    Oh boy! Faux News? Really?
My goodness - I wonder who stirred this pot. Who organized these families? Hmm. I smell a conspiracy. Why didn't these families approach Bushbag? Strange doings, I must say. Not allowed back on the grounds? Wow! Says who?
watch Faux news they are all

about flags, lipstick, crosses in the sand -- all the symbolic distraction you could ever, ever hope for.

    Faux news and Huff

The difference is essential.  Huff backs up what it says.  It is openly democrat-leaning.  It is okay to be biased, one must just admit to the fact and not try to disguise their bias like Faux does.  If Faux just came out and said we are repub-owned and controlled and we will say anything to defeat the dems, there would be problem with them  It's the coverup that gets em everytime.

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling the transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image; make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. GOP Pays Legal Bills in Vote-Thwart Case

By JOHN SOLOMON, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Republican Party says it still has a zero-tolerance policy for tampering with voters even as it pays the legal bills for a former Bush campaign official charged with conspiring to thwart Democrats from voting in New Hampshire.

James Tobin, the president's 2004 campaign chairman for New England, is charged in New Hampshire federal court with four felonies accusing him of conspiring with a state GOP official and a GOP consultant in Virginia to jam Democratic and labor union get-out-the-vote phone banks in November 2002.

The Republican National Committee already has spent more than $722,000 to provide Tobin, who has pleaded innocent, a team of lawyers from the high-powered Washington law firm of Williams & Connolly. The firm's other clients have included former President Clinton and Sen. Hillary Clinton and former Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros.

Republican Party officials said they don't ordinarily discuss specifics of their legal work, but confirmed to The Associated Press they had agreed to underwrite Tobin's defense because he was a longtime supporter and that he assured them he had committed no crimes.

"Jim is a longtime friend who has served as both an employee and an independent contractor for the RNC," a spokeswoman for the RNC, Tracey Schmitt, said Wednesday. "This support is based on his assurance and our belief that Jim has not engaged in any wrongdoing."

A telephone firm was paid to make repeated hang-up phone calls to overwhelm the phone banks in New Hampshire and prevent them from getting Democratic voters to the polls on Election Day 2002, prosecutors allege. Republican John Sununu won a close race that day to be New Hampshire's newest senator.

At the time, Tobin was the RNC's New England regional director, before moving to President Bush's 2004 re-election campaign.

A top New Hampshire Party official and a GOP consultant already have pleaded guilty and cooperated with prosecutors. Tobin's indictment accuses him of specifically calling the GOP consultant to get a telephone firm to help in the scheme.

"The object of the conspiracy was to deprive inhabitants of New Hampshire and more particularly qualified voters ... of their federally secured right to vote," states the latest indictment issued by a federal grand jury on May 18.

The Republican Party has repeatedly and pointedly disavowed any tactics aimed at keeping citizens from voting since allegations of voter suppression surfaced during the Florida recount in 2000 that tipped the presidential race to Bush.

Earlier this week, RNC chairman Ken Mehlman, the former White House political director, reiterated a "zero-tolerance policy" for any GOP official caught trying to block legitimate votes.

"The position of the Republican National Committee is simple: We will not tolerate fraud; we will not tolerate intimidation; we will not tolerate suppression. No employee, associate or any person representing the Republican Party who engages in these kinds of acts will remain in that position," Mehlman wrote Monday to a group that studied voter suppression tactics.

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean on Thursday questioned Mehlman's commitment to the policy. "This is just another example of his say one thing, do another strategy. Ken Mehlman tells crowds his party is against voter fraud and intimidation, while in the backrooms he supports Republican officials who engage in these dirty tricks," Dean said.

Dennis Black and Dane Butswinkas, two Williams & Connolly lawyers for Tobin, did not return calls seeking comment. Brian Tucker, a New Hampshire lawyer on the team, declined comment.

Tobin's lawyers have attacked the prosecution, suggesting evidence was improperly introduced to the grand jury, that their client originally had been promised he wouldn't be indicted and that he was improperly charged under one of the statutes.

