Presidents have been "slandered" since there's been presidents
President Bush took a beating. And you think Obama is somehow above being criticized???? Funny...
So, how many assassination plots against Palin
You motorcade attack shows perhaps 1/2 of a dozen protesters versus thousands upon thousands at Palin rallies being whipped up into a frenzy. Do you not distinguish between the actions of a few protestors and the actions of 2 candidates who are running for the highest office in the land? This is not Obama hate speech in this video. Can you grasp the difference? Also, Obama supporters did not start the negative campaigning...they responded in kind to an avalanche of pathetic attempts to swift boat Obama...a mistake dems did not intend to make twice.

Also, when an entire campaign declares war on the press/media during a national presidential campaign, they should have expected the response they got. McC put an unknown up there as VP candidate....it is only natural that she would be vetted in such a manner. Palin did not need any help from the media in making a complete fool of herself and it would have been irresponsible to treat her differently from any other candidate, especially just because she is a woman.

All of that is STILL beside the point. None of these so-called attacks on Palin have resulted in assassination conspiracies. NONE. You are behaving like a 5th grader and avoiding the issue. Assassination is FATAL....don't you get that?

Hersh: 'Executive assassination ring' reported directly to Cheney

Investigative reporter Seymour Hersh dropped a bombshell on Tuesday when he told an audience at the University of Minnesota that the military was running an "executive assassination ring" throughout the Bush years which reported directly to former Vice President Dik Cheney.

The remark came out seemingly inadvertently when Hersh was asked by the moderator of a public discussion of "America's Constitutional Crisis" whether abuses of executive power, like those which occurred under Richard Nixon, continue to this day.

Hersh replied, "After 9/11, I haven’t written about this yet, but the Central Intelligence Agency was very deeply involved in domestic activities against people they thought to be enemies of the state. Without any legal authority for it. They haven’t been called on it yet."

Hersh then went on to describe a second area of extra-legal operations: the Joint Special Operations Command. "It is a special wing of our special operations community that is set up independently," he explained. "They do not report to anybody, except in the Bush-Cheney days, they reported directly to the Cheney office. ... Congress has no oversight of it."

"It’s an executive assassination ring essentially, and it’s been going on and on and on," Hersh stated. "Under President Bush’s authority, they’ve been going into countries, not talking to the ambassador or the CIA station chief, and finding people on a list and executing them and leaving. That’s been going on, in the name of all of us."

Hersh told MinnPost.com blogger Eric Black in an email exchange after the event that the subject was "not something I wanted to dwell about in public." He is looking into it for a book, but he believes it may be a year or two before he has enough evidence "for even the most skeptical."

Stories have been coming out about covert Pentagon assassination squads for the last several years. In 2003, Hersh himself reported on Task Force 121, which operated chiefly out of the Joint Special Operations Command. Others stories spoke of a proposed Proactive, Preemptive Operations Group.

As Hersh noted in Minnesota, the New York Times on Monday described the Joint Special Operations Command as overseeing the secret commando units in Afghanistan whose missions were temporarily ordered halted last month because of growing concerns over excessive civilian deaths.

However, it appears that Hersh is now on the trail of some fresh revelation about these squads and their connection to Vice-President Cheney that goes well beyond anything that has previously been reported.

Eric Black's blog posting, which includes an hour-long audio recording of the full University of Minnesota colloquy, is available here.

What about the hate speech and assassination threats?
conservative who is willing to addess this directly?
your attempts at race baiting

are disgusting and all too obvious to do any damage.  Study the issues we are facing, quit trying to stir up hate.

I am aware of the pitiful attempts
smear Obama over his ACORN "ties." Suing over rerdlining merely "bullied" the banks into treating minority and white loan applicants equally and was hardly responsible for the predatory lending practices ALREADY IN PLACE at the time. The operative word here with regard to O's "association" with ACORN is WAS. Personally, I cannot fault a guy for involving himself in voter registration drives. So what if they endorsed him? He's the better candidate and certainly represents their interests in minority social issues better than McCain. Voter fraud investigation is ongoing. Perhaps we should wait for the results of the investigation before drawing any conclusions, especially since you seem to be trying to insinuate that O somehow is trying to throw the race...a charge that will never gain any political capital coming from the party who in the past 8 years has written the book on voter fraud. Its a little hard to understand exactly how the current accusations rise to the level of voter fraud BEFORE the votes have even been cast. The only thing dirty here is the pathetic attempts on the part of the McCain campaign to spread hatred and division in their cowardly attempts to avoid talking about the economy elephant in the room.
Are you aware of any attempts to suppress
Or am I missing something here?
There've been alot of foiled attempts. So far,
With Bush (& hopefully the current republican candidates) out of the White House, the risk of terrorist attacks against the US should start to become less.
OBAMA WON!!! Despite Faux News attempts to thwart the success WE DID IT
very good news and what a relief
I guess you want the old white, wrinkly white guy?
Right wing horsesh*t being shoved out as "truth." Sad.
Comparing the two presidents

is a little like comparing a bass (Bush) to a great white shark (Iranian president).

