The bottom is starting to drop out of this thing. I am positive the media (who are angry already about the phony "bias" attack by McCain) will NOT let SP's silence go unnoted.

the democrats are going to put on a medial blitz regarding the stimulus package. They supposedly are going to blame the republicans for not wanting to pass this package, stating they don't care about the American people. (Serously, I think the pubs care more than the dems-but that's just me.)

I kept hearing about "honey bees" in this package but couldn't find it. I was listening to CSpan today. The senators are debating the package. McCain stated we don't need to spend %150M on "honey bee insurance." What?

Also, he feels we should lower the income taxes immediately by 5%; i.e., if you pay 15%, you'd be paying 10%; if you pay 10%, you'd be paying 5%. It would only cost $275B to do this, but would get things moving again. I didn't see anything in the stimulus package about that either but, of course, I didn't finish reading it yet. Senator DeMint also wants the taxes lowered on individuals.

They expect to vote on this package by Friday. Hopefully, they'll get all the crap taken out....which will probably take it back to 4 pages.

It dropped another 444.99 points. S&P was down to 753.59 and NASDAQ down to 1315.01. CitiGroup is down to less than $5 a share! Dell is down to $10.50 a share. Oil is under $50 a barrel (so why is gas in my area still $2.34/gallon?)

I have a feeling it all had to do with not supporting the big 3 bailout among other things..

The government is calling for another $1.2 TRILLION to try to shore up the markets. It's a losing battle and they can't see it.

Me thinks this is the start of the big D. Hope all of you are prepared. Stock up now. Our store had a nice sale on flour, sugar, pasta, tuna, and canned veggies and I went early this morning and spent $70. We have our beef side coming today and our pork coming next week. I still need to get paper products, especially the paper products you just can't do without, if you know what I mean.

When I saw the "sheeple," I naturally thought about Savage's soundbyte when referring to all of us basically waiting for the shoe to drop. He's used sheeple for years, and now he puts the sheep noise with it. While it's horrible in reality, it's funny to hear on the radio.

This is a huge mess. Bush actually tried to get this thing under control 14 (I believe that's the # I've heard repeatedly now) since 2001. That I believe. But this latest move about the bailout is just nuts, regardless of whose mouth it comes from. The perception that Wall St. is a bunch of Republicans is actually false. I do care, but also don't. Both parties have spent a ton too much. That's why the Rs lost elections in 2006, and rightly so. But now the Dems deserve the same thing.

I'll never understand when people, regardless of side, allow their party to go unchecked or WORSE YET, unpunished. Y'all, we don't have that kind of $ to bail out any politician(s) for this crap! Have you noticed that neither party will ever allow term limits to be voted for? Gee, I wonder why... Also, 8 years with any prez is beginning to be too much. It's inevitable that the news becomes stale, the homeymoon is long over, etc. I think 6 would be more realistic for all involved. For some reason "they" never ask me! All joking aside, when voting in Nov., I so hope Americans will punish everyone who's spent like drunken sailors. That should just about clean out, what, 75% of the Hill?

If this does not chill your blood, with all due respect, there is something terribly wrong. These people are focused on the destruction of the United States. They get their information from the New York Times and CNN, and they are heartened that the majority of this country who voted espouse the cut and run theory on Iraq. They seek to divide us from within and for the country to turn on the President (and they have done that successfully it would seem). They think (and it would appear that they are right in many cases) that the US as a whole has no stomach for the fight. In their eyes, we are weak and not willing to fight for what we believe in like they are, and in their eyes that makes us cowards. We are in a WAR, yes a WAR, like no other. And if you do not think us pulling out of Iraq prematurely will not fire the jihad you are very sadly mistaken. They will view it as a major victory and I shudder to think what will follow it. The very reason we have not had more major attacks on our soil, in my opinion, is that these people, with all their bluster, are afraid of George Bush and what he might do. They are afraid that if they pull something like that again Iraq might be a walk in the park and would mean even more American boots on the ground in places they don't want them. They just can't be sure of what the US might do under his leadership, and that is why they are biding their time. If we get a dovish adminstration, it could, and most likely would, get ugly real fast. All it will take is the first (and probably homegrown) jihadist to blow himself up in a mall somewhere and take several innocent American lives with him....and then it will be too late. It could happen, do not think for a moment it could not. They want dead Americans. They would prefer dead American citizens on our own ground. They prefer the cowardly fight. They do not prefer having to face our military. But they will, because they are dedicated to their belief, no matter how perverse it is, while all the time trying to get back on the playing field they prefer...cowardly suicide attacks. We will learn what Israel has had to live with for years, the hard way. Do you see where I am going with this? We NEED for them to remain afraid of what we might do if they start something like that. We need for them to respect our willingness to stand toe-to-toe for what we believe in. We need to demonstrate that we are willing to do so and not waver. We need to demonstrate a belief in our country and our way of life as strong as theirs is. We are already wavering as a country, and we need to suck it up and stand up straight again. It is time to wake up. We are not acting as the World police in Iraq. We are in a fight for our survival, the survival of a free country where we are not afraid to go into a mall or get in a car or go anywhere we wish without fear of suicide bombers, car bombs, being grabbed off the street and found without a head a week later. We do not need to join the hunker down and be quiet and maybe they will leave us alone club. That does not work. They are not going to leave us alone. No one is safe, for these people there is only one way....their way. They are not going to stop and go quietly away. That should be patently obvious. This is the most important issue that faces us. None of the rest of it will matter if we lose in Iraq. Take a moment to look at history, all the precursors of 9-11. Had we not gone into Iraq, and swept yet another incident under the rug (with Khobar Towers, the Cole, the Achille Lauro, Tanzania, Somalia, and on and on and on) there is no telling where we would be right now or what other awful things might have occurred. For those of you who cannot grasp that, who think that if we pull out of Iraq and pander to these people that everything will be all right....God help you. God help us all.