Tobin stepped down from his Bush-Cheney post a couple of weeks before the November 2004 election after Democrats suggested he was involved in the phone bank scheme. He was charged a month after the election.

Paul Twomey, a volunteer lawyer for New Hampshire Democrats who are pursuing a separate lawsuit involving the phone scheme, said he was surprised the RNC was willing to pay Tobin's legal bills and that it suggested more people may be involved.

The new development "really raises the questions of who are they protecting, how high does this go and who was in on this," Twomey said.

Federal prosecutors have secured testimony from the two convicted conspirators in the scheme directly implicating Tobin.

Charles McGee, the New Hampshire GOP official who pleaded guilty, told prosecutors he informed Tobin of the plan and asked for Tobin's help in finding a vendor who could make the calls that would flood the phone banks.

Allen Raymond, a former colleague of Tobin who operated a Virginia-based telephone services firm, told prosecutors Tobin called him in October 2002, explained the telephone plan and asked Raymond's company to help McGee implement it.

Raymond's lawyer told the court that Tobin made the request for help in his official capacity as the top RNC official for New England and his client believed the RNC had sanctioned the activity.

    your attempts at race baiting

are disgusting and all too obvious to do any damage.  Study the issues we are facing, quit trying to stir up hate.

I am aware of the pitiful attempts
smear Obama over his ACORN "ties." Suing over rerdlining merely "bullied" the banks into treating minority and white loan applicants equally and was hardly responsible for the predatory lending practices ALREADY IN PLACE at the time. The operative word here with regard to O's "association" with ACORN is WAS. Personally, I cannot fault a guy for involving himself in voter registration drives. So what if they endorsed him? He's the better candidate and certainly represents their interests in minority social issues better than McCain. Voter fraud investigation is ongoing. Perhaps we should wait for the results of the investigation before drawing any conclusions, especially since you seem to be trying to insinuate that O somehow is trying to throw the race...a charge that will never gain any political capital coming from the party who in the past 8 years has written the book on voter fraud. Its a little hard to understand exactly how the current accusations rise to the level of voter fraud BEFORE the votes have even been cast. The only thing dirty here is the pathetic attempts on the part of the McCain campaign to spread hatred and division in their cowardly attempts to avoid talking about the economy elephant in the room.
Are you aware of any attempts to suppress
Or am I missing something here?
There've been alot of foiled attempts. So far,
With Bush (& hopefully the current republican candidates) out of the White House, the risk of terrorist attacks against the US should start to become less.
There were assassination attempts on WHITE Presidents. Did the assassinators
think they might not really be white? or that they were too young to run a country?
    Success!!

Glad to see you made it.  This board was very confusing for me when they changed it.  Wasn't sure for a while where I was going to end up half the time!!!

I'm kicking myself because I didn't see that interview you described above.  And I'd been watching O'Reilly a little bit more often than usual, too.  Have been much busier with work lately.  Maybe I could visit the website and find the transcript, although your description of it upset me enough, and I'm not sure I want to be upset today.  To me, there are just some people who are off limits to attack, and families of soldiers who were killed in Iraq (especially mothers) are those people!  I've seen parents in the past who were still supportive of the president after their child was killed, and I totally respected every single word they said.  Then there are also parents like Ms. Sheehan and Kesterer, whose opinions I also respect.

If anyone has a right to object to this war, it's the mother of a slain soldier who has made the ultimate sacrifice.  O'Reilly should be suspended like Novak was.

Anyway, it's really nice to see you here, and I hope you find this a safer, more pleasant place to be than the Conservative board (sans the obvious posters who are only here to insult and harass).

    Have a great day!

    Welfare Reform is a Success

    Welfare Reform Reauthorized

Healthy Marriage, Fatherhood Initiative Approved; Work Requirement Strengthened

Today, President George W. Bush signed the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, which reauthorizes the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program administered by HHS’ Administration for Children and Families (ACF).

"The reauthorization of the TANF program takes the next step in welfare reform by strengthening work requirements and providing the assistance families need to climb the career ladder," HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt said. "Welfare reform is helping millions of people climb out of poverty. Now, we want to go the next step and help them climb the job ladder by creating more opportunities for education and job training."