Presidents do not yield

to political blackmail -- Obama did the right thing.  He believes his time is better spent letting the entire bleppin' congress work the on the issue and then vote when they come up with a plan.  McCain is just making another grandstand attempt that has fallen embarrassingly flat.

I was not talking about 16 other presidents...... sm
I am talking about Obama.

I thought the general consensus of this board, or at least the Obama supporters here, was that we were to not look at history but rather to the future. (At least that is what I was told when I posted that those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat their mistakes.)

You really should have watched the "YouTube bites." It was Obama himself saying that he did not believe a person that is unqualified for a job should apply for it and that was his reasoning for saying that he did not see himself running for a national office in 2008. Since you didn't watch the video, I believe you are unqualified to comment on it.
They do that with ALL presidents. Usually, initially
nm
Oh, so you don't care if this has been done before with other presidents, . . . sm
but you do care if it has not been done before.  Why?  Either way, the naysayers will have something to whine about.  The only reason there is such a big deal being made is because there has not been a president in recent history that has had been under so much scrutiny in his first 100 days.  Even if he were to solve world peace, find a cure for cancer AND turn water into wine, they would still complain and find fault.
So have all the other Christian presidents, nm
x
Not all presidents do have a gathering
Just because they served the Kool-Aid in the Bush white house for the last 8 years, doesn't mean that's what is supposed to happen. Obama signed a national proclamation honoring the day, which is what many presidents have done since Truman created it 50 some years ago. Not everyone needs to drape themselves in their religion to honor it.
All presidents have done things....(sm)

in secret.  It's never caused such a problem before.  I'm not trying to slam Bush, but look at all the stuff we're finding out about his administration (i.e. torture memos, etc).  And to top that off, Bush was the one who initially stopped access to the guest list to the WH.  When Bush did it the news covered it, but there wasn't a wide spread panic about it....so what's the big deal about Obama doing it?

I'm not saying that I agree with blocking the lists, because I don't, but the point is that both Bush and Obama have done it, so why the panic about just one of them?  My guess is that right wing media is pushing the issue and using it as a talking point; basically making the media being the ones who are instilling fear, not Obama.

My point is that prior presidents have had their day..sm
and time when they were covered in mud and IMHO none of it is right, except to say in most cases the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

But, to answer Jeb's and Bush's family mishaps with the what about the Kennedy's line is dodging the point to me.

Bringing up the Lynch and Dean ordeal that's something worth listening to, but you guys just can't let go of old democratic presidents. It's like a thorn still sticking in your side. Everytime something comes up with Bush, you talk about Clinton, or even the Kennedy's, as if that dismisses Bush somehow. Whatever gets you though.
Maybe it's time to dump the presidents and
X
16 presidents with less experience than Obama...
http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Info/experience.html
1. Abraham Lincoln,
2. FDR
3. Theodore Roosevelt
4. Woodrow Wilson
5. John Adams
6. Grover Cleveland
7. Ronald Reagan
8. Howard Taft
9. Bill Clinton
10. George Bush
11. Chester A. Arthur
12. Herbert Hoover
13. Jimmy Carter
14. Benjamin Harrison
15. Ulysses S. Grant
16. William Harrison

BTW, I do not make such important decisions as selecting a president based on YouTube sound bytes, so no, I did not bother with the video. My vote is between me and my candidate, based on exactly the things I listed in the previous post, which I stand by 100%.