We are "voice experts" if you will with all of the work we do. That is most definitely his voice.

"We are all socialists now," proclaims Newsweek. We are creating "socialist republics" in the United States, says Mike Huckabee, adding, on reflection, that "Lenin and Stalin would love this stuff." We are witnessing the Obama-era phenomenon of "European socialism transplanted to Washington," says Newt Gingrich.

Well! Even as we all turn red, I've still encountered just two avowed democratic socialists in my daily rounds through the nation's capital: Vermont's Sen. Bernie Sanders . . . and the guy I see in the mirror when I shave. Bernie is quite capable of speaking for himself, so what follows is a report on the state of actual existing socialism from the other half of the D.C. Senators and Columnists Soviet.

First, as we survey the political landscape, what's striking is the absence of advocates of socialism, at least as the term was understood by those who carried that banner during the capitalist crisis of the 1930s. Then, socialists and communists both spoke of nationalizing all major industries and abolishing private markets and the wage system. Today, it's impossible to find a left-leaning party anywhere that has such demands or entertains such fantasies. (Not even Hugo Ch�vez - more an authoritarian populist than any kind of socialist - says such things.)

Within the confines of socialist history, this means that the perspective of Eduard Bernstein - the fin DE siecle German socialist who argued that the immediate struggle to humanize capitalism through the instruments of democratic government was everything, and that the goal of supplanting capitalism altogether was meaningless - has definitively prevailed. Within the confines of American history, this means that when New York's garment unions left the Socialist Party to endorse Franklin Roosevelt in 1936, they were charting the paradigmatic course for American socialists: into the Democratic Party to support not the abolition of capitalism but its regulation and democratization, and the creation of some areas of public life where the market does not rule.

But in the United States, conservatives have never bashed socialism because its specter was actually stalking America. Rather, they've wielded the cudgel against such progressive reforms as free universal education, the minimum wage or tighter financial regulations. Their signal success is to have kept the United States free from the taint of universal health care. The result: We have the world's highest health-care costs, borne by businesses and employees that cannot afford them; nearly 50 million Americans have no coverage; infant mortality rates are higher than those in 41 nations - but at least (phew!) we don't have socialized medicine.

Give conservatives credit for their consistency: They attacked Roosevelt as a socialist as they are now attacking Obama, when in fact Obama, like Roosevelt before him, is engaged not in creating socialism but in rebooting a crashed capitalist system. The spending in Obama's stimulus plan isn't a socialist takeover. It's the only way to inject money into a system in which private-sector investment, consumption and exports - the other three possible engines of growth - are locked down. Investing more tax dollars in education and research and development is a way to use public funds to create a more competitive private sector. Keeping our banks from speculating madly with our money is a way to keep banking alive.

If Obama realizes his agenda, what emerges will be a more social, sustainable, competitive capitalism. His more intellectually honest and sentient conservative critics don't accuse him of Leninism but of making our form of capitalism more like Europe's. In fact, over the past quarter-century, Europe's capitalism became less regulated and more like ours, one reason Europe is tanking along with everyone else.

Take it from a democratic socialist: Laissez-faire American capitalism is about to be supplanted not by socialism but by a more regulated, viable capitalism. And the reason isn't that the woods are full of secret socialists who are only now outing themselves.

Judging by the failures of the great Wall Street investment houses and the worldwide crisis of commercial banks; the collapse of East Asian, German and American exports; the death rattle of the U.S. auto industry; the plunge of stock markets everywhere; the sickening rise in global joblessness; and the growing shakiness of governments in fledgling democracies that opened themselves to the world market - judging by all these, a more social capitalism is on the horizon because the deregulated capitalism of the past 30 years has blown itself up, taking much of the known world with it.

So, for conservatives searching for the culprits behind this transformation of capitalism: Despite our best efforts, it wasn't Bernie and it wasn't me. It was your own dam system.