The new law maintains the same 50 percent work participation requirement for states as before. However, prior to today’s reauthorization, a caseload reduction credit allowed states to reduce their work requirement by their caseload decline since 1996. As most states experienced dramatic caseloads declines, the credit had virtually eliminated the work participation requirements for most states.

Today's reauthorization recalibrates the base year for calculating the caseload reduction credit and also closes a loophole to include separate state programs in the work calculation. These changes effectively re-implement a meaningful state work participation rate requirement as envisioned by the architects of welfare reform back in 1996.

"The reauthorization of welfare reform, with its strengthened state work participation rate requirement, supports the Bush Administration's goal of ending the crippling cycle of welfare dependency," said HHS Assistant Secretary for Children and Families, Wade F. Horn, Ph.D. "Welfare reform is a success because more families and individuals are working and entering the economic mainstream and fewer children are growing up in poverty."

Today's reauthorization includes $150 million to support programs designed to help couples form and sustain healthy marriages. Up to $50 million of this amount may be used for programs designed to encourage responsible fatherhood. In its welfare reform law of 1996, Congress stipulated three of the four purposes of the TANF block grant to states be related to promoting healthy marriages.

"A key component of welfare reform is supporting healthy marriages and responsible fatherhood," Dr. Horn added. “Approval of these funds will help to achieve welfare reform's ultimate goal: improving the well-being of children."

The Healthy Marriage Initiative, administered by ACF, was created in 2002 by President Bush to help couples who have chosen marriage gain greater access to marriage education services, on a voluntary basis, where they can acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to form and sustain a healthy marriage. Funding for responsible fatherhood includes initiatives to help men be more committed, involved and responsible fathers, and the development of a national media campaign to promote responsible fatherhood.

The welfare reauthorization provisions also made several improvements to the child support enforcement program, including a change that will provide more support directly to families, especially those who have left welfare.

For more information on the Healthy Marriage Initiative, view: http://www.acf.hhs.gov/healthymarriage/.

Baby steps is the key to success!
President Obama knows exactly what he is doing. He knows it won't happen overnight, and he knows it is not always going to please everyone, but he know that it must be done!
His comment that it was a success is about as good as
On the day (after a whole week) of the dollar dropping.

He's so out of touch and his lack of experience really shows.

A little more unsettling news about Obama...
I read that Madeline Albright (of Clinton Administration fame) is one of his top security and foreign relations advisors.  The same Madeline Albright who was instrumental in the sanctions against Iraq (yes, Clinton wanted to get rid of him too).  I wondered where Obama was getting his idea about "sanctions" and an "international coalition" against Iran (after he had to back down on his 'I would talk to Ahmadinejad face to face with no rules' remark...loose quote).  That is very unsettling to me.  Most people have forgotten how many Iraqi civilians died as a result of those sanctions because any food going into the country Hussein kept for himself and his party...over a million people died, half of those children.  That is 500,000 children.  That is a death toll MUCH greater than the entire Iraq war has caused....so if you are a body counter, it would serve you well to remember that.  And that same Madeline Albright, when asked if it was worth it, replied, basically, "We think the price is worth it."  She later apologized for the remark; however, here she is again hawking sanctions and Obama is on the train.  Sanctions don't work.  Didn't work in Iraq, won't work in Iran.  Much "food" for thought.
Yeah, that was on the news. Obama almost

At least McCain has class and leadership in this area.

    Obama is...well....just for Obama

depends on how you measure success I guess....
He only got a 4-5 point bounce in the polls and lost that the next week. Not all Americans were impressed with his "citizen of the world" speech. There are those of us who wonder where his real allegiance lies. No wonder.

By the way, when I say "hoohah" I don't mean the word you refer to. Apparently it does not mean the same thing in my neck of the woods. If I want to intimate the 4-letter word I would certainly do it more directly...not my style.

There is no way that little speech in Germany was "diplomacy." And gee, call me old-fashioned, but I think if you are running for Pres of the US, you should give your political speeches HERE.