Hogwash. See 16 presidents post above.
x
Haven't all the other Christian presidents? nm
x
No you were not - it's obvious you were talking about the presidents
because you said so in your message! Sheesh - this is about as good as David Letterman saying he was talking about the "other" Palin girl.
Democratic presidents 'suck' in the eyes
of Reps, and Republican presidents 'suck' in the eyes of Dems.....and round and round it goes...
much ado about nothing...reporter posed question as, "had he spoken to any *living* presidents?..
i agree the reporter's question was absolutely LAME..."has he spoken to any LIVING past presidents?" um...as opposed to talking to dead ones? I thought his response was quick-witted considering the idiocy of the question--at least he didn't put the reporter on the spot and embarrass her...instead he made his first gaffe as POTUSE and already apologized. let's hope the reporters ask SMARTER questions at the next conference.
I love democrats! I love most of the past democratic presidents (sm)
I would love for there to be a good democrat I could vote for. I want good leadership and I want change. But I truly believe to purposely ignore a symbol speaks volumes. He is not just asking the symbol to wait, he is ignoring it on purpose. Avoiding it on purpose. Why do you think that is? There is a reason. Can you not see it?
LOL! Yes, black and white =
only. Too bad it's not a black and white, good or bad world. The you're either with us or against us philosophy has not served us well in the world community and here at home your patriotism is questioned simply because you ask questions. But it's our mission to spread democracy. God help us.
sorry if I offended, but I'm white....

I'm a white person saying this.....but worked in ERs for years.....her Shaniqua statement made me say there's plenty of white trash going to ERs too....is all I meant - sorry if I offended you.

duh yourself - Barack IS 50% white... LOL

and some of us love people of color but not voting for him for other reasons,

There are people voting for him strictly because he's part black, and some people voting for hillary because she is female -

these are BAD reasons.........to vote for anybody........

what? said about biden by a white.
where do you get racism out of that?
He is both black AND white.
Not that it matters and your not the only one but people keep referring to Barack as a "black" man without acklowdeging that he is also half white (50/50). His mother was as white as they come. I don't feel we are electing a black man (or a white man). I feel we are electing a capable man.
Is this what the US needs in the White House?

??????

'"'

I think NOT.

what does black and white have to do with it?
s
Nothing to do with black or white there....has to do
!
Black and White
People and organizations often try to condense life into a black and white little box. It's way too gray for that.

One thing I discovered as I got older ... just because people or organizations come on strong doesn't mean they know what they are talking about or have good ideas.

I was always shy and figured the people who were forceful were such because the knew their $#it. Sooo not true. :)
What about the white people who went to war to...
abolish slavery? And many thousands died in the effort. That just get erased? Like it never happened?
In the White House, someone who has kept the

George Bush does not like black people
how racist was that? No white trash in the ERs

black and white thinking

in other words seeing someone as all bad or all good is not an indicator of high intelligence.  Beware.

Don't know how you can accuse me of only seeing black and white...
in view of all these posts. You really think calling someone a redneck and Nascar and a religious wacko is appropriate way to talk about issues?

They quote the bill of rights but ignore the one about freedom of religion...they hawk choice but you mention choice of the child and they tear the hide off you in strips...usually telling you to go back to your church, bible-thumper, etc., as if all pro-life people are grounded in religion. THat is simply NOT the truth...there are liberal pro-lifers who believe ALL life is sacred...and not from a liberal point of view, but a moral one.

And you can still post to me that to ME everything is black and white. I am perfectly willing and have been perfectly willing to debate issues. THey just do not tolerate a dissenting opinion, if you debate policies they take it as a personal affront to Obama...what was that you said about total agreement with a platform...?

No, frankly, I don't see it. But there will probably be more posts after yours high-fiving you for lecturing me.

Have a good evening.
I'm not assuming you are white. I simply
meant put yourself in the role that she was in, a minority in college. You are right though, I assumed that you weren't a minority for that scenario and I apologize. And, I didn't mention anywhere in my post about Wright, I was simply referring to her as a college student and the fact that I did not think her thesis was racist.
White guilt is right. Too many people...
feel they HAVE to say they would vote for Obama for fear of being called racist. If that's the only way he gets into the White House then it's not a true win. He certainly isn't going to get in based on his stellar political career or experience. Flowery words, promises that can't be kept, keep the poor people poor and dependent on the government, screw the middle class and help out your fat cat friends.
White guilt is "pitiful?" Help me out here.
this statement to be just the teensey-weensiest bit tinged with that racism the reds doth vigorously protest is absent in their campaign rhetoric? Am I the only one left in America that finds this deeply offensive? Flame away if you must. I can take it.
Another thank you for your service. White flag is right..

what a nation of wimps we will become under this man. He'll be hiding behind Michelle's skirt.

There are always those people out there, black and white
who just do not understand anything and never will.
White house butler guy.....you can't be serious.
He will be one of Obama's top advisors. You can't be that naive.

As to the Chicago political machine...google it. The Daleys of Chicago...crooked as a dog's hind leg comes to mind...you don't remember the current Mayor daley's dad?

Can't believe you never heard of the Chicago political machine. Obama was part of it, and he is bringing it with him to the White House. Yeah, that concerns me...and last time I looked, I have a right to be concerned.
