatical error are both noteworthy.

Now that gave me cold chills. SM
Mostly because I feel this very sentiment oozing from this board.  Man, I hope none of the terrorists read here.
In the case you gave if the teacher said...sm
*I'm not in any way trying to tell you what you should believe of think but I am going to put this out there for you thing about...Some people believe Jesus Christ died and was born again for the sins of man.*

I still wouldn't see the problem. You have to listen to the entire statement. He said pointedly that he was not trying to tell the students how they should believe. But, if all you got over the newswaves were the butt end *Jesus died and was born again for the sins of man* then the entire point would be lost anyway.

That said, I think this teacher needs to find a job in a political science class where his comments would be more appropriate. I don't think he should be fired but a) moved to a political science class or b) told to stick to the cirriculum. I don't think either will be enough for those out for blood on this case.

I gave you two facts which you discounted...
a video that is a fact and a 747 that is a fact. If you want to think it just appeared in the desert for no good reason...that is up to you. If you see a video that is obviously Muhamed Atta and a man identified by all intelligence sources as being part of Hussein's government, and that they were probably just old buds having tea, that is also up to you. Both of those were reported on CNN, which is NOT a far right wing anything, much the opposite. Even dear old Wesley Clark admitted to both, and he is about as far left as you can get. And, my friend, your bias causes you to discard fact simply because it does not fit your agenda. What you are posting is your opinion based on what you accept or do not accept from what you read, just like mine is. What I have not discounted is video evidence and a 747. Makes me wonder what it will take to open your eyes if 9-11 did not do it. Oh yeah. I forgot. 9-11 had nothing to do with Saddam Hussein. Yeah. Uh huh. I had almost forgotten how condescending you can be in your postings. Thanks for reminding me. Good day!
Ok, I was wrong...gave you too much credit.
Go ahead and Bush-bash. Probably giving someone else a rest.
I gave source in first line of

post.  Also said if you believe they are reliable on John Edwards, then you must believe they are reliable on SP.  hence, goose, gander.

My pastor gave info
This was not biased, showed side by side the two candidates and their moral issue debates. He did tell us that we could speak to him afterwards on a personal, friendly basis and ask if we wanted to know who he would recommend outside of church. Anybody who reads their Bible knows who any pastor is going to vote for based just on abortion issues, etc.
How did we get from O gave an honest answer
to this incoherent whatever it is?

The address you gave is not his residence.
Well, seems as though the rumor factor is alive and well. A little research is in order when passing along the latest gossip, so here you go.

Rahm Emmanuel lives at 4232 N. Hermitage. Here's a link to show you a copy of his paid-in-full property tax on his homestead exempted residence:

http://www.sangamonwatercolor.org/cap/rahmbillpaidfull.jpg

I found it here:
http://www.progressillinois.com/2008/11/07/rahm-emanuel-property-taxes

The address you gave is the office of the Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Foundation. They donate to the charities of their choice. Big whoop. You seem to have missed the point of the article, but let's say this loud and clear. Rahm Emmanuel is not evading property taxes on his home, as you can see from the link provided above that clearly shows how much me pays on his residence. There is no THERE there.
And I gave him money and he can spend anyway he wants.
I will be watching with great expectations.
Said he had lots of money, I know I gave as much as I could.
NM
China gave (or "loaned") sm
us money, so we owe them. I think my statement and yours is saying the same thing, just from a different perspective.

I don't know what you mean by not being able to "help" me with my last statement. It speaks for itself and does not require any help. If, by your statement, you mean you don't understand, this has been discussed many times on this board and the faith board. If you don't understand, I would be happy to help you.