I did not demand, nor have I heard anyone else demand that Obama admit the surge is working. It is obvious that it is. The fact that he chooses to ignore it does not give me any more faith in his ability to run the country or take care of national security issues, and makes me doubt his honesty. As to being true to his beliefs...didn't take him long to throw his lifelong friend and mentor the Reverend Wright under the bus for political expediency. There's that trust thing again.

How anyone can say, faced with all the info out there about him and how he handled the Wright thing (which was in name only, you don't stay in a church for 20 years that is built on black liberation theology if you don't believe it)...and say with a straight face he is being true to his beliefs.

Well, I take that back...he IS being true to his hard left socialist/Marxist beliefs. Already wants to redistribute wealth aka economic parity, a big element of the black liberatin theology...by taxing oil companies and redistributing their profits to people who did nothing to earn it. How much more socialist approaching Marxist could you possibly be? In that, yes, I would agree...he is being true to his socialist/Marxist beliefs. You got me there.
Success is sweet.. jealousy is ugly
    he won! hahaha
Good for Fox News...they refused to run an ad against Obama...

put together by a private citizen (not the McCain campaign), the same guy who was behind the swift boat ads against Kerry.  They could have run it and they chose not to.  Good for them!  I admit, there is cause for concern about Obama's connection to Ayers, but that kind of ad where it is mean accusation and innuendo with no real proof shouldn't be run, in my opinion.  Good for them for stepping up.

Heard in the news that Obama can never reason with Iran.
Maybe you all might know this, but this is news to my ears. During most of President of Iran Ahmadinejad's speeches he always states this:

0, Almighty God, all men and women are Your creatures and You have ordained their guidance and salvation. Bestow upon humanity that thirsts for justice, the perfect human being promised to all by You, and make us among his followers and among those who strive for his return and his cause.

Who is this human being promised to all?

Their new messiah. The way this new messiah appears is by getting rid of little Satan and big Satan. Iran muslims,(I was told there are 2 type of muslims) believe when messiah appears, there has to be a lot of blood shed.

WHO IS THE LITTLE SATAN AND BIG SATAN?:

Israel's role is first of all to protect itself, but also to alert others to the danger of militant Islam. They intend to go after Israel, but for them Israel is merely the "little Satan," one stepping stone on the march to world domination. For Ahmadinejad's Iran, Europe is a "middle-sized Satan" and the United States is the "great Satan."

So, how can you reason and do talks with president Iran when he thinks this way and muslims think this way? It is not all muslims that do, but this one particular type. How can you reason with Ahmadinejad when United States in his eyes is Satan? He wants us dead so this new messiah will come to them.

Some believe his main objective is monopoly in broadcasting, not party loyalty or belief in party ideals (aka Big Business 102).

Excerpt from wsws.org: 'When it comes to politics, Murdoch, known in media circles as the “dirty digger,” is equally adaptable in pursuing his personal gain. The most loyal right-wing Tory and friend of Margaret Thatcher during the 1980s, as he built up his media holdings in Britain, he switched his loyalties to “New Labour” when he saw that Tony Blair could provide a fresh face for even more reactionary politics and was more than willing to further Murdoch’s interests in return for editorial backing. He made similar swings in his native Australia between the Labor and Liberal parties to further his efforts at monopolizing the print and broadcast media.'
Actually, I saw it on ABC News....
the footage of Obama not putting hand over heart for pledge. In all fairness, that is the only footage I have seen of him not doing so....never was a recipient of whatever chain email you are speaking of. Believe it...yes, saw it with my own eyes. Why he did it, have no idea. There could be a multitude of reasons why he didn't do it. Here is the big BUT...it does make one a but curious when coupled with the fact that he dispensed with wearing of the flag pin on his lapel. I heard his explanation; I am just not sure I buy it. Each thing alone not such a big deal...together, it does make one wonder, so I can see why nanna might have reservations. It is good to question things and not take everything at face value...be the candidate Dem, Repub, Inde...whatever.
